My friend and I traveled 3 hours to see a show at this place last night and we stayed at the Marriott next door. We were there for about 45 minutes & 5 minutes after the artist we paid and traveled to see went on security kicked us out for no reason, saying we were “too drunk” and needed to leave and they escorted us out. We were still on our first drink of the night. We were super confused because we literally just got there. They walked us out & took our wrist bands we had on. They wouldn’t let us leave until we gave them the wrist bands. Even though my friend and I stayed next door and if we were as drunk as this security women said we were she wouldn’t have had such an easy time kicking two young females who are drunk in the streets. We were “too drunk” to be in the venue but not drunk enough for security to wait outside to make sure we got somewhere safe. We are really upset and disappointed because this was our first show since the pandemic and it was one of our favorite artists. We will not be returning and I don’t recommend this place to anyone.

I am not the clubbing type but when I heard Cascada was coming to Royale I knew I had to go. I've never been to Royale before only to a few other clubs around Boston. I must say I had a really good experience. The club is spacious and the line was very fast when it started moving. There were plenty of bars to visit with little to no wait times. I did not feel like I was shoulder to shoulder with everyone else. Having a big space is definitely awesome. Cascada was amazing as well. I would definitely come back to Royale.

Bouncers will harass you about every detail of your life and everything you are wearing. Came with a group of fun-loving, innocent girls who felt completely harassed and violated after passing through their security. Ruined the night, and the club was empty until 2am. Would not recommend for anyone

Be careful not to dance or appear drunk at all. It's a nightclub with bars but they'll kick you out onto the street 5 minutes into the show you paid and traveled to see. I've been going to shows my entire life. I'll literally never come here again.

I have been here a few times for concerts and it's been an okay experience, but now I WILL NEVER GO BACK. During the show on 11/5/19, my best friend passed out. I received more kind offers and better help from the band member's merch table guy and people in the audience then I did from the staff. She is on medication for blood pressure and the lights from the show had started to bother her. When she started feeling lousy, we had exited the crowd and found a barstool for her to sit on between one of the bars and the merch area. When she passed out the immediate response was from an audience member who was a nurse and the merch guy. I even had another audience member offer assistance as she was CPR certified. After about a minute of commotion, we had three security guards and the nearby bartender approach us. As my friend was regaining consciousness the bartender began yelling in our faces. The music was loud, yes, but she was inches from my face and my friend who was barely conscious. She shouted that we needed to move my friend to a nearby couch. I said please give her a moment to get her bearings. The bartender then proceeded to tell us if we didn't get her off the floor that "security will have to take her out of here". What were they going to do? Carry a barely conscious girl outside and drop her on the sidewalk? I told her she needed to back off and stop yelling as, again, my friend was still barely conscious. She continued to talk over me and yell at me that she needed to be moved, completely disrespecting my friend’s well-being and my request. The security guards said nothing. After a solid minute of continued yelling over me, my friend finally let me know she wanted to get up. I helped a security guard move her to a nearby couch. Our belongings were on the stool behind us. I had to yell to one of the security guard following aimlessly behind us to please get our stuff so it wasn’t stolen. Of the five staff members involved in this entire incident only two were semi-decent. The man who helped me carry her offered to grab her water and juice. Another guard told us that the show would be over soon and we could sit and relax before heading out and that if we needed anything to grab a nearby staff member. The other guards and the bartender disappeared completely. Those guards, too, then disappeared and were not seen again, not even to check in on us. About fifteen minutes later the show ended. The guard standing beside the stage, who had not been present during the incident, approached us and told us we had to leave because they were going to start cleaning. I informed him my friend had passed out and another guard told us we were okay to sit and relax for a bit. We knew the venue was not closing as they were still selling merch and the band was coming out for a meet and greet. He stared at me blankly and I couldn’t figure out if he hadn’t heard me or just didn’t care. He again told us we couldn’t stay and had to leave. As I tried to express again what had happened my friend said let’s just go. As we got up to leave, the girls across from us tried to help by also explaining the situation. I unfortunately didn’t see or hear the guard’s response as my friend and I had begun to leave. The girls chased after us and apologized on behalf of the uncaring staff, something that’s not even in their control, and asked if they could help us exit the venue. This whole ordeal was disgraceful on the staff’s behalf. This venue needs to take time to properly train the staff members on how to handle a crisis situation. Not once did a single one of the staff members ask if she hit her head when she fell or if she required an ambulance. While she did not, this should have been the first question the staff asked. Instead, they asked only if she was diabetic, if she was on medication, and if she had been drinking. The bartender was rude and heartless and several of the security guards were careless and inattentive. Needless to say, I will never be attending an event at this venue ever again.

