Today it is a kind of exhibition hall on two floors dedicated to carnivals on the ground floor and watercolors of colonial houses on the upper floor.

Palacio Consistorial is a government building and tourist attraction. A similar building has stood on this site since 1578, but earthquakes destroyed early iterations. Italian-Chilean architect Joaquín Toesca, also called Gioacchino Toesca, created a neoclassical building in 1790. His former employee, fellow Chilean Juan Jose Goycolea, renovated the building in 1811. The palace became a national monument in 1976. The building was closed to the public on the day I visited.

The place is interesting, but be careful and avoid the guides. They show badges and promote the excursion in every possible way. You can see everything for yourself and for free!!! At the end of the 15-minute excursion, I wanted to rip off $30 per person, crying and talking about the children. We got away with $40, which is a lot.
