We stayed at Royalton Antigua with a group of five couples in June 2022. We booked five Junior Suite Diamond Club rooms. Too many things went wrong to document it all here, but overall the main issues were cleanliness of the rooms and service. Upon entering our room there was POOP IN THE TOILET. The butler flushed it, did not apologize, and told us that there are plumbing issues as if this is a normal occurrence. Upon further inspection of the room, it was obvious that the room was not cleaned (probably tidied but not turned over). The sheets were used and stained and the floors were very dirty (see photos). We requested to have the room cleaned and upon returning to it hours later at 6:00 pm it was in the exact same condition. Housekeeping finally cleaned the room by 8:30 pm. For the remainder of our stay, the service was the worst I have ever experienced at a resort. The staff was downright rude. There were some staff who were kind and accommodating but they were very few and far between. On the whole, our group felt unwelcome and the Diamond club butler service was a joke. This is clearly a pervasive issue that is not addressed in any way by management. I booked this vacation without doing my due diligence. I thought that I could trust that we would have a good experience as this is a Marriott property. Do not be fooled like I was. This is a Marriott in name only. The service and treatment by the staff was disgraceful, and I was embarrassed to host a trip for a group here.

I had such a wonderful time at the Royalton in December, staying with my siblings. The diamond swim out room was pristine, and the resort had such a warm, family-friendly vibe. What stood out was the convenience of ordering virtually anything through our smart TV, from delicious meals to a range of pillows, all complimentary for Diamond Club members. Although the room’s swim out pool was cold for our liking, the beach was an absolute paradise, beautifully maintained with crystal-clear waters. I will admit, however, there was a bit of a struggle finding enough beach chairs for Diamond Club guests at the beach. People would reserve them early with towels, sometimes leaving us hunting for seats around the pool area before heading to the beach. However, our experience was made even better by the fantastic service from Maxwell and Sharlene, our wonderful butlers. They were so accommodating, arranging another bed for us in our room, delivering fries to the beach when we got hungry, sorting all out dinner reservations, and even surprising us with adorable Antigua tote bags for our excursions. I highly recommend asking for Maxwell and Sharlene during your stay, they truly made it special! I also have to give credit to Tashia for being fantastic at booking excursions. She was incredibly helpful and friendly, setting us up with a fantastic stingray tour that we loved! Overall, our stay at the Royalton was lovely, and I'm already looking forward to another enjoyable visit hopefully soon!

If I could give less than one star, I would. I am currently here for my wedding of 81 guests and it has been the absolute worse experience ever! Upon arrival, my first round of guests and myself didn’t get our rooms until after 5:00pm. Then later that evening my 11 year old daughter attempted to take a shower and after opening the glass door it fell off the hinges and shattered! My daughter was cut on her foot and her hand. After medics and security came to the room, the manager offered us a free cabana for the next day, how insulting! Additionally, at least 10 other guests had issues with there rooms including, an ac vent falling off the wall, the refrigerator not working, low water pressure and many more things. None of the restaurants are able to accommodate more than 14 people in a party. When your actually able to get a table in one of the restaurants, the food takes at least 45 minutes just to get appetizers. The main course has the absolute minimal amount of food so if you decide to visit this horrible resort, make sure to order 2 of everything so that you can get full! This has been the most horrible wedding experience and vacation for my family, friends and I. DO NOT COME HERE!!!! I’d rather take my chances at a roach motel!