To start with, I wish I could post the video of the security lady here. I came with few friends (including one visiting from abroad). Me and one of my friends decided to check the downstairs area, we went there for a second and decided to go back with our friends in the upstairs area. When we did that the security lady was extremely rude saying we could not go up, not even to get our coats. She kept screaming “get out” and I do have the video of that. I firmly spoke to her saying that I at least needed my coat, so she finally decided to go there and get it. The only thing that upsets me is that they were letting people in - people in the same situation as me and my friend - but not us. I’m not sure if it was because of our accents or whatever, whichever was the case, we do not treat people like that! Never going back to this place and I wish they do not treat people like they did to us.

Being forced to separate from my group for completely unnecessary gendered lines at the door was stupid as füćk. $14 for house drinks filled to the brim with ice was ridiculous. Embarrassing for one of Boston’s “top nightclubs”. Would rather drive 3 hours to NYC than the 1 hour into Boston for this venue. Stayed for Cascada. Cannot imagine an instance where I’d return.

Do not purchase concert tickets here. The management is incompetent at ensuring people have blue wristbands and will remove people for any reason. If the bouncers and bartenders could logically communicate this then fine, but to admit that your bartender mistakenly served us without a blue wristband and to follow someone and pull them out is completely inappropriate. Refusing to let someone speak to a manager is completely inappropriate. Will follow up on this.

Went here for Oxxxymiron's concert on 10/13/2023. The concert itself was great, but the way management treated the performer and the concert-goers was awful. First, the gig started late due to technical difficulties (we later learned it was because management did not let Oxy use his fog machines). This is fine. What is not fine is a manager(?) came out to us in the line and made very rude jokes about how the artist is "having a bipolar crisis" and "is probably just learning his lines." The manager also told us that "he's so with us," and is "equally upset." Nobody was upset, so it was almost like he was trying to rile us up against the artist. As mentioned, the concert itself was very fun... except toward the end, around 9:30 PM, they messed with the lights during a song. After the song, they rudely cut the performer's mic, forcing him to skip the final song (and any encores), and say his goodbyes without a microphone. As you can imagine, this was a sour way to end the day, but here's the kicker: They only did this because the club's typical opening time is 10:00 PM, and they wanted all of us out of there to make way for their usual clientele. So, all of us that were already there, already spending money at the bar, were apparently just in the way and were made to leave in a hurry so the club could clean up. Very rude. I won't be coming back here, regardless of any other gigs they host.

First time in a night club in my life and it was the best experience ever. Staff was very nice and helpful of any people that couldn't control themselves. I came twice to the nightclub. Friday night for the discord event and Saturday night for PAX appreciation party hosted by the Royale. Bouncer or security that was standing near the washrooms was very friendly and the females working at the coat check were the best. I would recommend this night club for your events and with great DJs playing great music.

I had just left royale and was finding an Uber home. I was alone, as a woman, waiting for the car to pick me up. I was asked to leave the area and I graciously explained that as I woman I do not feel comfortable leaving the spot I was in because it’s very unsafe, especially the area I was in. The security guard told me that he does not care about that and that I have to leave the area nonetheless. I understand the circumstances but one woman standing alone waiting for an Uber is not a problem and to neglect my own saftey is a real problem with clubs like this. I was once roofied here as well. I thought that things have changed but apparently they have not. Do better.

Why are DJs taking bookings at royale when venues like Roadrunner exist. Tickets said doors at 10pm and we didn’t get let in until 10:45 in the rain. Promoter walked the line around 10:30 asking if anyone wanted to upgrade to VIP to get “early access” when we were literally there on time and didn’t need “early access” Big yikes, I’ll skip the show next time someone I want to see is booked at Royale.

It's probably one of bostons top night club. Its line are very long after dark.. so try to sneak in early. It definitely gets very crowded and the bars are everywhere and it's super loud inside. Their DJs are dope. Early bird tickets are free so book them on an app called DICE and enjoy your night. Hope you get lucky there. 🥳 🎉

All the bouncers are on a major power trip, turned a lot of people away. Kept asking everyone how much they had to drink including myself. End of the night they literally pushed people out of the venue and scream at people who are waiting for Ubers to leave. Ive never had another venue yell at people for standing outside. Cons: no ac, bouncers and security suck, overpriced drinks and 2 drink minimum for credit cards Pros: venue looks nice and good sound quality

This is definitely one of the best spots to get a table in Boston. The balcony section has a great view and even better privacy. It’s a reasonable price in comparison to other clubs in Boston. Highly recommend heading over here but try and go through a promoter for some solid deals. Sometimes service can be bad and the hostesses don’t really help out.

