Grossly over priced. The food was good, not great, considering the excessive prices. $10 - $24 for ONE oyster is ridiculous. We had no entrees or dessert and the dinner for 2 with 4 cocktails cost us almost $500. All we had was a platter for 2, that consisted of 2 x very small lobsters, 4 x prawns, 4x small pieces of fish, approx 15 small pieces(no rings) of calamari, a small bowl of prawn rice and a tiny bowl of spicy prawn salad, this cost us $399. We had to pay extra, by ordering an extra, just to get some chips. Also they offer 2 for 1 cocktails, which is a scam. The cocktails were $26 each. One cocktail had a huge square block of ice in it, when l removed the block, the glass was approx 1/3 full. All the other cocktails we ordered were also filled with so much ice. They offer these vouchers, if you buy a $100 voucher, you get $200 of credit, buy a $200 and you get $400 of credit, now l know why they offer these. Unfortunately you can't purchase these vouchers on the night of your booking, you must purchase at least 24 hrs prior. Won't be back

I do love Lobster Cave but was very disappointed by the extreme price increase. I understand they’ve probably had a really hard time with COVID but just don’t think the prices are justified what you get. And I don’t like how the menu is simply not on their website. However, we did really enjoy our food, staff were fairly friendly and the added extras liked lobster bisque and port and chocolates at the end are a lovely touch, just think they should be more transparent with their prices and put their menu online so people aren’t shocked like us when they arrive.

It's a difficult one to write about. I myself am not a big seafood eater but my wife loves it. She really enjoyed the seafood on the surf & turf meal and like my food 400g scotch fillet (meat and potatoes man) the meat was average not cooked as requested as medium. Both of ours was slightly overcooked. My scotch fillet was thinly cut which was odd as my wife's steak was a nice 1inch thick. Our sweet potato was nice and tasty. Overall I was disappointed, yes you can say it's well known for the seafood but if you are not going to cook it perfectly for the price your paying, don't offer it on the menu. It certainly was not worth $120 for the scotch fillet, to me it was worth $25. I have paid 60-80 for a steak that was easily 10x better than this while licking my fingers. We had also ordered an entre dish with seafood and calamari. The calamari I can honestly say was very nice. As a X butcher, I would not offer steak in this restaurant, stay true to the name of the business otherwise cook it perfectly ALL the time. Would I ever go again, NO. The service was great and it had a great atmosphere but the value is absolutely not there for us, unless you are an absolute lobster / seafood nut. I wish I could have written a better review.

Had the seafood platter for two... Very satisfied with the food and the service was really good and friendly. Oysters were the best I've tasted, but $11 each was super overpriced. The atmosphere was good, and our lunch was enjoyable. We'd recommend The Lobster Cave for anyone who loves seafood and a good feed!

Great service and excellent fresh seafood in a busy restaurant. We were warmly greeted at the door. Service is prompt and attentive. The seafood mains are ample for our group, and we had leftovers as well. I would recommend the signature platter for 2 for special occasions and definitely for seafood lovers. Thank you very much for complimentary lobster bisque, port and chocolates too. It's a very nice gesture. The beach is nearby so it's nice to take a walk after a feast!

Classic lobster cave.. The selection of food is quite good. The quality is very good, although you would expect that for the price. You will need to budget $200 per head on a Saturday. You can look out for specials by signing up to the lobster cave membership. On a Saturday night, the place was full, reflecting the popularity. The atmosphere was quite good. The decor seems the same as last time I went there several years ago but maybe it's been updated as it looks clean and fresh.

"Lobster Cave is a must-visit spot in Melbourne! I recently went there with friends for their awesome 88-person seafood feast set, and it was incredible. From the tasty lobster bisque to the juicy grilled chili prawns, every dish was spot-on. But the star of the show was definitely the ginger rock lobster – so flavorful and served with yummy fried rice. And don't even get me started on the chocolate macaron dessert – it was the perfect sweet ending to an epic meal. The value for money is insane, considering the quality and variety of seafood you get. Just be sure to book ahead because this place fills up fast. Overall, Lobster Cave totally blew me away, and I'm already planning my next visit!"

