Fort Breendonk makes the biggest talkers silent for sure, what an impression it gives to a person.. They did such a good job explaining the history at the entrance and the audioguide guiding you through the whole fort Breendonk. The storyteller definitely made you feel like you are living through that same hell. Needless to say the things that happened here, are unhuman and just pure horror. We went on a sunny day of 25 degrees, still it was around 5 inside the cold bunker, better dress warm! The audio guides are available in Dutch, French, English, German and Spanish. Though the information panels are mostly only Dutch and French but the many audio guide spots should not let you stop from coming if you’re not speaking Dutch and French only.

Really interesting site, the audio guide.in English was very informative. There were some imaginative displays and I feel there was a good balance between facts and statistics and information describing real lived experiences. It's a difficult visit emotionally, but extremely important to not let this be forgotten.

Though we saw these terrible crimes via movies, when we were kids, it's different viewing them in person. My dad fought in WWII so that this would never happen again. Now look at Ukraine.

Great place, very interesting but eerie too. Horrendous what prisoners had to go through on a daily basis. Definitely worth a visit. Large car park.

The visit is long and you should take about 3 hours if you want to listen to everything in the audio guide. But it’s really worth it. Very clear and detailed. Though if you are very interested in WWII history and want to thoroughly listen to everything, avoid weekdays. There are several school groups with guided tours and normally too much noise that makes it difficult to listen and focus on the audioguide.

It's a must for all tourists who wants to know a little history of this concentrationcamp. Take your tissues with you. I didn't add pictures from inside. Because this is something you should experience in real life. There is an individual electronic guide which will take you on a Journey of 2.30h to 3h. Available in French, Dutch, English and Spanish. Maybe even more. But I had a device holding these languages. I recommend it.

Visited Breendonk in family, with 2 teenagers. It was cold outside, and looked even more inside which helped better understanding of the environnement these people had to live. Such places are important to remember, to understand, to materialise how horrible was this war and how horrible some people can be. Visit, look, hear, feel and take your time to think about it... Visit takes around 2,5 hours.

(Translated by Google) Terrifyingly scary, but you are being pushed to the facts about how not to do it! Very confronting! (Original) Angstaanjangend eng, maar je wordt wel met je neus op de feiten gedrukt over hoe het niet moet! Zeer confronterend!

(Translated by Google) 1 museum on German concentration camps located a few minutes from Brussels. The place is full of stories and historical vestiges of the Second World War, you can see the conditions of prisoners' detention and many other significant details of history. To have with children over 12 who can better understand the facts. During the school period you risk finding a lot of excursions. I cannot give this a full review as I did not go in as I did not have much time, but the fort looks insane from the outside. So pretty and historic, it was great to even get a glimpse of the place. Parking is plentiful, albeit a little rough parking (I was in a low car with sports tyres so not too suitable). Some parking on the road which was ideal. The tour recommends around 2 hours for your visit and if I remember rightly it is around €10-15 per person.

Very interesting. As stated before if you listen to everything on the audio it will take 3 hours. We cut it down to about 1 1/2 hours. It was very good. The facility was great to tour. Visitors had access to pretty much everything.

Fort Breendonk was a sobering experience. The atrocities that were committed here by the Nazis, and Belgian collaborators, were shocking. If you’re interested in World War 2, I would highly recommend visiting. Allow up to 3 hours for the self guided tour (if you read and listen to every part of the tour).

Because we should never forget. It was not the worst but regardless people suffered and died. Their memories makes it worth the effort to visit.

Of great historical value - in a duty never to forget-..the wee audio guide shared a wise tale of resilience. A proper broomsweep to dust away the cobwebs sure shall be appreciated..as is better signage for cyclists.

Well worth a visit, but should be better kept and maintained...

  • 5/5 Shimal K. 4 years ago on Google
Very sad to think this actually happened. Give your selves 2hrs for the complete tour and do your selves a favour and bring your own head set/headphones as they do not offer these or you have to hold the audio device to your ear. Sadly people have been stealing them so they do not offer anymore. Suggested they take a small fee and allow guests to burrow headphones with 100% refund on return as having to hold up the audio device is annoying. Otherwise well worth the visit and tour.

Very impressive. I have visited this place many years ago, but nowadays it has become way bigger and more parts of the fort are accessable now. Very nice tour. Also new is that you get your own electronic guide... way better then before.

Harrowing. Distressing. Important. Excellent exhibits that really help convey why it's important this never happens again. Prepare to spend 3 hours or more if you want to listen to the whole tour. To the staff, thank you.

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately a very nice museum at the expense of the many human lives of the past. A good tour with audio guide. Gripping stories and you see and feel the cold and coldness of the past. 1 minor flaw closes at 4 pm. Mss understandable for the people who work there.

(Translated by Google) Very moving museum, very well presented. Visitors move from room to room and relive every moment of the prisoners who lived and suffered there. Only downside: arriving at 2pm, we don't have time to visit the entire fort with the audio guide (or do it at a run) because everything closes at 4pm ... which I find early for a museum. .. Otherwise nothing to complain about!
