I had lunch here with my friend today. The long line outside seems promising. Got in after an hour and 15 minutes. High hopes. Oysters are decent. Fresh enough. I had a lobster roll and my friend had a fried oyster burgers. Both are jaw-droppingly terrible. My friend’s burger is tough and dry. My lobster roll has absolutely no flavours. I thought I had COVID and lost my palate. But I could taste the fries. The fries are great and definitely the highlight of my meal. The urchin toast is equally bad. Urchin all melted on the toast with no texture and flavours. This joint is definitely over-hyped and overpriced. Doesn’t deserve the hour long line up.

Neptune Oyster. Oh, yes. The afternoon I visited was a weekday so the wait was only 45 minutes. The johnny cake with bluefish and caviar is a must order item. Delicious! The flavors! The lobster roll was fresh, but not special-tasting. Razor clams were supremely fresh and magnificent. Loved the taste. The oysters were very fresh and an employee explained where each oyster was from. The service was A+ from all employees. Servers made sure I was taken care of and the water glass was continually filled. Small interior of restaurant. Service is quick and friendly so the turnaround time is frequent. And they take American Express.

Came here on a whim, everything around seemed to need a reservation or had a really really long wait. We we're lucky enough to not have to wait more than 30min! We sat down, looked at the menu and still struggled to pick something from their short menu. Everything seemed so good. We ended up ordering the lobster roll, octopus, and scallops. The lobster roll was big and packed with lobster meat. It was just the lobster meat, no mayo or any other condiments. The bun was buttered and toasted. Very great! The octopus leg was a bit small but satisfied the craving. It had great flavor and paired amazingly with the sauces and cauliflower. The scallops were big, tasty, and went so well with everything else in that dish! Everything ordered was very good. Wish the bill was a bit friendlier though. Great service and nice ambiance. Looking forward to come in on a Monday for their lobster pasta. They have a different menu item available on different days of the week.

I was really really really pleased to decide to visit here. I had to wait for some time but it was totally worth of it. The oysters are very fresh, juicy and delicious. And the foods which I ordered are yummy too and went well with my drink. Surely the service was very satisfactory. My family had a great time in here. I'll definitely try again next time.

Hands down to the best raw oysters. I love their little menu showing different types of oysters. I wished this place was bigger. Came here at 7pm, no wait-list accepted. Came here again early in the morning 30 minutes before it opens there was already a long line, put my name down for the wait-list, 1.5hours wait, but it' was worth the wait.

Amazing in its consistency and always worth the wait. What you see is what you get. Fresh ingredients treated with respect and a packed restaurant full of energy. Seared octopus, freshly shucked oysters and lobsters rolls are all highlights. It isn’t the best seafood on the planet, but it will also never disappoint. Earns every star the hard way.

Neptune oyster is wonderful. Staff are friendly and courteous, committed to giving diners a great experience. The razor clam appetizer was amazing as was the hot buttered lobster roll. Also had a few things from the raw bar (oyster and scallops) which are great to try based on your preference. Wine selection was good as well. The only downside is the wait, about an hour and 15 minutes on a Friday evening. You just have to stand outside in line and commit. Definitely worth it though! Inside is pretty squished together so I wouldn’t say it’s great for large groups at busy times.

This is probably the best lobster roll I have ever had! It was based off the market price we paid around $33. I shared with my friend, which was nice Bc I still had room for oysters and appetizers! The space is small and there's a long line so either go super early or go out your name down early. Waitress we had was very helpful and nice Will come here again!

I haven't been to Neptune in many years and it's pretty much how I remember it. It's quite good - standard upscale-y northeastern seafood restaurant with a solid raw bar and good entrees. It's very similar to Eventide and similar kinds of restaurants in a lot of ways, including the cult following. I do think it's worth 5 stars on food alone but definitely overhyped a lot. Your meal will likely be very good but certainly won't be life changing, and I definitely wouldn't wait longer than an hour. The inside is cramped and if you're in a party of 2, you're likely going to be seated with another party of 2 at a 4 person table. Definitely not date night atmosphere. Last time we stopped by for weekday lunch at about noon and waited 35 minutes for 2 people. The johnnycakes that everyone raves about are good but sort of jarring. They taste exactly like how they sound - smoked fish and caviar on top of (very good) sweet pancakes. If it doesn't sound good to you in your head, I would avoid getting them. Also this isn't a big deal but our oysters came in the middle of the meal instead of first. Just thought that was a little weird - I would have preferred the raw bar stuff first.

