I've been there to check the Christmas decorations and buy some handcrafted gifts. The place is huge but well maintained. There are nice restaurants in the park. There were some small attractions for kids. I found it nice for a visit and some traditional Germanic food.

Purely touristy place. No actual German homes. If you like beer and overpriced memorabilia, go for it. Not free tables to sit. Pay parking outside. You may park 3 blocks away for free ( I did not go on Octoberfest).