I had my anniversary dinner at this restaurant . I was a Saturday evening . Booked at 5pm but was changed to 4:45. But it wasn’t affect our plan . We were allocated to a table in the middle of the lounge which was right under the air-con outlet. The cold air was blowing above our head 🌬️. Actually we and the guest sitting next to us were feeling not very comfortable 🤢because the weather on that day was pretty bad , outside kept heavy raining⛈️⛈️ . But the section we had wasn’t full. Still have lots of table vacancy . Not sure why they offered us this table. First sat down and offered 2 creamy soup . very nice 👍👍👍 Then we looked at the menu and found that some items were not served on Saturday ( seafood platter and the chef’s set). Just a little disappointed due to limited choice . Then we had ordered 2 dishes: FRITTO MISTO DI MARE. 👌 WILD CAUGHT BARRAMUNDI FILLET & LOBSTER MEDALLIONS. 👍 Food quality was good and services was great as well . Due to early dinner , we were still full and decided not to order more food . We paid by a pre-purchased gift card (birthday gift by a good friend , paid $100 and worth $200)😍. However , there was a 8% surcharge applied on Saturday . For Sunday , it jumps to 10% and public holidays will be 15% .🈶 Overall , not bad for fine dining. If for weekdays , the price is reasonable . However if having this for weekend and public holidays , that may not be a good choice as items on the menu were limited and also pricy surcharge applied. Few things to remind customer: Booking is required and a $50/ppl will be charged from your credit card if no show .⚠️ 1.5% surcharge applied for credit card payment.🈶

Had to give them a try, but we won't be returning. Had a booking for 5:15pm but received a call a couple of hours before and was told to be there at 5pm "to space out their arrivals". Bizarre. Started with 3 types of oysters, which were large and fresh. Shared a tureen of lobster bisque, which was tasty but a strange brown colour. Wife had lobster French style, asked for half, but got a whole big lobster which was overcooked and mushy and more like Thermidor than French style. I do lobster at home much better, and these guys are supposed to be lobster experts. I had an eye fillet steak which I asked for medium-well, but came out well. Was still tasty. The au-gratin potatoes cooked in a tiny pot were a joke. Fortunately the wine we chose was a winner, even if dinner was not. The overcooked lobster was $199 and total bill was $499. Not worth it.

It’s a pretty ordinary place, IMO. First, it’s not a restaurant so much as bistro. The tables are very close to each other and the place generally it has quite an unsettling closed in feel, I found. The prices are utterly absurd. $49 for a nice but fairly basic prawn cocktail entree. $179 (you read that right - not $79, $179) for a main course lobster main. These dishes were good but a long way from justifying those prices. The wine options were ridiculously minimal. You could have knocked me over with a feather when they actually ran out of the white wine we chose. Service was OK on the night from the couple of younger servers who attended to us. Service was not OK from one of the older servers who was rather gruff and uninterested. I was lucky enough to have had my meal paid for by a friend. That softened the blow of coming here a little. I wouldn’t come here again. There are much better seafood restaurant options in Melbourne.

Watch out everyone for overpriced food. The food is good but ridiculously priced. $38 for sparkling water really tops it. I went to another place, and I was complaining about $12 water. 😊 Is this a poshy place? Not really. Having black theme and expensive food doesn’t necessarily make it a trendy place. Atmosphere with tables too close to each other didn’t help either. I got bumped more than 5 times by the head waitress without an apology. Lost count by others. There were two elder head waiters and a waitress who kept ordering the youngsters to do things. However, the youngsters were doing their jobs properly. I felt these head waiters/waitress being around our table made me a bit uncomfortable. At one stage, they were towering close to our table, discussing things. It is not a good idea to have your table next to the kitchen as they will disturb you for sure. The lobsters were great and well cooked. I cannot say the same for fish. As they were over cooked and dry. Crustaceans are what you should pick. Would I go there again? Definitely as I still have the taste of the lobsters I ate. Less the head waiters/waitress, rest of the waiting staff was great. Especially Candi helped us a lot. She has picked what to eat for us and she was spot on. Thank you 🙏