I really do not understand all of these fantastic reviews, unless they are all people who paid for Diamond Club. I hold meetings for a living. My clients requested to meet on a beautiful Caribbean island. Did some looking around and we decided to go to Antigua. We have had meetings on other island and pretty much knew what to expect. From the time the clients started to book their rooms I knew this was going to be a problem. Let me start by saying that the people who work at the Royalton, for the most part, are all very nice, friendly and accommodating. My negative comments are the overall lack of management direction of the people. Communication is non existent. Follow-up? What's that?! The whole diamond club nonsense just makes half of the people, second class. I brought over 30 people there with their families, they stayed an average of 5 nights. So, 150 room nights at not an inexpensive place by any stretch and you cant book a restaurant, because not everyone in my group opted for the Diamond nonsense. Oh, and acknowledgment of Bonvoy status? NONE. Nice place, nice beach, nice people, horrible management. Do not go there with a group. Waited hours for my room. Then it was wrong. Still waiting for a copy of my hotel bill and the copies of the charges for events weeks after. Emails, phone calls, none returned. Needed a projector screen as stated in the contract. Nope. None on the island was the answer! Nonsense.

The Royalton Antigua was extremely clean. Our rooms were refreshed each morning and facilities were properly maintained. Each restaurant had great food and drinks that kept flowing! Overall, the resort itself had everything you could have wanted while vacationing. Though there was much made available to enjoy, and there is a lot, this resort severely lacks customer service and communication skills. It was as if guests were a bother to those hired to work. As I’m writing this review, we have been waiting at the security post for over an hour trying to head to the airport due to the guard being on his phone. The group that I traveled with eventually adjusted to the fact everything would be done 30 minutes or more after being requested. Though there is staff that’s really kind, such as butlers, the majority were extremely rude and/or immature. Ultimately, I would not recommend or return to this resort.

Went with a group of 12 at the beginning of January. We had a great time! Had no issues getting our group into the restaurants and we all agreed the food was phenomenal! The beach was perfect and the pool was great but we just chose to be in the ocean more. Would love to return one day! Great vacation! (Don’t believe all the bad reviews!!! We read them before we went and we had no issues.)

I had an outstanding experience at this hotel! The staff's attentiveness and friendliness were remarkable. Vanessa, the manager, went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. The bartenders were fantastic, serving with skill and charm. The grounds were impeccably clean, and the rooms were not only nice but also exceptionally comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel for a delightful and welcoming stay.

A few days before our scheduled arrival, I read reviews and panicked. When I arrived, most of what I experienced did not echo the reviews. The wait staff at the buffet & restaurants was so kind and always had a big smile on their face, even remembering & greeting our 1 year old each day. The rooms were of good size for my husband, myself, and our almost 2 year old, no mold or cockroaches seen, as I had read in previous reviews. We always got into the restaurants even if we had to wait 30-60 minutes (did not have diamond club). I always got a beach towel even around 4pm each day. The food was mediocre, but with an all inclusive it was expected. We came for the beaches which did not disappoint, one of the best I have ever seen. We had to call maintenance once & they arrived within 5 minutes. We went in July so maybe off-season is the time to go! We always found a beach or pool chair open, even late afternoon. Definitely much better than I had expected!

So me and my wife just left. First off the location is beautiful. The pool and beach are picture perfect. The rest of the hotel needs some small fixes to make it amazing. Half the staff is super nice and friendly. The other half hates being there. Me and my wife found it funny that so many of the workers were miserable. The restaurant was never packed but they still make you wait at dinner time. The steak house was decent and the Italian was our favorite. We did one excursion which was fun. The hotel itself the elevators didn't work so we had to go up a flight or down a flight to get on. The AC in our room was not the best . It kept the room slightly cool but still pretty hot. The room service came everyday and a good job cleaning. Overall I didn't no what to expect. We did have a good time but felt it could of been better. Just starting with more people smiling.

