We went here not quite sure what to expect. It looked like a trendy restaurant bar set up. Its located in Chinatown section of Boston. The waitress explained the food is served family style. We ordered about 8 items and it fed 4 of us. So be sure to ask how big the portions are. Being an Asian place I did not know if they had Guinness, but they had a Japanese Stout that turned out to be very good. Pics of food added and will add names of dishes. I Definitely do not regret going as we had a good time.

Loved the ambiance here! The service is a little slow and you may get your drinks after your meal. But the flavor of the food is great! Definitely get their Wu-tang tiger style ribs, mushroom mazemen, and chicken & waffles. But skip on the bao, as the pork was a little dry. The drinks are pretty unique. I got the tea garden and it was super tasty.

This is a great spot to grab some shared plates! The food was very good and the portions were generous. The calamari and noodles were our favorite. Beware, the drinks are strong!

Really glad I made it down here to check this place out. My favorite parts were the bao buns and the cocktails. I tried several cocktails: Belly Slaps, Full Moon Party, Tea Garden, and Ca Phe Martini. They were all expertly made, well-balanced, and had unique elements. The bao buns I tried (spicy chicken and pork belly) were delicious. On top of everything food and beverage related being exellent, the service was exceptional. This place is worth a visit.

I love the concept. Tapas and smaller plates but fusion style. Their Korean fried rice is so good as well as their fried chicken wings. Everything is great. We ordered like ten plates for four people lol

Food was definitely overrated. It’s either too salty or bland, no distinct flavor. The noodles were rubbery. The service however was excellent.

Had high hopes but ultimately this place is all hype and no substance. Food wasn't great. Service was good. I really expected more. We ended up closing our bill and walked next door and ate elsewhere. Don't waste your time.

I went for the first time this morning to grab some pancakes before I left on a trip and no one took my order so I had to leave. The waiter told us to just got sit outside and we had to ask for a menu. No silverware no nothing. We sat outside for 15 minutes and no one checked on us, so I left since I didn’t know how long it would be until we had service.

We came here for a quick bite, and the flavors of both dishes we got did not disappoint! Very very nicely done. Would love to go back and try more things.

Mmm their ribs are so good! The bao tacos were really tasty too! The plates are definitely on the small side, so it’s fun to order multiple and share. It’s got a bit of a funky vibe which is fun. Definitely not your traditional place in Chinatown.

Amazing taste. One of the best places I have eaten in Boston. The duck fat fries were crunchy and fatty. The "Thick Chic Bites" were so good, great texture, flavor. The Bao was a bit lacking in content, nothing too special I felt, but still good regardless. The place tends to be full so do reserve in advance. A must try for sure.

This place has some good vibes to it. I wish I was hungry when coming here as the food looks pretty good. This place was the nightcap for us. We sat at the bar area and watched the bartender making drinks noon stop. I saw a duck called the Tea Garden and wanted to try it out. The cocktail was very refreshing, and the presentation was great. It was a pretty good experience and I would love to come and try some food next time.

Came here on a Saturday night with a friend around 5:45pm and was seated right away. We ordered the Kimchi Fried Rice, Squashonara and Duck Fat Fries to share, which was more than enough. While the food was good, the service was not so much. We had to basically chase down our waiter to order food and get our check (and give him our check). Even though we would make eye contact and try to wave him over, he ignored us for at least 10 minutes. I can understand since it got busier since we had sat down but it was still frustrating. I also want to add that whenever one of the waiters (always a male) came to fill our waters, they would completely lean over us and sometimes brush us in a way that made me incredibly uncomfortable. Considering the service, I definitely wouldn't come back

The waiter had very bad attitude. I asked for a table for two. He said I was at the wrong place, leaving me walking away very confused. I did not understand why. But I was very not happy about that

This is a real dope place. Mike was our server and was incredible and gave all the good recommendations. Then the music was perfect with actual good speakers! The food is great and I recommend the calamari and the chicken/waffles. Go here. go here. go here.

