Recently enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Q39 South. We ordered two combination plates with ribs and brisket, but different sides (pictured). The ribs and brisket were fantastic. Excellent rub, cut, and bbq sauce! Our sides—Mac and cheese, fries, and baked beans—were also really good. The Mac and cheese was particularly good. It does run on the pricier side for dinner, but well worth it for a nice, sit down BBQ meal. We sat in the enclosed patio and enjoyed the ambiance too.

I had a customer in town who is from the north and does not get good quality barbecue up there. I knew this would be a great experience for them. Everybody loved the food. They were from Minnesota and shocked to see BBQ poutine on the appetizer menu. That is definitely a great food and that is typically served in northern states in Canada. Nice to see a barbecue flare with it. The wings were absolutely to die for and the burnt ends were amazing

Second time to Q39, first time this location. Food n service are great. Love the bacon-wrapped shrimp appetizer. Wings spicy but subtly sweet. Best part was ribs, close second is burnt ends and brisket. Next time we will focus on that. Chicken a pulled pork were tasty but eclipsed by the excellence of the ribs n brisket. Service was personal with a good balance of attention and letting us enjoy the food. Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed this place. We had the burnt ends sandwich and brisket platter. All were very good. Sauces were fantastic. Mac and cheese was good. I would definitely recommend this place.

Fantastic bbq! Very possibly the best burnt ends in town. We went on Friday at 6:00 and we’re able to get a table rather quickly. There was definitely a wait as we left. You can make reservations if you’re better planners than we are. There’s a bar and some TVs. It’s not a quiet restaurant but the food is amazing. Service was great. We will definitely be back. We hope our reviews and photos are helpful for learning about shopping, eating and playing in the area we live in.

HANDS DOWN THE BEST ! I am a believer… delicious with outstanding service!!! Brooke (waitress) was quick and on the spot ! First start out with getting burn ends as a starter ; then I would recommend you the Judge’s Plate (it won’t disappoint) , the chicken was delicious as well . So much food …. The baked bean are amazing! They also have burn end chunks inside … so delicious. I will definitely be back soon !

We came when dinner service just started and it was not as busy. My kids had the Mac and cheese and it was pretty good. My husband and I had combo plates of half chicken, brisket, and ribs. The brisket was the most tender, fat rendering out and flavorful. My husband ate the ribs so quick because it was falling off the bone. For sides we had baked beans and apple slaw which were both good and accompanied the meats well.

Ok. This place is great! Ryan our server was excellent. Super nice guy. The brisket and burnt ends are awesome. Their sauce is good but on the sweet side...their chipotle sauce is great and has a little kick to it. Brisket and burnt ends are awesome. Pulled pork...delicious. Baked beans are really good. Mac and cheese is great! If Ryan is working ask for him. One of the best waiters I have ever had. Oh! The cucumber and onion salad is really good too. Pairs well with the meat. Adds a little tang to the meal.

I had the best night! Been here once and was craving their ribs which are amazing! I also ordered the bbq nachos and met the nicest waiter Dwayne he treated us with respect and we got to try all the sauces! We have never had such great service in Kansas City and we eat at many places! I will be going back and definitely asking for Dwayne! Also the brisket sandwich is insane!! I have had both but tried the one with slaw tonight! 10/10

Heading through town and looking for some barbecue as going North. Husband found this listing as award winning. Disappointing. We got the Judges order for ribs, brisket and pulled pork. I like the pulled pork the best as had more flavor. The brisket was dry in my opinion. We took it to go, but dashed through to the bathroom and could not believe how PACKED the restaurant was. It was wall to wall people and chaos. I guess the pandemic is over in Kansas City!

The burnt ends appetizer was great. Honestly the best I have ever had. Really tender and melted in your mouth. We got the Judges plate with brisket, pulled pork and spare ribs. The brisket was amazing, the meat on the ribs just fell off the bone and didn't disappoint. The pulled pork was also great. Our daughter got the pork belly sandwich and that was the best pork belly I have also had too. Not one thing could have been changed or improved.

Prior to visiting,I have heard or read reviews about this restaurant;the majority of them was positive. I will say that the food was really good and the meats were fresh! I had the slicked brisket, ribs and seasoned vegetables. The brisket was the best part of the meal as well as the seasoned vegetables! I didn’t like the baked beans at all, but that is also because I’m not the biggest fan of beans but I did hear that they are beans were top notch but it was disappointing to me. Prices were typical for BBQ places. It’s easier to get the combo if you don’t want to spend a lot. This is a very fast pace atmosphere, and the food comes off very quickly which is very rewarding! Waiter was attentive with great customer service. I will definitely return to try out other items,it’s worrth the hype it gets.

