This resort is a top rated 3 star(something to keep in mind when you review it). We stayed in the Royal Palm area. This was an upgrade that was worth it. These are semi-bungalows that have awesome air conditioning, wifi, large renovated two sink bathrooms, and an extremely comfortable king bed. Mini fridge too. They are 20 steps away from the beach. They are numbered from 107 to 127. Lower being closer to the main area of the hotel dining and higher down further on the beach. We had 124 but I will request 119 or 120 when we return because there's a great tree that shades in front of those two. The food was top rated for a 3 star. It changed each night for the 7 days we were there. Staff everywhere in the hotel were really nice. We will return. Message me if you want any other info. We had an awesome time!

Really a no frills all inclusive. I will tell you the beaches are superb and it is a beautiful setting. The accommodations are outdated and need work but cute cottages overlooking beaches. There are no TVs in the rooms, lights in room may or may not work, need painting. Food is reasonable for the price. Service is hit or miss depending on person you interact with. Mostly an older crowd that comes here. If you are fine with these things then check it out for a few days. Couples you can find ways to keep selves busy.

Last minute as our plans changed. Glad they did! We had a meeting to attend at another property nearby and wanted a quiet couple of days. Read a lot of these reviews so expectations were muted. This is an older property, on a great beach, with great staff and management. My room rating reflects the actual room, not how it met our expectations. We knew it was not the Waldorf when we booked it. The whole stay was great! The food is good, fresh and plentiful. was there a huge variety, not really, but it was good. The only negative thing I can really say is that they need more beach chairs. This place is nice and quiet. On the beach, quaint is a good way to describe it. Bring bug spray, nothing against the property, Antigua has a lot of mosquitos! Be prepared to walk. Will absolutely go back.

Awful place. Wouldn't go again if it was free. The whole resort needs a full refurb, it's old, tired and shabby. There is no shade on the beach so everyone is trying to find a tree to sit under, there is no free drinking water.....you have to pay $3 a bottle for it and if you want air conditioning in your room, you have to upgrade as the garden rooms only have a ceiling fan and a stand fan and in 30° heat it's stifling. On arrival you get 2 beach towels but unless you get to the water sports hut at the optimum moment, you can't get them changed because they have none left. There is a problem with mice in some of the rooms as there is a 2 inch gap under the front door. My friend noticed a bad smell in her room and found 2 dead mice stuck to a glue trap under the fridge then heard another one squealing because it was stuck to another glue trap under the drawers. The receptionist couldn't have been less interested but that was nothing new because most of the staff give you the impression that they would rather be working somewhere else. Breakfast is good but the rest of the food leaves a lot to be desired. Don't waste your hard earned money on this place, spend a bit more and go somewhere decent.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Hawksbill. The price was right and the location is breathtaking. I believe the place is now closed for a make-over, which is definitely needed - however, as our expectations were managed going in, it didn’t make our vacation feel any less. The beaches are stunning, the water turquoise and location beautiful. It really came down to the small things on the resort, which are easily fixable - it seemed the management staff were a bit out of step with the rest of the staff. Being offered a drink on arrival and the drink never materializing, off-menu items pricing not clear, then when we did figure it out, the item not being available, which it obviously was as people were eating what we wanted around us. I think those issues are on the company that runs the resort, not even resort management, as those things can simply be fixed with some training. If they worked a little harder on the smaller things, it would make a difference overall. All-in-all, we were there to rest and relax, and if you want that, with a great price-point, this is a great option. Look forward to seeing the resort post-reno. Shout-out to Dalston, David and Brad along with the restaurant staff - you were all amazing!

Rooms cleaned every day but do need renovation. The grounds are looked after and kept clean and tidy, although a couple of areas could do with bits of junk cleared. Food and drink very good. Staff in general are very good with a couple of them going the extra mile. Dress code for dinner is not enforced so casual T shirt and shorts are warn by some. Me and my wife had a lovely time and would recommend. But it is more casual/relaxed than up market.

Beautiful beach setting. Pool is not huge and only 3 feet deep. Staff are wonderful but parts of the resort are in need of an upgrade.

Where do I start, Denise at the front desk was very friendly and kind...the staff was very approachable and greeted you each day with a morning smile. Dalton and Judith are both awesome at their jobs. We are a family of 4 and we really enjoyed our stay a Hawksbill resort...very quiet and a good place for relaxing and unplugging from social media.

This is a fantastic resort with fantastic surroundings. They are closing soon until October for refurbishment (which is essential) so after that do not hesitate. Fantastic staff and the resort attracts fantastic guests. Cannot fault anything.

