A new experience for me. They come around with carts loaded with food, and you choose what you like. I was there late, at 14:00 , I am sure that is why it was empty. Except for a few Asian customers. Which I always think is good. It is a beautiful restaurant, used to be the theater. The food was excellent and the staff was very helpful. They have a full bar. Also, take note of the parking that is available in 1 of the pictures, please verify with the website first.

I'm a wedding photographer that loves Boston's historic Chinatown weddings! I was curious to see what a Chinese wedding venue that could hold 650 people looked like. YEP, 650 guests. They fit without a problem, and somehow the room didn’t feel overwhelming either. Then a 13 course meal! It was EPIC. But make room for the first dance! Which was a bigger showstopper.

Maybe we should have had dim sum. But we ordered off the regular menu. The hot & sour soup was OK. The chicken & vegetable dish was very bland - almost completely tasteless. The service was very poor - very slow and our server couldn't answer any questions about the alcoholic beverages or the menu items. The tablecloths and napkins were not just stained, but recently dirty and tablecloths were definitely not removed after each use. The best part of my meal was the adult beverage ... the Dragon Delight... which was tasty & strong. The atmosphere is different and funky, which is why we selected this place, but I strongly recommend going elsewhere in Chinatown for good food.

Haven't been here in a long while (before pandemic) because the food and quality were not good compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area. But lately they got a new chef and the food and quality has improved. The service also improved as well. Came here twice recently and both times did not disappoint. Very spacious and usually not crowded so we felt comfortable dining in and didn't feel rushed

I am so sorry to give a one stars for this restaurant. Food is terrible serve in my opinion, and the taste also lower than standart. Service is not outstanding because they have a huge seat plan and only 2 waiters served. Location is prime

Lovely experience. I went here for dim sum on a Sunday with family. We were looking for a traditional style dim sum with carts after Hei La Moon moved, and we were not disappointed. The food was immediate delicious and hot. The turnip cakes are my absolute favorite. They automatically bring tea to the table, and will refill upon request. There were a few tables open, but Sunday morning is the busiest time of the week. The space itself is gorgeous and colorful, it's worth going just to experience. We did not see a cart for tapioca coconut milk soup, so we asked for that. The staff speak enough English to explain what meat is in things, but it is difficult with dietary restrictions. This is not a good place to go as a vegetarian.

The venue for this place is amazing! I absolutely loved it. Everyone here is so nice and friendly. I didn't have too much to eat because I have a pretty bad shellfish allergy, so unfortunately I don't have the best review of the menu but the place was packed and that kind of speaks for itself. Everything I did eat was fantastic

Old school dim sum place with carts of familiar dim sum rounding the former grand theatre space. They have special dishes not making the rounds like clams and black bean sauce, beef brisket and daikon stew and other classics on a small buffet to the side you can go to and get heaping bowlfuls of your favorites. Service is friendly and helpful. This is where Chinese families get together for dim sum. Recommend.

This place is incredible. Close to the orange line Chinatown stop. Go for dim sum in the mornings on the weekend. The ladies who work there will show you to your table and pour your some hot tea and they will bring carts by with lots of different delicious plates. Dumplings and buns galore, beautiful atmosphere. We will be back for sure.

Authentic, real Chinese food set in an old theater. Dim Sum is excellent. Don't expect a menu, just sit down and pick dishes off the many carts. So good!

Dim Sum is a great a place to go with a party of 3 or more, so you can enjoy more items without having to eat too much or having too much left over. I'm not sure if it is because I went to this place when they just opened their door for business. There are not much to select from, but they all tasted delicious. I liked that they added fried dough to Kanji and jasmine tea was served on the house.

I was there at around 12-1pm and there were only about 10 tables occupied. The chicken feet was the best of all the four dishes I picked from the cart. The steamed tofu wrapped dim sum was decent, not the best I’ve ever had, but it was fine, just a tad bland. The fried one was cold and not crispy. The beef tripe tasted slightly sour, which is a sign that it wasn’t fresh, so I pretty much didn’t eat that. They’ll give you free water but for tea it’ll be about $1.5 or so extra. For about $6 per dish, I don’t think I will go back. Convenient location and nice restaurant setting tho, but the food quality is meh.

Good dim sum and slow service at times. The best servers are the young lady with the shoulder length hair and the young tall man with the glasses. When I have one of them as a server, the service is a 5+. When I don't have them as servers, service can be slow. This is the prettiest dim sum restaurant I have visited and I've seen hundreds. Empire Garden is set in an old theater. Excellent ambience. Great drinks selection. The Mai Tai is fantastic. Limited dessert selection. In April 2022, one of the cart ladies, the one with stamp number 4, charged twice for a dish. I don't think it was intentional -- she punched on a different line and then stamped again, had a weird look on her face, then walked away. Clearly, though, she knew she made a mistake and instead of correcting it, she obviously hoped I didn't notice. However, due to the look on her face, I looked at the tab and saw 6 stamps, but I had only 5 dishes. Thankfully, none of the plates had been cleared from the table (this non-clearing of the table is usually a negative, but it helped my case in this situation), so I got a hold of a server immediately and showed him 6 stamps punched for 5 dishes on the table. The server corrected tab. There was one time when I paid for the tab and then I got stopped by Management, asking me if I had paid. I showed them my credit card receipt and I said I even gave them a great tip of over 20%. I've eaten at Empire Garden over a hundred times. I would rate them a 5-star restaurant for most of the times I've been here. June 10, 2022: I've changed the rating from a four to a five, but I've left the comments above.

Cool old place with delicious food. They need to clean the linens and replace the rugs. It hasn't been updated since the 70's?! Nice staff . Reasonable prices too!

Such an amazing experience, the food was amazing, the staff was so friendly and even gave us a calendar for the new year! As we were eating we did research about the building and turn out it was an old theater. The art work was AMAZING so big and beautiful. Will definitely be retuning again.

An authentic Chinese restaurant with an open plan seating area. The customers were majority Chinese which is a good sign. The hot and sour soup was fantastic and the sweet and sour pork was one of the best I have had to date. For some reason service to order off the dine in menu was a bit slow, but once the order was placed the food arrived all in good time. Wonderful!

Very Chinese authentic experience. In the mornings on the weekdays they have a great system of a waiter coming with a cart and asking if you want one of the dishes they have and pulls it out right away. At night it’s more of a standard restaurant experience. Overall it was fun to go there for the experience and the atmosphere!

Interesting interior, since it was a former theater. The dim sum was very average, and a lot of it seemed premade and reheated. The fried fish was stale. This is a visit once and never again type deal.

My girlfriend and I went for Dim Sum for lunch. It was fast, friendly, the food was great, and it was clean with a cool atmosphere. The place used to be a theater and it's a very cool piece of architecture. We went in and told them that we have never done Dim Sum and they took very good care of us. It was a really cool experience.

Delicious dim sum served in carts to your table in an old theater. Make sure you get veggies from the side station.