Appalling experience. Came here for a reggae concert (not club) and was denied entrance because we my husband was wearing very nice saldas (with a button down!). Super upsetting as we paid for VIP tickets and waited in line for hours only to be greeted by the rudest staff members who clearly thought they were bouncers for a nightclub. Tickets or website did not provide these limitations. Women were allowed sandals but not men. Women could walk in wearing nothing but a bra, but man couldn’t wear tank tops. We spent an hour in line. Staff could’ve informed everyone in line about their policies. Super upsetting.

Royale is a great nightclub with great interiors and decor. However it suffers from the same problem that most Boston clubs have. Their bouncers will go on a power trip at times. They will find any excuse not to let you in. I have definitely been on the receiving end of some discriminatory comments. Royale is a great option for a night out but be aware that the bouncers will be on watch!

I’ve seen a few concerts here and they’ve all had pretty good sound technicians and staff. Security is decent and they will search bags. I don’t know about all shows but some merchandise tables didn’t accept card/online payments so make sure to bring cash or else you’ll have to use the ATM which will incur a fee.

This is one of my fav spots in Boston. Cover is usually pretty reasonable. Seems like most of the bad reviews are from overly sensitive people that probs shouldn’t be at a night club to begin with. Pros: reasonable cover, usually good selection of EDM artists, big space Cons: some of the DJ’s aren’t that great so u gotta pick the good nights.

From someone who has frequented a lot of nightclubs, this nightclub is a total rip off. It is $25 or more for GA which is absolutely not worth it for their venue and accommodations. They said that on the 4th if july weekend they would have free entrance before 11 pm but they did not honor that as described previously. Highly would not recommend to anyone visiting the Boston area. You are better off paying at the grand, icon, Memoire etc.

This club has a safety issue in my experience. While the bouncers keep the interior safe, as soon as you are outside following the show, it is a free for all. I know people who have been assaulted outside this club, and if you look online you can find recent videos of a shooting occurring right outside. This club brings questionable people to what is already one of the more suspect areas of the city, and chaos tends to result. BPD should clamp down on this place as it is a menace and often takes them way too long to respond to incidents.

Basically every event I've attended here has been incredible. Boston's best concert venue, retro vibes are great. I've been many times and had no problems with security, bathrooms, coat check, or anything. Drinks are pricey but par for the course. There's a two drink minimum for credit card, and they have an ATM. That said, I definitely wouldn't go when there's not an event, kind of lackluster.

Concert Security is really bad. I was front row at a concert and some lady started assaulting me. It caused a scene but no security in sight. They also didn’t direct crowd surfers so people where just lost at the front of the stage. They weren’t wearing uniforms so I honestly had no clue if they even HAD security. Very disappointing :/

From the moment you enter the Royale in Boston you are met with Friendly but Effective Security. Past Security you are transported into the Glory days of Boston's Big Swing Era . Atop the stairs you will find Your ticket guards and your ticket window Clerk for your online purchases. Very helpful. Again Atop the stairs you are welcomed with Grand Doors opening into the venue room. Coats on the Right, Bar & bathrooms also. Walk in and have a seat or mingle amongst the crowd all around the venue. No bad seats here. And standing is always the chosen option. This place was electric, Ministry ,as well as The God Bombs and Chelsea Wolf completed my night. What a great Experience. Great Staff. Positive Experience 💯🅿right across the street.

Love the club once you’re inside, but it’s extremely annoying how the website says open 10pm-2am, yet the 10+ times I’ve gone, I’ve waited outside in line while the bouncers laugh and chat together until at least 10:30-10:45 before they even started letting anyone inside. Usually by that point I’ve moved on to another bar/club.

I’ve been here for two concerts and have had a great time at both. The venue is small enough that you can see from pretty much anywhere, and the speakers are loud enough to be immersive without being aggressive or painful. I’ve only gotten one drink - a gin and tonic - and didn’t think it was worth the cost.

