An absolute nightmare. Booked two rooms. The property is great but service provided is horrendous. We had faced atleast 5-6 power failures in 1 night, food is okay-ish. Surprised to see the laid back attitude of staff (1 cheeky staff is all they got to manage all the guests) and particularly disgusted by the rude and nagging behaviour of security guard. The lady in charge of running the business is mostly unavailable (none at the reception). It is okay to charge a visitor as long as proper service is provided. The owner (a supposed painter), knows to mint money from unsuspecting tourists. Double check with the manager of the amenities and pros and cons before booking.

I was hesitant about writing this, but then I thought that some facts should also be known to people who are planning for a visit. Accommodation is good. The specious suits can easily accommodate 4-6 persons. Double bed rooms are also good. Bathrooms are large. Overall comfortable. Food is good, if you like simple home style Bengali food. People are also courteous in general. The premises itself is full of trees, and quite attractive. Now, why I am not giving a high rating. (a) We visited there in December (team of eight persons). The blankets and bed sheets were not clean, and they changed those in late evening. (b) The approach rod is very narrow. Only one car / auto rickshaw can go at a time. This is a problem if someone visits there with own car. I had to wait a long time for a bullock cart. (c) Parking is a problem. They can accommodate only 3-4 cars at the most. (d) Now, coming to the point, which actually annoyed me. On the second day, a few of us ordered alu paratha in the breakfast. That was OK. On the same evening, I decided to take something light for my dinner. So, instead of taking other items like fish/chicken, etc., I ordered the famous Bengali dish, boiled rice with boiled potato and boiled dal. When it was served, I noted that it was not simple boiled potato. It appeared that they mixed some spices and made it like 'alu chokha'. When I tried a spoonful of that 'chokha', I felt that it was the same stuffing that was used for making alu paratha the same morning. That means, they were serving the old food, and not the fresh one. But I did not have any problem with that, because we do it at our home also, and it was a 'home' stay. The problem was that, this 'chokha' was completely rotten, stale. And they served it without any hesitation. They actually try to manage the show at a low cost, though Garden Bungalow is not a very cheap option.. So, be careful.

Awesome place for pre-wedding photoshoot. An unique place with vintage combination of rich village culture alongside royal structured building.

There should be the option to give zero star. Worst experience so far . Staff behaviour is the worst. They do not have antiqute to talk , their behaviour is too rough. They don't know how to behave with guests. There are other better places to visit, I will not suggest to visit here.

This is our second trip to this property and it is so beautiful that i am not going to make repetitive comments about its beauty & nature. I am mainly trying to draw the attention of the owners to the areas they need to improve urgently. First, the kitchen. The cook is good but there is only one so quick and prompt service is not available. The staffs are not well trained enough to understand the guest's needs. Wrong food is served to wrong guest without confirming. Secondly, normal RO water is not supplied to the rooms. I booked all 4 rooms in the main building with 12 guests. But not a single bottle of r o water was available anywhere in the visibility. There was a 25ltr water drum present in the lobby though which was always empty. Every time we need to ask for a glass of water. Thirdly, the security. This is a big issue if you book the white building entirely. The main door doesn't lock. It is always open, even at the night. Fourthly, even if you book the white property fully, you are not entitled to use the lobby. We cannot take out chairs from the rooms to sit together in the lobby. And another thing, please replace your couch opposite to the biggest mirror, it is broken. The furniture placed above it, is also dangerous for whoever uses this couch.

Worst experience ever, staff behaviour is too bad , rough, and aggressive ,they do not have simple etiquette how to talk to guests. Security person behaviour is too bad, receptionist behaviour is the worst I will not recommend this place . There are other far better places to shoot.