Do not stay here! I wish I could put zero stars as this was hands down the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed in! The entire place needs a complete refurb - even the front desk staff! No aircon in our original room - only a ceiling fan and which made no difference in 30 degree heat, so paid extra for a room with AC. The hotel has a real fly infestation problem - we had to adapt at meal times to using 1 hand to eat with and the other to constantly fan away flies. There were dozens of flies on the sinks and wall directly above the food buffet. Our room had a missing window shutter, torn mesh in the windows and a large gap under the door, which let in a host of mosquitos and flies constantly. Although we bought mosquito spray and coil, it made little difference. 4 days into our stay the hotel used an industrial mosquito repellant on the grounds, which smelt so bad it was suffocating. There’s no free tap water - you have to pay $3 for a bottle. Half the staff act like they don’t want to be there. The food was lukewarm at best and either bland or too salty and god forbid you want a snack outside of the set meal times - you simply won’t find one! The Wifi is patchy and only accessible in certain areas. Most of the guests were 60+ and had no issue with the lack of entertainment or activities provided. The final straw was when 2 large lizards got into our room and the front desk asked my husband why he didn’t just catch them himself!

What a fantastically laid back, intimate, quiet resort. Hawksbill by Rex, Antigua offers an affordable experience on an otherwise expensive Caribbean island. If you are looking for five star accommodation, gourmet dining, concierge or 24 hour butler service...then this place is definitely NOT for you - this place is SO much more than that. It is not one, but FOUR beautiful beaches (including Antigua's only clothing optional beach); hearty, small batch, in house prepared food (not haute cuisine, but simple and satisfying); generous bar service (be aware of the rum punch, as it packs a real PUNCH!); and a friendly, small staff that go above and beyond to make your stay memorable. There are only about a hundred or so rooms on this resort, none of which are more than about 300 feet to the waters edge. There is one small TV near the beach bar, which leaves guests no other option but to relax, read a book, listen to the waves and make new friends and acquaintances. Snorkeling equipment, kayaks, and hobby cats, as well as beach towels are available on the beach and the snorkeling is great right off the beach, without having to pay for an expensive off resort excursion. The setting is beautiful with the azure coloured Caribbean sea outstretched before you and the lush Antiguan hills behind you. Goats, pigs, ducks, geco's and off course the resorts two resident cats, Maverick and Lolly roam freely about, making for a memorable experience not found on other resorts that I've visited. If you are looking for quiet, unpretentious, relaxation at an affordable price point, this place is a must go to. Keep an open mind when going here (it's not sandals or the royalton), and remember that any other the other resorts on the island start at least twice the price of this place. I would NOT hesitate to go back here. We met fantastic people who we shared great moments with, and had an excellent overall experience!

Just loved it! Such a relaxing spacious resort. The food was generally very good and really enjoyed the benefits of booking direct ie free transfers and mini bar. It will be interesting to see the resort when all the upgrade works have been completed but none of ongoing the works really impacted our stay. Service could be hit and miss (particularly from the younger staff who also need to smile more!). Would certainly visit again and recommend to others.

This is our second time here and hopefully won’t be the last. You cannot beat the natural beauty of the spot. The staff are fantastic and welcoming. Food is good, with the exception of Tuesday night this week, which was a disaster. We ate around 8:30 and pickings were pitifully slim. IMHO the resort should return to staggered seating times to avoid staff stress and long waits. I enjoyed the entertainment - a pity the audience is generally not in a dancing mood and a tough crowd to play to. The infinity pool is a gorgeous addition and a nice option when waters are rough.

Fantastic location, staff, and value for money. We found the food quite good at this price: certainly plentiful. David is an ace cocktail-maker and his friendliness makes him a great asset to the place. Rooms are OK, but even the refurbished ones have minor issues - for instance, paper-thin walls mean that noise from neighbours can be intrusive, and our hot water was yellowish, so that we weren't inclined to take a bath. The walls would benefit from some simple artwork. Excellent beds, though, and clean enough. Entertainment was good (best of all being the fire-eating limbo dancer). Beaches are within easy reach and pleasant for swimming, once you know the best access points. Sunbeds are plentiful, except on Eden beach (which, however, is a dream for a clothing-optional experience). One unexpected bonus is how easy it was to make friends with other guests. All in all, given that the location is heavenly and the staff super-friendly and helpful, we had a wonderful time and will certainly be looking to return.

Took over 3 hours to get a key to the room and the front desk manager ("Denise") who has no management or people skills just made the experience worse. Staff, even though short staffed were incredible. Resort is run down. They are fixing it up..............slowly. Wish i could say we had a great time, but check in ruined it for us.