Stayed here during Christmas with my family of 7. The exceptional level of attentiveness from the staff truly stood out. Every member, from the front desk to the housekeeping team, was dedicated to ensuring our comfort and satisfaction. A special mention goes to Manager Vanessa, whose commitment to going above and beyond left a lasting impression. Vanessa not only addressed our needs promptly but also took the initiative to make certain that every aspect of our stay exceeded expectations. The bartenders at the hotel deserve applause for their exceptional service. The combination of attentive service and the warm, welcoming demeanor of the staff made the overall experience truly memorable. The hotel's commitment to cleanliness was evident throughout the grounds. From the lobby to the outdoor spaces, everything was immaculate. The well-maintained surroundings enhanced the overall ambiance and contributed to a sense of relaxation. Moreover, the rooms were not only clean but also elegantly appointed, providing a comfortable and inviting retreat after a day of exploration. This hotel stands out for its exceptional staff, led by the remarkable Vanessa, and its commitment to cleanliness and guest satisfaction, making it a top choice for a delightful and rejuvenating stay! I highly recommend this resort to anyone visiting Antigua!

The people of Antigua are quite special. Our stay at the Royalton was good, but it’s the people that make it incredible. From our daily Diamond Club breakfasts with Lisa welcoming us with a smile, impeccable service by Leesa, our afternoons with Javohne and Anya at the beach, and our butler Errolson going above and beyond, we could not have had a better experience. The locals on the beach (Stone Cold, Priest, Chris) added to our experience. Everyone treated us like family and took such good care of us. We look forward to coming back to this beautiful country. Thank you all for a wonderful vacation!

People are friendly. Beach is beautiful Rooms are clean but washroom shower tiles are needing attention. Multiple days there were no beach towels by noon. Multiple days there we no face cloths left in the rooms. Bar service at the pool and beach was great from 930am to 1030 then we did not see anyone till 4. Super annoying to ah e to give your name and room number wherever you eat. We all have a bracelet to identify that we are from the resort. Why is this necessary? I can say that there were no mosquitoes. Would not go back to this resort.

The resort itself is beautiful with a gorgeous beach and wonderful views. We had very mixed experiences with staff, they were either very nice and helpful or rude, no in between. While we were there we were asked for our feedback on the resort daily and were told that the resort had executives from Cuba on site trying to fix a variety of staff and resort issues. We also had issues with items being advertised/written as included in our rooms and then not being provided those items, only excuses as to why they weren't available. Two examples were the included bottle of liquor that we were told repeatedly would be given to us the next day only to be told the last day we should never have been promised it. The other was wifi. The wifi in the Diamond section of the pool was out 90% of the time we were there and every time we asked for it to be fixed we would be told it was our phones' issues, not the resort. We even checked with other patrons and no one in the Diamond section had signal for days on end. We had additional staff issues and issues with things being unavailable so we spoke with management requesting our resort fee be reimbursed. We were told they would work on the reimbursement and we would hear from them. We never heard anything from them again, including to our follow-up emails. Beautiful resort, but service does not meet expectations.

I had a great vacation with my sisters celebrating her Birthday. We got the diamond club experience and I just want to tell you about our Butlers Sharlene, the manager Eric and Maxwell at the desk was amazing. Sharlene made our stay at Royalton by far the best she was always there taking care of us and making sure we had everything we wanted. The restaurants was great food was good! The buffet in the morning has a better breakfast. Everything was amazing. Fun trip we will be back!

Wonderful experience. The staff are so friendly, professional, helpful, and genuine. The weather was perfect, the beach right at the resort is calm and relaxing , the water is nice and clear. For the food I enjoyed the buffet. Royalton is truly a relaxing resort. I didn't book with the spa but my friends did and they absolutely enjoyed it! The rooms with the bay view are best, can see the sunrise and sunset from balcony which is gorgeous. My only complaint is the floor has too much moisture! Never felt dry enough. Otherwise lovely room and bathroom!

We travelled from Dec 22-29, 2022 with our kids for Christmas. Reading other reviews I was very concerned, and about two weeks before our travel I was almost panicked... Lesson learned - I will never read reviews before travelling again... Or at least be really selective in what I give credit to. **We did NOT upgrade to diamond elite** The hotel is lovely, the staff are beautiful and kind, the food was excellent, and the entertainment was also excellent. I had a concern and went to guest services, and they were incredible in their customer service. They corrected the issue right away. Our room faced the hill, which meant it was double the size of the water facing rooms. Shower had a seat, with two large rainfall shower heads and a handheld shower. Loved the coffee shop and the staff were awesome.

