Awful. Seriously go to a different Japanese steak house. Where to start.. waiting area is sitting in the middle of the restaurant with all the tables around.. Whatever. Finally get a grill seat, table mostly clean. The grill had some remnants. Salad anyone? Try a little lettuce with a huge glob of mayo without flavor- it was nasty. No option for without dressing. Let's try the miso soup. Wrong again. Broth with spaghetti noodles. Nothing else. Nothing that you would get in a typical miso, no shallot, no mushroom, nothing. Spaghetti and broth. Ok main course.. steamed rice- they didn't screw that up. Fried rice $3 more per person... for day old rice and a couple little carrot bites, and way more water than one should need if the rice wasn't stale. The taste was ok. Main course? I ordered the pepper steak, saw it come out and it looked amazing, lean and tenderloin like. Others ordered ribeye. He sliced it all up, cooked it, and into my plate i got 3 bites of pepper steak and a pile of fatty ribeye ends. And it was all heavily salted. The hibachi chef didn't talk to anyone, he didn't perform any of the standard tricks. Go to a better place, that's more affordable and gives better quality food. This is the worst hibachi I've ever been to. Food quality sucked, service sucked, prices high.

I have been to Kobe‘s many times, I used to love this restaurant. since the pandemic it has went downhill tremendously, I would not recommend anyone to go to go to Kobe‘s Japanese steakhouse in Independence mo. I took my niece for her 10th birthday. The temperature inside the restaurant was cooler then it was outside the only source of heat they had was a couple little heaters as you can see in one of the pictures. I was thankful for the chef he tried to start a couple fires on the grill to keep us warm. I spoke with the owner a couple times about how cold it was inside and she said they had heat and smiled. Yes you have two little room heaters in a good size restaurant. I downloaded a indoor room thermometer and took a screenshot of the temperature. I’m not the type of person the leave a review But I feel like people should know this before they go especially if it’s cold 🥶 Take your snowsuit and gloves and I’m sure you’ll enjoy paying $55 for a kids meal and one adult meal. Sincerely unsatisfied customer

Wonderful experience. Our chef interacted with us tons. Making jokes, doing the volcano. He had a gag bottle that shot out a string that made my daughter jump. The server was great, always making sure out finished plates were removed immediately, without being seen!! The food was wonderful. Plain and simple, a great meal.

Attempted to make reservations on Friday, called 4 times they would pick the phone up and then hang up. Figured we would try to just walk in on Saturday. Got there at 415 they said we would be seated next. However they seated a party of 10+ before us. During our 45 min wait the phone was ringing off the hook. The door guy told the small snippy manager woman that the phone was ringing she responded "don't worry about it". We had tickets to the Mavericks game which started at 605. We got seated around 5. They rushed the drinks, salad and soup. We sat for another 25 minutes waiting for the chef to come to our table. When we asked how much longer it would be due to our time crunch, management seemed to care less. The chef got to the table we asked if it was possible to have food before 545 because if it weren't we would have to leave due to prior engagements. The extremely rude, uncouth snippy manager walked to our table pointed at us and said "they don't even have a reservation" then bellowed in laughter. If it weren't for the chef telling us he could pull it off our party would have gotten up and left. I have never experienced such immature, substandard unpleasant behavior from a manager in my life. This lady needs to learn some manners and sharpen her interpersonal skills. For $35+ per person you'd think they would treat and appreciate their customers just a smidge better.

My friend and I took out tween daughters out for hibachi. It was her friend’s first experience, but we eat hibachi pretty frequently. The cook was an absolute bore. I’ve never had such a boring experience. He didn’t even have a name tag so that we could try to engage him. I’ve also never seen the meet cooked before the veggies, which was odd. The food was bland but the presentation was nice. Other tables were having fun laughing and interacting with the chef while we sat and watched them. I’ll give it one more try and update the review accordingly.

Great. But super pricey for the kids menu. Same amount of everything the adult meal has except the steak is half and not the whole. Not sure about the chicken. We were freezing cold the whole time we were there.

Update: the sushi is back open and it's wonderful. Love that their sushi isn't drowning in sauce. Radish roll, godfather roll, computer roll left to right I have been coming here since this place opened and they have fantastic sushi. There is no other sushi around who I think compares. There are many regulars who I think would agree. The hibachi is good, as good as other hibachi restaurants but I come here for the sushi. Godfather roll, rainbow roll, tuna pieces then the Michael roll for dessert. Finish with radish roll.

