Visiting the 27 waterfalls is the absolute best thing you can do at the northern coast of DR. First, I would like to present 3 facts in order not to be disappointed: 1. Word "waterfall" is not that appropriate - it's rather a small falling stream - do not expect Niagara or something like that, 2. It is unlikely you'll visit all 27 - they say there's not enough water - true or not I don't know, but even 7 we visited was quite enough, 3. Do the tour on your own - you save a lot of money and do it when and as long you want which I explain further down. 27 falls are some 30-40 min drive southwest of Puerto Plata. Road is good, well signed (direction Santiago de los Caballeros) and only the last mile when you exit the main road is not paved. Parking on spot is free. Entry fee is around 20 $ pp, including life vest, helmet and guides. On tours from Puerto Plata you'll be charged 50$+ with numerous stopping at places selling souvenir stuff. Groups are around 15 people. There're lockers to rent (1-2 $) to store your belongings. Water shoes are extra, around 1-2 $, cannot remember exactly, but don't even think not taking them (except you have your own). We visited only 7 falls, but was enough for us - in total the tour lasts 2-2,5 hours. First 30-40 min is a forest climb uphill, easy to medium, after which the adventure starts. You can opt for jumping down in natural pools or descending via ladder if you're afraid. Only two are pretty high - 5 to 8 meters, others are small or there's a natural rock slide down. Water is cooler, but you get shortly used to it. CAMERA TIP: decline the official professional photo offer at the ticket booth as it is pricey. Instead, give your phone to your guide. All the guides are super friendly and funny, and they'll make great photos for you (waterproof camera pocket recommended) - see my pics. Of course, don't forget to tip them.

The waterfalls are really cool. Our teens loved this adventure. It costs $10 US or 500 DR Pesos per person for a guided tour of the falls. (Way more $$ if you do a cruise ship excursion) That price includes the life vest and helmet. We paid an extra $2 US to rent shoes. They also have a zip line and buffet that are separate. Good bathrooms, showers were available. The guides knew enough English to explain the waterfalls, but a little Spanish is very helpful. There is a restaurant and buffet at the visitor centers

Awesome experience and extremely beautiful no doubt! Highly recommend! It’s a ton of fun. Few pieces of insight/advice as of 7/24/21 1. Not all 27 falls are going. Not enough water. Falls 1-12 is still perfect though. 2. Get there early. We arrived at 8:15 and were one of the first groups to go. Didn’t run into any other groups on the way down. We finished about 11:15 and as we were walking back we walked past tons of other people that were headed up and it was packed at the bottom with people still waiting to go. 3. Being water shoes or you’ll have to rent them there. They are definitely needed. 4. Tip your guide. 5. Have fun and enjoy. @nothin_but_views

We took this excursion off of a Carnival Cruise. This excursion was worth the trek to get there. The walk to the falls is strenuous. The trail is uneven and rugged. Once you overcome the journey up the experience is worth the effort. The staff provides safety equipment and safety instructions before and during the excursion. We had a blast! It is an awesome experience. There were opportunities to jump into the pools of water or take a different route. The slides were a lot of fun. The staff videotapes your experience and is available for purchase at the end of the excursion. We would do this excursion again.

Things I wish I knew before I came here: 1. There are only 12 opened waterfalls. There is not enough water so the other 13-27 dried up! 2. It's a 30 min hike to the top of the mountain before you can go down the waterfalls. 3. It costs 550 DOP to go see the waterfalls and since it's a national park, a tour guide is required. 4. Closed toe shoes are required, if you don't have any they make you rent them for 100 DOP, lockers are also extra and a small one is $2 5. If you go in the morning there are less people but it's really cold, and if you go during the day it is warmer but there is a line. Total time for this excursion is 2.5 hours

We went to 12 waterfalls this past weekend since those were the ones open that day. It was 500 pesos per person and that came with a guide for our group as well as a life jacket and helmet everyone has to wear around the rocks and water. We had fun and got some great pics! It was about a 30 minute hike, partly wood stairs, and then you go through pretty moutain streams. The first jump is about 22 ft off the ground. You can take stairs down if you dont want to jump. The next one i was told was about 12 ft. Then there are several small slides where the stream flows that you can also go around on stairs usually. You can pay $45 for someone to go with you to take pics and video with a go pro, but our guide did that already which was nice. You can ask them to gake pics/video if they dont already. Also make sure you tip your guide at the end! If you dont want to jump and slide into the mountain pools, you can do zip lines for $45. You can rent rubber shoes (100 pesos) which my dad said had surprisingly decent grip on the rocks and lockers if you need. One guy went through the tour with slides and said to tell people not to do that, it was bad. You want good shoes that you can walk through water over big rocks with. Some spots of course are slippery. Some places you have to swim through. The buffet is typical dominican food. I cant rate it because I didn't eat there. Water bottles were 30 pesos. We went on a saturday and although google said they were closed they were actually open till 3. You can get a caribe tour bus to imbert and then a taxi to the falls which arent too far from that bus stop. It was definitely worth the trip! We're glad we went!

