Came here for the first time on a Saturday night for their first sitting (6pm-7:45 but they told me on the phone we can come in earlier if we need more time). We were a small group of 3 and arrived at 6pm. I’ll start with the food first. The starters and steaks were yummy but the sauces were only okay (and expensive) and the mash was too salty and had cheap gravy on it for some reason. The eye fillet was the best. Another pro was that their vent clearly is amazing as it was quiet and the small venue had not much of a steak or smokey smell! That’s a big plus to me. Ok, now on to the cons… Most memorably, they rushed us through our entire dinner. The steaks were underdone in regards to what we requested but were acceptable and still yummy. On at least 4 occasions the wait staff took unfinished plates or glasses from the table sometimes without asking. Taking unfinished dishes away without asking is very rude. Also they did not provide water at any point of the night. All in all, it was not worth the value despite the steaks being pretty yummy. The interior is okay - there are takeaway boxes and other misc items on the counter behind our table which was captured in the background of our photos. The 2 star rating is mainly due to the overpriced menu given the quality of service and the not so great side dishes. FYI a small thing of sauce was $5.50 each and a glass of coke was $7. Please do not take unfinished dishes away from the table without asking!

Just finished a meal there with a group of five ordering different steaks, steaks are good quality doneness were perfectly managed, an awesome steak experience. Friendly staff, especially the owner, promptly response to my reservation and enquiries while in the middle of busy night.

This place is a must for steak lovers. The beef chevaps were so soft and succulent. I had the SCOTCH FILLET 350GM Grain Fed Queensland Angus which was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing, absolutely loved it! Service was on point and we were even given a complimentary serve of the beef chevaps which we devoured. The chef/owner even came out to check that everything was good which is a nice touch that you don't really come across these days. We'll definitely be coming back for more 😎

Well what can I say meat just melted in your mouth absolutely beautiful, stuff very friendly and helpful and atmosphere is very cozy. Highly recommend if you want a nice night out....

The steak was amazing! Perfectly juicy, tender and melt in your mouth. The entree and the side salads were delicious as well. Service was outstanding from all the waiters, waitresses and the cook. Highly recommended!

Amazing as always!!! Took mum there for her birthday last week, first time back since covid and couldn’t fault it! Have been there quite a few times and not only is the food fantastic the service is always beautiful and super friendly! Lovely wait staff and chef Emilio is super friendly and makes you feel like a VIP all the time. Even gave mum a complimentary bottle of wine for her birthday. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great range or steaks (plenty to choose from) and yummy deserts! Thanks chef and team, look forward to coming again soon 🙌👌🏼🥩🍷

The service was the best I have ever experienced to date. It honestly feels like your own home. The food portions are out of this world. It you go here (which you 110% should), make sure you go hungry. The meat cuts are of top quality and when you pick your entrée, make sure you get some lamb ribs, they are divine. Go on, treat yourself!

Delicious two courses meal (starter and main or main and dessert). Steak is cook as exact level, starter slow cook lamb ribs are very juicy. Potato mesh with choice of beef stock or oil, we've chosen one for each as my wife doesn't eat meat, both are smooth with great favor.

We savoured the beef cevaps and halloumi cigars as starters, bursting with savoury flavours. The perfectly cooked eye fillet with mushroom sauce and potato mash stole the show for the main course, showcasing the chef's skill and passion. However, the restaurant's lively atmosphere could make conversation challenging at times. Overall, a delightful culinary experience worth returning for.

Great food, service and atmosphere. The chef was very kind and caring about their food and patrons. Mushroom steak was cooked to the correctly on how we wanted the steak. Juicy and flavourful. Chicken Mediterranean with mushroom sauce was delicious. Chicken was not dry and the sauce was wonderful. Chorizo was delicious. Would definitely go back to try other cuts and food. Recommended A+++

Been coming here for around a year and a half and I always walk out as a happy customer: The chef sure knows how to do a good steak and I also find they've gotten quite good at timing when your dishes come even when the place is crowded. The staff are friendly and attentive. The mash is a bit plain but the other side dishes, especially the meat based ones, are outstanding.

Worth the wait post Covid, on a night celebrating myself and my partners birthday. Phenomenal service as always, Emilio's advise is always spot on with meat selection and cooking techniques. 10 stars. Best steak house in Melbourne. Family run and owned, and it feels like your enjoying your meal just like your with family.

Had a booking for 18 people that was cancelled by another restaurant on the day due to covid. I contacted Emilio to see if Ivanhoe Tavern would be able to cater for such a large group with only a few hours notice. Emilio was lovely to deal with and made it work under such short notice. We were served a set menu and everyone complimented the food and service. Thank you for a great evening and making it happen! We'll definitely be back.

This is an outstanding local steak house which in my opinion ticks absolutely every box and provides a very cosy and comfortable environment. The Staff were very friendly and attentive. The chefs enthusiasm and passion adds to the genuine atmosphere. Our mains were fantastic, the eye fillet steak complemented by mash potato and a very tasty mushroom sauce would have to be one of the best that I have ever had. The Mediterranean chicken is full of flavour and very well portioned. The deserts were delicious and I highly recommended the Nutella or forest berry crepes. Many thanks for a fantastic evening. My family and I look forward to our next visit.