Wish we could have had the drinks we ordered... but they didn't have enough bowels for the Volcano drinks for the table. But the food was good and service was great.

We went for the sushi. The rice was overcooked and very mushy. The server forgot to give us utensils, so I had to get my own. I couldn't find the napkins, so the sushi chef got them for me. Still, my interactions with the staff was great. For the price I wish the food was better. I would give them another try to see if it was an off day on the sushi rice.

We got the hibachi grill . Everything was excellent. The steak and shrimp were perfect. The chicken was not dry. The onion volcano was great.

This place is awesome for Sushi or the grill. The staff are wonderful, helpful, and professional. The food is very good and prepared well and right in front of you. The chefs entertain with skill and personality the whole meal. This is a good place for a group or a couple, even someone eating alone. 07132019 - another good evening with excellent food and service! Thank you! 11062020 - yet another evening of wonderful fun, food and servicr!!! Thank you!!!

Went Sunday after church. We had a large group. They accommodated us. It's sad that they don't have sushi on Sunday's or Mondays. Food was delicious 😋

Food is very good. I have ate here multiple times. I question the cleanliness of the place and food when cooking. Staff at front door and taking drink orders are not very kind or friendly, it seems to be a thing at similar restaurants. Hire good host or hosts to run the front end, seems like easy fix to me. Once food is being prepared we always have a great time. They have taken a few things off the menu. Tell they bring the bill here come the attuide again.

Loved our night out at Kobe's! We were so surprised to find out our favorite chef was back, Fred! He is the best at everything, could not tell he had been away at all. He even remembered how we liked our food cooked. Sean (the Manager) and his friend were so generous and made sure that we knew Fred was in house and was cooking for us. Love the whole Kobe's crew. They have done great at making us feel safe during Covid and they are so nice, and very attentive to our wants. Food as always was wonderful and fresh! Entertainment was right on point, our granddaughters love all the extra attention they got. Wichita Kobe's is the BEST!

I always forget about this hidden gem in Independence. The sushi is fresh, the chefs are fun, and the service is quick! Will definitely be coming here more often.

Our go to sushi place for years. Best in the city. Too many memorable meals to tell but ou favorite was with our now son-in-law telling us he was going to marry our daughter. Three grandchildren later I still savor that memory

We had 8pm reservation but didn't get seated until 8:30p.. once seated everything else was a great experience and the food was awesome. Our chef put on a show.. throwing this and tossing that..lol.. it was pretty cool..I son was super impressed (he is 5yo). There is a lot of food for the price. So much food that I got full there and left with a full to-go container.

Always such a great and entertaining experience here, and the food is perfect every time, especially a fan of the yellow sauce. I am sad however that there’s no longer the flaming volcano drink for 2 on the menu. That was something I always looked forward to when coming here. I hope they bring them back!

The food was awesome but the cook was so much fun. He had a great personality and took care of each of us, especially with throwing the shrimp to my grandsons!! I don't care much for seafood but ate more shrimp than I usually do. Took enough leftovers home for 3 more meals!! Had the best time. Loved it.

We just had the best time with our family. Our chef really entertained my two little ones. This is their first experience. The food was delicious the bartender was awesome. She was so kind to my boys. Our waitress was very nice. She brought the the cheater chopsticks. My boys had three Shirley Temple’s a piece. That was the first time they’ve ever had soda. Well worth the money.

Amazing! But this has been my favorite spot for a long time and the service never disappoints! The food is amazing our service provider was very sensitive about the guest we had in our party who was allergic to shrimp. He took all necessary precautions cleaning his tools and the grill! Thank you guys so much will be back soon!

The Waitress "June" was rude! My son asked for some spicy Mayo and she responded "No"! I tried to put soy sauce on some sushi and she tried to stop me! The hibachi chef was absolutely the most boring I have ever experienced. All he did was come out and cook the food. I get it that the show is generally pretty standard across these types of restaurants, but there was no show at all! The best I can say is the food was decent but not the best.

Kobe’s will forever be one of my favorite places to eat. The food is always fresh and delicious. The chefs are always on point with the show. I always come home with 1 or 2 meals after I eat what I can. The yellow sauce is my favorite! I couldn’t wait to dig into my plate before a picture as you can tell!

Food remains good but would be better with true yum yum sauce provided instead of what is currently being used. The prices have risen so much that for my wife and I and our 4 kids cost over $240. Individual meals are now over $35 with drinks like everywhere you go over priced at almost $4 each. Very friendly staff and good food just wondering how far the pricing will go for rice, vegetables, and a little meat.