Came here for lunch yesterday with a group of 9. Food was average, but disappointing & disgusted at the fact that there were worms on our oysters. We also did not order the bisque, it was brought to our table and we sent it back to the kitchen, our waiter then told us it was included with the risotto & linguine, only to find out it wasn’t and then charged for it. After going back and forth, we were only refunded $30 for the $100 bisque that we did not order. You’d think for a $1000 bill, there would be higher quality food & service. Disappointing overall, average overpriced food, won’t be back.

We had not been here for several years but decided we wanted a special place for our 33rd wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked in we were treated to a fantastic experience, the staff were knowledgeable and very helpful. We decided on one of the seafood platters and were delighted with what we received. Delicious lobster mornay, fresh prawns, stunning oysters, very tasty tails, the tastiest fish, and several other items. This was accompanied by great cocktails! We can't recommend this restaurant enough and we will definitely be back soon. Thanks for a great experience.

I went lobster cave many times before Covid. Thanks to their EOFY promotion voucher, it bough me back again! We had the Lobster trio and Grilled lobster tails with chips as the Main. The food are fresh and sensational, the service is excellent and full of warm smile. We are so full to have any dessert! But I still remember many years ago their in house made ice cream was the best ever I had in Melbourne. I brought in our favorite wine with no cocktails! What amazing and forgettable experience! Yummy seafood!

Its definitely worth the drive wherever you reside at, it was stylish, Classy, and provides a great comfortable atmosphere to dine in at.I will be definitely going back for the delicious food and drinks which was more than enough for us. The pricing is very reasonable for the service and food you get provided. The staff are great and the host/ manager/ owner Con was funny and a fantastic host. Thanks again Lobster Cave Beaumaris.

I’ve always heard of the Lobster Cave and finally got around to trying it after buying some double value vouchers during one of the Covid lockdowns. Vouchers must be used in one sitting, so you feel compelled to get close to the face value. Servings are big, there’s no doubt about that and the ‘Perfect Starter with Prawns’ was almost a meal in itself. I love garlic bread so it was right up my alley - a good start! The scallop mornay was also a large serving for a starter, alas it was bland and I could barely taste any of the 3 cheeses. After this we had the Oceanic Platter and the Fritto Misto. Quantity was certainly there but the Fritto Misto all started to taste the same and it wasn’t particularly light on the batter. Desserts are $20+ each and pre-made and served in a glass and fairly disappointing. Creme brûlée was biggest I’ve ever seen in a restaurant but the chocolate mousse was as far removed from a mousse as I’ve ever seen. We overheard the table next to us ask for the dessert menu at the end of their meal but the waiter told them they had to vacate the table in 14 mins and there wouldn’t be time for dessert. These are pre-made and refrigerated desserts that take no time to grab out of the fridge and bring to the table! Overall, service was a bit amateur and messy. One waiter poured the finger cleaning bowl all over my phone, the table next to us had a wine glass knocked over and smashed by another waiter, the table on the other side of us had a water glass knocked over by the finger bowl waiter and our waitress removed salad bits from a bowl with her hand. It seems like a lot of customers are there on behalf of these two for 1 vouchers, so surely they need a better process in place. On calling and reserving my table, the woman took my voucher number and details. On arrival, we said we had a voucher and then at the end of the meal two different staff asked if we wanted to pay by card or cash. Then they want to take your phone up to the counter to scan the code and it’s just plain messy. Sort this out. Finally, I asked for the receipt and was told it would be brought to the table but a few minutes later after not receiving it, I went up to where they’d scanned the voucher and the waitress was holding onto the receipt and having a chat with her colleagues. Lobster Cave positions itself as reasonably high end (admittedly with an expensive product), but the service was way below that. I’m glad I tried it but for a meal a touch under $400, we didn’t feel amazed.