Great beaches and lovely secluded atmosphere. The rooms could really use updating, but the beds are comfortable. The food and drinks are pretty good for an all inclusive. The staff is not too friendly but they are efficient.

Great resort with amazing staff! Didn't really have any issues other than a lack of plug sockets to charge our devices but that was no big deal. Also be aware the floors in the rooms are very slippery when your feet are wet. Make use of the hut next to the lunch area though they provide snorkling gear and all sorts all included in your all inclusive stay!

The hotel was far away from everything so need a car to go there. When we arrive they said children is charge as an adult so had to pay extra. Try to add an extra person they said room capacity is 3 so had to put in a solo room. The food has no taste very bland for Islandic food, i was surprised. They cook without salt. The rice is undercooked for dinner, breakfast is good although still no salt. No water bottles are provided. The rooms are infernal hot. The ceiling fan doesn’t work it is for decoration. The wall have shutters that cannot open fully as some don’t work. So we had to ask for an extra fan. You can tell they don’t set up the room before customer arrive and that the room are possible set for a long time and just no one book them because why wasn’t the fan turn on in advance to cool the room before customer arrive. It was 10pm at night when we were heading to our room and it was that hot. They do have room service but they don’t change sheets. The fridge is dirty so we didn’t dare use the cups left on top of them. The towels and sheets were dingy like when a white towel has been used for years and no longer white and it’s time to be change. I think there need to be an upgraded but the food servers are very nice and receptive to what you need. On our way out, they charge a $5 per night international fee. Very different from what I expected. The views though of the water was beautiful

Now, this was an amazing place. Beautiful beaches, clear blue waters. Great food and drinks were great. Staff and management are really organised and attentive . Entertainment every night with a great local band. Great organised tours of the island. Stingray City is a definite yes and must visit. Incredible experience. Love this island as people are homely and so helpful and friendly. Will definitely go back.

Resort has only two options for food. Buffet for breakfast and dinner and a snack bar for burgers, wrap, or fish for lunch ..very repetitive. Cubanesque. Daytime bar 10am to 5pm...always out of beer or just changing keg...foamy pour, then flat beer. Questionable sanitary procedures...drinkware given quick swish in soapy water, then rinsed in less soapy water...ice was often scooped by hand into drinks. Overall poor. Breakfast was adequate and dinner was usually good at the buffet. Rooms were nice and our maid cheerful and pleasant. Buffet staff a bit surly. Nightime bar staff, where bottled beer served, were great as well. Bring your own travel mug. 4 beaches, main one by snack bar looked great. Glad I tried...would not return.

We have just arrived home from Antigua and stayed a surprise week at Hawksbill. It was a surprise for a couple of reasons- we were due to stay elsewhere but on arrival were told our accommodation was overbooked. We spent a couple of hours looking for another resort and arrived on the doorstep of Hawksbill who were so incredibly welcoming and offered us their last available room which was a huge relief for us. This is a resort I have bypassed when booking hotels in Antigua in the past. I have stayed in many of the island’s hotels and avoided this as it looked too shabby for my liking. However, we were quite impressed for the price. Our room was a beach front ‘Palm’ room ( number 126) which I believe is a premium room. It was very Caribbean colonial and simple. It had AC and a ceiling fan. It had a comfortable bed with two dressing tables, a large wardrobe, a safe and a huge bathroom with his and hers basins, a bath, a bidet and power shower. After our long journey and then the stress of driving around to look for emergency accommodation I really fancied a bath but the plug wouldn’t work. We called the reception and they sent a man straight out to fix it. The best thing about the room was the location of the beach. That’s why we come to the Caribbean and what more can you ask for from a room than it being literally on the beach with endless views of the turquoise sea. Beautiful and very peaceful. The resort itself needs a makeover but is having one in mere weeks. I’m aware they are closing for a complete refurb and putting in an infinity pool which it desperately needs. The existing pool is ghastly and I wouldn’t risk dipping a toe in but that didn’t bother me when there were four beaches to choose from. The food is another matter. I really hope they improve this aspect of the resort. This is the only all inclusive resort I have ever stayed in that doesn’t offer much in variety of food. My fiancée is vegetarian and there was certainly a lack of variety of salads, vegetables and fish options. It would have been lovely to see a prawn salad one evening. The food was very basic and at times, canteen like or of a school dinner vibe. The other issue, if you couldn’t face lunch or dinner or you missed it if you were out, then you were scuppered and would go hungry as there are no food options outside of allocated ‘eating’ hours. I have never encountered this before. The staff are lovely and one day when we planned to go hiking they made us warmed breakfast rolls and gave us some bananas for a mini picnic as we would miss breakfast. The staff seemed much friendlier and happier than at a more expensive Antiguan Hotel we recently stayed at (St James) I’d put their food above Hawksbills because they had a wider variety and offered cuisine at all times of day. The Hawksbill is tired but that is being rectified. I do hope they sort out the food issue, because as far as we were concerned, it is an issue. It would also be lovely if a coffee/cake bar could be added to bring the resort up to some of the other local hotel standards. Overall this resort was a pleasant surprise. Sweet, Caribbean, beautifully located, quiet and a nice chill out place. Do not visit if you want night life, want to be within walking distance of shops / anything, or struggle with steps. This hotel has a charm about it and I might be interested in booking in the future if the prices stay where they are and they improve the food, facilities and decor.

