The service was decent, the grilled swordfish was very dry and it was barely worth eating, my friends food wasn’t good either. It may be possible it wasn’t to our taste but not a single person enjoyed their meal. It wasn’t worth the money whatsoever.

The place look nice and give the impression of a good restaurant. The menu is simple and not a large choice. Very selective. The main courses are large enough so we didn't took appetizers. I took swordfish that was cook over and very spicy. Swordfish fish when it is overcooked become very dry, thats why the waiter should ask how they want it cooked. They were kind enough to change and bring me a medium, just perfectly cooked without all the spices. But the most important thing is that although they have plenty of stuff, the service is slow. Time that we wait out main courses was too long. Even the desert took so long to get it. Sorry, I would like to rate higher but the service and waiting time should be improved.

I'm sad to say this restaurant was average at best and did not come close to meeting my expectations for great food in the South End. Went for dinner on a Sunday night and it was very quiet in the restaurant but our lobster raviolo was cold when it arrived at the table. The gnocchi was good but also pretty average. My partner really enjoyed the Shima Ahi. Will not go back here but glad we gave it a shot. I don't think its worth the prices. Overall, wouldnt recommend this restaurant. If you want exceptional Italian food in the South End, you cant beat Coppa and SRV.

Good food my first visit. Crudo is steller and seafood to die for. This time tried tasting menu. I would avoid tasting menu. Wines aren't great. Fish bone in my Crudo... They served really super dry pork.... Chicken I could understand but how do you mess up pork? Stick to seafood and main menu and you'll be fine.

Bar Mezzana is one incredible dining experience in the south end. The menu is small but not too small, and they back it up with some delicious food. Seriously, you can’t order the wrong thing when you come here. They also change up their menu which I like so you get to try new delicious concoctions. We started with the Tuna crudo, the focaccia with the eggplant dip, and the soft shell crab. They were all delicious and would easily order it all again! For entrees, I got the bolognese and my friends got the gnocchi and chicken under a brick. Everything was super delicious and excellent portions considering the prices - I took half home! Their cocktails are also really yummy , I tried both the Things You Can’t Hide and the Maximilian Affair. The latter was a bit heavier and smokier, but the first one was super light and citrusy. If you have to choose one, go for the first! They also serve good aperol sprits and gimlets! Don’t miss this spot for fine Italian dining - you won’t regret it. Amazing Italian food. Almost everything is made fresh daily. The drinks are amazing and well worth it to just grab a couple. The bar menu is nice and on the cheaper end to just hang out and grab a quick bite.

Italian food is delicious. We loved the pasta, mozzarella, wine. Service was quick. Only issue we had was food was salty, my father has tolerance, waiter offered re cooking but we didn't have time. We really appreciated that. Even I needed water after eating.

Service was wonderful and cocktails and wine list amazing!! Unfortunately the pasta was just ok. It was very under seasoned, had to add salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes & I don’t like salty food. I got the black truffle fettuccine and the black truffle did not have any flavor at all. Could have just been any old mushroom shaved on top. A bit disappointed for the price and expectation.

They rushed us in and out. The food was mediocre. They brought out the wrong meals. My wife's wine pour for her second glass of wine was so small as to be ridiculous. When this was pointed out to the server, an additional thimble-sized amount was added. After noticing that part of the wine bottle wrapping was in the glass. Won't be back!

Amazing service!! The hosts, bartenders, and servers were all incredible my party had some trouble figuring out what to order because it was our first time and the menu descriptions aren't exactly thorough. Our server was super patient as we relied multiple wines and asked about pretty much every entree. When we finally decided the food was AMAZING. We loved everything we got. Too bad I don't live in boston because I could go here again and again.

Came here for drinks with a work group, and they were able to accommodate a group of 12 on short notice. We didn't have food but the service, cocktails, and beer selection were all terrific.

Do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant - the food is absolutely delicious. From the starter to the dessert the quality and taste of everything was outstanding. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming, and the staff are extremely knowledgable and make great recommendations.

One of the best meals I’ve had all year, I would HIGHLY recommend their tasting menu (called something like family menu). Excellent service, high quality food and well thought out dishes. Couldn’t ask for a better dinner in Boston! Would definitely come back.

One of my favorite Italian restaurants in the city. I ordered their Paccheri, which is their lobster pasta dish and affogato for dessert. Amazing food and great service and will definitely go again!

