The
room
I
moved
into
after
one
night
(I’ll
explain)
was
wonderful
—
big
and
spacious,
clean
and
warm.
But
the
noise
—
the
windows
are
great
at
shutting
out
sound,
but
you
hear
everything
within
the
building,
the
common
doors
opening
and
closing,
the
footsteps
of
the
people
in
the
room
above,
if
they
drop
things
or
move
furniture
around,
you
hear
it.
The
first
room
I
was
given
was
half
underground
and
facing
the
train
tracks.
It
had
a
dampish
smell
and
the
dishes
were
not
washed
properly
and
also
smelled
of
mildew.
Everything
echoed
in
the
corridor
outside
—
footsteps,
conversations,
doors.
If
you
shut
the
windows,
they
steamed
up
pretty
quickly
after
a
shower;
the
extractor
fan
in
my
bathroom
wasn’t
working
so
well.
I
am
claustrophobic,
so
I
changed
rooms
to
one
available
at
a
slightly
higher
rate
after
one
night
because
I
barely
slept.
But
it
was
worth
it
as
I
really
liked
the
room
I
was
given.
Basically,
bring
earplugs
if
you
are
noise
sensitive,
and
avoid
the
underground
rooms
if
claustrophobic.
The
location
is
in
a
bit
of
an
industrial/commercial
area
next
to
train
tracks
(might
be
a
problem
in
summer
if
you
want
to
sleep
with
the
windows
open,
but
otherwise
the
windows
are
amazing
at
blocking
out
sound).
No
supermarkets
nearby.
There’s
a
Vapiano
within
walking
distance,
though.
Super
convenient
to
get
to
GIZ,
further
to
walk
to
get
to
the
World
conference
centre
and
UN
campus,
post
tower
and
DW
(public
transport
inconvenient
for
these
locations
but
ok
to
get
to
city
—
can
walk
to
the
UN
campus
bahnhof
or
to
the
tram;
both
have
direct
links
into
the
centre).