Delicious - we got oysters, lobster roll (hot, buttered) with side salad, cioppino, and a johnny cake. Good wine too. Everything was fresh and exactly what I wanted to satisfy my East Coast seafood cravings. I'd never had a johnny cake before and was a little skeptical of a pancake with fish, but it was really good and topped off our meal perfectly. It's tiny inside, but the ambiance is cute. Definitely wouldn't try to go with more than 4 people though (there only seemed like one table that could accommodate a party that size). Worth the ~35 min wait for 2.

In a word - outstanding. I waited in line for about 30 minutes and it was worth waiting much longer! They have outstanding selection of local oysters that you can only find in this region. And they were perfectly shucked. I mean PERFECTLY shucked. (Rare, even for good oyster places) The selection of local oysters was augmented by oysters from the northeast and Canada. The food was incredible. Such a thoughtful menu of classics along side stuff that seafood purists will love (example: anchovy cocktail) I had the sea bass and it was out of this world. Cooked in butter wine sauce with pork belly and Al dente fresh vegetable. Yum. The wine list is just as good. Hard to find stuff from Burgundy. I would come here just for the wine. This is my new favorite place in Boston. Just be prepared for a wait. It will be worth it.

Located in north end Italian town of Boston . Parking are very limited and hard to find. Expect a long wait at least up to an hour . It will be worth your wait once you sat down . You can see all the fresh oysters being shuck by the window from outside . We were seated at the bar and our bartender/server name was Jess and she’s was super nice and detail oriented. She recommended us the special of day crudo which was delicious and so fresh . We had varieties of fresh clams and oysters, the lobster roll which was mediocre , scalllops , razor clams casino , spainish octopus . Everything was excellent and satisfactory.

We were visiting from LA and came here for the oysters. They had a great selection, and all were delicious. On top of a whole bunch of oysters, we also got the Scallop Crudo and a few raw clams, which were also fantastic. The wait of course is a different story. We got there at 10:30 AM on a Sunday (they open at 11:00 AM) and there were already about 12 people ahead of us. We were able to get seated right as they opened since they have room for about 35-40 people in there, but if you miss that first seating it might be a while. I would suggest anyone that wants to try it to do what we did. The 30 minute wait before opening wasn't too bad at all and absolutely worth it.

Neptune is so overrated. Oysters running for $3-4 a piece when you can easily get bigger, juicier, delicious oysters elsewhere for $1. Pasta dishes are probably above average in terms of taste and ingredients, but also overpriced. Their famous Johnny Cake sounds luxurious in theory, but is simply a borderline-bland and over buttered cake with ambiguous texture and flavor. Also tried the seafood stew and lobster pasta with truffle shavings - both also sound great in theory but were… meh, especially given the price point. Weren’t bad options by any means and probably the best things on the menu all things considered. However, not sure where they get their truffles but they were a pricey addition for no fragrance or flavor whatsoever. Pasta itself - again, not much flavor profile going on aside from butter. The outdoor seating on a busy, heavily trafficked sidewalk isn’t anything special and I’m not entirely sure they have AC in the jam packed indoor seating. Given how busy this place usually is, it’s loud and difficult to interact with the servers, who always seem to be overwhelmed. You’re better off trying one of the other restos in North End for a better experience and selection of menu items.

There is nothing that taste okay. Every dish tastes fantastic! Some advices and profiles for the oyster that we had tried: Kumamoto: a really small type of oyster, but sweet like a hell! if size doesn't matter to you, try this! Pocomo Meadow: I would say it was the best in overall, it got a creamy buttery taste with considerable size with great texture and layers. If you budget is limited, I would say try island Creek. The price is relatively low, it also got some creamy taste, but not as rich as Pocomo meadow. But I don't think there is any will disappointed you!

