We usually avoid this place except for brunch a couple of times with tourist friends that wanted to see Newbury St. The food here is mediocre and unmemorable. I read rave reviews of their French hot chocolate so went to try it recently. Took one sip, and immediately, regret washed over me. I was hit with grainy cocoa powder instead of silky smooth chocolate. Definitely not at all how decent hot chocolate should be. I am so confused by all the reviews that say it tastes like a melted chocolate bar because mine in no way resembled that. I hate wasting food though, so I took it home, where I grabbed half a bar of Trader Joe's 85% dark Peruvian chocolate that I melted and added to this cup of disappointment. It improved the drink by 1000% but was obviously a hassle. Suffice it to say, if you find yourself on Newbury craving hot chocolate, do yourself a favor and go to Burdick's across the street.

This is a quaint little cafe on Newburyport Street. The Mocha I had was delicious. They have little cakes, grilled cheese sandwich, fruit yogurt. They are all fresh and delicious. Be forewarned, this is a busy place. Even in summer, when the outside portion is open, it is difficult to find seating.

Stress-free and affordable coffee shop experience on Newbury. During the past few months, I have dropped by this place a few times to either grab a quick lunch or get coffee. Its spacious seating arrangement is a rarity among Newbury coffee shops, eliminating the stressful scramble for available tables. One of my favorite sandwich options is the Jittery Hen. Despite its unassuming price, the well-curated harmony of coffee-braised chicken, smoked gruyere cheese, and BBQ sauce delivers a comforting and scrumptious flavor experience. The dessert options are somewhat limited, but the fruit tart I tried was a solid choice. All in all, Thinking cup excels in its triad of offerings: appetizing food, soothing ambiance, and pocket-friendly prices. It’s unquestionably a great spot for a pit stop.

Great spot for studying! The coffee is always great as well and the place is huge..definitely a lot of options for seating. Good energy overall.. I would say however I wasn’t in love with the breakfast sandwich but there was a ton of options which is nice

I came on a Saturday afternoon and it was super crowded. I guess they were too busy to make any art on my latte. Their coffee was great though.

This is my favorite coffee shop in Boston! Love their coffee, and I buy their prepacked coffee to brew it at home as well. I have tried most of their bakery/pastry dishes and they re all very delicious, especially the cheddar bacon scone and banana bread. This “BALT” sandwich was also great! Love their grapefruit and orange juices. Very busy in the weekends.

Very impressed with their Cortados. A lot of places don’t make it right but thinking cup nails it. Very good cookies too.

Their dessert menu is particularly noteworthy, featuring a range of cakes, cookies, tarts, and sweets. These treats stand out because of their reduced sugar content, making them delightfully sweet without being overly so. They taste fantastic, and the café itself enhances the experience with abundant seating, both indoor and outdoor. For those who might want something other than desserts, they also provide healthier alternatives such as yogurts, fresh juices, and a selection of fresh fruits. A trip here ensures an array of options to suit any taste preference.

Amazing selection of coffee and food. I highly recommend the Bacon and Cheddar Scone and the Blueberry Muffin. The lattes were 10/10.

I enjoyed their coffee, especially the Cortado, which I highly recommend. Their macarons are delicious, and my favorite flavor is pistachio.

Came from out of town & wanted great coffee. Ended up coming here every day of my trip. The people are super nice & the coffee is delicious. The gluten free & vegan snickerdoodle cookie is INSANE. We bought 10 over the course of our trip. Try the oat milk latte or turmeric latte. Both are delicious.

Very popular place on Sundays but the line moves fast and there’s plenty of seating inside and outside. I found my iced latte to be quite weak, and their homemade hazelnut syrup had bits of hazelnut in it which made it difficult to drink. Eclair was alright, tasted like it had been in the fridge for too long cause and tasted doughy. Oatmeal was tasty.

A fantastic spot for a cup of coffee and pastry in Boston! Their hazelnut latte was delicious and the inside seating was cozy and intimate, perfect for a morning date! Definitely recommend if you’re a coffee lover.