Cannot speak to the nightlife but as a live music venue of its size in Boston this place is it!! Love the regal kind of vibe throughout the space - it’s huge and really plays to the drama of a performance. There are plenty of balconies you can peer over or seated spaces you can curl up in to take in the atmosphere. Whenever an artist I love is booked at Royale I’m definitely not mad to make the trek from CT.

A bit expensive for the music played inside. It is mostly crowded, but people inside are correct, I would say. Unfortunately, it is not that easy to get a drink since there is a long queue which can take 10–15 minutes until you can finally order your drink. The good point is that there are several security agents who are helping you if needed. 3 stars that could be 4 stars without the queue for alcohol.

I went there twice this summer it was free on Saturdays. In general it was good considering they didn’t have big name DJs. I enjoyed myself. Definitely different from the grand interns of facility and the crowd. After all it’s a much older place. I liked it was a little over 11pm but they still let me and my friends in for free.

I’ve been here for multiple events and while most staff you interact with are courteous and polite, the bouncers are extremely rude. They’d harass you for just standing on the sidewalk near the club waiting for your cab and be very rude and loud if you try to reason. The bouncers really ruined our night.

Back in October, my fiancé and I had the pleasure of seeing IDLES at this lovely little venue. Our experience was absolutely exemplary! Bars were conveniently located, drinks were reasonably priced, bathroom was clean, coat check was awesome, sound was perfectly balanced. But the most notable part of our evening (outside of the awesome show we saw) was the security staff. These folks were awesome! They went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a safe experience without sacrificing any of the riotous energy that comes with a punk show. They were gently pulling down crowd surfers at the barrier, checking them to make sure they were ok, then sending them off to get back into the crowd. I even saw a security guard offering some bottled water to a patron that looked a little overheated. I know this is a weird thing to geek out about, but it really was the coolest experience I’ve ever had with concert security. I would highly recommend catching a show at this venue. I really hope IDLES are able to swing by here again on their next US tour, because I would absolutely love to have another experience like that!

Sound and lighting tech absolutely screwed up a ton of cues during 2022 dragula Halloween show. I was on the second floor watching them and they were joking around with each other, not focused on the stage and looking at their phones. Every show I have been to since has poorly balanced sound so it's no surprise that certain shows have decided to have their bookings elsewhere.

My first time in Boston was a hoot, largely thanks to the Royale. It is a gorgeous venue with historic charm, great sound and decent lines of sight. I especially liked the slightly raised area of the floor near the soundboard. Although the balcony was closed to GA for the event we attended, I suspect that would be a marvelous vantage point as well. Security was friendly (for Boston lol), and the barstaff was even better. Upon asking for water, they happily gave me a cup of water (instead of forcing me to buy me a $5 bottle of water w no lid, as they do in other venues), and that made my heart sing. Thanks, Boston - I'll be back!

I've been not for the club, but for a concert thus everything was cleared out. There was only standing room on the lower level with the exception of one or two seats in the back. Up top where I happened to find myself had more seating. Honestly I've been to better venues, but it was okay. Drinks were pricey and they actually charged me a dollar more looking back at my statement a few days ago. They have the capability of having good lighting.

Awesome place to see a show! I took a lot of photos so you can get the "vibe" of the concert venue called "the Bowery". It is upstairs and I think there is a dance-club below, I remember going there in the 90's-2000's and it was the "ROXY". There is no sign out front so if you park in the garage that is after the Wang & Shubert and walk directly across the street there is a bridal shop on the left and the Royale is the next door over. There was a level of stairs to go up and then there was a large 1st floor "dancefloor/standing room only" area, bars everywhere so no waiting for a drink, seating all around, coat check (super nice!), then when you go to the upper level there are intimate seating areas for groups of people that have direct eye-line to the show when it starts as well as banquettes, tables and couches. There are cool elements all over in an art deco theme with silver statues, mirrors, couches all over, as mentioned before a bar like every 20 feet (on the upper level as well). I was super impressed with the atmosphere because we only paid $20 bucks so i was picturing sticky floors, raggedy seating, if any and gross bathrooms as well as long lines at the bar but this place knows how to put on a show and do it RIGHT. All the people captured in the photos gave their consent to be on this website. If you are handicapped I'm not sure this is the place for you but you could call and check.

The first time I drove to Boston by myself was to see a reunited Concrete Blonde at the Royale. It was such a beautiful experience, and it empowered me to do this more often because the venue staff made it safe to do so. Plus, strong drinks, clean bathrooms, and not a bad seat in the house.

Very nice place. I like their serious approach to our safety and it is always good to be safe than sorry.