This is a restaurant to try as a tourist. As a local...pretty much not recommended. Service was great. Sadly, food hadn't lived up to the expectations. Clam chowder was tasty, but lacked the clams and had slightly undercooked potatos. It is also quite thin, and not thick as one might expect. Seafood is fine. As long as seafood is sourced well, it isn't hard to make the raw bar shine. However, the downside we had was the tuna poke dish we ordered. It was super fishy. Thankfully, the server was attentive and helpful in removing the said order of the final bill. Just with the long 1.25 hr wait, I had expected greater. Just fell a bit short in expectation and quite underwhelming.

Best food of my trip!!!!! Worth the wait (only place in Boston we had to wait in line) I had the striped bass and this was my first time eating oysters even though I'm from FL. EVERYTHING was so delicious. I wish I could rate it higher than 5 stars!!!

The lobster rolls are worth the wait! I get that the oysters can be found slightly cheaper around the area, but the whole food experience is worth it. Generous portions at market prices make for a great time.

The Legendary Neptunes did not disappoint. Fresh raw bar and their lobster rolls are fantastic. Piles of buttered lobster chunks on their roll, generous portion of their crispy fries. Ordered a few dozen of their raw oyster selection. The line and wait time was long but definitely worth the wait. Try to get there before opening to get a place in line. On busier days, expect a 1-3 hour wait time as space inside is very limited. We shared a table with another group and had a fantastic time.

Not worth the wait! The clam chowder was lackluster, with not on an iota of the salt pork and thyme soup base they claimed to make the chowder with. It was purely water that I could taste. I kid you not there was literally 4 pieces of malformed potato and some bits of clam in my plate (not much of a bowl really). I commend the waitress for her honesty, confiding to me that even she did not like the chowder at the restaurant. She instead recommended me to visit the Sail Loft Restaurant that's just a five-minute walk away at the harbor, for a hearty and "thick" clam chowder, especially during a cold, windy and rainy day like the day I visited. This place is more of a ritzy, tourist-oriented restaurant. I only decided to visit it because all the local food magazines recommended it, but I would concede that maybe it was perhaps just for the oysters.

You need to know we almost came back for a second visit :o The oyster selection from the raw bar had good variety from the east coast - briny, sweet and all that. Majority being medium size. We ranked all the east coast ones and had a few 8s, 9s and 10/10s. Pricing was also very fair, all under $4ea at the time. Side note, the cocktail sauce and mignonette tasted amazing. We tried the warm lobster roll instead of the cold and it was exactly as imagined.. savoury, buttered lobster exploding out the warm toasted bun with minimal seasonings. Good balance between claw vs tail/other meat. Delicious fries as a side (which we prefer over chips from other places). Advice: ask your server their favs on the oyster menu and it’ll likely be your favs too (same happened at other restaurants). Expect a line, but it moves quickly and this place is well worth the wait. Seems ridiculous to visit the same restaurant twice in one weekend trip to Boston but we had such a great experience that we seriously considered it. A must dining experience for anyone visiting the city.

The lobster roll was good and came with a big portion of fries but it was almost $40 The oysters were good too but the highlight was the mussels with nduja. The line was very long and slow, we waited over an hour to sit at the bar. I personally wouldn’t wait in line again but I’m glad I finally tried this place.

Must try lobster roll and oysters! It's a small restaurant so wait is a must and they do not take reservations. I came to dine as a single person so I waited 5 minutes before I was seated on a weekday dinner time. I ordered 3 fresh oysters and a warm lobster roll with salad. The oysters were super fresh and the taste description for each oyster fit perfectly described what I tasted for each. The lobster roll was filled with warm lobster bits. It was not overwhelmed with butter and was lightly boiled to give the tenderness. The roll was lightly buttered to give the crisp. It was the perfect lobster roll that I wanted. Service can be a bit slow but understandable as it's a popular place.

Excellent lobster rolls with hot butter. It's a must try. Oysters are excellent as well. Great service but with very limited seating. So go early and line up. It is absolutely worth the wait.

