Nice vintage tramway to the top.of the Drachenfells where you have great views over the area. Halfway the ride you can stop and visit Drachenfells castle.

Loved the small coach chugging up the hills. The ticket fare is €12 for both ways and €10 for one way. U can buy the ticket online which is valid till end of the year or buy it directly at the counter. It has 2 stops, one at the Castle and another at the peak. Lovely views of the Rhine from the peak. Train runs every 15 mins till 7 pm during summer.

Oldest cog wheel railway, good one time experience. Ascending or descending to or from top is recommended and optionally you can hike back to half way where you can witness a beautiful castle with some stunning views and also can go for walk in and around the castle.

Those who does not want to hike, taking the railway is the easiest option to reach the peak of Drachenfels. The ticket is 10€ only to go up and 12€ for going up and coming down also (per person). I'd suggest at least to walk while coming down to experience the natural beauty of Drachenfels. The trekking way is just beside the station.

Lovely staff and there's a little museum inside the "station" which is nice to walk around while waiting for the next tram. The tram leaves every 30 minutes. Even though the museum is cute, I don't recommend taking the tram if you are not bad on your feet, especially considering the price (€12 or €17 if you get a combo ticket with the castle). The ride is literally 5 minutes and you don't see anything on the way, just the forest. You do not get a view of the Drachenburg castle nor the ruins. The tram makes a stop at the castle before it takes you up to the Drachenfels ruins. The surroundings are beautiful, so I recommend hiking instead. It's an easy hike. If you have kids, then it might be a fun ride though. Make sure to sit at the front.

Took a while to queue and get onto the train up the mountain, but the view was incredible. Suggest for you to take only a one way trip up by the train, and walk down. It is a relatively easy walk (about 20mins) and will go past the castle and some eateries.

Romantic old cog railroad going from old town up to the top of the peak to Drachenfels. The ride is about 20 minutes each way with one stop in between. You can also hike up there but it's a steep path. Enjoy the ride and the views through German history

Relatively inexpensive ride although quite short to what can only be described as some of the best view on the Rhine

Really really great. The view from up the top is spectacular. I walked back down and it was such a pleasure to walk through leafy forests and enjoy the scenery.

Expensive but worth it if you just enjoy the views and enjoy. Get there early at the weekend because it gets very busy.

Short and sweet. Easy way to get up the steep hill to the castle ruins on top, worth the trip for the view.

Great day out and cool experience. Views are magnificent! The staff were all friendly, but I have to question why a family of 4 is cheaper than a family of 3 with the family ticket. Not really fair at all, should have been offered family ticket. It's 2022, families come in all shapes and sizes. Having said that, I'm sure we will be back!

A great way to get to the castle ruins at the top, or the Stately home half way up. So much easier than walking and a different way to travel. Views from the top are spectacular. Masks must be worn on the train.

Easy way to get up the hill if you cannot make the walk or are simply feeling lazy. It's a slow ride in a historic tram. Tourist prices expected.

A wonderful Rack Railway of charm to the top and then an ongoing walk to Castle ruins However, even in May 2022 they are rigorously enforcing Face Nappies despite the mountain air, the vaccine and the non existent risk. Had I not been on a tour, I would not have used the railway

Rail travel is very good but there is nothing special in cassel. The view is good in autom and has very nice view point from cassel towards city.

Ideal outing with kids. Beautiful landmark on top of the mountain with superb views on the Rhein valley. Food and toilet facilities on top.

It’s such a mysterious experience to be taken up by a cute and relic of a train.

  • 5/5 Frank D. 9 months ago on Google
At Euro 12 quite expensive but those Rhine valley views are absolutely worth the trip. Hiking up and taking the train down might be the best option3

Such a fun way to get to the upper levels! Also nice option for rainy days! ☔

  • 4/5 Deborah W. 2 years ago on Google
Lovely little cog railway, much easier than walking up to the castle. It wasn't clear if you could get off at the middle station & then jump back on to go to the top station on the same ticket. But a hop on hop off ticket would be great

Charming old train, perfect to climb to the top and visit the castle. The last train to go down from the castle is at 6pm.

cool to drive all the way up with a train driven by a gear Wheel. some other attractions include a mini world with model trains. due to covid-19 that place was closed . Great view over de Rhine when travelling all the way up