The staff was friendly and the facilities looked great, but there was unfortunately some basic service issues that put a damper on the experience. We didn't get the room we booked, with the excuse that "there are a lot of families staying here right now." If that were the case, perhaps we should have been told when we booked that the room we were booking was not available. Worse yet, it could also have meant that we had booked the room successfully but then someone else jumped us after we already paid for it, which is pretty bad. Everyone was friendly and the service was generally fine, but it seemed like the biggest problem was miscommunication and lack of staff. The poor pool bar sometimes has 2 bar tenders in the middle of the day when there were 20 people across 4 different sides waiting to get a drink. We also weren't told very clearly about how we would literally be locked out of our rooms at 11:30 to check out at 12. The worst of it was the food service timing. The food overall was good, especially everything available for their local buffet night, but as a group of 9 we waited at least an hour and a half for every meal. I get that as a group of 9, it's going to be tough to service everybody in a short period of time, but the portion sizes weren't exactly gigantic, and this was happening at literally every restaurant for literally every meal. I don't really understand why it takes an hour and a half to get lunch at a sports bar with fairly simple food to make. It ended up really limiting what we could do for lunch, and just made dinner inconvenient when we would have dinner at 6 but not be done until close to 9, when there wasn't much going on at night on the resort that interested us. It felt like we lost time we could have otherwise spent at the pool or on the beach waiting for lunch and dinner. Unfortunately, I don't think I can really recommend anyone to go to the Royalton Antigua. It was far from a bad experience, but I just know that there are resorts out there that don't have these same issues in a similar price range that I or anyone else can just go to instead.

Everything was beautiful about this place. I really can't complain. I was a little apprehensive on booking because of some of the reviews that I saw before hand. There were minor issues that I didn't let spoil my vacation. Some employees need to work on communication skills. Seems like everyone is not always on the same page. The gentleman at the tour desk which I will leave nameless definitely needs some communication classes. Room service also did not deliver our breakfast on time before we left to do our excursion. Thankfully we were able to get something on the boat. Other than that it was a relaxing vacation. Please visit the SPA. They have hydrotherapy which was amazing to do after a good work out. I do recommend 😊

Here’s my detailed summary of this hotel. Caste system- the hotel is setup in a way where you have to pay extra for the things other hotels include. You can’t make reservations for the restaurant unless you are a Diamond Club member. Diamond club had food available to them on the beach/pool while the “commoners” had to go to the buffet or seated grill restaurants that were back near the rooms. Staff- very friendly and accommodating. We had 1-2 grumpy staff experiences but not enough to ruin our vacay. Check in and out was very mechanical. Never got to give my review of my stay upon exiting. Room- was spacious but just like any other hotel room there was nothing in it that says “luxury”. The double beds (paid king bed price) was on wheels like a roll away. We had to ask for face towels & hand soap repeatedly. No issue with mini bar. Found a LARGE cockroach in our room on our last night! Too freaked out to take a pic. Property- beautiful and well maintained. Blue waters and quiet. The hotel is not close to downtown so you have to take a taxi to get to any shops or nightclubs. Entertainment- excellent and lots of variety. Loves the silent party and the themed nights. Live bands were great. Excursion - avoid going to Shirley Heights on Sunday & Thursday nights. It’s a tourist trap. Go during the day. Took us an hour in line to get food then another hour to get drinks. Entertainment was exactly the same as you’d get at the hotel for free. Recommend the around the island catamaran tour. Walk up the hill to the ruins in running shoes. Don’t do it in flip flops unless you want to go for a slide downwards. Restaurants - buffet had a good variety but the food was often lukewarm. Steakhouse & Caribbean were the best a la cart. Italian was meh. This hotel desperately need a walk up grill on the beach, you have to be seated everywhere for lunch. The Caribbean restaurant’s Chef Sherlon made mouth watering oxtail for us and a few other guests who asked for it. A special thanks to Mrs Francis (restaurant supervisor) who helped us out several times otherwise we wouldn’t have eaten until 9pm due to the first come first serve treatment of non-Diamond Club guests. This hotel was not CHEAP, then Royalton wants you to add another $2K more to be treated better. I’d stay at another hotel in Antigua but definitely not a Royalton for the price and 2-tier system. This island is worth visiting but I recommend you stay elsewhere 👍.