I went to see the Dandy Warhols on Tuesday. The venue is fine, and it was great to see the band. But the sound system was terrible. I could barely hear the band's vocals throughout the show, which was very disappointing. I'm not sure why the sound guys didn't notice and make adjustments.

The audio quality and mixing were awful at the concert I attended here. I went to see a wonderful band and could barely hear the vocals--the instruments completely drowned out the voices. It was also so loud that it distorted the music. Except for that, the place is okay, but I'll never go back. Also, beware of the Noble app for ordering drinks. It was actually cheaper at the cash bar, even with the $2 discount they handed out for drinks ordered through the Noble app.

Boston’s biggest nightclub. This place is an old theater that was converted into a nightclub. I’ve been here a dozen times and I’ve never left disappointed.

This place has so much potential. It's beautifully decorated and furnished as a club and quite clean. I wasn't impressed with staff customer service. Security itself seems pretty lax as they don't check people for weapons. The sound quality, as others have said, is pretty poor. From my experience, it's because the music was simply too loud; you can't hear the person next to you screaming at the top of your lungs. The music itself seemed pretty basic; top 40 songs with a minor spin to them. Nothing really exciting. It was supposed to be a major holiday event and it just didn't feel like anything out of the ordinary. Bathrooms were lacking paper towels and the hand dryer machines had indifferent air pressure. I love how it's very LGBTQ friendly, but I got the sense that people who don't identify as such are treated with less warmth by bartenders. People definitely showed up in attire that had no place in a nice night club like this. Further, I'm not impressed with the quality of drinks at this bar. They didn't serve 2 common beer brands that are a top favorite among drinkers and the mixed drink I ordered was tastelessly overpowering. It just tasted like cough medicine. Overall, I'm disappointed. This venue has so much potential and an excellent gimmick, but can't seem to fully embrace it. Not likely to return.

It’s a good place but pretty expensive! The music is great and the weekend is lit.

Came in from out of town and this place, and the owner, are incredible. The owner was really concerned about everyone having the best time. And the DJ they had performing on Saturday night was BOMB AF. I love to dance, but my husband is more reserved and he STILL talks about how much fun we had on that night. If you’re thinking about it, stop. And just go.

Nice and spacious venue. Not the safest venue since the bartenders give you an attitude about serving water, even when ordering drinks with a high tip rate. Definitely could care less people's health and safety.

This club is amazing on weekends and occasionally has some awesome music shows. Can’t ask for a better place for a fun vibe.

Place is great , people who leave bad reviews about the security have 8/10 times been completely disrespectful to them in one way or another and don’t know how to act when someone returns the energy back to them, seen it first hand so many times don’t listen to the h8rs , never had a bad time here , just be respectful to the staff and you have nothing to worry about. Still one of the better clubs in boston and a lot cheaper than the grand 🤷🏼‍♂️

Was there to see KREAM perform and it was alright. Speakers seem old and don’t fill the entire room. Balcony is nice. It was pretty dirty but that’s to be expected.

Tickets stated doors opened at 10. Showed up at that time and was told a convention was still going on and they were running late and to come back in 30 minutes. Came back in 30 minutes to a line that resembled a ride to six flags. Waited an additional hour in the cold for entry (by the this time it was 11:30pm), when I had to tap out because I was going to freeze to death waiting for entry. Walked by one of the bouncers who admitted they were still not ready to open yet. By this time Royale was over 1 1/2 hours late to open. I get things happen but that being this late is unacceptable. Btw, this was to see Paul Van Dyk, which I probably will never get another opportunity to see again. Not cool.

Nice venue for a concert but the drinks are outrageously pricey!

Great place, HOWEVER, some specific group of people need to shower and put deodorant before hitting the dance floor, and everyone knows who I’m talking about!!

I just know the $25 for cover fees aren’t going towards hiring a good DJ. First time in my life sitting in a club. So much security for what? I felt like i still got robbed that night with that atrocious music.

Inside was alright and the drinks were good, but our bouncer made my friend leave her personal items outside on the street despite us offering to pay for coatcheck. Also, another bouncer for another line, directed us to coat check for the items and the website says so as well, but apparently our bouncer thought having our items get stolen off the street was better??? Losing $70 worth of personal items due to one bouncer having a vendetta or something, was enough to make the entire night not worth it. Also not to mention the night ended early because the fire alarms went off in the club earlier in the evening and everyone left, I don’t think any of us are going to return after having our night ruined and wasted.
