High end dining, lots of seafood options. Raw bar selection was strong, enjoyed our dishes. Consistently good plates, nothing that unusual or wildly exceptional, but the ingredients are high-quality and it is made with care. Night time was a bit dark in the dining area, some people had to use their cell phone flashlight to see the menu, seems a little unnecessary for it to be so dark! On Sunday night it was a very popular spot for group special events like birthdays or date night. Pricey bill but to be expected.

Ostra certainly provides for a phenomenal seafood dining experience. All fish/seafood focused dishes were delicious and our waiter ensured we had the right amount and advised us on great choices. Favorites from the tables were the salt-crusted Branzino (extremely tender), the sea bass tartare with black truffle, and the Ricotta Gnocchetti with lobster. I would recommend to approach it as shared dining so you can sample more flavors, sharing plates will be provided accordingly. Will definitely go again, the price is on the higher end but perfectly reasonable given the quality.

Exquisite food, service, ambiance, and seating. I would recommend to set aside at least 2.5 hours for dining if planning for a full dinner. Complimentary freshly baked loaf of bread with butter and olive oil for dipping. The raw yellowtail dish was amazingly fresh and accented with a strong lemon liquid that I found pleasing. The octopus appetizer was the weak item of what I ordered. The raw onions overwhelmed the flavors and the octopus itself was sliced thin, parts overcooked. Not the best octopus I've ever tasted. The special of the evening was the lamb with a green puree. The lamb was perfectly prepared, but there was a lengthy wait between the appetizer and the lamb, almost an hour. The server apologized profusely for the delay. The restaurant did not have mint sauce or jelly for the lamb. The snow egg dessert was unusual in texture and interesting to eat. I drank tap water and my glass was constantly refilled. Silverware was replaced with a fresh set after each dish change. Ostra is a special occasion restaurant or for those with very deep pockets. Elegant and professional staff.

A true Five Star experience. Ostra is a place to enjoy seafood, and to in indulge and stimulate sensations of taste, aroma and visual appeal. For example, I started with a seemingly simple order of snow peas vinegaret; that was my first revelation— I tasted the gentle vinegaret and as I munched, the slivered snow peas gradually released their sweetness and appeared as a distinctly pleasant green taste later. This occurred repeatedly with slight shifts in tastes as I munched other elements in the mix. Tonight’s dinner was not going to be something to rush through but to luxuriate. Next, my main course was Monkfish- it’s light and meaty with cohesive texture and delicate flavor, and it left plenty of room for a full bodied but not strongly flavored sauce which was a complex light brown mushroom savory packed with thinly sliced Shiitake. Complex because if you let it linger, the tastes appear at different places on the tongue- it’s what happens, and I can’t explain that. (This doesn’t happen at fast burger places no matter the quantity of their particular sauce.). I had the Chocolate Tort for dessert; it appeared to be nice but ordinary. WRONG. The tort’s crust was delicate and yielded with gentle pressure from my spoon to reveal inside an enveloping creamy chocolate. This had the same mouth filling sensation as the main course, but with chocolate. Japanese call it Unami when your tongue is fully immersed in flavors and I’ve never experienced this in sequential contrasting dimensions in one meal. The restaurant’s facility, tables and settings are extremely tidy and impeccable. Every member of the staff and management displayed genuine care and focus on me. They use a Team approach; things like keeping my glass full, or like changing table settings between courses which occurred frequently and unobtrusively. Margaret was my primary server and was delightfully efficient, and she was effective as an advisor as we discussed several options, but she also acted as the be Team’s Leader. This was fine dining and I loved it with emphasis on “Delicious!”

Ostra has been one of my favorite restaurants in Boston. The food is consistent and the service is always great. My favorite there is sea bream… always perfect. I would say they never have any specials… because I go there so often, i think it is about time for Ostra to change the menu a little bit by now. 😅

happy be well served. upscale restaurant claim themselves specialized in fish and seafood. i ordered the sea bream dish , that i have high expectation. The fish was completely debone, skin was grilled right. Light dressing lemony , olive oil topped with fresh herb. It was exceed expectation delicious. I also tried a piece of monk fish. It was meaty, savory mushroom. This became my favorite dish on the menu. The octopus dish is a dispointment, it was grill right with the charcoal taste. However, the lemon dressing and the sour onion combination is over-power the whole dish. It seems it is over salty too.