I have stayed at the hotel a year ago which I was very impressed with. But it seems something has changed the attitude of the staff. They are no longer happy, minimal interaction and other than some of the vibes team members they are very unfriendly. The beach is one of the best on the island and the good is decent but we could do something about the the snack bar. Sitting and waiting for a midday snack/ burger or wings make zero sense.

The resort itself is beautiful, management is really trying- but the place can use some tightening up. Thats truly all it needs. Our butler Andre was PHENOMENAL and is truly the reason for the extra star. We recommend doing the diamond club. The rooms are nice! The room service can definitely improve their cleaning, especially in the bathroom. There was missed hair and dirt behind the bathroom door and in the shower drain. No huge deal. The food was really good at most restaurants! Huge plus. Service was great. Everyone was super kind )because I myself, am kind). The bartenders at the swim up bar were MAGNIFICENT! Thank you, Julian! Only downside was the romantic $400 “on the beach” dinner that we booked. They didn’t disclose that the dinner would be in a cabana (the cabanas are not on the beach). That would’ve been fine, if we didn’t book that same cabana for the following day. The entire debacle was a mess. Overall, I’d definitely return, they just have to fine tune their communication.

Overall a good and positive, relaxing experience. There were some fantastic attentive staff and the location is fabulous. The beach and pools are ideal. Unfortunately some aspects of the service were not as expected. Food was on the disappointing side in some of the restaurants, queues/waits could be long, some staff had poor attitudes and basic requests could not be accommodated.

Meeting Margaret, an outstanding bartender who made my stay even with an extremely limited bar stock compared to other resorts. The steel pan presentation outside the restaurant was very cool but wished it had been longer. I received a warm welcome at the front desk but they neglected to show me the property. I had to inquire about my room readiness as I was starving and needed to change. Didn’t find anything impressive onsite, having stayed at in All-Inclusive in other countries. The room I had was just okay. $50 taxi from Deep Bay south is legit robbery. Hard pass.

Nice resort, but with some small glitches. Overall the staff are very warm and welcoming at this resort. There is a good selection and choice of food. The quality of the food is pretty good. In terms of the rooms, there was some slight issue with mildew in some of the rooms. The bedding was very inexpensive and lesser quality. The location of the resort is very good on a lovely sand beach. Improvements I would make that would be very cost effective and improve the overall guest experience would be to improve the bedding quality ie better sheets and pillows, and improve on the relatively minor issue of mildew in some of the rooms. Overall, this is a decent resort and I was happy to stay here.

Deep Bay has one of the most beautiful beaches in Antigua, potentially one of the most tranquil places on earth. I found this when I first stayed here in the 1990s under its previous guise of The Royal Antiguan. In contrast, the Royalton looks like a block of council flats from the 1960s with a guest experience modeled on one of the ubiquitous party catamarans circling the island. Brash, loud music numbed by beer and cocktails. Obviously some people must love this and maybe I just got old but the change since my previous visits could not be more dramatic. In the meantime I have holidayed at numerous 5 and the occasional 7 star hotels as well as budget choices where premium options were unavailable. Never once have I been sworn at. Welcome to the Royalton. Four times I was verbally assaulted with the f word by a member of staff. Like one of the other reviews states: "Half the employees are lovely, the other half seem like they don't want to be here". Just like living with the people on one of those council estates. I give one star for the seven star location, but if you listen carefully beneath the relentless boom , boom, boom of the sound systems, you can hear the soul of Deep Bay weeping

