Hard to describe this one. I ordered take out during the mist of Covid-19. The lady who took the order at the counter was confused, but still pretty polite regardless. The service was good, but couldn't save this review because dear Lord, the food. My God the food still haunts me to this day. Me and my party all decided to try the corn beef sliders together with fries, and boy how much of a sin that was for us. See, my dad's Irish, and once he took a bite of that sandwich when we got back home, all I could see was moderate disappointment on his face, so I took a bite of mine. The bread was pretty hard, but still chew-able, but the meat had seen better days. It was way too tough and chew-y, and I know this specific meat is supposed to be like that, but this was almost inedible and laughable. On top of that, there was barely any sauce within the sandwich, making it practically just eating dry meat with hardened bread. Presentation was a bit messy too, I wish I would've taken a picture of it. Very disappointing since I heard this place was the talk of the town. Oh well, at least the fries that came with the sandwich were pretty simple and good, that's a plus. Probably won't be coming back though.

Nice little place in Pompton Lakes. We stopped in with friends. The restaurant area was nicely laid out and family friendly. The wait staff was prompt and pleasant. We ordered a few appetizers and were blown away by the portion sizes. They were enormous! Everything was delicious. There is a good beer menu with some local favorites. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. We will certainly be back.

Had dinner with the wife tonight. I had the Jameson chicken, she the beef stew. Food came out fast, tasty and on point. Mashed potatoes are kind of basic. 2 beers, 2 glasses of wine, 2 meals, tax and tip came to $67.

First time visit. They created a great outside bar, almost doubling the seating. The restaurant was clean and the staff was attentive and friendly. We really didn't get too creative with food picks and just had potatoe pancakes (Octoberfest) for an app and burger and battered fish sandwich. The fish sandwich was quite good. Burger was well done. Asked for medium rare, but tasty French fries were great. Food going to other tables looked very appetizing, and we will have to try some of their dinner entrées on our next visit.

Local place with good food for sure. Service was ok but a little slow. The young man seamed to be busy so couldn’t fault him. Good was good and hot and my wife’s salad was very tasty. Overall great local place

Been here a couple of times, it's a standard Irish pub type place, so you can always get a consistent Guinness, but their food hasn't wowed me much. Order came out incorrect last visit - got chicken fingers instead of boneless wings, but not a huge difference so didn't press it. The fish sandwich is pretty good, a large portion, and a decent price (for dining out these days, at least).

We started our commute at 12:45am, and drove 15 hours straight from Jacksonville, FL. This was the first restaurant we ate at during our first visit to NJ. We are so thankful. Everything from bangers and mash, to the way they pour Guinness, is 13/10. Our only complaint is Guinness that perfect is 30 hours away round trip!

Thatcher’s in PL is so good in many ways. It has that town home feeling where everybody knows you and makes you feel welcome each and every time you dine there. The bartenders are ALWAYS incredible - Tully, Ryan, Harrison and Jay and you cannot forget Christine! The best waitress is Diana and she always gives you her beautiful welcoming smile. Brendan, one of the owners, is so attentive to all of his customers needs and is always hands on with his crew. Aside from the people who work there….the food and drink is exceptional! It is a must go to place and you will get addicted to every aspect of Thatcher McGhee’s in Pompton Lakes!

🤳 Nice place to stop in for a bite to eat and drink. 👍 I stopped in for lunch and had a BLT with french fries. I also had the house Ale that is brewed for the location. I Recommend a visit or few. 🍀🥁✍️🫱

this place has gotten better over the years. food is very good, service is very good. atmosphere is irishy pub. portions are good. i had the onion soup, a scone and fish and chips. everything was prepared very well, and the scone was delish, served with lots of soft butter. parking as always is a little challenging but that is the fun of living in an urban area. be patient you will find a spot.

