Shyam means Prabhu Krishna but Roy is added that's why we can't have true meaning of this temple. Maybe he was worth character of Hinduism history. This temple has blossomed the beauty of Terracotta art and this temple is made of laterite soil and bricks. This temple was built by Malla king approx 500 years ago. If you see the designs of this temple, you will see three gates which are in same size. Can't even imagine that how the length of three are so accurate. Depicted various Hinduism culture. Listened that Baluchari Tant a high quality saree celebrated in the world got inspiration from this terracotta arts& design. One garden is there which is well equipped has made this temple more peaceful. Outside of the temple you will see some shops, selling soil based products. These products are genuine and quality oriented. Price of the products are skyrocketing. So before purchasing do some bargains. Distance from busstand is < 1km.

Iconic temple Not housing the idols currently! They have been taken by the Rajghar for safekeeping! The design for carving is used for making patterns on Baluchari sarees It has five domes and the main structure is that of a bengali house ! The middle dome has islamic influence , the side four are orissa style ! Worth a visit

(Visited in February 2022) - Pancha Ratna Shyam Rai Temple, is hands-down the pinnacle of the temples of Bishnupur. Attributed to Mallabhum rulers, it's a fantastic masterpiece set in Terracotta with intricate carvings on exteriors and pillars. The temple would go on to inspire the later day famous Dhakineswar temple of Kolkata. Loved the experience!

This brick-built Pancharatva class temple is surrounded by a narrow corridor with three-arched porch. The magnificence and profusion of terracotta decorations make the temple unique. The combination of rasamandala and other relevant anecdotes within the circular panels is remarkable, along with elaborate foliage decoration and Krishnalila scenes. Also, the decorative inclusion of social life, mythological anecdotes, various anecdotes from Ramayana and Mahabharata, events related to Saiva and Shakta worship made the temple more admirable. As per the inscription over the main entrance, this jewel-like temple is dedicated to Radhakrishna. The inscription also reveals that Dhirhambir's son Raghunath Singh built this temple in 1643 AD. Entry is 25/- per person in offline. You can also buying online by using QR code which is 20/- per person. If you buy tickets at Rasmancha so you needn't buy ticket again. That ticket is valid for this place also. This place has male & female toilets.

Pancha Ratna Temple at Bishnupur was built in 1643 CE by local ruler Raghunath Singha. Its walls are richly decorated with scenes from life of Lord Krishna. The temple structure is single-storied in the Pancha-ratna style. In this type of temple style the superstructure consists of a large central tower (ratna) and four smaller towers (ratna) at the four corners of the chala.

Lovely architecture. Such intricate work on the body of the temple, portraying different cultures of India. We hired a guide who explained and told us a lot of things which we wouldn't know otherwise. The ticket to the temple is same one you buy for Rasmancha. Temple is opened till 5pm in the evening.

It's sad and good at the same time that the temple has now been cordoned and you can only watch it from a distance as over the years, the intricacies of this masterpiece have been destroyed from people touching the walls. This is another must watch of Bishnupur :))

The temple was built by King Raghunath Singh in 1643, is popularly known as ‘Panch-chura’ temple as it owns five pinnacles. The temple looks beautiful with triple arched passage on its four sides. It is one of the star attractions of Bishnupur because of its breathtaking terracotta art-forms on both interior and exterior panels. are truly representing the terracotta art at its best. Another attraction of this temple is a giant Raschakra that depicts various forms of ‘Radha-Krishna Lila amidst of Gopinis’.

Shyam Rai Temple of Bishnupur, the oldest and best examples of Pancha Ratna Style of architecture. Built in 1643, the Shyam Rai Temple is also one of the earliest temples of Bishnupur. Built by Malla ruler Raghunath Singha, the building is an exquisite example of medieval Bengali art & architecture. Built entirely with clay bricks and clad in burnt clay (terracotta) tiles, Shaym Rai Temple is a marvel both in terms of its design and construction. The roof of the building is of flat curved type – a unique feature of Bengali Architecture. Above the roof rises five beautiful pinnacles, giving the name Pancha Ratna. Like most of the temples in Bishnupur, this temple is also dedicated to Lord Sri Krishna and Sri Radha.

The term Terra-cotta comes from the Italian dictionary meaning “Baked-earth,” ceramic Pottery. It is made out of a fairly coarse, porous type of clay that is high in iron oxides. Terracotta clay is easy to sculpt into various products such as vases, kitchen utensils, tile, planters, sculptures, bricks, etc. This is a temple which is made by terracotta. Those who are interested in the history of ancient and mediaeval India , this is a worthy place to visit, and also to the people who really interested in architecture.

The Pancharatna temple in Bengal is first of its kind. It has statues and flower designs that are very pretty. It has many beautiful terracotta sculptures on its walls and ceilings. These sculptures show Krishna Leela, scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata. The Pancharatna Temple honors Vishnu as Krishna. It is built in the Pancharatna style and may be the oldest Pancharatna-style temple still standing in West Bengal. In Bengali, Panchratna means “five gems.” This is why it has five towers. Must visit this place to glimpse the architectural beauty of our medieval time

Popularly known as Pancha Ratna Temple, Shyam Rai Temple was built by King Raghunath Singha in the year 1643 AD. Like most of the temples in Bishnupur, this is also dedicated to Lord Krishna. Maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, the temple is an example of the Pancha Ratna (Five gems) architecture and is surrounded by a beautiful garden. This is the most profusely carved temple in Bishnupur.

Mallaraja Raghunath Singh built this temple in 1643 AD. For the pleasure of Radha and Krishna, Raja Raghunath Singh, son of Raja Bir Hambir, donated the Navaratna temple in 949 Mallabde or 1843 AD. Shyamraya Temple is a famous terracotta style temple in Bishnupur. The arches around the temple are built on beautiful carved pillars, creating an empty building-like section. On the outer and inner walls of the temple are stories of Raslila, Ramayana and Mahabharata and scenes of various works of art.

A beauty to Behold! A beautifully designed temple with ornate terracotta work inbuilt that will make all tourists gasp in awe. Bishnupur was the capital of the Malla kings in medieval Bengal, and being Vaishnavas they built these wonderful pieces of art. All art lovers go there and enjoy. This places is a few hour's drive from Kolkata.. I went with my family and found out that just one day simply isn't enough to savour these pieces art, as this city is city of art, a city of temples.

This is a 17th-century Radha Krishna temple built by the Malla King Raghunath Simha. This temple probably has the most ornamental decorations all over, with Krishna lila scenes, floral designs, and stories from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Pauranic literature. Shyamrai Temple represents the best terracotta art. The temple and the surrounding gardens are maintained very well by the Archaeological Survey of India. The most impressive temple in Bishnupur. The curved roof is decorated with five Shikhar (towers). The facade is richly decorated with carvings on terracotta friezes depicting everyday scenes, scenes of Krishna playing the flute for the shepherds. Very beautiful temple. You can consider the thread on it for a very long time.
