Fun to see all the history in the area. Plan on tipping guides that explain the area. Guides are not needed to just look. Read Wikipedia about all the locations before you go.

Santo Domingo, that is the capital's most important tourist attraction and a unique region smelling great history. Especially if you are interested in the Columbus era, it will impress you a lot. Definitely a must see spot.

Rich in culture, art; and, history. The Colonial Zone is the site of the first hospital, school and cathedral in the Americas. No admission.

If you are dark skin be prepared to be racially profiled by immigration authorities. They may think you are an illegal immigrant from Haiti.

My favorite place to hangout with my friends, eat, dance, drink, walk, enjoy the night. A place that you can walk at 1am without having trouble. Better if you go on Saturdays. I love all the restaurants and also Parada 77 and Bio bar. To enjoy live music I recommend 100% Jalao Dominican restaurant.