I visited The Garden Bungalow in May end 2022 with my parents (both 70+). Going by the look of the building and premises on the website we were impressed and booked it. We had booked the Bahaar Hall room upstairs. Mind you, the lady at the desk (Ananya) had clearly mentioned that all the rooms are exactly the same except - the upstairs rooms have a balcony and has one running room unlike the downstairs ones which have two rooms in one block - which is why, there is a difference of around Rs 500 between upstairs and downstairs rooms. On the first day we reached there, we found the premises beautiful, amidst a sprawling well-maintained garden, the room as described on the site - huge, great furniture, nice bathroom. After freshening up, we enjoyed the lunch as per our taste. The winding wooden staircase up to the first floor is a little scary for senior citizens and my father had a hernia issue plus my mom is a heart patient. My father was feeing unwell the next morning so I requested for a room downstairs, if available. The lady initially refused but considering the situation, requested the other guests if they could swap the rooms - mind you, I agreed to shift downstairs at the same rate as upstairs room (Rs 500 extra), which I had already paid. Ultimately she managed to swap the room in the afternoon. We had given her the keys to clean the rooms and shift our luggage to teh ground floor room and we had gone out. After we came back and entered the newly assigned room downstairs, we were shocked to see it nowhere near to the upstairs room. The walls were dampened, blankets torn, dirty pillow, no glasses, noisy fan, furniture not like the ones upstairs, - overall quite disappointing, we felt claustrophobic. Uneasily though, I requested for the room upstairs again as we did not feel right downstairs. Now, for obvious reasons, they denied requesting back to the same guests - which is totally acceptable. However, she promised to get us back the original room the next day after the guests checked out. Finally we got our upstairs room back. Now, coming to the services, Appreciable areas: 1. Beautiful premises and garden and balcony 2. Beautiful white house building - great for taking pictures - they earn a lot through letting out for pre-wedding photo shoots. 3. Security dada (Basu da) and the Maasi (Dolon) who did the dishes and served tea deserve special mention. The former had a striking knowledge of Tagore's cultural activities and has been himself involved in it for long - it is lovely to engage in meaningful conversations with him. The latter carries a wonderfully charming personality - soft and self-restrained, she made some awesome tea. 4. The everyday service provider is not the most perfect one in the world but has a heart of truth. He is an honest kid trying to do his best as much as he can. Improvement Areas: 1. Breakfast is supposed to start at 8 AM as per the hotel schedule stuck up in each room. But nobody is anywhere near the dining hall until 8:30 AM. So you get your breakfast not before 8:45 - 9:00 AM. 2. The food is good but can be improved. On the day before we left, we had planned to have early dinner outside and hence cancelled hotel dinner request in the afternoon itself. However, we could not get anything to eat outside and requested for a simple dal and rice at night after 8 PM. They refused to serve dinner as we had already cancelled it earlier & they did not have any ingredients to cook. As a result, we ordered food from Arhani - a nearby home takeaway who usually takes orders a day before. 3. The hotel does not have any vehicle (car) to rent out so it is difficult if you plan to go for a long trip and don't have a car of your own. 4. Although there is a lot of super expensive furniture, accessories, and stuff around - not a single iota speaks of Rabindra bhabona. 5. The helpdesk does not have much knowledge about nearby sightseeing attractions or shopping options 6. The helpdesk lady talks a lot about the family of the owner but again, low knowledge of what Santiniketan is famous for.

The Garden Bungalow owns my heart and soul. This is the only hotel I stay while visiting Bolpur which is quite often I must say. The standard rooms are my favourites. Though the main building gives you a different vibe of royalty.

The Garden Bungalow is a beautiful property with huge and charmingly furnished rooms. The furniture is largely antique. There is a big, beautifully maintained garden which recalls the Shantiniketan of the past when there was space to walk, breathe the fresh air and wake up to birdsong and glorious sunrises. The food is unpretentious but tasty. The service is extremely polite and obliging. Don't expect the polish of posh hotels, but enjoy the warmth of friendly service. I had many questions about unusual destinations, and they always made it a point to find out the correct information. Ananya who manages the everyday running of the hotel is very capable while being friendly and forthcoming.

The rooms are very good, spacious and aesthetically decorated. The infrastructure is also decent. Only issue is the location which is deep inside a colony with tiny roads. The service is poor to be honest. For the price you pay it is not worth it. Also the food is not tasty at all.