Was looking for a casual place to have a bite to eat with my son and we tried Thatchers. The staff that waited on us were very good and attentive. My son had the Reuben sandwich and he said it was very good. I had the beer batter cod sandwich and liked it. We both like the fries. Crispy on the outside and very tasty. We started with the Bavarian pretzels and cheese sauce and that was a hit with both of us. So for us, it was good pub type food and enjoyable. Price was reasonable and I will definitely go back.

Great food, good prices...One of our favorite places for dinner. Go early, or there can be a 30-40 minute wait to be seated.

Not exactly in my neighborhood but definitely worth the trip. Food is delicious , has a nice home-cooked vibe. The chicken curry is my favorite, so good! Drinks are amazing. One of the reasons we go out of the way for this place is because of its great variety/selection of food & drinks. There is so much more to choose from than your regular Irish pub.

Had a Rachel. It was good. Plus the sweet potato fries were served hot and crispy. They also know the proper way to pour a Guinness. Taste very fresh.

I know this place well. Yesterday was not a very good experience. At Thatcher's. We stopped in late afternoon for a quick bite. If not for the bartender Ryan, I don't know. We would have ever been served. He noticed that the service wasn't. Where it should be, he came from around the bar to take care of our table. I would suggest if you go there on a Wednesday afternoon. Have a seat at the bar if you want to be served timely.

Great place to get a drink (a strong drink) or two, some good pub fare, and catch up with friends. The reuben rolls are a must!!!

I really enjoyed the French Onion soup, and my Ruben sandwich. The French Fries where alright but not that great. We are visiting from Florida and if we lived here I would go back to Thatcher's for sure.

My sister & I always stop over when I am in New Jersey. We had the "Pear Salad" with salmon and it was excellent. We also ordered the "Thatch" fries with bacon, cheese, and ranch dressing. They were so good. My son, loved "The Taste of Ireland" and the curry fries. I love this place. It has a great atmosphere and also food and drinks.

Been here a couple of times. Good Irish bar food (I think) and the service is always friendly and fairly prompt. We chose to sit in the dining room at each visit, so I can't speak about the bar area. My wife always chooses a "specialty drink" and has not been disappointed.

don't order shepards pie, nothing but a pile of mashed potatoes. server asked if there was a problem, told him its just a pile of mash potatoes, almost no meat, not worth the price ($14.00). His response? "oh well"

Stuck in a nearby town for a big delivery. Lodging was easy enough to find but there was more than a handful of places to eat and none jumped out. So we chose this place and I gotta say I wasn’t impressed. Table service was excellent, nothing to improve on. Atmosphere was darkish, nothing stood out as special. Food was adequate but I guess I was expecting more. My coworker liked his meal up to the spinach. I’d be willing to try them again after trying other spots close by.

We just had the BEST experience here taking my dad out with the whole family for Father's Day! Everything we ordered was delicious! The Irish fare was by far the best I've ordered out and all of the other appetizers and meals we ordered were amazing! Love the environment and our waitress Ella completed the whole package! She was so pleasant and catered to the needs of all 9 of us! We live a half hour away and will DEFINITELY be back!

Been coming here for a good decade now and don't live in Jersey so that should tell you something. As a bar, it's great. Typical Irish style pub, typical North Jersey vibes, great people frequent it and I've never not had a good time. As a restaurant, delicious. They have so many good things on the menu, a lot of authentic Irish stuff, a lot of "modern" or American food. The Thatch fries are an obvious thing to get. The bangers and mash are fantastic, imo. The Guinness stew is very good too and so is the Shepherds Pie.

My family has dined at Thatchers over the past couple of years and all of our meals have been delicious but recently we have noticed the use of not so fresh ingredients. Canned mushrooms were a bit disappointing in a chicken dish and possibly frozen vegetables in a salmon dish. For the price they are charging, I’m not so happy 😕

We've been long-time patrons of their Denville location which has always been a favorite spot for us. We just by happens chance found ourselves in Pompton Lakes for a lucky stop for dinner at original Thatchers. We expected nothing less than than the excellent food and service we received that night. Brian was superb server and we felt right at home. Thatchers will always be one of my favorite go-to spots, a little home away from home.