I keep coming back, but it's an inconsistent experience. Service ranges from great to awful. The food is always good, but the same food orders are prepared differently each time. Awesome music and vibes. I give it 3 confused stars.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Small plate food that are great to share with a friend or with a date. Tried three different Small plates (pork, flank steak and short ribs) Each one was great. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Recommend tbis to anyone looking for a good time and great food.

Perfect local pub with good bar food. They have great beers that rotate, and Monday's are half priced burgers. You really cant go wrong here.

Great little local beer list, good food, and the staff are excellent! I feel like they try to get to know you. However, when busy, it can be hard to get the attention of a server - one time I sat ignored for 15 minutes and left; another time it took an hour to get our dinner and I couldn't even get a water until I went up to the bar and asked for it. Avoid brunch - "avocado" toast was a small scoop of guacamole.

The only place in East Boston for live local music, karaoke, craft cocktails, local craft beers, and phenomenal burgers all in one. Maverick's doesn't attract certain crowds, it creates a community. A community that's present every night of the week and welcoming to everyone that walks through their doors. Don't miss out on this gem.

Nothing was good. Service was slow (40 minutes for a couple of breakfast sandwiches), only thing to say about the food was that it was merely edible. The excuse they gave after waiting 25 minutes was that They don’t usually do takeout orders. Why didn’t they tell us this Before we put in an order? Why didn’t they tell us that there was going to be a wait? After finally getting our food, there was no “sorry about the wait“ or anything. I will not be returning.

We had an excellent experience sitting at the bar. Morgan the bartender is the best and you are in for a treat if he is serving you. The drinks and food were excellent. Bao buns are a must have, burger was cooked to perfection with balance textures and tastes.

5 stars all the way! This place is aesthetically beautiful. The menu is creative and TASTY. The drinks are great. The service was top notch (special shout out to the soon to be married bartender Morgan). I had the salt and pepper calamari (large portion - perfect for sharing) and the chicken and waffles (also HUGE portion). The Bai Bai Mule is made with housemade gingerale and a cucumber syrup... yum. My friend had the ribs and tacos and both were met with happy tastebuds. Such a cute spot. Perfect for friends and couples.

Great atmosphere at this unique gastro pub. Menu is broad with some Asian fusion dishes and other pub style dishes. The Wu-Tang style tiger ribs, beef bao specialty, marzan mushroom noodles and bajo fish tacos were all delicious. Some unique imported beers available in cans & bottles as well.

Cold tea for two - 25$, worth if you like tea and alcohol. Fills about 4 of the tea cups provided. Duck fat fries - 9$, could not taste the difference between duck fat and regular fries. Sauce provided was really good. Sesame Charred greens - 9$, tasted decent would get if you need some greens in your diet

We had dinner here. Very limited menu which was a bit confused - random American Asian. My bao wrapper had been reheated and wasn’t very nice - filling was great although. Cocktails were average, but well presented. Just kind of meh.

I went here on a Friday night after a long drive into Boston. I ordered takeout through UberEats because this place had nice variety of dishes with a modern twist. I am docking one star because it took so long for them to get my takeout order ready and the packaging was full of plastic, seemingly no consideration for trash generated. Admittedly it was a Friday night and the weather was good, but if they were too slammed to do takeout orders they should just not make it available. I am docking a second star because the food had really nice and unique flavors but a bit over salted to the point where it bordered on the salt-level of fast-food.

Super cool atmosphere. Our Waiter was attentive and friendly. The single drink I ordered was very good. And slowly changed flavors as I drank it. The food is INCREDIBLE. The kimchi Rice is STUPID GOOD. The ribs were also fantastic. The Pork belly seemed a bit over cooked for the rice. But other than that, I'd come all the way back for just the rice. Super Super good. And as I said before. The ribs were fantastic, flavorful, tender, not overcooked or dry. Please come here. Seriously get the rice. Mind blown.

interesting Japanese fusion place although the menu selections definitely felt more American than Japanese. the shadowless fries were surprisingly good - I never thought beef tofu would go with cheesy fries but it somehow does (and it's very very filling!) the pork dumplings and fried calamari was also good, as was the mocktail we tried. do bear in mind that the place itself is quite small and cramped and so can get very loud when full.

