Amazing decor! You can even buy some cute decorations. Affordable prices! We paid $35 for 2 people. Portions are huge! Staff was okay. They sanitized the table and chairs after every guest. So that’s nice. But the biggest disappointment was a dirty spoon!

The food was ok. Some food was cold. The pancakes were like they made it yesterday and just warmed up. It was weird. Do NOT buy orange juice it was 5.00 a cup not worth it. After paying close to 60.00 if wasn't worth it. I won't be back.

We got two huge portions for $35, complete with coffee and a GIANT biscuit on the side (the berry chicken salad is beautiful and delicious, highly recommend!). Our server Carrie Ann was attentive and sweet, like a kinder, mellower version of Meghan Mullally

The food portions are huge, come hungry. However, the intensity of the flavors is a bit lower than I expected. The taste was good, but not amazing. The burger seemed to be missing some salt or something. The fries were good. Stellar Item: Fried Chicken. We will come again and try other items.

I like this place and the food is great. It would normally get a five star. The reason for my 3 is I came today on my birthday because they advertise specials for your birthday if you sign up for the e-club. After signing up I never got any sort of email. I let waitress know and at first she didn’t even know what the e-club was. Whole reason I came was on my birthday to take advantage of special. I took I’ll the right steps based on advertising to my knowledge but didn’t get to take advantage of the special. Still a great meal but just unfortunate.

On my road trip from Portland, Oregon to Denver, Colorado I stayed my first night in Boise, Idaho. In the morning, when I was ready to head out and thinking about food, I immediately did an online search to find out if there is a Black Bear Diner nearby. Lucky me! Within 4 miles there was a Black Bear Diner, and I was going there for breakfast before I hit the road for Utah. Yum! Every server in the restaurant was so nice, friendly and helpful. One of the ladies took me to a booth way in the back (where I asked to be so it would be warm / away from the door). Bryan (from Jackson Hole, Wyoming) was my server. He was awesome. Carried on some great conversation about Jackson Hole, Hawaii, Kauai, Tahiti (I won a trip to Tahiti on the game show Classic Concentration, and a car)… https://youtu.be/IDBXjaNUiw4?si=ZOEJgGVQ3u7PGKSu I usually get eggs, bacon, hash browns and orange juice for breakfast (that’s my favorite breakfast). But I was feeling inspired by Mikhaila Petersen’s TED Talk… https://youtu.be/0ka9WBEijhk?si=uDm_mmZZboSwbz34 So I tried something new: chicken fried steak. It was SOOOO GOOD!!!! I forgot to ask for the gravy on the side, so it came out poured all over the top of the chicken fried steak. I scraped some off, and left some on. The gravy was DELICIOUS! And so was the chicken fried steak! I chose red potatoes as my side; I like them softer (cooked longer), but they were still good. Really good with the scrambled eggs. I took the side of fruit to go, and a little bit of my breakfast that I didn’t finish. Both became snacks while I was driving (when I got hungry a couple hours later). It doesn’t matter what city I am in, when I stop at Black Bear Diner, I am always greeted by a friendly smile and a comfortable feeling of home. Every road trip (and I take many), I look for Black Bear Diner so I can enjoy a great breakfast. Oh, I almost forgot…the FRESH SQUEEZED orange juice was THE BEST!!!! I drank TWO glasses of orange juice; it was so good. It was probably THE BEST breakfast I’ve had out of all of my visits to Black Bear Diner. Truly. Sincerely. And I really enjoyed the staff. They were all awesome!!! Bryan, Nick, Ella and Stephanie. As I left, my server, Bryan said, “Stop back by again on your way home.” “I will,” I promised. Now I gotta remember which one to go back to… The Black Bear Diner on Entertainment Ave in Boise. I drive the Austin to Portland (where I grew up) route a lot, so I’ve had many visits to Black Bear Diner. Black Bear Diner is one of my favorite breakfast restaurants! Always great food and great people. The only bad thing about my breakfast was the horrible coffee (you might wanna bring your own). Get some better tasting coffee, please, Black Bear Diner. Overall, it was five out of five for sure!!! Outstanding! Last thing…no wifi.

