I came into the Emergency Department 2 weeks ago and just have to write to thank everyone from reception to nursing and medical staff for their exemplary care and attention. I arrived having broken my lower arm 5 days earlier in Greenland on a ship with only a doctor. The team manipulated the arm under local anaesthetic but sent me off expecting surgery when back in the UK. The orthopaedic consultant here was so impressed with their work that, to his amazement, there’s no complication and, so far, no need for an operation. No words can adequately say thank you.

We were driving a camper van around the ring road, and my son developed mysterious severe pain in his leg. I took him into the ER here, and he ended up having surgery and staying for 6 days. All the staff were fantastic. They were so helpful and understanding of our situation. They really went above and beyond, doing things like calling and negotiating with my camper van company (since we were not able to continue driving and return the van in Reykjavik), and keeping an eye on my younger son while my older one was in surgery. And the pricing was clear and incredibly reasonable (compared to what a tourist would be charged in the US).

On an Iceland vacation in May, 2018, I developed intense pains on the middle and lower left back area. The pain was so intense that I was unable to drive, sit or walk. I told my buddy to get me to the ER of the nearest hospital. I was met by a professional receptionist who understood my predicament -- in a foreign country on vacation with this situation. I was taken into the examination room by a nurse (wish I could recall her name) who asked the right questions, administered a shot and urinalysis. The doctor ordered a CAT scan and soon I found out that I had three kidney stones. The doctor (wish I could recall his name)gave me a presecription to fill. I left the hospital knowing EXACTLY what I owed. There was no comparison to the level of care and the relatively low cost of my visit. I am filing a claim with my travel insurance and feel good about being reimbursed. BUT I am well, they got me on the road again, and they were professional and compassionate. I was so fortunate, blessed to have been so close to this hospital when my issue occured. They are AWESOME!

Update: I was fine. Icelandic Search and Rescue Team very professional, never felt in safer hands. I worry that my reviews are attracting the attention of the Magic Circle. I have already seen a coin trick performed by one of the junior doctors. It is disconcerting. I plan to leave for London tomorrow, discharged or not. This island is a rotten place though it is not the fault of its inhabitants.

I was on a road trip last year and my friend fell badly on the knee. We went straight to the ER. The people were very nice and we didn’t have too wait long. That’s not so common. He got everything to at least enjoy a bit the rest of the trip with crutches. Could be definitely worse.
