Recently
bought
Valspar
paint
at
the
store
-
took
advice
on
which
type
to
buy
for
painting
wood
shelving
unit.
Spent
more
money
than
would
normally
for
a
good
quality,
long
lasting
paint
finish
-
Valspar
paint
was
nearly
the
same
price
as
Farrow
&
Ball.
After
applying
professional
white
undercoat
on
the
shelves
we
applied
the
Valspar
(La
Vida).
It
was
extremely
thin
and
translucent.
It
had
been
stirred
well
prior
to
application.
It
took
5
coats
(of
expensive
'high
quality'
paint)
to
even
out
the
patchy
appearance.
My
husband
is
a
professional
painter
and
decorator
and
said
he
has
never
had
to
apply
5
coats
of
paint
before.
We
assumed
it
had
been
mixed
in
the
wrong
ratios
-
not
enough
pigment.
Took
the
tin
back
to
B&Q
where
the
staff
member
was
very
helpful
and
agreed
this
wasn't
normal.
He
called
the
Manager
for
us.
The
Manager
took
a
sample
of
the
paint
from
the
tin
to
assess
and
compared
it
with
another
of
the
same.
He
said
it
had
been
mixed
correctly.
I
asked
if
he
thought
it
was
normal
to
need
5
coats
of
Valspar
to
cover.
He
agreed
it
wasn't,
but
said
he
hasn't
had
any
problems
before.
I
suggested
that
maybe
the
mixing
machine
had
the
incorrect
quantities
of
pigment
programmed
in.
He
looked
at
some
details
and
confirmed
it
was
as
it
should
be.
I
explained
that
we
had
bought
a
more
expensive
paint,
upon
their
recommendation,
because
it
was
advertised
as
being
very
good
quality
with
a
professional
finish.
He
said
that
he
was
unable
to
do
anything
about
it
because
it
wasn't
their
paint.
I
pointed
out
that
it
was
B&Q
who
sold
me
the
paint,
it
was
they
who
were
representing
Valspar
by
selling
their
products
in
store
and
it
was
therefore
their
responsibility
to
their
customers
to
put
things
right.
He
refused
to
accept
this,
albeit
not
looking
very
convinced
himself,
and
simply
handed
me
a
Valspar
promotion
leaflet
and
told
me
that
I
would
have
to
buy
a
second
tin
of
the
same
paint
and
then
claim
a
refund
from
Valspar.
I
was
stunned.
I
asked
him
why
I
would
spent
more
money
on
a
paint
that
was
no
good
and
that
I
didn't
want?
He
shrugged
and
said
that
was
my
only
option.
So,
in
a
nutshell,
I
bought
paint
at
B&Q,
it
didn't
do
what
it
was
supposed
to
do,
B&Q
accept
no
responsibility
for
the
faulty
product,
and
I
have
to
spend
double
the
amount
of
money
on
this
paint
and
then
take
responsibility
myself
for
trying
to
claim
a
refund
from
Valspar.
I'm
utterly
bemused.
Aside
from
there
being
absolutely
no
logic
to
this,
I
feel
totally
let
down
by
B&Q
who
have
denied
me
my
customer
rights
and
washed
their
hands
of
any
responsibility.