Visited while in Boston for the weekend based on recommendation, and we were not disappointed! It was extremely crowded inside on a drizzly Sunday morning since there’s not much seating, but service was quick and the interior/ambiance was great and so cozy. Oat milk latte was fantastic, espresso was very smooth. Cold brew was also very good. Breakfast sandwich was amazing, and a great price, and the chocolate croissant was average—good overall, not exceptional. Prices seemed very reasonable, especially considering the location. 10/10 would recommend

Probably one of the better coffee spots in the area for “character”. I liked it a lot inside although it was a little overrun. This would be a great place to meet someone for a coffee, but if you’re interested in just the drink probably easier places to go in the area for a better cup. I got a latte with whole milk but tasted a bit like a cup of microwaved milk. Appreciated the art still in a to go cup.

The customer service was too bad The lady who prepared the coffee(the one with brown with highlight hair) was not nice. She talked with me in a rude way. I also did order latte but she made cappuccino instead. I told her I ordered latte. She opened the cup and said I will add more milk. She continued latte is same as cappuccino but with extra milk. I asked for a new one(latte). She did make a latte. Then, she shouted out latte with extra milk. I told her I do not want it. I am not taking it and I throw it away. I do not know why she treated me this way. Is it because I am wearing a scarf!! I

Food was great! Loved the Barcelona Sandwich and the Vanilla latte. Pretty good value. Maybe it's the Nashville in me, but found the staff to not be super interested in the customer-- tried to spark a conversation since it wasn't busy, but got shut down hard-- seems like the focus is on getting things out quickly, not customer experience. Overall, a great place to work-- maybe not so much to be social.

Great pastries (the mark of a truly great coffee shop) but sadly long lines and crowds mean that sometimes orders get misheard or misplaced. Still a go-to for first dates or early weekend mornings.

LOVE the latte/flat white coffee (call it the same here) AND has non-diary and gluten-free choices. My favourite were the freshly-baked madeleines 😍. Great vibe (except if you’re in the overflow area where’s like a back storeroom). Only other reason I rated 4/5 star and not 5/5 - didn’t provide wifi. Inconvenient for travellers.

This cafe is super cute, went there based on a recommendation from a friend. Very busy though on a Sunday morning, so try to keep an eye out for a table as soon as you get in! I had their chai latte and almond croissant 🥐 The almond croissant was good but have had better elsewhere, won’t deduct points for that though cause it was still good.

I'm in town on vacation the last few days, and I was getting to the point, where I was feeling really scattere brained. So I hunted down a coffee shop, and this place was exactly what I needed to reflect and chill. The mint tea is fantastic!

Very cute little coffee shop. I'm just passing thru Boston but this definitely seemed like the "it" place to grab coffee .. a breakfast sandwich .. and enjoy some time together. It has gorgeous seating inside, as well as the outside cafe tables. Customer service was incredible and I'll definitely be stopping back tomorrow morning for another cup!!

O.M.G. I just loved my cappuccino and cornflower blueberry tart here. I am honestly not even a tart person but I loved every bite. I wish they had some branches near my house in Watertown though. They used Stumptown coffee hair bender in my cappuccino and hands down was the best cappuccino I ever had in Boston. I honestly love that they don’t have WiFi because it makes it a more relaxing place for reading a book or going out with your friend. I also love how they have old newspapers on their tables. Staffs are very friendly and nice. I also definitely want to recommend the Stumptown Hair Bender coffee.

Great iced coffee and pastries. The lemon poppyseed scones are always delicious. The last time we visited, we tried the eclairs. They looked a little bit dry, but were such a pleasant surprise! Tasted light and fresh.

Excellent cozy coffee shop perfect for getting work done or meeting with friends. It can sometimes get pretty loud so be aware of that when planning your visit. Coffee and pastries never disappoint and their bagel sandwiches always hit the spot. Yes there is no wifi but that's part of the charm :)

Got an iced caramel latte and it was probably one of the best coffee drinks I've ever had! It was so smooth, not too sweet but also not too bitter. The guy at the counter was also very nice and patient. Will go again!