Absolutely fall in loved with the new Feb special! 88pp and you can get all you want: soup, lobster, steak, seafood and even dessert! Their sea food platter is full of treasure as well! Staff told me they opened 37 years now and it’s my first time trying it out and definitely will come back for lobster again!

Definitely fresh and good portion. Great and friendly service. The flavour lacked though. I guess I'm used to richer flavourful food. Good standard for people who aren't too big on flavourful seasoning. Maybe it's just western standards.. very expensive but I understand because its a large portion of fresh seafood but once is enough, I've had my fill and probably won't come back. Good to try once.

Simply a dining experience of excellence defined by food and service. I strongly recommend starting with the garlic bread, mashed potatoes and warm olive board - the tastes marry perfectly and lovers of well prepared seafood will not be disappointed with one of Lobster Cave's amazing seafood platters. You will not go past the lobster mornay, even with three other choices. The service was truly top notch, very attentive but not intrusive. Susan delivered this perfectly and always with a warm smile. Without a doubt, we will be returning again. Thank you Lobster Cave. Neill Bartlett

Atmosphere & Experience - The restaurant itself feels exclusive and upmarket, and the interior theme is modern, dark, and "cave" like. Service- The staff are very professional. Maitre D is welcoming and friendly and the hostess is very good and making you feel special and ensuring you are well taken care of. We had a young waitress CANDI, who was so well spoken, caring, and was great at recommending a variety of dishes on the menu. For entree ordered a dozen oysters for entree. They were jumbo size, very fresh, and meaty! Calamari salad was tasty, and the flesh was so soft and filling. For mains- we ordered hot platter of 2 lobster thermidor, jumbo prawns, prawn rice, fried fish, chips, and santorini salad. I ve given it a 4 star because the prices are sky high, and even though the food is good, it does not REALLY reflect those sky hgh prices. We ended up paying $734 for 3 people!..... Normally those prices would be at a 5 star location, live entertainment, plus dessert. We did not even order dessert or cocktails. The location is super far from Melbourne city so we would not go out there again because its just way too far. Im very happy we experienced something different.

We went to the lobster cave last Sunday for our 21st wedding anniversary. We had a seafood platter which was absolutely amazing! Everything on it was cooked and prepared beautifully. Our waitress Lily was amazing, she made us feel at home and explained everything perfectly and was very attentive and witty. We were able to order a take away platter for a birthday gift which was enjoyed thoroughly by our parents. Great service, food and ambiance for a special occasion. I would highly recommend and look forward to going back some time.

Welcome to the venue was fantastic, service top notch, ambience great - not too noisy so you can comfortably have a conversation. Food is sensational! Stated with oysters and then to the Surf n Turf. Quality of the steak and seafood was top notch - well worth a visit! Make sure you book as it does get very busy.

We were invited here for lunch yesterday. My sister-in-law is a member of the Lobster Club. I really loved the dark vibe of the decor; it gives a great ambience. The wait staff were really good providing friendly, efficient service. I ordered one of the specials : A Taste of Land & Sea which came with a complimentary glass of wine. The meal consisted of eye fillet steak, beef meatball, lobster meat, crumbed prawn cutlets and calamari. I could not fault the meal at all, and could barely finish it. The highlight for me was the eye fillet. It was perfectly cooked - medium rare - tender, juicy and full of flavour. It you haven't experienced the Lobster Cave yet, you really should give it a try. Become a member of the club.