Excellent plates. Had the duck fat fries which tasted great, but could have been a bit crispier. Tartar was amazing, especially the marinade that’s on it. The scallion pancake it comes with was a tad greasy. Pork belly dumplings were delicious, I even drank the broth. The pig baos were light and fluffy and delicious! The fish tacos were also great. Big pieces of fish too. In all we had 5 dishes between two people. It was definitely enough. Could have been happy with even four. Also, the cocktails are also great! The agogo is unbelievably smooth.i would definitely go back.

Very creative and unique flavors, brilliantly executed. I really want to love everything about this restaurant. We got there a bit early, just as they were opening, and they wouldn't let my girlfriend use the restroom. We had driven up from NY and being turned back at the last moment was comparable to a lovers scorn. My heart wept and you will be dead to me forever. Dat ginger scallion carbonara tho.

SUPER disappointed guys :( we came here to celebrate our anniversary after seeing it on all the recommended restaurant lists in boston but it was unfortunately not good at all. we ended up leaving 75% of the food behind... the flavor wasn’t complex, basically just very salty. the pig bao was more than HALF pure FAT. :( the fried shrimp didn’t have any flavor really, just batter. the CUSTOMER SERVICE was great though, which is why i’m giving it 2 instead of 1 stars.

Really awesome place. Really cool vibe inside. Our first time trying Shojo. The chicken wings are a must. A perfect combination of Buffalo and sweet & sour. The Duck fat fries are a perfect compliment to the wings and have a unique taste. The fried rice was good. Strong Kim Chi flavor. And the Sesame Greens are a great way to start the meal and are rich in flavor. Over all a really welcoming staff and will definitely be going back.

This is quite a unique and interesting asian fusion place. Its an upbeat gastro bar with interesting music and very out there styling. They have lots of cocktails made with japanese whisky, which are very good. I find some of the food items to be absolutely incredible, and some of them fall a bit flat. The wu tang tiger ribs may be the most delicious thing I have eaten in 26 years of living in Boston. Their bao are also quite remarkable. Their taro shepherds pie on the other hand was underwhelming, and the shadowless fries slightly disappointing, considering I’m a huge fan of poutine. I would love it if they could make a classic poutine, and then apply the asian fusion twist to it. The prices are a little high for this kind of food, and it is really easy to rack up a massive bill, but I think its worth it as an occasional treat.

Burgers are so good here! Sometimes undercooked, but most of the time they're perfect. I'd say I'm here once a week- that's how good the burgers are. Tuesdays are trivia nights which is fun! Brunch is decent, but the cocktails make it worth it. I love all of their new cocktails- especially the gin and elderflower one. Bartenders and servers are good and they're always nice. It feels like your local bar 🍸

Extremely poor management. Asked to see the supposed manager and the man that appeared refused to talk to me. Nothing like eating a sandwich outside next to a rat trap. on a very hot day I suggest they don't leave the ketchup outside in the direct sunlight could really make somebody sick. Went inside instead only to see black mold around the air conditioning and a full garbage can with gross food next to the bar. The service was the worst. I don't know how they could have ever passed an inspection.

  • 1/5 Annie B. 5 years ago on Google
Worst experience just now, the waitress brings coffee cold and with bad attitude, when we returned the coffees because they were cold she insisted with an attitude not- so -friendly that for her was "still steamy " even when I stuck my finger inside the cup to show her how "steamy" was, she kept saying that for her was hot! And on top of that she brings a smaller cup to my companion even we ask for the same size. We left the place and we will never go back there again. If you want bad coffee with bad attitude and not so friendly service then this is the place. It's sad to see new places popping up in Maverick Square with such a mediocre service gaining popularity.