Horrible Horrible Horrible... When we first stepped in, we could find no one to talk to. We called the number and they said there will be someone checking us in. After waiting for almost 45mins, a person came and started checking in other people who came much later than us. When we asked for the reason, he started being abusive and quarelled to the best of his ability. We were tired and asked if we could at least have lunch while they check us in, they said that time for ordering lunch was over and no food will be available. So we requested them if we can at least keep ours bags and get lunch elsewhere. They took some more time and somehow finally check in was done after much chaos. There was no water in the washroom when we checked in. They said that they have switched on the pump and we will have water later. We went for lunch outside and came back after sometime. Thankfully water problem was resolved. I told them that by what time we need to order dinner? They said 6pm. So we ordered dinner beforehand. The night went however peaceful and the rooms were spacious but for any need it is hard to find any person to attend you. In the morning (at around 8am) they informed that there will be no breakfast as we did not inform earlier. Only tea would be available that too without any biscuits. We again had to set out and get breakfast from outside and come back. We got ready and left this horrible place. The Bungalow is undoubtedly beautiful but the customer service is such as if they are doing you a favour by letting you in. They mainly make money from photoshoots and hardly care about family/group/individual travellers. There are many beautiful resorts around, stay away from this one. Their apathy towards their guests' requirements is appalling!!!!

Poor service, not many options in breakfast lunch and dinner. It's a bit costlier. But the rooms on the 1st floor are very spacious. More or less I would give average, needs more improvement in service.

Guest service is pathetic and actually non-existent. This will look like a haunted house, as you'll find nobody around you to serve the guests. The guy who's the only one person for service in the entire property, doesn't know how to behave and how to handle guests. Only positive thing is the rooms are good. Check-in, check-out process is pathetic. During the summer, one ceiling fan in the Bahar Hall was not working, we complained this on Saturday noon at around 2 PM. That was not fixed when we checked out on the next day, so you can understand. Now comes another pathetic part - they don't have any minimum breakfast arrangements for the guests, like poori - sabji, or breads. They will simply say No to you. So if you at all plan to visit there, please plan for your breakfast at some outside restaurants. This property is only interested for shooting parties or pre-wedding photography parties. They have no intention to serve the guests. At Bolpur there are lots of good hotels. Please don't waste your time and money here. Avoid this.

This hotel doesn't like kids...they don't allow kids to play n run on the fields except the roads. Room service is pathetic rather better to say they don't have any. For a guest it is more like staying in "dharamsala" not in a paid hotel. Ambience is very nice, plants and trees are the bonus. If you are travelling with elderly person (around 80),still they will not allow food to be served in the room on a cold or rainy night.

Loved it!! Awesome and wonderful experience. Will have the feeling of Rajbaris or Zamindar Baris of the 18th century or the vintage times. For sure! Will love the place for sure if you love old architecture and living style like me. It gives you a free entry into the lap of nature, where you can hear the beautiful chirping of birds, rustling of trees, fragnant breeze mixed with the beautiful atmosphere of Santiniketan.

Huge property with 3 buildings will give a Rajbari or Zamindar Bari feeling of the 18th century. Two of the houses are for guests and one is used for day trips - mostly we saw couple pre-wedding photoshoots. The rooms are huge and clean. We had booked the Baahar hall in 1st floor and it was huge with all sides open and had balcony. Location is not bad, if you have private car then it will not be an issue. The drawbacks of the place are the service and the food, they serve bread and butter in complimentary breakfast. My suggestion is do not opt for lunch or dinner here. And for the service - there is hardly any room service.

The most unprofessional peoples I have encountered as of now. They do not have etiquette to behave. Security staff don't have manners. Receptionist is the most corrupt. There are far better places to stay. My suggestion would be to avoid such places where they don't know how to treat their guest.

Excellent place for a relaxed stay. Serene environment with lush greenery. Rooms are huge, with a feel of antique ambience. Service of the staff is also commendable.