The lobster pasta is absolutely fantastic! Pasta cooked perfectly al dente, plenty of lobster that was incredibly fresh and tender, and the sauce perfectly complemented the lobster without being too salty or overwhelming. We also got a burrata appetizer (bread ordered separately) which was also delicious. Fast service, restaurant is quite large and not too loud even at dinner rush.

Contemporary Italian place with average appetizers and great entrées. Recently took a visit on a Friday night where we found the place quite empty. We were initially impressed with their intimate atmosphere and prompt and professional service. However, the first few dishes were a bit disappointing. Shima aji crudo had an overpowering citrus flavor that shadowed the rich fattiness of the fish. Similarly, grilled octopus plate had an overwhelming amount of parsley that ruined the overall balance of flavors. Burrata came in a tiny plate, but honey, fried rosemary, and roasted chestnut toppings gave it a nice aroma and flavor that we liked. Although the transition into the pasta and the entrées weren't as smooth as we hoped, the quality of the dishes that came afterwards was amazing. Paccheri came with a hefty price tag, but the subtle lobster flavor was a good pairing with the green onions and the chili flakes. My favorite was the duck confit agnolotti which had a good amount of sweetness and acidity from the fig and the balsamic glaze. Chicken under a brick was also extremely tender, and the nutty toppings and creamy polenta were nice sides to accompany it with. Overall, Bar Mezzana wasn't one of the best contemporary Italian restaurants I've been to in Boston, but I would highly recommend trying their pastas and entrées.

If the bolognese is an indicator of how good an Italian restaurant is, Bar Mezzana is it. Simply delicious, as was everything else we had. Great selection of wines, too. None of the names were familiar to me, but the menu helped out, with categories like Pinot Noir-ish and Cabernet Adjacent. Super-friendly service as well. My only critique is that they had no chocolate in the dessert menu.

Very good pasta, 10/10 recommend the Orecchiette. They make it vegetarian with mushrooms if you ask. Olive oil cake with ricotta gelato was delicious. The place does get really loud for conversation but the food is worth it.

I recently attended an engagement party at Bar Mezzana and had a wonderful experience. The cocktail hour was delightful, offering a variety of tasty drinks to choose from. The multi-course meal was a highlight of the evening, showcasing the culinary expertise of the restaurant. Despite the restaurant being quite busy, the wait for the meal to be completed was worth it. The salmon crudo was a perfect start to the meal, with its fresh and delicate flavors. The pasta dishes were very satisfying, with perfectly cooked noodles and a rich and flavorful sauce. The flat iron steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, and paired wonderfully with the accompanying sides. To end the evening on a sweet note, the tiramisu was a heavenly dessert that left me wanting more. Overall, I would highly recommend Bar Mezzana for any special occasion. The combination of delicious food, attentive service, and a vibrant atmosphere made for a memorable evening. I am already looking forward to my next visit to this fantastic restaurant.

There is a reason Bar Mezzana is listed as one of the top restaurants in Boston. I came here for a work dinner and it was truly amazing. Each bite was better than the last. The restaurant is gorgeous. When you walk in the door you know it’s something special. The decor is beautiful and there is a buzz in the air. The service was excellent as well. We tried the Proshitto and Burrata, beef tartar, Brussels sprouts, pasta specials and lobster pasta. AMAZING! Everything I tasted was five stars. Love the wine list too. Put this one on your list when in Boston! You won’t regret it.

Food is good but fairly average. You will leave this place struggling to remember what you just ate. The raw food was nothing special or interesting that stood out. Did appreciate the octopus salad, worth trying, but won't leave you with lasting feelings The orecchiette was good. The linguini ragu was so dull. I could make it better seriously

absolutely delicious! between the crudo and the apps it might be tough to get a main dish and a dessert but it is definitely worth it. the meal takes a while because you're savoring every bite so make sure you give yourself about 2 hours for your visit. strongly recommend!!! and don't be distracted by the fancy desserts - the pound cake is the way to go!

This has always been one of my favorite places in Boston. I recently had a wedding celebration dinner here for 10 in their private space and it was perfect! The staff was super helpful in planning the menu. They were also able to accomodate several people's food allergies and dietary restrictions. The food and drinks were amazing, even the picky eaters in our group were impressed. The private dining space was also perfect for us, and the rate for a Saturday evening was extremely reasonable. Highly recommend!!!

Outstanding service and mind blowing food, from beginning to end. Such attention to detail, whether it's the thoughtful service (host, food runner, busser, chefs, server) or each dish ordered. Every single bite is as delicious as the previous, consistent every time. Thank you Bar Mezzana team, always feels like home coming in to dine.

