Rankin's Jerk

Restaurant

👍👍 This place is the Cayman equivalent of that really good take-out Teriyaki joint you find in the States. Huge portions of well-prepared meat accompanied by rice and cole slaw. Dinner and enough left over for lunch tomorrow. Yummy. People often mention chicken, good, jerk, rice, meat, pork, beans, Great, great,

Happened by here while exploring. Great food and good prices. Jerk chicken and pork smelled, looked and tasted great. Also attached Biggies BBQ, only on Saturday noon to 4 PM.

Stopped here based on the reviews. So disappointed. There small jerk chicken plate had good portions, but so bland. The chicken was tender but the food had no seasoning. Waste of money I just threw it away.

Hands down, the best food on the island! The rum cakes and cassava cakes are absolutely delicious. Go for the Saturday barbecue. You won’t regret it! And the staff are delightful. What a great place!

This is a step up from a hole in the wall place and features great local food. Yes they have jerk specialists, yes on wonderful BBQ but ask for local Caribbean dishes like Ox Tail to be amazed. The menu varies by day of the week. Very clean with nice outdoor seating. Drop in - you won't be disappointed.

EXTREMELY tasty and wonderfully cooked jerk chicken! The right blend of spices and perfectly tender chicken was falling off the bone and made you want to slap somebody. The red beans and rice was cooked just right, not too dry like a lot of places, but moist and flavorful. Do NOT pass this place up! A definite MUST GO!

We were quite excited to try local fare, and when we spotted Rankins and read the reviews, we went for it. Unfortunately, the food was an overall disappointment. We ordered jerk chicken, BBQ ribs, rice and beans, French fries, coleslaw, and callaloo (like collard greens). Both meat we terribly dry, almost to the point of net being able to be chewed. The coleslaw and rice and beans were utterly flavorless. The French fries and callaloo were edible but not worth coming in for. However, the setting was nice with just outdoor seating, the staff was very friendly and it was clean. While nice, I would not be able to recommend the food here to anyone. Chicken! Chicken! is far better.

Ordered a jerk combo, macaroni salad(incredible), beans and rice very good, coleslaw amazing, veg good, curried fish filet really good! The jerk sauce was tasty, not too hot, the meat did not have a lot of flavor, the pork chewy and not a lot of smoke, the chicken a little dry. Not as good as Jerk Hut BBQ, but the sides were better!! Very clean, service great.

This was the type of food I wanted. Great, cayman style jerk meats. I ordered the jerk pork, and my wife got the chicken. Both were seasoned nicely, the pork was so tender, and minimal bones with the right amount of heat. I got rice and beans and they were seasoned right, the beans were buttery and the rice was cooked perfectly. We both got festival (fried dough dumplings) and they were the good, not the best ever, but good. My wife had the coleslaw, it was creamy, but not gloppy, and her chicken was juicy, seasoned nicely and good portion. They offered vegetarian specials too like curried cauliflower with rice. If you find yourself on this side of the island, have a meal here with so many of the locals.

Hands down best jerk pork & chicken on the entire island, no contest. Great prices, good drink options, lots of parking available. This is where locals go for their after-work dinner takeaway. On Saturdays there is a huge menu available, but the rest of the week has a limited (but completely adequate) offering of jerk pork and chicken, also burgers, chicken tenders, etc. Go out back and they also offer farm produce and butchers as Rankins is a farm.

Since they refurbished, their service has been horrible. They have the daily menu on the glass but you still have to sort your way through a white board on the floor to make an order. The white board is not organized and the meats are located under the heading ‘sides’. The staff had a bad attitude and there is no way my food should be shared like pig slop. The rice and the meat was placed In one side of the plate and two tough plantains tossed on the side. The plate of Oxtail was $14 with no choice of small or large. It was poorly prepared with a bunch of fat on the meat. For $14 you would at least expect the food to be presentable. I got back to work and started eating my food and felt for a drink… sadly I found that my drink was expired since September 6th. Rankin’s is now lacking on customer service, presentation and preparation of the food. Please fix this cause rankin’s used to be really good.

Great jerk chicken! My husband got pork and it was a little fatty. Sides were great. We went back a second time during our one week stay and both got chicken the 2nd time. Very affordable.

Lunch for 2 - curry shrimp with coconut rice and plantains and oxtails with callaloo and plantains was the bomb. Total enjoyment while eating.

We have been visiting the Cayman Islands since 2015 and Rankins Jerk has become our go to from all the places we have tried. Some hole in the wall spots are not the nicest to tourist yet, at Rankins, the service is always great! They are kind and helpful. Now, on to the food… my husband is a jerk chicken lover and the chicken flavor and spice is by far one of the best on the island! The macaroni salad, the red bean rice, oh my goodness!!!! So delicious! If you are staying in Seven Mile, it’s worth the drive!

The food here is the first thing that I've tried when I first came here on 2016 and it is so good and not too expensive.

We ordered two small jerk chicken meals along with fries. Apparently, by 7:00 pm, all of the fries are already gone, so we substituted them for festivals. We both requested dark meat, and were told that wasn’t a problem. We got home, and one meal had mostly dark meat and the other was all white meat. Both were well past their prime with the white meat being dry and crumbly and totally inedible. Since we’ve never had festivals before, we can’t say for sure if they’re supposed to be almost as hard as a rock or not. I’m sure if they were fresh, they would have been good. The jerk seasoning was pretty good once you removed the burnt parts from the dark meat. Overall, more food went into the garbage than we ate. Definitely a waste of time and money.

While tasty, the meat was very dry and they forgot to put the sauces for us. But, I will go back again.
