Montania totally lived up to our expectations of a restaurant which provided delicious food and great service. Waiting staff were attentive and made me feel very special when a surprise cake appeared. Meals were all presented with in a highly appealing manner and all were full of subtle, delicious tastes. I loved the way the wait staff thought of easy solutions and adaptations to the menu to cater for my dietary needs (gluten free and vegetarian). Did I also mention the serving sizes were very generous? Would definitely recommend a visit.

We tried the Eggs Benedict $18.90, Avo De Light $23.90 and a Cappuccino $4.80. Both dishes tasted nice. The Eggs Benedict was a little small and I was still hungry after eating it. Won’t recommend it if you are very hungry. I enjoyed the cappuccino. Good place to stop on the way back to Melbourne after a hike. They charge 1.5% credit card surcharge. Heaps of free parking around.

Went for dinner to celebrate my mothers 95th birthday and was highly disappointed. We were told three times were able to bring our own cake and have the cakage fee waived (a per head charge) for a group of 20, however we didn't even have the chance to get the cake out of the box and we were stopped and told we were not allowed to celebrate unless we paid the cakage fee. We are highly disappointed that they came back on their word. They lied and conned us. After spending close to $600 i feel it so pety of them to try and charge us that fee after being told we wouldnt have to. Trying to support small local businesses in the area however after tonight we will never be back and would never reccomened to anyone, our money would have been better spent elsewhere. The only upside of our night was our waiter who was amazing the whole night.

First time here and we were very impressed. We got the deal from Groupon and it didn't disappoint. The food we ordered were delicious, generously portioned and nicely presented. We had a few special requests, all accommodated with a smile. Service was friendly and genuine. Food was really good, we'll definitely be back again. Thank you for a lovely experience 🤗

What a lovely cafe! Had the funghi pizza - it was amazing. Lovely truffle mayo on top. Very pleasant seating outdoors and in. Attentive service. It was the busiest cafe in Mountain Gate - always a good sign!

Cosy atmosphere, food was great, highly recommend the linguine pascatore. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly, accomodating and just overall lovely.

Absolutely delicious food and wonderful service. Prices are a little high but well worth it. The risotto is highly recommended and so is the breakfast menu. The level of patronage, even on a Sunday, is high which speaks to the popularity of the venue. They even have a couple of items on the menu for your dog! I have been twice and will definitely be back.

I came for breakfast on a gorgeous sunny Sunday morning. The young ladies who served me were friendly and helpful. I chose to sit outside and it was so great I stayed for over 2hrs. Excellent quality tables , not sticky and no wobbles. There were gasps when my breakfast arrived. French toast made from brioche shaped into rectangular towers served with stewed strawberries and magical pink marscapone , garnished with edible flowers and a side serve of bacon - I had it all - fat,salt,sweet,acid. I washed it down with a coffee. My only criticism is that coffees took far to long to arrive, and when I ordered a decaf coffee it was too strong. Highly recommend it for breakfast

Montania Cafe is one of my favourite breakfast/brunch spots. The wide variety of breakfast and brunch options is excellent and each dish nails it when it comes to being delicious. There is ample seating outdoors, on the ground floor and top floor. The place serves alcohol as well in case anyone is up for some early in the morning 😉

An amazing eatery that provides exceptional service, food and ambience! Had never been to Fern Tree Gully before, it was lovely. This cafe offers an excellent function room upstairs perfect for all types of events too. They are licensed so you have the option to have a drink with your meal which is a bonus! Highly recommend!

Lovely local cafe with delicious food. Great service and good atmosphere. Enjoyed brunch here and a delicious secret menu item of the day. The only thing that was a put-off was a roach crawled out of the kitchen area and was traversing around the floor area between the eating areas and the toilets.

Love this place. Go for a nice walk in Sherbrooke forest or 1000 steps, then come here for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Open 7 days a week. Plenty of options for people with food intolerances. Food and drinks are always superb 👌

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a great little cafe. I was taken there for breakfast by a friend and was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the meal. The food was very well presented and tasted delicious with a menu covering most things that one would like to eat when visiting a cafe. Not only was the food great, but the cafe also had friendly staff who provided excellent service. They were attentive, accommodating and help make space for us when we didn't book and they were busy . The prices were also reasonable, making it an affordable option for those looking for a good meal without breaking the bank. The cafe had a wide range of drinks to choose from, including coffee, tea, and fresh juices. The coffee was particularly impressive, with a rich, smooth flavor that left me wanting more. In addition to the indoor seating area, the cafe also had a cute little outdoor section, which was perfect for those wanting to be outside enjoying what little of the sunny days we have left before hitting winter!.