The food at Mezzana is excellent and the service is good. Our party of 6 was crowded into a corner booth, but that was OK. The dining room is loud but vibrant. Bar cocktails were well made and tasty. There is, however, one huge drawback at Mezzana: the wine list. I am a wine professional who owns a vineyard in Napa. I did not recognize a single producer or bottle of wine offered on the list. The major wine growing regions and recognized producers were absent. I google searched three bottles from the list. They were not covered by Wine Spectator ratings or any other meaningful internet review. We ordered a Greek wine and a Slovenian wine which were nothing we would have chosen had we been familiar with the wines. There is a certain arrogance about offering 50 unknown wines in a restaurant. Apparently the smartest guy in the room picked the wines and determined that customers should consume them regardless of customer preferences. This is not a good sell and definitely detracts from the overall experience. I would not return to Mezzana unless I could bring my own wines.

I got a Chicken under a brick and it was really delicious! It didn't seem a lit but by the time I finished I was feeling satisfied. Also got a bellini that was well made. My luck was that I just showed up and there was a spot. Definitely will go back when in Boston again.

Great service and wonderful food! We had started with the Rosemary and Onion Focaccia with whipped feta- delicious- we ordered 2! For our main, my partner got the Tagliolini- which in his words was the best pasta he has ever had. I ordered the Orecchiette- which I highly recommend! We finished off with a scoop of eggnog gelato- excellent and also highly recommend. We even finished off a bottle of Tiberio. All in all we left there at about $130!

Everything about this place is fantastic. Staff is so nice, and it has a very chic atmosphere. Went here for drinks and apps, sat outside. Great outdoor space with heat lamps. Got the prosciutto plate and the whipped ricotta with apricot preserves. It comes with 2 large pieces of bread - perfect for 2 people. The prosciutto was high quality and perfection. The whipped ricotta was something out of a dream - creamy and sweet from the jam on top. If the appetizers are this good, I'm sure this is a great lunch/dinner spot! I forget the name of the cocktail, but the mezcal hibiscus cocktail had a very unique flavor, delicious.

DELICIOUS! Stopped in for a quick dinner on the patio and appreciated the quick, attentive service. Their wine list is almost all Italian but a very unique selection that I enjoyed. For starters, I got the beef tartare and it was phenomenal. I could have eaten just that because the portion was so generous! I got pasta for my main and was only able to eat half but loved every single bite. Highly recommend this spot for a casual but delicious night out!!

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! I was looking forward to dining here after reading the reviews. It did NOT live up to the hype. Appetizers were very limited and just ok. I ordered the Veal Chop at $55 and was RAW. Server was nice and said they cook it medium. I didn’t feel like arguing. Raw is RAW. Family of 6 have been ill from this place. So definitely received some food poisoning. Would find another place for Italian food - so many other options. This is one and done for me.

Came here for an Italian brunch with friends and loved the vibe, food, and drinks!! The bucatini carbonara was very creamy from the egg yolk, so we kinda wished they used less yolk, but overall it was good! The Double cheeseburger was perfect. We also enjoyed the cinnamon bun.

Excellent service. While we were waiting for our table, we sat at the bar and Stephanie, the bartender, made me a delicious espresso martini. I was surprised though part of it was premixed. For $16.00, it should be entirely made fresh to order. I am curious what brand vodka is used. She told me it's vanilla flavored vodka but didn't say the brand. Every time I order this cocktail at various Boston bars, it's made differently! I had the duck hash with two eggs over easy and it was plentiful and tasty. A little too salty but honestly most hash is where ever you go. Our waiter (forget his name) was super friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is lovely with an octopus theme and the bathrooms are clean and spacious.