Been eating here for years, love the food and the friendly staff, however our recent visit was a big disappointment. Waited 25 minutes to be seated, even though there were plenty of empty tables. The servers were doing their best to accommodate their customers, but they were vastly outnumbered. I felt they needed more servers, our server left as her three hour shift was over, even though the restaurant was super crowded. Management needs to wake up or they’ll keep losing more business.

Solid diner experience with a fun atmosphere, friendly staff, good-sized portions of tasty food, and bottomless coffee (of course). Iced tea is fresh brewed in-house, and bottomless as well. We had a minimal wait, due to a shortage of staff on the floor and in the kitchen. This is a very fun and welcoming cabinesque atmosphere for the whole family, however the lighting inside was a bit dark. Our server came by frequently to refill our coffees and give us status updates on the kitchen progress. It did take a while for our food to arrive from the kitchen, but most us were not in a hurry on a relaxing Sunday afternoon, and we understood their low staff issues, even though some in our party were mildly grumbling (unless that was their stomachs)!! Some of us even offered to roll up our sleeves and help! Lol Serving portions were huge, and most of us required a to-go container. I enjoyed the beef tips with mashed potatoes, veggies, fruit cups, and corn bread. All were well-prepared, hot, and flavorful. Note that the pancakes are quite large! Never rushed, I felt that we had a delightful experience and would return to try the rest of the menu and see the smiling faces of the stressed staff. 😊

Big diner food. Huge portions. Many options. Friendly staff! Wonderful decor. Nice big clean bathrooms. Fun place to eat casual. Beware. The menu looks like a newspaper. I embarrassed myself by asking for a menu for adults, to my surprise it was already on the table!!! The breakfast all day a great option. Deelish! Pancakes yummi! Real smoked meats. Perfectly cooked eggs with nice runny yolk. Kids loved chocolate milk. I loved that it was made in house and came in a kid compatible cup!

I should have taken pictures but did not think about it till afterward. I ordered the blackened salmon with pesto, loaded baked potato, green beans, and a salad. The salmon was soso, it was smothered with so much pesto on top that is all I could taste. It was like a paste and covered the entire piece of fish and dry. The green beans were good but cold. I received a baked potato with 3 packages of butter on the side and and did not try it because I was missing all of my sides for it. The salad was good and fresh. My husband had the chicken fried steak with mashed potato and gravy. He ordered an extra side of gravy because there was not on the food. They do give large helpings of food to each plate but the food was not very good. My family and friends have eaten there for years and always gave it such good reviews. However, we were very disappointed. The restaurant was dirty. Needed cobwebs removed and dusted really bad. The booth seats are duct taped, and the carpet is worn down to holes in many places. The waitress was very kind and I feel like the staff is trying their best. There were 3 couples that came in after us and were there maybe 5 minutes and left. We overheard 1 couple say it was dirty and overpriced. For 3 adults, we paid 65 bucks without the tip included. Not bad for the amount of food served. At this time, we will not go back to the overland location. We may visit a different location to see if there is any difference in our experience. The picture I have included is from out to go box that we brought home.

We can start with the wait at the front everyone that came in had to wait at leats 10 mins unless you were a regular of course. Then the very confused staff walked us around the restaurant until we got back to the front cause she didn't know what table the waitress was serving. When she asked the waitress what tables she was serving the waitress said she doesn't know later on they went to multiple tables asking if anyone wants extra mashed potatoes we were the 4th table she asked and we gladly said yes. Our 10 month old loves potatoes I'm assuming they made these just for him due to the lack of seasoning. After 40 mins we finally get our food witch my order was wrong but at this point we were just ready to leave. The strange smell of the restaurant the frustration of untrained staff and a burger that might of been hard rubber, hard to tell with how dry and chewy it was, wife had to get fry sauce just to be able to eat half of it. Also not a family friendly restaurant if you have young ones that want to touch stuff the little bear statue on our booth had larges chips in it creating very sharp edges couldn't even hold my child in fear of him getting cut from it.