My hot vanilla latte was delicious. It went well with a slice of their zucchini bread! I highly recommend their zucchini bread. Dense, moist, with a crunchy top & that hint of cinnamon. ❤️

The staff was friendly and helpful as I was a first time customer. The breakfast burrito with bacon was great! They make their own syrups in house and an employee recommended an iced caramel latte. Delish!

If you are a fan of hazelnut latte that is made of homemade hazelnut sauce that you can actually taste the nuttiness and the actual bits of hazelnut itself (vs. the artificially flavored syrup) then Thinking Cup is a must try. For iced latte, the milk is not just poured in over ice, it is actually frothed. Yes, frothy iced latte!!! I have tried hazelnut latte in a lot of cities I go to, and Thinking Cup is absolutely the best. Such a gem!

Really lovely neighborhood, and a busy little coffee spot with large selection of croissants, scones, and other stuff. My friend got a Macchiato and liked it. I got the Mediterranean Mint tisane , this comes in a big cup and is VERY hot . The flavor is delicious once it cools down. I actually walked back to my hotel with it. Great bright mint flavor. I asked if they sell it .....they don't.... but the brand is called Mem Tea . I'll look it up . Pretty good morning spot .

We stumbled upon Thinking Cup one morning while searching for good coffee spots near our hotel and it did not disappoint! Breakfast sandwiches were also delicious and the fruit tarts & lemon poppy scones…suffice to say we bought some and they didn’t make it home, we ate everything on the car ride back to CT. Staff was super friendly and attentive as well. I can’t wait to go back :)

I recently visited the Thinking Cup coffee shop in Boston and I must say, it was a great experience. The location is perfect, situated in a nice area of the city. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere of the coffee shop was very chill, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee. Overall, I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great coffee shop experience in Boston.

Cozy little coffee shop that is clearly popular as it was pure luck that got me a table. I got a chai latte and the flavor was good but it was lukewarm, which I found confusing but it was fine.

I’ve read so many good reviews about their varieties of latte but I was disappointed when I tried hazelnut latte.. it tasted like some hazelnut creamer.. wouldn’t go there for coffee again.. egg and cheese with avocado was good tho

This may be my favorite thinking cup location since its tucked away down some stairs on newbury st. It’s probably the cozyest of all their locations. I also like the fact that this particular location has outdoor seating. Their muffins are amazing, but I tried some sort of bread pudding and I didn’t find it very flavorful. Their coffee is consistent with their other locations and is excellent.

Due to covid19 orders are asked to be placed online before coming into the store. Well, I did that and apparently I ordered from the wrong location. When i was given the link it was for the Hanover location, but online it placed the order through 85 Newbury. Something told me to check via telephone to make certain. Sure enough my gut instinct was right. I called the the Newbury location and I was told our order is there. When I came in the girls were so helpful and sweet that when i told them about the mix up their manager gave me 2 free punch cards for the trouble of not being helped or offered by the Hanover location that they could make my coffees. My boyfriend and I are from So Cal and this is our 1st east coast trip and this by far has made our trip beautiful. We started in CT , then RI and service there is very cold . Thank you 85 Newbury THINKING CUP TEAM FOR your kindness, great service and making my trip worth it. . I love their Hazelnut latte with oatmilk. Went back 2x and also ordered the bacon cheddar scone, yummy and chocolate nutella croissant. All delish

This place had really good coffee and a pleasant amount of foam. I got the B.A.L.T sandwich which satisfied my taste buds impeccably, the bacon was thick cut and cooked to perfection. I paired the sandwich with an oat milk iced mocha that was perfectly blended. I enjoy a G.F tiramisu and a few other GF things they had in their cabinet. The only thing that could use some work was the customer service from the barista. I understand it being difficult with things now behind the counter but it be nice for think about the grass on the other side.