Hello all! We had a wonderful time at the resort! The beach was perfection! Go snorkeling near the end of the cove where you will see a variety of fishes and sea turtles in the morning. I had fantastic service and smiles all day. The buffet was delicious and so much variety! You can tell they really made sure everyone had a good time and taken care of. The room was beautiful, mini fridge stocked and the drinks delightful. I was in awe of the millions of butterflies that flew out after the rain. Not sure what everyone complained about, we had a fantastic time!

Absolutely first class service and resort. Great selection of food and bars with an an excellent team of people working at this resort. Our room was immaculate and everyone we met was very friendly. There was a good selection of entertainment to suit most tastes. The pools were lovely and very clean. There were a number of activities available and I would recommend taking advantage of these. We will be going back so if you get a chance to visit, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

I had a really good time at this resort during my vacation. The staff was friendly and the food was good. The hotel room was spacious and house keeping cleaned the room daily. There was good water pressure as well. The pools were nice. The umbrellas on the beach provided nice shade. Sometimes there was music playing poolside and sometimes there wasn't. The location was very convenient when traveling to the airport, other beaches and clubs. The nightly entertainment was hit or miss. This is a family friendly resort so they did have a few kid activities. Overall, I enjoyed myself and would return.

Spent a day at the Royalton. The service was excellent. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. The selection of food at breakfast and lunch was fabulous and the items I had were delicious. The grounds are very well decorated. It was easy finding a spot at the pool and beach. We took part in kayaking, pool aerobics and volleyball. Overall, everyone in the group had a great day. Would definitely visit again.

Everything was perfect! Resort is beautiful and they wedding staff did an excellent job with EVERYTHING! Butler service is a must! They were more than accommodating. On the day of my wedding, my room had not been cleaned and the photographer was on his way to take pictures. The butlers and one lovely lady from housekeeping came and did an awesome job cleaning! They saved me! Michelle from the wedding department was awesome. It was just perfect! They made my wedding day extra perfect. I gave 4 stars because I did not like the food too much, and there was one waitress at the restaurant that has the night club who was not nice to us. She was actually very nasty. We couldn't understand the reason, but she did not ruin our experience. I would definitely go back!

We stayed at this hotel in January/24 & we loved it! Everything was good & enjoyable. The location of this property, its rooms ,the food at the various restaurants, as well as the nightly entertainment were all satisfactory. The beach area, pool & various beach bars were excellent & the people were always smiling and accommodating. Specialty restaurants were good without any difficulty in getting a table. Top marks go to the Buffet( Marche ) & Hunter’s steak house!! The worst was Gracie The Italian restaurant! People were not that experienced, food was lousy, the fish was very dry & not eatable & we had to ask for more wine & a dessert!! Check-in was smooth & without a problem. The room was excellent, clean & with a nice bay view! Exception- the jacuzzi near the pool had cold water & spoke to the Manager one day, who promised to look into it.Nothing was done during our stay!!! Overall, a beautiful resort & an enjoyable stay!!

The general themes of the majority of the reviews are quite accurate: 1) it’s a 50/50 whether the staff are friendly or straight up rude 2) food is AWFUL at pretty much every restaurant and service is very slow 3) Diamond club is not worth it, but the swim up rooms are the biggest waste of money. Freezing cold and we didn’t use it once. 4) the Jacuzzis are not heated at all, essentially cold whirlpools. In January, all pools are very cold. 5) the beach is nice though with smooth sand While it was a lot more affordable at Royalton compared to other all inclusive resorts in Antigua, I wish I had paid more to go to the other resorts. Royalton Antigua was disappointing, even with the Diamond Club and swim up room upgrades.