First off, the service was fantastic, actually the best i've ever experienced in my life! Attentive staff, water full every minute, split meals requests done exquisitely, new utensils after every dish, and comments on the food were taking seriously. To start off, the bread and butter is amazing. Super fresh and fragrant potato crisps on top, we took some home. Then we had Ricotta Gnocchetti & Octopus for starters. Gnocchetti was chewy and fragrant. Lobster pieces were delicious in this one. Octopus was very tender, never had such tender octopus. We had entrees Branzino and Paella. Branzino was soft and flavorful. Paella was a bit salty and overcooked, but the flavor of the rice was fantastic. We also noticed they used fresh herbs picked straight from the plant in all our dishes. You can find the herbs all by the fish they have on display. Ended with a dessert of chocolate torte. So chocolatey and great combo to pair with ice cream. 100% would come back and recommend to anyone visiting the area!

Elegant restaurant with a huge menu. Many varieties of fish from which to choose, plus high end steaks and poultry. Many different tantalizing appetizers and desserts also. I came with a large party (10). We all had a lovely evening with very attentive service. Looking forward to returning to try different menu items!

We went there for a birthday/ anniversary dinner for two. I guess I made a mistake picking a standard table because we were seated in between very large groups and so it was very loud and difficult to have a conversation the entire time. Cocktails were good, my favorite thing was the crispy oysters. I also loved the filet mignon it was one the best I've ever had. The Paella however, was not my favorite I found it very overwhelming. Overall, I would consider returning but maybe with different seating.

Lively restaurant with an incredible selection of seafood in Boston’s Back Bay. Started the meal off with some oysters, they have several daily options, usually one order comes with 6; pricing varies from $20-30. We also had the hamachi crudo which was excellent, as well as the shishito peppers. The peppers were good; however, slightly under-seasoned and needed to be cooked a bit more for better texture. For the main, we split the bream, branzino, and salmon. Out of the three, the bream was our favorite. Well cooked, excellent flavor, and nice accompaniments to the dish. We skipped dessert, but when your check arrives you’ll be offered a chocolate truffle. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Ostra and will be returning. While on the pricier side for Boston, the seafood was fresh and well worth the premium.

If you're looking for a top-notch seafood dining experience in Boston, look no further than Ostra. This elegant establishment boasts an impressive menu of fresh seafood, served in a sophisticated atmosphere that will leave you feeling like a true connoisseur. One of the standout features of Ostra is its bar, which is perfect for solo dining or a casual night out with friends. Whether you're looking for a perfectly crafted cocktail or a glass of wine to pair with your meal, the knowledgeable bartenders at Ostra will ensure that you find the perfect match. But let's not forget about the food! Ostra's prawns are a must-try - perfectly cooked, juicy and packed with flavor. The salt-crusted fish is another standout dish, served with a delectable sauce that perfectly complements the tender, flaky fish. And for those looking to indulge in a bit of luxury, the traditional caviar service is a true treat, featuring impeccably fresh caviar served with all the accoutrements. Overall, Ostra is a top-tier seafood restaurant that should not be missed. Whether you're dining solo at the bar or with a group of friends, you're sure to have a memorable experience at this Boston gem. 9.5/10

This was a beautiful restaurant with great atmosphere! The details in the decor are stunning with ocean design. The open kitchen is surrounded by small planters of fresh herbs and polished pans hanging above. The table setting is so impressive. The staff are friendly, professional and attentive. Definitely make a reservation beforehand. It was full on a normal Wednesday night. It did get loud as it filled up. The food was outstanding. The portions were excellent. Even the warm bread served with butter and olive oil was exceptional. I ordered steak in a seafood restaurant and it was cooked and presented better than a lot of steak houses I’ve eaten at. I would highly recommend everything about this little gem.

From the moment you walk into Ostra you are greeted with the aroma of great foods. Being here will guarantee your palate to be indulged in a sea of flavors. The staff is courteous and the atmosphere is happy and inviting. As an appetizer, we got the octopus. It was tender and very well seasoned. For the entree, we ordered the Salmon and the Bream. Both perfectly cooked and packed with many flavors. Every bite was better than the last one. The deserts were also outstanding. At the end, we got pieces of chocolate filled with caramel… what a delight.

