This temple is an archaeological wonder that you must include in your itinerary while undertaking a trip to Bandel Church & Hoogly Imambara. I was awestruck by looking at the craftsmanship of this temple, which was built way back in the year 1679. It is spread across quite a large area and houses two temples inside the complex. There is a shoe deposit kiosk near the entrance, where you need to deposit your shoes before entering. Toto cars can be hired from outside the Bandel Church to reach here. Usually for Solo Travellers, Totos are not willing to commute at nominal rates & they will always charge you exorbitant fares for reserving the entire Toto. But, if you are patient enough and have a good bargaining skill, they will accommodate you inside the toto with another group, heading towards the temple. Prasad is served near the temple's kitchen area, at a nominal price of ₹35 and the food is really delicious. The ambiance of this temple's complex is supremely pleasant and tranquil, where you can easily sit for hours, without feeling bored. Highly recommended to visit, especially in the winter months.🙏🏻

Beautiful, serene. The architecture of the temple is very different form other Hindu temples of India. This is one of the most important tourist destinations of Hooghly. Maintained well by the authorities. Shooting reels , vlogs etc is banned.

Hamsesvari and Vasudev Temple is a beautiful place with a calm and spiritual atmosphere. The detailed design and craftsmanship show our rich cultural history. Beside there is a Jamindar bari, but unfortunately, closed for public entry. These historical places make the area culturally rich. To make the visit better, it would be helpful to have signs with information about the temple's history. Overall, Hamsesvari Temple is a special place, showcasing our culture and beauty. It's perfect for those wanting a calm and meaningful connection with divinity, and you can also explore Vasudev Temple. Easily accessible as it is well connected by both road and railway(Nearest Rly. station - Bansberia)

🙏🙏 Beautiful and holy temple. It has a long history. This temple is now getting maintained by ASI (ArcheologicalSurvey of India). It has similar structure that we used see at Bishnupur, what we called in bangali as "Terracotta". Ghis temple has been declared as Monuments of National Importance.

The presiding deity of the temple is Hangseswari, a form of Maa adi parashakti jagatjanani dakshina Kali in Hindu mythology. In December 1799, Raja Nrisinhadeb Roy Mahasay laid the foundation stone of this temple. But after completion of the second storey in 1802, the founder died leaving this far-famed temple incomplete. His second wife Rani Sankari completed the rest of the work in1814. The temple is known for its unique ratna architecture. The temple complex has another temple — Ananta Basudeba temple — besides the main temple. Also near is the Swanbhaba Kali temple built by Raja Nrisinha Deb Roy Mahasay in 1788. The Hanseswari temple has a distinctive architecture different from the usual pattern present in this area, consisting 13 minars or Ratnas, each built as a blooming lotus bud. The inner structure of the building resembles human anatomy. It was started by Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy Mahasay and later completed by his widow wife Rani Sankari in 1814. The architecture of the temples is the representation of "Tantrik Satchakrabhed". The structure tells about the structure of a human body, because the five storied temple is like the five parts of the human body, namely, Bajraksha, Ira, Chitrini, Pingala and Sushumna. it is famous for historical site and great terakota work. Both the temples are preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India.

I was literally shocked to see such brilliant architecture in our own state. Most of the time Hanseswari Temple design resembles Russian architecture to me. It was a fabulous place. It was so serene that we ended up spending 1½ hours there. I even liked the overall management of the temple. It was managed very well and seemed pretty clean to me. To get yourself indulge in the prosperity and opulence 'Maa' has to offer, and to witness the brilliant architecture, you need to visit this at least place once.

It is one of the few great temples places left in the state for a family visit. It’s around 2 hrs drive from Kolkata. Under the Archaeological Survey of India, the temple is well maintained, the staff will tell you the history of the place, the people there are courteous, there isn’t any ‘pandas’ who literally extort you for money. The place is calm, serene and the temple itself is unique. Most importantly, unlike most of the functional temple places in the state which are dirty, this temple run place is clean. There is an adjacent temple of Krishna but entry is prohibited there for conservation reasons. There is also a zamindar house opposite the temple; part of it is dilapidated and in another part, the offspring of the zamindars still live there - entry is prohibited there as it’s a private property. Overall, it’s a nice place to be with your family for around 2 hrs if you’re interested in history and archaeology.

The trees, the adjacent terracotta temple(closed), the staircases to relax and sit and the shiv-mandirs(closed), amazing! Bhog probably given from 12(tickets need to be booked beforehand). Anjali(offerings) from 11 am. 1 hr gap time. Pujas can be given. Overall, a great experience.

According to Google, King Narsingh Dev Roy started work on the temple in 1799, 200 years ago, but he died in 1802 while the temple was under construction. His wife Rani Shankari then took over the construction of the temple and completed it in 1814. Thirteen gems and minarets in this temple, each blossoming like a lotus, the sanctum sanctorum of the temple is 60 feet high. Direction - First take the Howrah - Katwa local train to Bansberia Railway station. Tarpor From there take Toto and reach Hanseshwari Temple in 5 minutes.

