The Tjentište spomenik is an angular sculpture made of cement located in the Sutjeska National Park and is among the best known of the modernist WWII memorials constructed by the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. It was built in the 1970s to commemorate the Yugoslav Partisan soldiers who died during the Battle of Sutjeska, which took place between 15 May and 16 June 1943. Architects Miodrag Živković and Ranko Radović designed the monument that consists of two 19 metre-tall, fractal concrete sails. It’s quite impressive to witness in person, especially on a beautiful day in Sutjeska National Park.

They are currently renovating it but you can climb it and see it from above. For me it is impressive monumental architecture and also place of personal significance as some of my relatives died here in famous battle. It is very nice place with impressive monument.

My partner really wanted to go so we went. I was happy with not going and just seeing it from the road. I would still be happy with seeing it from a road.

Trapped within the ancient hourglass, each grain of sand remains eternally suspended, a testament to a moment frozen in time.

Beautiful area, even though it was raining. It was sobering to me as I thought of the battles, the war, the lives which were lost.

👍👍 Certainly one of the most beautiful places I’ve been in my life. The way those monuments are built to reflect the suffering and how heroic people were to save the world from Nazism. There’s a restaurant and a small shop to buy souvenirs. The road to arrive there is also beautiful.