As much as Boston has this image of "lobstah rolls" and "clam chowdah", Ostra opens your eyes and serves you (on a beautiful platter) what can be achieved in terms fine dinning in a seafood city. From the raw food selections to the chef's composition, the food is of amazing quality. So much so that the restaurant offers a gratitude section to the fishermen that help them in serving these quality ingredients. And all of this is complemented by staff that are highly attentive and friendly (shout-out to Katherin). Look, the food is amazing. You could pin the menu to a wall and throw a dart at it, order whatever it lands on, and you'll be stuffing your cheeks. However, if you'd like recommendations, let me start off by saying that if you do not order the Salt Crusted Branzino, you have wasted your time. This fish is cooked in a bed of salted crust that makes it sweat so that when it's served on a beautiful food runner table, you can watch the staff break it open like a coffin housing a mummy. What your left with is a fish whose flavors were not allowed to escape but rather collect and served with this amazing lemon and olive oil mixture that will allow you to speak to your ancestors. This thing is phenomenal and transcending. The second one I recommend is the Paella. Boston has some really good Spanish restaurants, but Ostra, whose focus is not Spanish food, offers one of the best paellas in the city. When I got the dish, I made sure to return a CLEAN pan because every grain of rice was gold. Not to mention that the seafood that comes with it is generous. Lastly - that Ricotta Gnocchetti you're considering? Yeah. Get that too. After you eat what's in that plate, ask for a straw and have the remaining delicious cream. Don't forget, Ostra is fine dinning. It's a place that has decorative dishes in place just to take them away as soon as they bring the complimentary bread (that thing is also ungodly delicious). The prices are high. But it's worth it. Treat yourself and celebrate whatever you have at this amazing restaurant.

Great ambience and amazing food in general. Service is wonderful. The octopus tastes too spicy and salty and bitter, but they did not charge us for this dish. Paella is my favorite one! First time trying the salt crusted branzino, so juicy and delicious! Will definitely revisit again

Food Except the paella, everything was phenomenal. They have three tartare, salmon, tuna and sea bass. We ordered both salmon and sea bass, since every other restaurant has tuna tartare. Both tartare were so delicious that we wish we order the tuna tartare as well. I absolutely loved their salmon tartare. The flavour and the texture were perfect. They also split the dish into two plates for us. Moving on to the first course, grilled octopus was good but a little too citrusy for me. The crispy oysters were addicting. Even though the paella was not the best I have ever had, it was well done. Everything else Our waiter was very nice and always had a big smile on his face. It made our evening even better. The service was impeccable as expected. However, I do feel that it is quite wasteful for all these high end restaurants to keep changing silverware between dishes. I understand they want to make sure the taste of one dish doesn’t contaminate another, but I think we should think about environmental friendly.

Upscale Mediterranean seafood restaurant that features delicate and flavorful dishes with stark yet modern accents that matches its opulence. With plethora of seafood restaurants in the Boston area, it has become difficult to emerge as a standout spot and maintain its fame for years. Yet, Ostra perfectly demonstrated the feasibility of becoming one. Prior to my visit, I was aware of its fame through celebrity’s posts on social media and compliments bestowed by some restaurant critics. Instead of focusing on traditional Boston seafood eats like clam chowders and lobster rolls, their menu offers an eclectic mix of seafood dishes that aren’t common in the area. Our dinner started with 4 different appetizers that comprises well fleet oysters, sea bass tartare, yellowfin tuna tartare, and alaskan king crab. Among these, the highlight was the sea bass tartare that had a hint of truffle that accentuated the fatty bits in the fish. The crisps that came with both of the tartare dishes also added nice texture and flavor that improved the overall experience. Before the entrées, we also tried the spaghetti and ricotta gnocchi. Gnocchi was served at an ideal temperature that gave it a good chewy and soft texture, and it provided a smooth transition into the entrée. Since this was my first visit, I couldn’t miss ordering their iconic salt crusted Branzino which came with an immaculate presentation. Although our server only showed the whole fish for a very brief period of time, the deboning show was still worth a watch. My only regret was ordering grilled sea bream which had overlapping flavor and texture as the Branzino. Paella Valenciana was also one of my favorites as it had countless variety of seafood on top of sticky rice that strengthened its flavors. Overall, a truly satisfying experience that comes with a hefty price tag. Nevertheless, this is a great restaurant for people who seek seafood dishes with innovative and modern touch.