Huge shout out to our guide CHARLY & OMEGA! We had an amazing time with our group. They were able to manage a group of 12-15. Suggest you bring water for the hike, water shoes, and comfortable clothing. Price was moderate, about $70 per person for hike, waterfall jumps and natural slides, zip lining, Dominican buffet food(white rice, beans, green salad, fried chicken, veggies, etc) and ATV rides. AND our guides took pictures of us. 💯

The waterfalls and traveling between them are so beautiful! Unfortunately I cannot rate perfect because of the situation. I booked a tour on a cruise ship - the description was “40 minute hike” and “ not for faint of heart”. Since I am not faint of heart & I’ve hiked 40 minutes, no biggie. Ha! About 20 minutes uphill then 20 minutes downhill (very steep) with a LOT of stairs was really rough. Of course the water felt great but based on the description we were expecting maybe a big pond with waterfalls to play in. I enjoyed the experience but being out of shape, wished there had been a better description. So absolutely beautiful though!

We had a lot of fun in doing this, the guides all make strange noises, some like birds which is cool but ours made baby noises which were just annoying to be honest, the hike up was good but then comes to a dead stop and you wait for a good 30-40 mins to actually get into the water which you can do by jumping of or climbing down a ladder, then you feel like cattle being hearded the rest of the way but it was still super fun once in the water, you slide down rocks faces and jump of platforms. It was cool to experience once.

It’s a must go! They also have Zip Lines and UTVs (Off Road driving) available. WARNING! If you’re looking to save money, DO NOT book online or at your resort. Booking from Resorts or Online charges extra and up to triple the value. Book directly at this location (cash only). Also recommend call the place to check availability or if the weather is permitting. Google maps gave me no issues finding the location and parking. The reception area has been renovated and it looks like business is good! We chose a two person bundle that included - 7 waterfalls (2 hours) - UTVs, off road vehicles driving and stopping through the countryside rivers (1 1/2 hours) - plus an amazing lunch (dominican comfort food). The bundle cost 5,000 dominican pesos (roughly $90 USD). That’s about $45 USD per person for about 5-6 hours of fun and great memories between the waterfalls and UTVs. Can’t forget the delicious lunch! Waterfalls include 3 options: 1-7, 1-12, 1-27. We chose 1-7 since it was almost 2pm and we wanted enough time and energy for the UTVs. Honestly, the 7 waterfalls were enough to give us a great experience. They included 7 a steep hike, multiple cliff jumps ranging 15-20’feet and natural water slides. After the waterfalls there’s lunch. Once lunch was over it was time to ride the UTVs. UTVs need to be operated by someone with a drivers license. Each UTV drives 2 people. You have a personal tour guide the whole time. They take pictures and record for you as well. My tour guys went above and beyond to make our experience a trip worth a lifetime. Tip well (20%), they really look out. Will go back as soon as possible!

A must see! If you like adventure and water park, this is a right place for you. So many jumping, sliding and walking in water. We visited the 7 water falls, and it was enough. The round trip took 2 hours. The parking slot is safe enough to leave your valuables at the car. There are lockers available as well.

Amazing and fun experience. Unfortunately, only the 1-7 falls were open, due to the rainfall. The falls themselves were where fun. The water was very nice and we some really nice colors. I forced myself to jump off into the water (you can take stairs if you don't want to). But after a few attempts, I managed to jump off the rocks into the water, it was well worth getting over my fear of my heights. Additionally, you get to slide down some really cool natural waterslides. One of the guides offered to take videos and pictures with my phone, which i appreciated. (Of course a tip was expected and given).

Incredible experience. I flew to this island specificity for this. Unfortunately due to drought, only 7 of the waterfalls were open. So I did the zip line and waterfalls package for $45 which included lunch. The guide is super knowledgeable and friendly. I purchased the videographer package for the waterfalls only, which is also recommend. Zip line footage would have been boring. When I come back to Puerta plata, I will do just the waterfalls but I do recommend trying the zip line once.