I visited this restaurant for my birthday this past weekend and it was awesome! The food was incredible especially the cocktails! The vibe was absolutely fabulous with a bit of a hip hop theme that I thoroughly enjoyed! I had to leave abruptly because our party took what we thought was a "CBD" that left us all out of our damn minds and I didn't get to finish my dinner or drinks. Upon vacating the property one of the servers ran out of the restaurant to apologize and ask if there was anything they could have done better for us to stay and finish our meals not realizing that we left due to being literally transcended out of our bodies. This gesture was so wonderfully kind! I simply had to leave a review so the restaurant knows they've done a spectacular job! From seating us earlier than our reservation to the fast service and excellent quality meal! I hope in the future to return - you know - with our minds intact! I highly recommend this joint guys!

Wow! Amazing experience. I had the "Wu-tang tiger style ribs" and the "Fried eggplant bao", courtesy of the bartenders recommendation. Absolutely amazing flavor--- the two cocktails I had, the "Bai Bai Mule" and the "Seoul Sizzle" were also fantastic. So glad I walked in this place!

A lively trendy little place in Boston's Chinatown. They serve Asian fusion creations that are pretty wonderful. I had dinner there with a friend and everything we ordered disappeared from the plate. I love their take on classic Asian dishes, inspired by favorites from across Asia. If you're looking for American takes of Chinese food, this isn't for you, but if you're a little adventurous and appreciate creative culinary food, then this is the place. They attract the younger, louder, fashionable hip crowd but don't let that scare you. I know I'll be back soon!

It was great. The service was very good, and the food was all delicious . We ordered a bunch of things to share and it was all very tasty. The ribs were awesome and tender. The wings and dumplings were both great with a nice sauce. The fries were perfect for sharing, and so were the chicken and waffles. All the staff here is friendly, and it was overall a good time.

Shojo is the restaurant to go to if you are dining with a large group. Went there for my friend’s birthday dinner, and they were super quick in getting everyone their drinks, appetizers for the table, and smaller entrees. The food was delicious, and no one in our party had any complaints. I got the chicken and waffles, and will definitely be back for another - it was very tasty! Service was top-notch, and the staff made sure to keep our table clear of clutter. Highly recommend! Note: for larger parties an automatic 20% gratuity (standard tip) is added to the bill.

Food was phenomenal! Excellent quality and some creative and delicious flavors. Very well executed in the sense that the vegetable stir fry was lightly sauced, and the salt and pepper calamari was lightly battered. Everything was excellent and not greasy or heavy. Cocktails were creative and delicious. Staff was excellent. Vibe of place was cool, but loud. Only one single-person bathroom, which wasn't a problem because the place is so small. Definitely recommend!

An amazing birthday for us. Best customer service I’ve experienced in Boston, and probably the whole US. They should feature their edamame dumplings (in truffle corn cream sauce), it’s mind blowing, really!!! Highly recommended!

WOW! We came here for lunch on a weekday and I’m so glad we did. Every single dish we had was perfect, the kimchi fried rice, the duck fat fries and the bone marrow with scallion pancake were insanely good. The waiter suggested a sake to us that we immediately bought for ourselves at home because we loved it so much. This spot also has immaculate vibes- 90s and 2000s hip hop playing while old kung fu movies are shown behind the bar. It might not LOOK open from the outside - but make sure you go in for a bite next time you’re in Boston - some of the best Asian food I’ve had EVER

In general, this is a fun place, with great cocktails. However, the food is really sub-par. The salt & pepper calamari are mostly batter, the chicken & waffles are too sweet, the rice seems like out of a microwave, and the dumplings dough was kinda hard. The boas were the only good item. Service is great though, so maybe go for drinks only.

I need to give 4 stars because I've only gotten apps and drinks here! The drinks are really unique and a lot of them have unique flavors that are Asian inspired - where else are you going to see Pho Spice, lemon grass AND sichaun peppercorn on a drinks menu? The bai bai mule and the Vietnamese coffee martini were so good (I'm basic. I know.) The duck fat fries had a huge portion and also were seasoned well. I really loved the chicken and waffles! It combined my childhood HK street food snack with fried chicken... what more can you ask for. The chicken was crispy and juicy, while the drizzle of honey really brought the traditional concept of chicken and waffles together :,) I got a coconut panna cotta for my birthday and the service was AMAZING. Our waiter recommended a bar for afterwards and it was awesome. Shoutout to that man B)