One of the best places for good stalls in Greater Melbourne. Quality and prepartion of the meat is excellent. Great choices for starters and desserts. The staff and chef are really nice and friendly, giving a lot of attention to each patron.

The dining experience at this restaurant was a true delight. The exceptionally friendly service was a standout, and the fresh baguette cuts with EVOO and rich balsamic were tantalizing. For the starter, the lamb ribs were perfectly cooked; however, I would have preferred leaner cuts with less fat.The complimentary beef chevaps served to us by the chef himself, were a delightful surprise. The main dishes, including the New York cut steak and the succulent Mediterranean chicken, were cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The portions were impressively generous, so I highly recommend going with a hearty appetite. A nice rocket and pear salad was served with each dish. The apple and rhubarb crepe for dessert, accompanied by vanilla ice cream was enjoyable, although nothing special. While the dining experience was delightful, there are a few aspects that could be improved to elevate it further. Firstly, tap water should be served from the beginning -not only on request-, ensuring guests feel comfortable and hydrated throughout the meal. One minor inconvenience was the immediate whisking away of empty plates after each course. A more relaxed approach to clearing the table would have allowed us to savor the moments between courses fully. Additionally, the ambiance fell short of fine dining expectations. Elevating the interior design, cutlery, and plating would create a more cohesive and luxurious feel, further enhancing the overall dining experience.

What a little gem. We went for Friday dinner with our young family and it was absolutely lovely. Everyone was very kind and helpful with the bub. Steak was absolutely delicious can recommend the ribeye and the lamb ribs. Would recommend calling and making a reservation. Will be back.

Amazing, mouth-watering steaks!!. I ordered the scotch fillet with garlic butter on the side and didn't want to finish it that's how good it was. Cannot wait to come back again and shout out to the staff for their excellent customer service and Emilio the head chef/owner who is a legend!

Easily beat the $400 steak I had last week at fancy French restaurant in the city. Chef knows what the go is in the kitchen. Waitress had the whole floor covered with ease. First restaurant me and my wife didn’t pick apart on the way home. 10/10.

Exceptional! The best steak we’ve had! The food was amazing and the customer service incredible! The tavern is inviting, very clean and very comfortable. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection! We tried the lamb ribs (10/10!) and Beef & Reef (10/10!) which was served with mashed potato and salad - the serves were generous and beautifully paired. Kudos to the chef who is an amazing host and also to his amazing team who made us immediately feel welcome. Ivanhoe Tavern is definitely a firm favourite and we can’t wait to go back! Thank you!

The steak and service are both 5 star. But what sets this place aside is the passion and involvement from the owner and chef. He comes to your table, takes an interest in your evening, and is willing to share his experience and expertise in his craft. His steaks are comparable to the best in Melbourne. It's not hard to see why this place is a local institution. Will be going back again and again.

Could not have asked for a better first experience, we sat outside with our 7 month old pup and had the best time. Staff were amazing thank you to all who came to our table. The food was absolutely phenomenal I cannot give a higher praise. The only downside was that I didn't know about this place sooner 😍

Best ribeye I have ever had! The steak arrived perfectly cooked to my liking and tasted amazing with or without the pepper sauce. Meat was juicy, tender and flavourful melting in my mouth. The staff were super friendly and attentive making this local my favourite steakhouse.

I’ve lived nearby for quite some time and only recently had the chance to dine here. I’m no foodie but like most people, I imagine a good steak is easily recognised! I enjoyed the meal and environment, the menu is pricing but as with most things - you get what you pay for. A great option for a special dinner when you want to splash out!

I’ve been to the steakhouse about 5 times now and each time it is absolutely incredible. I don’t eat salad normally but this man and his incredible food I just have to. The steak speaks for itself. Mouth watering, smells delicious and the taste is just other worldly ! Emilio is the undisputed KING of steak. 🔥🔥

Great steaks but add $20-30 to the price guide listed on google and you’ll be closer to the mark for a 2-3 course set menu. Was extremely noisy on the night we were there with a large table of 12 making so much noise we could barely talk across the table with 4 of us. Would try again if there wasn’t a large booking detracting from a venue that prices itself as a premium experience. PS - the wine list could do with a bit more range at the top end although you can BYO for $16/bottle.

Well wasn’t this a little gem. Certainly proves that you don’t need a large establishment and dining space to deliver great quality food and hospitality. The staff were accommodating, polite and attentive. It felt like a family ran business where customer service drives business. The food speaks for itself. The dining space was intimate. Potentially a little loud but that may have also been the guests. Not the venue. The food……amazing. Ordering criteria of an entree and main or a main and dessert was ideal. The steak on display means you know it’s fresh. It was cooked just as requested. Served as a good portion size. Topped off with a lemonchello, home made. Certainly worth coming back.

I got a spider in my meal just now, and I was told that it's not from the pan because it was still moving as if it's a normal thing, I am a local you get a better deal somewhere else, this is unhygienic at best, illegal at most, never coming back 17/11/23 09:45 PM

Favourite place to dine in Ivanhoe and favourite steakhouse. Emilio’s steaks are second to none. Consistently flawless food and service every time.