Really enjoyable. My first taste of lobster roll and didn't disappoint! I queued for about 15 or so minutes to get in at 1245ish on a Saturday lunchtime. Very friendly service and the food was great.

We got the 3 things I think were absolutely essential to try here: oysters, lobster roll, and johnnycakes. The oysters were amazing. I liked the ones with medium salt and a clear finish. We ordered one of the funkier ones and I didn’t like it quite as much. The lobster roll was 10 dollars more than Pauli’s next door but I’d say it was worth it. Slightly fresher lobster meat and the bread was highly elevated. The fries were a good addition too. The Johnny cakes though… wow. Extreme flavor bomb from the first bite. To be honest I’ve never heard of one before but the caviar, pate, and the syrup just made for such a wonderful flavor. I highly highly recommend ordering that. The best thing I had in Boston during my time here absolutely. Regarding getting into this restaurant, lining up at 10:30 is the move. I don’t think waiting here for 1.5 hours is worth it.

Came here for oysters and the lobster roll- which were fresh and really delicious! However, the star of the night for me were the razor clams, which were spicy, sour and umami, and really packed a punch. The seafood paella was good but the least impressive out of all the dishes we ordered. Alcohol was very expensive - $19 for a small glass of beer from the tap so I wouldn’t recommend it. Overall a very delightful dining experience despite the long queue in the cold.

Tried this restaurant for the 1st time. Went for lunch on a Tuesday around 1 pm and there was a line of about 10 people at door. They don't accept reservations, first come first serve. We got a seat at the bar after a 20-minute wait. So worth it. The oysters were delicious with a quite a few choices. I also tried the Johnnycake, it was so good. For my entree, I had the striped bass that was cooked to perfection. Julian was the bartender who was awesome. There is never a slow period for this place. Can't wait to go back.

A good place to have your first taste of lobster in Boston. We were there at 230pm before the line started around 4pm. The place is small and we were seated st the bar counter. The server was friendly and excellent in her service. We had 2 each of the different type of oysters and we would recommend Neptune pearl @2.90 Holbrook @3.40 Cuttyhunk @3.80 They are Medium size Sweet butter finish fresh oysters. Lobster spaghetti $43 and lobster Cioppino $48 are flavorful and loaded with lobster meat are highly recommended. The portion is good for 2 to 3 to share (family style).

Me and my husband decided to go for our anniversary for brunch. Luckily we came early because the line builds up before they open even on a week day! The restaurant was very tight and small so be prepared. The prices were reasonable for the amazing quality of the oysters! We decided to go a little crazy and order all the different types of oysters and caviar. I highly recommend trying the caviar! It was divine mixed with the crème fraîche! 10/10 would go back and recommend!!

The food and service are fantastic. The oysters tasted like they were just plucked out of the ocean. The Johnny cake is amazing. It is so delicious with the honey and butter. The addition of roe and bluefish is innovative and adds complexity to what otherwise would only be yummy comfort food. The uni buccatini is worth dining on Tuesday when it is on the menu.

Got the lobster roll with a side salad and it was awesome. The roll was buttery and fluffy and the lobster was tasty and fresh. They don’t skimp on portions here and the service is great. It’s a small space so it’s no wonder that there’s a long line at times

  • 4/5 G S (. 2 years ago on Google
In ever popular Neptune Oyster, it took us 45 minutes to get a seat upon arriving after 2pm on a Friday afternoon . Warm $34 lobster roll was over-stuffed with fresh lobster . The oysters were about $3 a piece ranging from medium to large and were truly fresh and delicious. The clam-chowder was more on the watery side and was my least favorite. I wish they’d take reservations but if you leave your name and number, you can walk about North End until they call you. Lots of wine choices also beer. Servers were friendly but due to sheer volume, orders may take time to arrive so expect not to have a quick meal. Fresh seafood can’t be beat!

  • 5/5 Richard T. 2 years ago on Google
***there is always a line so arrive early *** Great food and service and massive portions. The staff works amazingly well together with all of the servers working together for each table. The lobster rolls are massive and both the hot and cold options are delicious.