We went here for lunch. The service was great, the food was excellent also. Kim was our server. We had a little bit of everything and enjoyed it all. I highly recommend this restaurant. We especially loved the mac and cheese and creme brulee. The burnt ends and wings were also good.

Such good food, I could eat there almost every day. Brisket was great, burnt ends, chicken, sausage and ribs were amazing. The fries with poutine and Mexican corn were also amazing. I wish we had this place in my home state.

The Mr.Burns and the Triple Threat sandwiches are excellent options for burnt end connoisseurs and smoked sausage lovers, respectively. If you’re from out of town looking for great KC BBQ, Q39 is a must have KC BBQ staple. Q39 encompasses everything there is to love about the BBQ capitol of the world, and you’ll just have to try it yourself to see and taste what I’m talking about. Please do yourself a favor and try the Poutine as an appetizer, you won’t regret it or anything else you order from Q39.

Food is great and Q39 is worth a try. My party had the Judge's Plate, Angus Beef Brisket plate, and the Southern Pride. The meat was delicious, tender, and flavorful on all three. I am surprised there isn't more customization available for the competition plates and the lack of burnt ends. The sides were good but not fantastic. The baked beans had burnt ends in them but none of the amazing burnt end flavor transferred into the beans (and the couple little pieces I had were mainly fat). The fries and orzo pasta salad were fine. I did think the cucumber onion salad was decent. Overall, you certainly should give Q39 a try if you want great BBQ. I recommend your party getting various items and sharing so you can find the items you like most!

Food was great overall. Burt ends were a little chewy instead of juicy & tender. The server let our water go dry even though we had a pitcher at the table. Their beans are not my style and have a lot of chili powder. I liked the ribs. Default sauce it pretty spicy but ask for their sweet sauce and they will deliver it. The acoustics at this location make it too loud for me and I found it challenging to have a conversation. I was there for their lunch rush. Has a bar.

Dined at Q39 recently and was thoroughly impressed! The beef brisket and sausage were standout dishes for me, each packed with flavor and incredibly juicy - a welcome departure from the typically drier versions I've had elsewhere. The service was top-notch, adding to the excellent dining experience. A must-visit spot for BBQ lovers who appreciate succulence and rich taste in every bite.

I’m told this is some of the best barbecue around and I can’t think of a reason to disagree. The burnt ends were fantastic, I had a wonderful flight of local whiskeys, and Lara was fantastic.

There are lots of good BBQ places in this area and this is now our new favorite. The poutine was amazing and the onion strings were worth the heartburn. The brisket, pulled pork, the kids chicken strips were hits too. We also had great service. 10/10

Really impressed!! Such excellent and thoughtful flavors that made the meal wonderful. We ordered the combo plate, the Mr. Burns, a smoked beef brisket dip, and the pork belly appetizer. I can see why the people of KC flock to this restaurant.

As BBQ lovers visiting from out of state, we asked several locals where is the best BBQ. We got several that said Q39 was the best. So this became our first BBQ spot of the trip. The service was very friendly and fast. We were seated before our reservation time. The local beer choices were great. My husband chose the platter with all the meat and added some. All very good, ketchup based bbq. I went with the Salmon with the veggies and slaw. This slaw is fabulous with cilantro, lime, and jalapeños!! And of course we had to try the amazing Mac and Cheese. The meal would not have been completed without it. Glad we stopped in at this lively spot.

The burnt ends are to die for! The brisket is cooked to perfection...."it's what dreams are made of!" I recommend calling ahead and getting a reservation because they are packed! I highly recommend, this is the best burnt and brisket I've ever had.

Good food. Server Emma was great. Love the burnt ends. The problem I had was that I have an allergy. Advised the waitress. While eating, I noticed I wasn't feeling well and found the item in the salad. Took medications. The manager did come over and comped my meal. However, never checked back with us. Very disappointed in the experience.

My family and I were in town for the weekend and we decided to come here during lunch on a Saturday. We failed to make reservations and had 8 people. They got us in quickly. Kim, our waitress, was phenomenal! Very kind, always kept our drinks full, and super attentive. The food was amazing! My parents said that was the best BBQ they have ever had. We had the onion straws, nachos, Buffalo Chicken sandwich, ribs, pork banh mi, p.b.l.t, slab of ribs, Mac and Cheese, and a couple combo plates Will definitely be back!

Visited this barbecue establishment during a trip to the Kansas City area. I got a combo plate with brisket, chicken, and pork belly. All of the meats were great. The sides I got were baked beans and potato salad. The beans seemed to have a cumin seasoning in them which reminded me of Mexican food and not barbecue. The potato salad was a little too salty and mushy. The meats were the stars but the side leave something to be desired.

