Thought this place was really cool to walk around and explore . Was cool to think of all the history there . After exploring the main part of this place it leads to trails you can walk to through the woods . Little ponds are the side of you as you walk . Was cool to see the old Joliet Prison in the back ground ofcourse you are not allowed past that fence without permission . Liked exploring all the remnants of the old buildings . I’d watch your steeping while walking through . a lot of nails and uneven surfaces .

The path next to the ruined sites is really well taken care of. So walking, running, and biking is a breeze. But please make sure to stop and take a look at the ruins. There's plenty of info on what happened here and it's worth reading and appreciating the history of Joliet.

TIP - It's ok to start at the north end (.6 miles away). The informational signs are mostly about the workers, not the industrial ruins. Info about the ethnic diversity are AMAZING! The mill was started in the 1870's and the ruins show blast furnace foundations (south) and rolling-mill foundations (north). NOTE how the circles get bigger from south to north. That shows the "technology" improving as they got bigger and better. Fascinating if you like old industrial history!

This was a really nice area. I wish the sign posts told you more about what was there where you are looking when reading them. There is a couple that say but a lot more that give you information about the area and factory at a whole. It is still very cool to go check the area out though. Well worth the stop by if you're in the area.

Free! Awesome trail to explore and learn. Parking lot on site. Picnic pavilion also on site. Paved/stroller friendly trail. It was really cool to see the ruins and read the placards. I recommend this trail for a family friendly thing to do without needing to spend money. It really is a cool trail!

Great trail to explore. Historical markers were good generalized info. Would like to have read more specific info about each of the buildings we looked at, as it was hard to figure out their functions, but overall it was interesting. If you have small children, keep them on the walkway or close by as the ruins can be a safety issue. There is also a fair amount of broken glass from kids partying. Trains went by a few times, which was fun to see and hear. There was a police officer patrolling, but would not go alone as it is isolated. Old jail in the distance. We didn't go any farther than the ruins, which was approximately just over 2 miles there and back.

Interesting historical site. Some of the placards need to be repaired, but well worth a visit. Plenty to explore.

Ruins from a long closed iron plant. The Joliet Iron works closed in 1936,the US Steel Plant across closed in the early 1980's. There is a lot to see in this well maintained city park and it is fascinating. It appeared they hold regular Farmers Market in the parking lot weekly. Located near the Old Joliet Prison, another fascinating location!

This is a very intriguing scenic landmark that is laced with amazing history. It is located along the I&M Canal Trail in Joliet, and it is worth a visit. Admission is always free, and it has a park area with benches and tables, so it would be a great place for a family to have a weekend picnic.

Best historical place to go. They've got placards that tell you about what job life was like man in the day. I prefer the older ones that were a little more honest about the job but these ones are informative also. Great place to go ghost hunting.

Site includes separate trail for hiking or for cycling with a lot of historical content. Great for those who love history or even apocalyptic-style settings. Not recommended for real young children or for people touring alone.

The place feels very unsafe and some Anglo kids verbally offend the Latinos

A very interesting place to explore and learn about the history of Joliet and it's role in America's industrial revolution. The informational graphics located along the walking path through the site provide a great (and sad) insight on how giant businesses achieve their goals through the cost of human lives. After visiting this site, take the time to admire the beautiful industrial bridges of Joliet to honor all the lives and generations of citizens who played a part in creating them.

Great place to see history. The stations have good info and pictures of the past. The one issue is, many things are not identified so you are left with a guess as to what they were.

This is a great place to visit, especially if combined with visits to the Old Jail and the Joliet Area Historical Museum. Some interesting visuals, with explanatory historical facts, but unfortunately they do not relate to the locations on the Iron Works trail, so it's hard to connect the facts with what one sees. That would be a big improvement, to have some explanation of what is seen at each location on the trail.
