Was dragged to the Arithmeum today by my engineer math loving husband: and to my surprise I really enjoyed it. The machines that were first invented and used were incredible. I had no idea. I really enjoyed the hands on displays. Definitely gave me a new appreciation for math.

Very nice place, but some of the instructions on how to operate the machines could be more detailed. Even with them I couldn't figure out how to operate some of them. Also the English translation of those manuals is missing for some of the exhibits. Apart from these minor nit-picks, it was an amazing and very interactive experience. They also have explanatory videos downstairs that teach you about microchips in a way that anyone can understand, very fun to watch! And then there's the Puzzle board games... They were way too hard for me, but maybe you'll succeed.

Perhaps one of the best museums in Germany. No trip to Bonn is complete without a visit to the Arithmeum - so much to tickle your brain with - from interactive lectures on ancient computers to absolutely thrilling historical calculators which, if I had discovered earlier, may have saved me from dropping out of a mathematics degree. Staff were incredibly kind and well-read. Getting around all the exhibitions can be a bit confusing - start from the very top and working your way down the stairs is the best way for getting about it though! I'd recommend spending a few hours here - I was hoping to only spend an hour at most, but ended up spending ~3-4 hours since there was simply so much to do (it's especially interesting for mathematicians/academics). I was hoping to bump into Peter Scholze but unfortunately had no luck. Maybe next time!

Brilliant museum- loads of info (we have up trying to read it all!) and displays of old calculating machines. You can try a few of them out. All info in German and English - there are laminated cards on each floor with more information. It was only €3 entry too. Only sad thing- there's no cafe :- D

a small but great museum for science and art lovers. There are many hands-on exhibits for visitors to solve math questions. The staff was all very helpful and friendly. The entree fees is very cheap so definitely go visit if you are in Bonn. There are also enough chairs if you need to take a break.

Guided tours are not available due to COVID-19. Admission is 3 euros but the collection and interesting stories in the leaflets in English make this museum an absolute gem not to be missed! Grab and read the book titled Calculus on the third floor. It explains the history of arithmetic gadgets and calculators. Currently IBM art of chips is held as a special exhibition.

Great collection of vintage and modern mathematic tools - starting right from abacus (top floor) to the calculators and microchip tools (ground floor). Best part of this modern math museum is the hands on experience! You can use some of the old and modern instruments. Make sure to spare 2-3 hrs of your time here. This place won't disappoint you. If you're a student, make sure you avail the student discount (2€ as of Oct 2019).

This museum is worthy visiting. Actually I didn’t expect that I would stay here playing the games for a long time. The staff is also very nice and gave me some other recommendations in Bohn to visit.

Very interesting museum! It is so exciting to see all these calculating machines, to touch some of them and to learn how to use them! Something really meaningful! Worth a visit!

Really interesting, glad I found out about this place! Loads of English leaflet things for all the Germans signs too. Loved wearing the gloves for all the hands on bits, added to the fun in a way

Having studied computer science and having always been interested in algorithms and computing devices, I was very much looking forward to seeing this specialized museum while in Bonn. However, I was vastly disappointed. Already looking in from the outside (big glass front) , one could clearly see that the museum is aimed 99% at school classes, which overcrowded even the street in front waiting for the (extremely late) opening time of 11:00, which was not even kept. It was clear that an interested visitor would have very little opportunity to actually look in depth at the exhibitions while - obviously largely uninterested - school kids were forced by their teachers to overcrowd the facility. However, I kept waiting until, some time after 11, the museum did actually open. Then I learned that the museum arbitrarily demanded face masks and gloves to be worn during the entire visit, although all mandatory Covid measures (which had been more than paranoid and prolonged in Germany already) had long been lifted for museums. A total disappontment, definitely not worth visiting.

Very helpful and informative English speaking museum staff. The exhibits were very amazing and there were a lot of opportunities to interact with historical and modern calculating machines.

Spent 3 hours in there and entry was only 2€ for students! A lot of hands on with the calculating machines and got to learn of the transformation of counting in ancient times to the modern computer. Staff are also friendly to share about each machine and the internal mechanics when asked. Would definitely recommend!

Excellent museum. Well laid out, hands on opportunities, reasonable entry price and unique subject matter. Great art too! Recommend this one.

Great museum Just went through and never have been interested in such theme but they presented it super interesting and simple as possible! You can interact with some exhibitions, learn how to count on old counting machines with guides, see chips in microscope, play interesting games there.. on of the best museums I’ve ever seen, literally, that’s the example what museum should be.

This is a great museum for maths aficionados. Captures incredible history of Arithmetic in general and its cryptographic and more sophisticated discrete maths in particular. Several exhibits and all for about three euros fee. You can spend many hours on the four floors with some original but some replicas of some of the rarest calculation machines ever built. For English users, you have enough in English in terms of supplementary cards. Must visit if you are in Bonn.

Quite an interesting and unique exhibition featuring technology and mathematics. Inexpensive place to spend an hour or so and the staff made it an easy place to navigate.