We had a beautiful evening at the Lobster Cave. From the time we walked in to the time we left, we felt very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had the seafood platter for two, it had a great variety of both hot and cold seafood. It was absolutely delicious and plenty of it. It was just a little upsetting that my son had arranged a surprise bottle of wine with a card to be on the table when we arrived. It wasn't and we knew nothing about it until my son commented on the photos I sent. He had also paid for desserts, we did get these after asking and they were very nice. The management did apologise, giving us a bottle of wine to take home, stating that it was better than what my son ordered. My hubby knows wines and was grateful but knew it was a very cheap bottle of Bortoli. We were also given a $50 voucher. Overall I recommend the Lobster cave for a lovely meal in a pleasant environment. Thank you to the staff for their wonderful service.

Went in early august to utilise my EOFY gift voucher. A hold on your credit card is needed to place a booking. I ordered the showcase platter and broccolini for a family of 3, sufficient food for us. The best bit of the platter was actually the steak, it was very good. The lobster was fresh and prawns was good too. However, the calamari was a bit disappointing for a place of this stature, I expected more. Overall it was a good 4 star experience. A good place for occasion.

Wow, what an experience!! Definitely not somewhere you come every day. The lobster and steaks we had were delectable. Shout out to Michel our waiter, his service was impeccable and yet most importantly still human :) Con the owner was super friendly also. Decor is fresh yet romantic. Would be perfect for an anniversary dinner, corporate function or another special occasion. Take anyone here you want to impress!! Next door is Le Bar which is worth a look too, sister company of Lobster Cave.

A bit late for this review, but last month in May I brought my family there for a Friday lunch and we loved it. My parents are from interstate and my two aunts are from Singapore and USA and it was so good to be able to get together after so many years and have a nice day out for lunch. We all found the seafood fresh and delicious and the service was amazing from our server Elizabeth and the manager Sue. We ordered the Seafood Platter, plates of the Seafood Jewels, Oysters and Prawn Linguini and they came out quickly even though the place was full. We had a nice table and even though the music was a bit loud, the atmosphere was good. After our meal, Sue gave us port and chocolates to end our wonderful meal. We were also very lucky to win their Friday lunch promotion of a Golf Experience at X-Golf Mornington! Can't wait to go and experience it. Will definitely be back to try all their other offerings! It was great value for money as I had bought their vouchers which saved me 50%. Recommend to book weeks in advance as we couldn't get a dinner reservation so went for lunch which was a great choice as we went to the Brighton Bathing Boxes afterwards.

Incredible! I attended the Exclusive Dinner experience which was an intimate experience for 13 people. With an explosion of the senses, the unique pairing of fresh seafood, lobster, steak and cheese with live shaved truffle and tasmanian wine. Each course, as good as the last with unique flavours. This was a perfect collaboration between Lobster Cave, Dalrymple Vineyards and Truffle Melbourne. If they ever bring an intimate dining experience back, I can't high reccomend attending!

Parking was relatively easy. The experience was interesting. We opened the door and pretty much walked into someone. She escorted us to our table that was relatively cramped and the whole place was generally pretty dark and non inviting. The food was decent enough. I guess I was maybe expecting more considering the hype and the prices. The lobster was ok. I thought the prawns were better. The service was generally pretty good and they gave us some freebies which was a nice touch. The cocktails were really good. We had a nice enough time but don’t think I’ll be going back anytime soon.

The food, service and atmosphere at the Lobster cave is absolutely fantastic. While here the do little things that make it great, bring out a small soup for you to eat, complimentary dessert and other things. If you're looking to go somewhere for a nice night out and want to have seafood definitely come here (If you don't like Seafood they also sell A5 Wagyu steak).

