We
rented
a
Dacia
Duster
with
Deficar
for
11
days
to
do
a
tour
of
North
and
Northeast
Algeria.
We
took
delivery
at
our
hotel
(Sofitel)
which
was
exactly
on
time.
There
was
supposed
to
be
a
cash
deposit
which
they
forgot
to
take
and
called
me
the
next
day
about;
said
30,000
DZD
(€140
or
€200
depending
on
rate
used)
on
the
phone
although
the
contract
said
70,000
-
not
sure
which
number
is
correct
but
anyway,
something
in
that
ballpark
should
be
expected.
We
SMS’d
them
my
credit
card
details;
not
sure
if
they
can
normally
just
take
a
card
deposit
as
that
would
be
a
lot
easier.
The
website
said
passport
required
as
deposit
as
well
which
was
not
the
case;
must
be
out
of
date,
fortunately,
as
that
is
what
we
were
worried
most
about
as
a
passport
is
needed
here
for
every
guest
to
check
into
hotels
and
if
police
ever
stop
you.
(Hotels
would
probably
accept
a
paper
copy
of
the
passport
and
a
paper
copy
of
your
visa
but
still,
better
to
have
the
original
for
police!)
Car
was
in
good
condition
for
100
k
km
in
Algeria,
no
technical
or
mechanical
faults.
A
fair
number
of
scrapes
on
the
car
but
when
they
collected
the
car
the
agent
just
looked
for
the
spare
tire
kit,
car
papers,
and
major
damage,
so
we
did
not
have
to
go
over
my
video
on
pickup
for
the
dozens
of
little
bumps
and
scrapes.
We
took
the
3000
DZD
package
for
cleaning
and
full
tank
of
fuel,
which
I
think
is
a
good
deal.
A
full
tank
is
about
1500
DZD
and
a
cleaning
much
less,
but
nice
to
not
have
to
deal
with
the
queues
at
many
gas
stations
and
to
return
the
car
near
empty.
As
with
everything
in
Algeria,
there
is
a
lot
of
trust
that
needs
to
be
had
between
both
parties
(eg
large
cash
transactions;
78,000
DZD
for
the
11
day
rental)
but
it
all
worked
out
great,
which
I
wasn’t
really
worried
about
due
to
all
the
good
reviews
I
found
online.
EU
license
holder.
We
were
never
stopped
by
police
at
road
checks.
Stopped
one
time
when
I
accidentally
tried
to
enter
a
military
site,
and
they
checked
my
docs
so
they
could
open
the
barrier
so
I
could
do
a
U
turn
instead
of
trying
to
reverse
through
a
bunch
of
zig-zagging
blockades.
No
international
drivers
permit
needed
for
EU
license
holders,
don’t
know
about
North
Americans.
I
suggest
giving
your
Algerian
phone
#
to
the
agency
when
you
have
it
so
that
they
can
call
you
for
pickup
and
drop
off
just
to
make
sure
everything
is
on
time
-
both
you
and
them.
They
were
perfectly
on
time
but
who
knows
if
there
is
an
accident
or
whatever.
The
car
had
USB
hookup
for
charging
and
music.
There
was
a
GPS
but
it
has
no
road
maps
so
it
wasn’t
so
helpful
and
we
used
google
maps
-
which
also
had
things
wrong,
a
lot,
but
better
than
nothing!
I
had
no
issues
with
their
website
or
with
calling
the
agency
at
their
listed
number
(+213
5
60036442).
I
spoke
with
3
agents
over
the
reservation
/
pickup
/
drop
off
always
in
French;
not
sure
how
their
English
is
(but
maybe
quite
good!
No
idea.).