Last minute went here on Valentine’s Day and the food was delicious, cocktails were also delicious and the staff were extremely lovely. Only gripe is the cocktails took so long to come out and even the wine my husband ordered with dinner came out pretty much when we were finished, he had Lamb Shoulder and the red wine would of been delicious. Otherwise really nice upstairs, a bit too quick cafe downstairs for the price of the food.

Beautiful food. I had the Greek salad with lamb that was divine! I highly recommend the red velvet churros OM gosh delight!

So where's the best breakfast and coffee in Ferntree Gully? At Montania Cafe Bar and Restaurant at the west end of Mountain Gate Shopping Centre. Have been coming here for years and they have never disappointed. They obviously love what they're doing and it shows with their fine meals and hot beverages. Today's Caprese Omelette deserved a standing ovation. The Eggs and Bacon with smashed avocado and fetta was equally impressive. Lovely friendly staff and great ambience all round.

Staff are just wonderful ,friendly efficient and joy to interact with. Good and coffee great atmosphere joyful now suns out sitting outside is so relaxing. Didn’t take photos of diners for privacy reasons. Heaters as well. Also they donate bread to the op shop next door to give for free

$48 for a Porterhouse i was expecting something pretty good bit was disappointed was tough and my wifes cesear salad was like a swimming pool with way to much dressing. Was there for my nonna's birthday and was told no cake charge , then suprise suprise cake time and was told that if we cut the cake we will be charged $3 per head. Digusting behaviour after spending nearly $500 i think thats quite disrespectly towards us and my poor nonna. Her 95th birthday was ruined by greed and lies. Im digusted by this behaviour and will never go back. Our waiter was a legend btw and was awsome pity the bosses are greedy liers

I am just walk in for this cafe but give me a Biggggest surprise！ I am finished the whole gourmet seafood pizza ,they used the stuffing rich and fresh with special garlic sauce. And the Soup of the day is Thai pumpkin give me the incredible taste,pumpkin’s sweet with a bit spicy and sour it is a creative dish! Great service and lovely brunch!:-)

We came here for a birthday dinner for 6 people using the Groupon deal. Every dish from entree to mains and desserts were well presented, generous portions and delicious. The service was also very good. Definitely, we would return to try the other dishes.

We ate here tonight and were very impressed! Michael, our waiter, was outstanding, very welcoming, polite, and helpful with our dietary choices. Atmosphere was a vibe. The vegan menu was delicious and filling. The kids loved the pizza from the vegan kids menu, and we loved all of it. The Leaning Tower pizza was a 10/10. We’ll definitely be back.

This is a busy cafe and the staff are friendly and efficient. I come here for the breakfast - smashed avo and feta, 2 poached eggs, salmon (which they let me swap out for bacon) pesto and hollandaise sauce on sourdough. All the things I love for a breakfast. Tea is beautifully served on a tray with a Tea Drop teapot etc. I always ask for an extra pot of hot water which is also served in a Tea Drop teapot - unlike some places where I get given a stainless steel milk jug with the extra water. The only thing I would change would be to have tea leaves instead of a teabag. But otherwise - best Breakfast around. 😊

Lovely Italian restaurant, menu has lots to offer, service was great, our meals were delicious, I had the Sorrento salad which was packed with flavour & my husband had the steak that was cooked to perfection & the roast potatoes were DEEEEElicious!!

Father’s Day lunch was excellent. Such a busy day and we had great service nevertheless. Food portions are generous we could have managed with one less. But happy to take leftovers.

We ordered a bunch of pizzas for my sons birthday party. Their pizza quality is amazing. My personal favourite was the lasagna, but I would eat any one of them any day of the week. We ordered the day before, but realised that we hadn’t accounted for a couple of guests dietary requirements, I called when I was on the way there and they were able to punch out an extra pizza for us and it was ready when we arrived. Super friendly service. But that lasagna pizza is what really got me.

We had a lovely brunch. My poached eggs were perfectly formed and soft as requested. The service was knowledgeable and friendly. The coffees tea were excellent. One of our party remarked that it was the best milkshake she had ever had. We were all happy with our meals. The prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend for groups and families.