Value for money — when they say “banquet”, they fully mean a banquet. There was half a lobster per person in the Chinese New Year banquet ($88), and we had more than enough to eat. This menu is Asian-inspired, with XO sauce in the oysters, a tom yum spin to the BBQ prawn, and ginger scallion style for the lobster. Standout was the lobster bisque which was rich and thick with lots of lobster meat in it. BBQ prawn had great flavour, and texture was just right. I felt slightly let down by the doneness of the grilled wagyu, but the addictive mustard sauce with diced capsicum saved the dish. The XO oyster and ginger scallion lobster lean towards saltier palates. The deluxe seafood platter can easily be two meals — lunch and dinner. Standouts were the scallops, thick and perfectly cooked. Salt and pepper calamari was nicely executed in texture and taste and not dry at all. I thought the garlic was rather mild in the Morton bay bugs for my tastebuds and would have preferred a less watery sauce. Mornay lobster was decent but I guess I prefer my lobster done other ways. Great bustling atmosphere, good for people watching too.

800g lobster, not very big, $249 each. I would say that’s pretty expensive. The 2 tier lobster tray is $499, not much food, also pretty expensive. The risotto is very yum. Service is lovely. Ambience is good too. It is for a special occasion. If I am to go again, I will buy their voucher (but voucher cannot be used on Saturdays).

Once seated, the service was very friendly & warm. Food was tasty, cooked as how seafood should be cooked, with good portion sizes. Some of the best lobster I’ve had in my life! The little treats to start & end the dinner was such a great touch for CX, we especially loved the little “Thank You for dining with us” take home box of surprise 😍 The pricing can be a shocker if you haven’t checked them out before hand or aren’t used to dining out lavishly. It’s definitely a restaurant for the occasion. I recommend visiting just for the sake of it though. We had a great night with great food & service 🤗

The seafood was fresh, and skillfully cooked well - nothing over or undercooked.. The scallops were big, plump and juicy. That lobster bisque was rich and luxurious. Portions were adequately generous, and everything was tasty - the rice that came with the Ultimate Platter is still talked about in reverent tones! Even the steak was cooked exactly medium as we had requested - an achievement not even some steakhouses get right all the time. Staff were friendly and looked after us well too.

Had a wonderful time at the lobster cave… Let’s be honest… This restaurant has been around for a very long time … and still managed to stay open, despite challenging times! Admittedly, I was a little surprised at how amazing the food and the service was from my experience eight years ago, which would be a four star, and now I could put 10 stars ⭐️ … Thank you so much.! Will definitely be back again. 🦞💚

We’ve been returning to lobster since 2018! Needless to say we love this place!!! Fresh seafood plus the amazing customer services that can’t be experienced anywhere else. In 2022 we came here for my graduation and was served by Kieran(I think that’s their name) We were so impressed that when we come back here again for my sister’s graduation we needed to get a pic with him. Highly recommend following their socials for deals, gift vouchers, and specials so you can experience Lobster Cave and also save $$$ Wine can BYO And don’t forget the Crème Brûlée!!! (Please bring back poach pear I will KILLLLLL for the poach pear 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺)

We had a lovely night. The staff did an excellent job of looking after us. The food was delicious although quite expensive mainly the rock lobster. Would order something different for main if we go back.

Amazing lobsters ! So fresh, tastiest and yummiest I have ever eaten. The good portion of fries were so good and unforgettable !!! Sending hugs and massive thanks to Alicia, who took care of us very well, attending to us and ensuring that we had a wonderful celebration. Sincerely appreciate the kind gestures. Yes, it's very pricey, but am happy with the overall experience and the complimentary starter, port and chocs, made us feel valued and appreciated - will definitely be back. (Ps. the rib eye was a little dry & tough - perhaps a little overdone, but we still loved it, no big issue (last night was a really busy packed night for the restaurant, congrats !!!).

We LOVED it here!!! We found the food exquisite, the décor tasteful, the service fast and the staff friendly. Found it really hard to compare any previous dining experience with the one we had at Lobster Cave, nothing else ticks all all the boxes quite as well. A delight for seafood lovers and fine dining enthusiasts.

The best service I've received in Melbourne. Complementary brisque, irish cream and chocolate!! The food was delicious, the portions were large and the truffle rice was incredible. Sarah was extremely attentive, service oriented and made the experience personal. Found out they have a free membership program with amazing perks.