The wings and Mac and cheese are always my favorite, but the pork belly lettuce and tomato sandwich is pretty dang tasty as well. Can never go wrong with the ribs or classic sandwich. Love when it's a nice day out and they can have the garage doors open, highly recommend this place

Kansas City standard for BBQ for too many years. Assure you get here early, or will assure to wait to eat. Fast, efficient, well valued, consistent and clean. I had the combo platter: smoked chicken (dark meat), sausage and ribs. My white bean cassoulet is not to be missed (live a little). There are better places, but even more worse. If need something consistent and solid...this is your place.

I would say it’s Average , the ambience and taste feels like a chain restaurant. The staff were particularly nice . It’s a good decent one time try . If around , it’s a good choice . Their cauliflower dish was pretty good except the amount of Salt . I felt the chicken to be slightly blunt .

My favorite BBQ in KC! I love their burnt ends🤩. I recommend ordering online but having said that, when we did at checkout time website stated a 20min wait time when in reality it was closer to 1 hour. When I arrived at the restaurant staff said website was incorrect as 80 online orders were in the queue.

I was in Lenexa for job training and just about a every person I asked said try Q39 if you chose one place in the area to remember greater KC area by food wise. Lofty expectations when a majority agree like that. But I absolutely concur after going. Marisol was wonderful, attentive, kind, and conversational with this Texan trying KC BBQ for the first time. She recommended the Mac (excellent), and I got the two meat plate with ribs and sliced brisket along with trying the BBQ Nachos. Ribs were fall off the bone tender, brisket was good, not show stealing, but the Mac & cheese and Ribs made up for it. 5/5 stars.

We enjoyed our food here.the brisket was moist and tasted amazing. The chicken was a little dry and I couldn't get past the smoke flavor on the ribs but, I am very sensitive to smoke. We enjoyed eating here. Overall, the food was good and arrived fast and the service was also great!

  • 4/5 Rique L. 1 year ago on Google
Ok as far as getting this mouthwatering meat perfect they did, very well smoked and tender. I'm sure that's why this place proudly displays their countless competition trophies and awards. I tried the Pork Belly & Sausage Corn Dogs as an appetizer because I've never had that dish before. Surprisingly it was a good and tasty (rated 4). The main dish was Angus Beef Brisket & Burnt Ends (5) with a White Bean Cassualet side (3). The meat was perfectly smoked and the beans were good. I found the BBQ sauce a bit too sweet and tangy for my taste but that's just me. I'm sure the fans of the BBQ world would like it.

  • 4/5 Michael B. 2 years ago on Google
Excellent brisket. Great texture on the pulled pork, but too much reliance on the sauce for flavor. Spare ribs were awesome but I should have gotten sauce on the side. The chicken was very plain. Also some steamed veggies that could have used some butter.

  • 5/5 Salaivalu T. 2 years ago on Google
This place was great! It was a very busy and fun atmosphere. We made reservations and didn't have to wait at all. The baked beans were so good and all of the food was delicious.

"When in Kansas City ya gotta get the BBQ" they say. And this place did not disappoint. Got the "Burnt Ends Burger" and a Cucumber and onion salad. The salad was good, but the burger shined. Burnt ends providing complete coverage on top of a burger from first bite to last? Wow. That was a taste sensation. I could've eaten two. I couldn't afford to eat here all the time, but it was definitely worth the experience.

Would stop again going through KC! Great BBQ! Great Service! Plenty of parking on weekend, had a pickup and 3 horse trailer/5ft short wall. Easy off interstate short distance to there. Food was so good I started eating b5 pic. White bean baked beans a must try!

  • 5/5 Ric B. 2 years ago on Google
Best BBQ we've had here, so far. Even better than the other Q39 location. The brisket was tender and passed the pull test, the ribs were nice and smokey, and the chicken was juicy and tender. We started out with a pork belly appetizer, and it was amazing. Highly recommend it. To finish off my meal I had their smoke old fashion and it was classically made, today they try to make them sugary, but this was perfect. Amazing service from our waitress, Justice. Very friendly.

  • 5/5 Jay W. 2 years ago on Google
We traveled from omaha to eat here and let me tell you it was spectacular. I would recommend the bacon rapped shrimp and pork belly as appetizer and the pick 3 as a meal. It was great. Great server he made up for the poor attitude from the host when we got there. We told him we were on the phone for 30 minutes trying to make a reservation and gave us an attitude but the server definitely made up for it and I left him a 30.00 dollar tip for his great service.