This was a very cool experience, but I’m specifically posting with info I wanted to know and couldn’t find ahead of them: 1) As of Nov 2023 only 7 waterfalls were available (that was fine for us, still super cool) 2) You HAVE to pay CASH. It was $500 per person for just the hikes and falls (not including tip for the guides). $900 per person if you want to include buffet lunch. $100 for a small locker which adequately fit a small bag/backpack and our car keys (all Dominican peso values). 3) It’s a mix of sliding and jumping off/by the falls. I would recommend bathing suits with more coverage for your bum. 4) I didn’t have any problems with sunburn or bug bites there. 5) we wore our chaco sandals through the experience and that worked great. You do need some kind of water shoes, but can also rent them there.

Amazing experience! The water is so natural and fresh. Our guide Cecilio and our photographer Darlin were the best! I recommend to get a photographer for only $50 or $55. They give you as many pics and videos as you'll like and that way you dont have to worry about doing it yourself.

Bottom line: we had a great time. DETAILS AND TIPS: 1) Party: family of four (kids 14 and 16) 2) We did not book through a tour. We took a cab at the resort (waited for us there while we were doing the falls) and bought tickets on the spot. We paid 10 USD for the bottom 7 falls (only ones available; 10 USD more for a lunch). Total from Playa Dorada was 80 for cab + 40 for tickets + 2 for locker = 122 (or 162 with lunch) vs 400 for our family. 3) There are lockers to store your stuff. 4) Clothing: for men, swim shorts and a tshirt are probably best. For the ladies, I would suggest a swimsuit with shorts on top (to minimize the risk of bruises or damage to swimsuit). We all had water shoes with us from a previous trip. They can be rented on the spot, or you could also wear sneakers you don't care getting wet. 5) Crowds: It was very crowded, no doubt about it. Our group was 35-40 strong, but there were two other large groups ahead of us. Ideally, go on a day without cruise boats in town (simple do a web search for "cruise boat schedule puerto plata), but in our case (Xmas break) there were 2-3 cruise ships coming every day. One thing I thought about after the fact: while we showed up there around 9am, it might be worth considering going instead later in the day, say around 2pm-2:30pm (closes at 3). The reason: cruise ships need to leave port at 5 or 6pm, which means that their passengers cannot be starting the falls tour that late. That being said, despite the crowds, it was a ton of fun.

Absolutely Fantastic Day Had great fun driving the 4 wheel drive buggies, then you trek through the rain forest to the waterfalls, streams and water slides back down through the forest 😊😉 Only slight negative $8 for a locker, then $8 for water shoes and finally $80 for a memory stick with some photos & video from the day 🙄🙄 seemed a little 🤑🤑🤑 considering how much we'd already paid for the trip 🙄🤨

What an excellent adventure! Beautiful place, great chutes, jumps and waterfalls. What made this really special was our guide Carlos. We brought my eight year old nephew with us, he had a hard time acclimating to the water temperature and first jump. Carlos hung with him the rest of the trek, helping and reassuring him. Carlos saved the day! Request Carlos for your guide, we can’t stop singing his praises. This adventure was definitely the talk of our trip!

This placed is packed!!!!! Soo many people doing a variety of waterfall tours, but was pretty quick after the hold up at the first waterfall. Only 7 falls open at the moment because of weathering conditions to other falls but will keep you busy for about 3 hrs.

Great fun in the jungle and well organized, for once. Good guides and safe settings. Easy parking at location. Only 7 waterfalls are open at the moment due to lack of water but nonetheless it was awesome. 47 USD per pers. for the 5 zip lines + 7 waterfalls + lunch.

Probably one of the most memorable and magical parts of the DR. January is the best time of year because the water is so high that you can do all 27 pools. In November you will likely only be able to do 7 but it’s still worth it.

Loved it! Booked excursion through cruise. Our driver, Hosea, and guide on the bus, Blondie, made the 30 minute ride enjoyable. Our guides to the falls, Felix and Pablo, were fantastic. The hike up was pretty steep and not for thr faint of heart BUT it is worth it once you reach the falls. After the falls, thr walk back is smooth sailing. I would highly recommended.

It was a great excursion from the cruise line. WE went by bus there. I had been nervous because I'm not a great swimmer and I'm 69 but my daughter wanted to go. I didn't jump in but did do the slide ins. I had so much fun and would do it again!! The climb up wasn't horrible but was a little winded as I'm fairly fit but have some heart issues. The one gentleman working there was at the back of the line and called for a couple minute break once or twice when he saw some winded. He saw I was older and watched out for me. We bought the video and enjoy viewing our time there!