The best one to stay in Shantiniketan. The environment is tooooo goood to stay. Calm, soothing and close to the nature...... Those who want a peaceful weekend come and enjoy ur stay here. Staff are so courteous even the locals who are there to assist are so nice. Food was excellent, it was not too spicy nor too bland. Perfect for a holiday.

Had a wonderful stay here in Feb 2021. Everything about this place has a captivating old world charm. The property grounds are dotted with fruit bearing trees and the bloom of Bougainvilleas when I had visited just stole my heart. If you want to wake up to serene mornings with chirping birds for company, head to this place. The only disappointment was the food. Breakfast is nothing to write home about and the one dinner we ordered was inedible. So please plan your meals outside accordingly. Leaving that aside, trust me when I say this place SCREAMS tranquility 😇

The place is serene and calm. The property is beautiful. It is built on 2 acre land and have antique prosthetics. Perfect place for couple to enjoy their weekend. There is a little lack of food service but the kindness and the gentleness of the staff will make up to you. Will recommend.

We loved the Garden Bungalow - the location can't be beat! We had a spacious room for 4 with beautiful views and wonderful service and hospitality from the staff. Our room had all of the conveniences we could hope for and my daughter loved the breakfast service every day! We will definitely plan a return stay on our next visit!

The Garden Bungalow is a really Nice Place in shantiniketan. Quiet, Serene, Away from the Hustle and Bustle of the Main Road, This bungalow went beyond my expectations when I had booked this property. The Rooms were very Clean and well kept. The food was also very Good and Tasty. The Breakfast spread was also Pretty Good. All in all, a very Good Experience.

The place is exactly as its previous pics and reviews describe it to be...located 5.4 km from the main town in the midst of a village and 10 min distance from the Sonajhuri haat across the forest woods, it gives you the exact feels of the life away from hustle & bustle of Kolkata which you are aspiring for. Do try to plan your stay keeping Saturday as one of the days in between so that you can visit the Sonajhuri Haat and listen to the enchanting songs of the Baauls and feel mesmerized by the sheer beauty of it. The staff is filled with hospitality, the food is excellent and value for money and the rooms have a rustic feel to them all throughout. Overall the best place to stay in Bolpur Shantiniketan for a quiet weekend.

Calm and peaceful place it is. It feels very nice to embrace the nature so close. Service is also very good, they always take care of their guests. But the room we got was average and bed cleanliness is also not upto the mark. The room doesn't have lock-and-key type locking facility so I felt a bit insecure, but that is my opinion. Overall it's worth staying here.

Such a beautiful hotel... running in short of words to explain its beauty....got the whole essence of shantiniketan ....peaceful stay...food was very affordable and tasty... beautiful experience...heritage rooms are perfect for this experience....staff was also very cooperative

Never opt for lunch or dinner as the rates are high and the food quality is not worth the price. They served us lunch at 3.00 pm so of course no sense of time. The WI-FI service was available for only one day. The TV was not working due to non recharge of TATA SKY. There were earth worms in bathroom!

It was out and out an amazing experience. The property is just mind-blowing. All the staffs are eager to help and will go out of their way to put a smile on your face. Would love to come back once again!

Nice place. Nice and simple staff. Needs better maintenance. Mattress in one of our rooms (standard room) was too hard. Liked the garden around.

  • 4/5 Pritisha D. 1 year ago on Google
It was a nice stay. People can spend some peaceful time from their regular hectic schedule. Food is good but Verity is less. I asked for a thermometer but they don't have any first-aid which is not at all expected. Well if you are going with your family or anyone who is medically not fit need to think twice as there is no store nearby. To purchase every single thing you need to visit market which is quite far from the venue. But for nature lover this place is like a heaven. You can see variety of trees and all are maintained Welly.

  • 5/5 DEBAYAN R. 2 years ago on Google
Pleasant stay and homely feel. Great and polite staff. Spacious rooms. Poetic retreat and king's chamber can accommodate 4 people easily, each. They are on ground floor of the main building. Greenery all around and the place feels like you are seating in the lap of nature. Food quality could have been better- tough it depends on individual's taste. Worth staying. All thumbs up!!