Great service! We were served by a waiter named Michael who made sure we had everything we needed. Michael is also very respectful and approachable, even willing to crack a few jokes. Besides the great service the food was flawless, personally recommend Nonnas Meatballs and a Ginger Beer as the drink. Definitely coming back

If it was just one thing, it would have been four stars. Unfortunately when it is 3 things it knocks the cafe down to two stars. However, maybe these three things will be fixed by your next visit. 1) Hot Chocolates are inconsistent - Not a big deal, I know. But when you go there the first time and the hot choc was awesome and the second it is pretty average, I guess you want it like the first time. 2) Charged for a swap - I know lots of places do this, but the good ones do not. In this case I asked if it was ok to make a swap, they said yes. So I assumed they would not charge me. If they said they were going to charge $5 for the swap, I would have said no, just minus then. Still not a great outcome, but still better than trying to hide it from us. 3) Prices are quite high - This is fine if the service and food reflects this or if the location is premium. Unfortunately none of the above. I'm all for charging high prices, but then service and food must match it. Otherwise you're pretending to be up market when you aren't. Still, the food/ambience would be classed as great if it was in a very picturesque place or/and if it cost 25% less. Your experience may be a lot better than mine, so feel free to rate them high or low depending on how you go. However, I still say that if you are going to charge higher prices, then you need to also be consistent so that 99% of the time everyone loves the food and service.

Food was absolutely amazing, all staff were friendly, but our waitress for the night Glicka was outstanding. Nothing was to much trouble, I along with the others I dined with will definitely be back.

Food was delish, although the interior was not what I expected when looking to the pictures of the venue. It was a very homey vibe!

My partner and I attended this restaurant for our two year anniversary and absolutely adored the meals we were served, utilising a Groupon to help us allow to try something different we were not disappointed. I would highly recommend ordering their gnocchi, the dish melts in your mouth and the flavours well balanced. Only reason I gave 4 stars was due to a bit of rudeness of stuff (seemed a little standoffish towards us when we arrived).

Really enjoyed the experience. Served by very personable and friendly server (sadly cannot remember her name but she was a recent covid employ) The food was beyond AMAZING and the atmosphere (even considering covid) was great. WILL be back again.

We ordered Funghi Bianco Pizza and it was simply awesome. Lemon & Ginger Tea Pot was great and so was the Chai Latte. Simply love this place

Went here on a Groupon recently, amazing food. Had the spiced lamb so soft and tasty. Trio of dips were good too. You can only substitute the 'included' glass of wine for soda water, no coke zero or anything else which is really bizarre, we will be back though.

Wow, that a surprise. Didn't know what to expect as we'd never been before. The food was great, the service even better. The meals were large and the taste was amazing. Definitely will be back, lots of gluten free options too. Plenty of parking right out front. Highly recommend.

We used to do family breakfasts here pretty regularly quite a few years ago, we went a few weeks back like old times, it didn't disappoint, great food, fantastic service, I can't remember the guys name but he was fantastic, a real character and made us feel very welcome, yes, we'll be back!

My family had a great dining experience in Montania. The food was tasty. I love my Honey Pumpkin and Chicken Risotto and the Peanut Butter Fudge for dessert. The staff were also very friendly. I will definitely be coming back.

Fantastic service, lovely food and nice atmosphere. They were very accomodating. Steak was cooked beautifully, it was tender and juicy, the steak fries were crisp and the salad was dressed well with nice fresh ingredients. All of the other meals looked fantastic. Will definately come back. Only negative is that the price point is high, but wont stop me returning :)

the last time I came here with my daughter and her Pug we sat outside and waited for breakfast service. The waitress that came out to us was clearly DISGUSTED with the presence of our pet that we were absolutely offended. Previous to that incident our party was subjected to disgusting food and service due to conduct of a waitress with whom we recently endured at the local petrol station who was incapable of operating the air hose and took umbrage to having lessons on how to operate. It does not take 10 minutes to put air in one tyre. It does not take anything to except help. It does however take clarity and good management to hire staff that benefits or destroys your business.

Very friendly staff, but the coffee was very overpriced, $6 for what didn't even seem to be very large. Unfortunately the coffee itself was very below average. Lovely restaurant but will not be coming here for a coffee run in the mornings. Still eagerly awaiting to try the food, hopefully after lockdown.

If I wasn't so terrified of the bill I would probably become a regular here. Props to the great food and service but it simply costs too much, with some dishes/drinks being ridiculously so. There are plenty of other excellent restaurants in Melbourne that won't cost you an arm and a leg and are of equal or greater quality. I recommend you try this place once but be ready to move on.