This place is hot, very hot! For relaxation this place is just perfect. Oh and 1 week is just not long enough. 1st pic is the view from our room 😍 The rooms are quite basic but still lovely, pretty and very acceptable. The beaches are amazing and never very full, always sumwhere to lay but not anywhere shaded for the milk bottles like myself. A few new umbrellas wouldnt go a miss. The swimming pool is tiny but does the job. Food was good, lots of options, drinks very good, staff were just perfect. The goats roaming around was just hilarious, a few resident cats also, they are not really friends but super friendly and cute.

I so happened to get the worst cottage room there was ( 67) I believe, before changing it five days later. My friends paid the same amount. But had nice cottage rooms near the beach. I was in the back near the forest with mosquitoes and the smell from the drain for the toilets was in the air at night. Rusted hot water tank. I had to run the water a bit to get the rust out. The mosquitoes were coming into the room by the screens that had big gaps on the side. The rooms in the middle and front are renovated. If you don’t like your room , talk to your travel agent right away, not the front desk. They are in the middle of renovations that will start full time from April to November I believe. That’s the negative part. The staff in general were fantastic. Very friendly, nice people. The food was fantastic, with a lot of choices .The entertainment was very good .Antigua is a very safe island with lots of Caribbean culture. I believe I would go back to Hawksbill once all the renovations are done. Then I would give it five stars. +++++.

Oh dear. We truely liked Hawksbill. Enough to return 4 times. You just cannot beat the location. But....you have to remember that it's a 3 star hotel. And that they cater for....I quote.....' the back of the plane'.....ha!!! Charming!!!!! Renovation, which is badly needed is happening from April with the construction of an Infinity Pool. ....prices to go up to cover. Now..... I'm not sure about returning as I believe prices will double!!! Will the Food. Accommodation. Facilities. Sewage works be improved enough to accommodate the price increase????? Guess we'll have to wait and see .

Very quiet place so it's great if your ideal vacation is just laying on the beach with an incredible view. There wasn't much to do on resort other than swim and snorkel (btw, SUP cannot be rented). Food was tasty but sort of repetitive. Staff are really kind and wonderful people!

  • 2/5 Mary G. 1 year ago on Google
We had mixed feelings about the resort. Whilst the location is excellent and some staff members were so very welcoming. There are many things that don't do it justice for example room 57 has no AC probably like a few others, we made do with a fan. Beach loungers falling apart in some cases. The pool is not inviting at all, looks dirty and on the small side. The food is repetitive and not always enjoyable. Lunch at the beach bar was very nice but a little chaotic with everyone waiting to eat around the same times. Water sports were a lot of fun, special thanks to Fenton who was always great to chat with. It didn't help that we had 1 week booked as our first trip to the Carribean and ended up displaced due to the hotel overbooking. We were one of 4 couples that it happened to that week. Difficult to unpack and relax when you're being moved from one resort to another.

Beautiful Location, Friendly Staff. Very Good Food & Drink with all-inclusive level. Come Here for the Beach, Not the Swimming Pool. Expect Walking & Steps.

We’re at the end of our stay here. It was fabulous! We liked the food, room, beaches, equipment. They are renovating the resort. It is already nice. It will be wonderful once they’re done. The staff is super friendly and care about their place. We plan to come back.

Hawksbill is a no-frills, all-inclusive resort with lots of space. Much of the resort has been recently refurbished, although some people miss the old colonial laid-back style. The USP for Hawksbill is its location with over 180 degrees of the ocean where the sun dips down every night. The staff are lovely and always try to be helpful. The one disappointment is the food. Breakfast is fine, but lunch and dinner are basic and sometimes not very good at all. However, if the food was better, perhaps the price would go up and we are very happy with our annual 2 weeks in this beautiful location.