We have always enjoyed the food at the Black Bear diner, but when we visited today we could tell in every way there was a difference for the better. The staff (host/servers) were friendly, professional, attentive, and the food was EXCELLENT. The manager, Sean, stopped by and visited with our table and I gotta say, what a nice guy!! We look forward to coming back, and thanks for having such wonderful customer service!!

I am a huge country fried steak fan and came here thanks to a tip from a coworker regarding the food. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the food was delicious and the service even better. Rusty was attentive, polite and intuitive while also staying on par with my dry humor and blunt candor. I will be requesting him as my server each of the many times I return to Black Bear!

Black Bear Diner is my FAVORITE place that I used to go to with my mom and dad after church a few years back. This diner has friendly employees, fast service, and delicious food options on their menu. Everything on the menu is great every single time with no mistakes. The cooks know what they’re doing. Bless their hearts for working so hard to cater to locals and visitors alike. I hope they get tipped well!! Anyway if you’re new to Boise, stop by when you’re hungry or looking for a place to relax and just eat good food.

Our server Bryan was very nice! He made sure my coffee was always full. The other server that looks like santa 🎅 was very helpful as well making sure we got taken care of and brought us a high chair. I appreciate the friendliness of the staff. The kids loved the bears everywhere as well as the bear pancake! 🐻 it was nice to come here while waiting for our tires to get installed at Costco.

A wonderful place to get some of the "home cooked country style feel" food that is always a feel good! The ambiance is great and very rustic and gives you the feel of being up in the hills right down in the valley. The last time we went unfortunately was when only one waitress was working (late staff?) So it was slow to get a seat and between orders and you could tell the mood was low. But its understandable! She did great taking care of the whole place! Albeit slow she did her job and kept up! So 5 stars to her for doing double work!

First time there, we had dinner. It was good, not 5 star great but good. It reminds me of good comfort food. Definitely will be back. The manager was great, she was helpful, made us feel, welcome, explained items etc. Dani I think was her name.

We had such a phenomenal experience! Even though they were short on many dinner options they were upfront and apologetic. Luckily my kiddo wanted breakfast for dinner and we all joined him so it wasn't a problem. The waitress was so sweet with my boys and was very attentive to our table. The whole team was speedy, efficient, and lovely. Next time we drive through Boise, we will be sure to stop in here.

Always love Black Bear. Great food, great prices and fantastic service. Carrie Ann was our wait person this visit, what a delight, so friendly and had great suggestions. Only request Black Bear, please bring back the Linguica sausage!

Been a place for us to go every Christmas morning. Around 8am, the place was reasonably empty and the wait staff was friendly and in great spirits. Food was prompt and delicious as always. They likely have a condensed menu for the holidays but has all the good choices. Interior decor is fun and would entertain kids, just in case you have to wait for your table.

My family and I absolutely LOVE this place, the food is always good but the service we get from Carrie-Ann just keeps us coming back. I swear she makes us feel so comfy that we feel like we're enjoying a meal with family, without me having to cook and clean.

Love this place can't say enough. Food is great service is great and plenty enough food on your plate. Weird thing is I've only ever eaten breakfast at this place and they have a great menu for lunch and dinner, just don't think of it other than a breakfast spot. Try it well worth the time and money.

I've been to other Black Bear Diners in other localities; and while I don't usually like to review fairly common places, (let alone ones I've reviewed previously) I just had to wright up this one for the stellar level of service we received! Our waitress was Ace (at least that's what it sounded like she said he name was; hopefully I heard her correctly) and she was easily one of the best servers I've had the pleasure of interacting with. She was friendly, attentive and the perfect compliment to the tasty food this place is known for. High praise goes to the kitchen staff as well, as everything was out quickly, and done correctly. Definitely try the Tri-tip Dip, and get it deluxe, which means it comes with sauteed onions and mushrooms. Then, if you have room, get the bread pudding for dessert. You can thank me later. I get mine with a glass of cold milk, and it is absolutely delicious!