Took a friend for her birthday. The food was lovely (memorable, return worthy). The wine was great. But two things were rather problematic- 1. They forced the appetizer, salad, and mains to be ordered at the same time. Server assured us it would be timed but it all arrived back to back. (Dessert of course can be ordered later). 2. We walked exactly 3 minutes away (not even beyond view of restaurant) and friend realized she left her birthday gift at the table. It was the end of the night (no one seated at the table) and they had thrown away the obviously tissue wrapped gift (And tried to hide that fact). Rather than apologizing they insisted it was normal practice. Honestly, the lack of apology really left the entire evening just a little too salty. My friend was reasonably disappointed that it was gone, but the insistence of the girl Claiming to be the manager (while the manager was actually seated next to the chef) that she wasn’t sorry nor embarrassed, but rather that we were just wrong made this rather unforgivable. Thank you for the business card Ashley... but I’d prefer you offer to find the missing item and work toward a resolve... or more professionally, apologize. 10/10/20- *update since I can’t respond to the below response. Dear Heather, your response indicates that the lack of empathy starts at the top. This is clearly not a training issue as I might have previously thought. With regard to the timing of the food, Covid adds much stress to the food industry (believe me I know- I work in it, so your “education” was unnecessary). The first comment was that the timing of the food once it was in fact all ordered was not as promised (it basically all came at once). The requisite grace for the ordering system in place Bc of covid procedures was already extended to you and the feeling about it’s untimely arrival stands. The second issue is much larger. To keep people safe and throw things away is understood. However there was some weight to this obvious gift bag- it was a cactus after all. And if you’re staff had said “hey I’m sorry it’s what we have to do, it sucks, we’re in this together” we would have said “oh man, we’re sorry too”. But the argument falls apart when that did not happen. Your staff looked at my friend like she was dumb and then returned parts and pieces from the trash completely out of their wrapping. If it was tossed “Bc of covid” than it would not have been opened and in one tossed bag that no one wanted to touch... not loose unwrapped items placed in another food bag. Please ask questions rather than attacking. In fact please extend the empathy you’re requesting in return. This is not a “covid problem”. This is a lack of ownership problem. The best food in the world can easily be spoiled by adequate service delivered with a terrible attitude.

I have mixed feelings about Bar Mezzana. I love the location and vibe of the restaurant and we definitely enjoyed the food we ordered. On the down side, the menu is limited - if you don't like raw seafood, then half the menu is off limits. I also felt the service was off ( slow, various servers and forgotten basic request for new napkin, ran credit card before bringing bill). The food was good enough that I would give it another try, maybe not on a Saturday. I would go back for the heirloom tomato & anchovy crostini alone!

Very Nice! Friendly service :-) Beautiful food presentation and great tasting. There was an issue with my food on this visit, however they more than took care of the issue. Nothing wrong with the food itself. It was a menu issue. Just check with the very helpful staff on any questions and make sure you know exactly what is in the food. The descriptions are a bit brief. Still the menu is very nice and unique :-) live this place and will definitely go back and would recommend it! Great ambiance for a nice date night (patio or inside) Even the interior is uniquely laid out and nice done!

We ordered to-go food from here to celebrate my birthday after a long day of traveling. We had high expectations based on the reviews but we were were extremely disappointed. I have an allium allergy & I spoke to a manager to make sure they’d be able to accommodate my allergy prior to ordering. The food was underwhelming and flavorless with the exception of the anchovies which were just salty. While I understand that cooking without garlic/onion can be difficult for some, we’ve found that most traditional Italian restaurants have no trouble making the adjustments needed to accommodate us without sacrificing flavor. We were surprised that the dishes here were so one dimensional that removing alliums meant the dishes were essentially flavorless. It seems like the foundation of their dishes, & their success, lies in their garlic infused oil. I appreciate that they took the allergy seriously but if removing garlic from a dish that shouldn’t have garlic in the first place (cacio e Pepe) meant they’d be serving me plain noodles I would have preferred they tell me that upfront. Again, appreciate that they accommodated me but it’s bizarre to me that dishes that shouldn’t have garlic were flavorless when they removed it. The gnocchi was the best thing we had & that’s because it was the only thing with even a sliver of flavor. I can only assume that the atmosphere of the restaurant & the drinks are what drove the other 5 star reviews. Long story short: appreciate that they didn’t kill me but the dishes weren’t worth the calories.

I found most of the brunch meals not quite up to the quality of Bar Mezzana dinners. The pasta was fabulous, burger over cooked, and duck confit dry.

This place is incredible! I’ve been twice now and both times have been spectacular. Food, wine, service and atmosphere are all great and I would highly recommend!

First time in here and enjoyed every single moment. We especially enjoyed the lobster pasta (Paccheri) and the Chicken Under a Brick.

Another delicious meal. Never disappoints. Orecchiette, grilled octopus, and bluefin tuna tonight. Nice wine choices.

Had the best graduation celebration! The perfect place to end a perfect day. The food was delicious (we especially loved the gnocchi and the octopus)! Our server Brian went out of his way to make the night even more special!