Impeccable service and food! Nice place to celebrate. For appetizers we shared chilled king crab and the grilled octopus. Loved the grilled octopus but not so much the crab - could be just a personal taste. Both main dishes (monkfish and sea bream) were great and portions were pretty big.

We've tried half of the menu for the past few visits and there was no dish I didn't like. Everything is delicious. Service is outstanding. Workers there are friendly and knowledgeable. The main dinning room is big and it’s getting loud so if you want something more quite you should ask for the table next to the bar area.

Everything was top-notch. We started with the Tuna tar tar and the lobster gnocchetti. My wife had the black bass and I went with the seafood paella. Both were amazing. The service was the best we experience in Boston, Conner (?) took excellent care of us.

You wrote a review for Ostra One week ago 3.0 star rating7/4/2022 Upon entering, the place feels upscale and elegant. Started with a good random malbec into Carpaccio that was excellent, best I've had with layers of mushroom, truffle, melt in your mouth beef, to finish with a slight sweet lemon. Influenced by the carpaccio and waitress recommendation, I got lured In and went risk on for roasted local monkfish with Vermont mushrooms. Should have gone risk off for the paella with lobster, shrimp, octopus, squid, mussels, chorizo, and I forget what else. The monkfish was light and a bit dry, requiring swishes in the mushroom sauce. It wasn't bad, just kind of eh. I was done with it because I didn't want any more, not because the plate was cleared. The wife's filet was good but "not the best" as she said. It was a generally average filet, with a bit of a char that wouldn't be pleasing to all, and I thought whatever they drizzled on it was a bit sweet and didn't compliment the steak. At the same time the filet itself was rather bland. A better idea would be to do the filet with the Vermont mushroom stuff instead of the monkfish; the earthiness would have complimented her dish better than mine. Good service and upscale atmosphere complete with some weird background club music and loud conversations that filled the restaurant. Despite their dress code listed on their website and attempted elegance, people were still in jeans, t-shirts, and shorts in a loud restaurant. They tried.

Just had dinner at Ostra tonight, the food was spectacular. This has to be one of the nicest restaurants in Boston everything we had was great, the service was exceptional, the decor was nice, and the restaurant was packed. Highly recommend dining here!

Beautiful dining room with superb service and excellent selection of classic and reimagined seafood dishes. Some major standouts from the raw offerings and small dishes were the fried oysters, grilled octopus, truffled salmon crudo, mushroom risotto, and tuna. For the main course, the salt encrusted branzino is bit of a show stopper. They will show you the fish right out of the oven, then debone and filet for you at table side. It’s intended for two and really is perfectly seasoned and cooked. Our fish unfortunately still had some errant bones in it so be careful scarfing it’s down. For dessert, try the apple tart. Absolutely stunning wine selection that stands up to the best fine dining restaurants around. Service is friendly, attentive, and just exceptional. Unfortunately none of this comes cheap but it is well worth it. Spectacular experience.

Excellent service, amazing food, had a lovely evening at Ostra. My wife and I went in for our anniversary dinner, and we had a wonderful time here. The ambience was great, noise levels were very low probably since it was a Sunday evening. Our welcoming host and server, were polite and friendly. The food was awesome, we had the Exotic Mushroom Risotto as an appetizer, and the Grilled Faroe Island Salmon (well done) for main... cleaned them out. Loved the Warm Chocolate Torte for desserts. After dinner, a couple of our friends dropped in, so we hung out with them at the bar. The bartender was great too, lovely drinks and service.