There is also the Swanbhaba Kali temple nearby built by Raja Nrisinhadeb Roy Mahasay in 1788. The building of the temple started during the reign of King Nrisingha Deb in 1790s, however due to his untimely demise, it was left abandoned for few years. Later between 1810 and 1817, his widow queen Shankari steered the completion of the temple. Many argue that King Nrisingha Deb was an ardent practitioner of Tantric cult which led to such an unusual architectural pattern of a Hindu temple. It has thirteen towers levelled at five different tiers, each tapering to a lotus dome. Others say, it was his queen Shankari, a lady of liberal outlook, who brought in the blend of Russian architecture during the completion phase. There is a stark similarity of this temple with Moscow’s Pokrovsky Cathedral. The governing deity of the temple is Hanseshwari (‘Han’ means Shiva and ‘Saa’ means Shakti), an incarnation of Goddess Kali. Surprisingly, Nrisingha Deb’s mother, a dark complexioned woman of substance, also bore the same name and persona. The idol is painted in blue and is made of neem wood, in contrary to metallic casting prevalent in that era. The temple houses a beautiful landscaped garden and an old terracotta temple dedicated to Ananta Basudev, a form of Lord Vishnu. Even today, regular prayers are offered to both the deities and animal sacrifices are performed daily. The ruins of royal residence of the Dutta’s still exist behind the temple complex. The temple will leave in you awe because of the detailing of the architecture.

Lovely lovely place to visit...it's just awesome experience to be there...best time to visit the place is in the morning... every time you go there you'll find inner peace...and another thing which will fascinate you is the kind of architecture the temple has...if you have a very little interest or sense in this field ... you'll surely get amazed by the mixture of architecture of different cultures, of different religions...and last but not the least... there's another 'terracotta' temple of Lord Vishnu...you are going to fall in love with the subtle work of art on the walls of that 'terracotta' temple...

This place is nearly 70KM from Kolkata. We visited this place on Sunday afternoon around 1PM. There were less crowd. By the time we reached the place the temple was closed. There is ample space for two wheeler parking but I feel less space for four wheeler parking. They charge 10₹ for two wheeler parking inside their premises. Ladies and gents washroom is also there.

Hangseshwari Temple is situated in a small town Bansberia in Hooghly district, West Bengal. Local zamindar Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy started building the temple. But due to his death, the temple was not built within his lifetime. Later on his second wife Rani Sankari completed it. The temple has a unique architecture of Ratna style. The temple is 5 storied and consists of 13 Lotus bud shaped Ratnas or Minars. The temple complex has a Ananta Basudeva temple beside the main temple. This temple has beautiful terracotta works though many of them has been disfigured by weather or human miscreants. Many people come here to show their devotion. If you want to offer Puja, you may want to avoid public holidays because there is always a long line of devotees. If you want to get Bhog Prasad you have to pay a nominal fee of Rs. 50/- per person as of 1st January 2024. Be sure to buy the Bhog Prasad coupon before 10 am. To reach here, you will have to reach Bansberia station through Howrah Katwa or Sealdah Katwa local. From here you have to take Toto ride to the temple which costs Rs. 10/- per person.

You can purchase offerings, flowers, etc from nearby stalls of the temple. You can also bring it from outside not a big issue. Parking also available, Rs. 20/- for 4 wheeler. And 10/- for 2 wheeler. Just so you know they are open now, in the pandemic environment. They are though not allowing sitting in the temple premises.

Hanseshwari Temple, is situated in Bansberia, near the Ganges river. It's a age old structure. There are mainly two temples. One made long back and had a teracotta touch to it. It looks beautiful. And another one built afterwards which has a touch of modern architecture and somewhere a feel of gothic architecture. Besides the main idol, there are many "Shiv lings" which are also worshipped daily. The entrance road toward the temple is well built and well maintained. At very first you will see a huge gate, which is the original entrance to the "Raj-Bari". The descendants of the royal family still stays there, and the area is well maintained. There is a durga mandap, where every year Durga puja is held. Seems the main durga mandap has be demolished with time. But a new mandap has been built. The iron gates of the buildings are still intact. And the temple authorities has setup parking spaces for bikes and even you can keep your shoes safe with them, as you need to leave your shoes outside before entering the temple. So for a ancient architecture lover and history lover has make a one day trip to here. And can also enjoy the beauty of Ganges nearby.

The Itachuna Rajbari was built by the ancestors of Shri Safallya Narayan Kundu in 1766. Centuries-old 'rajbaris' or palaces of West Bengal are objects of absolute intrigue and fascination. The Kundu family-owned Itachuan Rajbari, rich in heritage and history, is one such opulent structure in the Hoogly district. Maintained by archeological survey of India .