3 star rating for a neutral rating, wasnt all bad but wasnt great , I'd still recommend people try it for themselves- We went to Ostra this past Jan 1 '22 The interior of the restaurant was absolutely beautiful, I really loved the look and feel of the restaurant and we were seated in a nice booth. Server took quite a bit to greet and take drink order and drinks took even longer- I've been in hospitality business for over 20yrs, so I understand if things can take longer than expected- that was ok Drinks arrive, we ordered apps and gave the rest of our order to our server. Dinner bread and oil was delicious and the assistant filling water was always readily available. Octopus was one of the apps and unfortunately it has too many onions for our liking but that is just our preference. We had ordered the tuna tartar as another app then pasta & paella for entress but unfortunately after the octopus everything came out together and our table wasn't big enough so thankfully they pushed together an adjoining table:) the courses came out way before we were ready for them and the paella for us was unedible. The rice was mushy and all the seafood had such a strong char to all the pieces, we couldn't eat it and left almost all of it. We were still very polite and really didn't complain as its not the servers fault, I think again it was an off night. The manager was very friendly and notified us that dessert was on them (for the timing of food) and the ice cream was very yummy. I would still recommend people try this for themselves but just be wary of some of the dishes we tried as they were misses for us.

5 stars for the exceptional service. But our table was pretty small and clumsy even for two people which disappointed us a bit given we went there to celebrate a special occasion. The food was mostly good but I was underwhelmed after having heard the rave reviews. The grilled octopus we ordered to share was good but I have had better. The dressing of olive oil and fennel was too salty for me. The same problem persisted with the salt crusted branzino we ordered. It's a pretty phenomenal looking dish, the fish was fresh but I think the dish is more of showstopper to watch than to eat. It had similar problem with excessive salt. But I loved the vegetables as an accompaniment with it. The next was the paella which was also had a good quantity of seafood, tasted good but I have had better paella. Ordered the snow egg for desert and it was a nice palate cleanser. I think ostra is more about the feel than the food, where food is great in parts but not extraordinary. The service is excellent but the tables are way too cramped. I think I will be back but only for a special occasion.

Wow. Decadent is the word that comes to mind. The saffron lobster fettuccine...the gnocchietti with lobster and chantrelles. Spectacular. Melted in my mouth. The desserts were equally amazing. The service, however, is most notable. Phenomenal.

This was an incredible dining experience. Very upscale. We were treated to great food, service and presentation. The staff was very friendly whether they were your server or not. It seemed like there were about 6 people actually serving us and it felt very welcoming. Good wines and cocktails. We were delighted by the lobster and there is plenty for 2 or even 3 if you want to order more samples of great food. We sampled the risotto, and beet salad. They are very food allergy accommodating as well.

It was beyond amazing. The staff was attentive and personable. The food was out of this world. Yes it is pricey but well worth every cent spent. They have magicians in that kitchen. The restaurant's decor was lovely and elegant. A wonderful setting for any special occasion. Their attention to detail from place setting and clearing the table between each course is fantastic. You can't go wrong there as long as you enjoy seafood. 😁 If I could give more stars I would.

We enjoyed an outdoor, family dinner for 6 at Ostra. Given Covid, it was such a treat to eat a superb meal outside with lovely service. The food was outstanding and appealed to the 13 year old and 75 year old. Service was very attentive and table was as comfortable as could be with a propane heater next to the table. Can’t wait to go back after Covid and enjoy the gorgeous indoor dining room.

Very nice and friendly staff. Also nice atmosphere. Only wished the food was able to measure up to that. Mediocre food for me sadly. Tuna tartare was good, above average, well balanced. I enjoyed it. Their kale salad, I honestly don’t know what the chef thought to serve it. It was basically kale leaves and parmigiana cheese with no seasoning. It was incredibly unpleasant to eat. Couldn’t eat it. The staff was asking if we wanted to deliver our message to the chef but we didn’t bother. The main course, sea bream was well cooked, crispy outside and moist inside, but slightly under seasoned. The most importantly, the fresh thyme overpowered the whole dish that my mouth was only filled with its perfume like taste. 😭 Parsley was ok. Again I’m not so sure what the chef was thinking. It certainly looks attractive to see fresh herbs available when you enter the restaurant but when we see they are not complimenting the food in the right way, it’s only disappointing. The chocolate cake was nice but not the ice cream. The texture was rather strange. I would prefer Haagen dazs’ smooth creamy ice cream. 🤣

Ostra has been the best dining experience I have had in Boston and is currently holds #1 of my favorite Boston restaurants. The food is absolutely spectacular. During Covid, I appreciated how Ostra remodeled the restaurant to include adequate spacing and plastic barriers. Food - 5/5 best food I have had in Boston Service - 5/5 exemplary Atmosphere - 5/5