One of the most beautiful, mysterious, architecturally unique temples in west Bengal which shows the prominent footprints of Bengal History. The temple is situated at Bansbaria, Hooghly and can be reached by train, bus or car. The nearest rail station is Bansbaria which falls in the Howrah- Katwa line. The next nearest station is Adisaptagram which falls in the Howrah- Burdwan line. It can also be reached from Bandel station or Chinsurah by auto. The same is very well connected to kalyani by the Iswar Gupta Setu and Barrackpore Kalyani expressway. The temple is situated not very far from the Ganges. The main temple is of the Goddess Kali ( Ma Hanseswari) who used to be a queen of the ancient Jamindar Dynasty. The main temple is made of stone and has a unique structure with a wide yard in front of the same. Adjacent to is situated the famous Ananta Vasudev temple which is the mark of ancient 'Terracotta' (baked soil) architecture. There is a beautiful garden around the temple which is loved by everyone specially the children. There is an arrangement of Prasad bhog which needs to be discussed beforehand with the temple authority. There is a good arrangement for parking, washrooms and foods. This temple is a must visit for everyone who loves history and sound architectural values. It is a one stop destination of peace and ultimate serenity.

Built by Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy and his wife Sankari Devi, this temple got the name and fame of 'Hindu Ratna'. The Ananta Basudev temple, just adjacent to this temple is also embellished with its 19th century terracotta work. The temple yard is very clean and peaceful, open to all devotees from 8-11Am and 3-7pm everyday.

Love to explore the unknown or little known places?? Then it's the spot for you... It's neem wood idol of the kali daity, standing on one leg on shiva, blooming lotus shaped 13 towers carried a lot of history. It also has very shallow well in front of the maa' s temple. Once that well used to get poured by ganga water by itself. And in the same complex there is Ananta Basudev temple. It's intricate terracota work that depicts stories of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, and Shree Krishna. The temple, it's Ananta Basudev's temple has very rich history. Current it is under ASI. It's also surrounded by beautiful greenery that will surely give you the opportunity to breathe some fresh air amidst the pollution of urban areas. If you are interested for Puja... The time is 12:00-12:30... If you want to have maa er vog, then it will cost only 40/- per head...

This is a Hindu Temple of goddess Hangseswari in the town of Bansberia at Hooghly District, West Bengal. Bansberia is an industrial town. Rani Hanseswari was the mother of Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy, hence the deity is worshipped as Maa Hanseswari. The temple complex has another temple  Ananta Basudeba temple  besides the main temple. Also near is the Swanbhaba Kali temple.  The Hanseswari temple has a distinctive architecture different from the usual pattern present in this area, consisting 13 minars or Ratnas, each built as a blooming lotus bud. The inner structure of the building resembles human anatomy. The architecture of the temples is the representation of "Tantrik Satchakrabhed".The structure tells about the structure of a Human Body. Because the five storied temple is like the five parts of our Human body,

An excellent art form of architecture, where "Maa Hongsheshwari" lives. This is the one and only heritage that has this architectural formation. This Mandir is situated with "Ananta Basudeb Mandir" an wonderful example of Bengal's architectural form "TerraKota". These two temple and a "Rajbari" of Raja is surrounded with a lake. This wonderful place has flavour of old Bengal. A beautiful and spiritual place for devotees, also for those who love old architectures and art works.

The prime attraction of Bansberia embedded with historical legacy. Brilliant architecture of the main mandir and work of Terracotta on the walls of adjacent Vasudev Mandir, though not properly maintained by Archiological Dept. There is Bhulbhulaiya on the upper stories of the Mandir, though not popularly known or explored by the tourists. There is a novel by Narayan Sanyal on the Mandir, based on the history. Fabulously written by the Great writer. Worth reading to know Hamseswari better.

Sudden plan to visit Hangseshwari temple was so worth it! How I went- Got on a magic van from Kalyani station, and asked the driver to drop me near Hangseshwari. He dropped me at a stoppage. Afterwards, I had to walk for some 5-10min to reach the temple. Hangseshwari temple was built by raja Nrisimhadeb Roy Mahasay, after his mother Hangseshwari Devi. The diety is maa Kali. The architecture is very mesmerizing. It has touches of so many styles of architecture. I was so impressed seeing it. There is an Ananta Basudev temple nearby. Thr atmosphere is very serene. The rajbari and the remains of the rajbari entry gate is just nearby.

Very nice temple. The place is also good. Road connectivity is very good. I must say, it is well maintained. "Bolidaan Pratha" is not there now. You can have "Prasaad" if you want. It costs Rs.50 per packet. After covid they have introduced packet system. Earlier there was sit and eat system with temple persons serving. Now you can open the packet and eat there. If you want, you can take it to your home also. Prosaad ticket closed between 10:30-11AM depending upon the rush. One hour is enough. There is not much to do except puja.
