There's a saying that: "A good taco doesn't need cheese. A good taco only needs a little bit of lime and cilantro." This statement is true when it comes to this place - which is a huge compliment since Boston is famous for its lack of authentic, good taco restaurants. (Came with a mexican friend who had been searching for good tacos in Boston for a long time.) Got 4 tacos with 4 different fillings: Al pastor (pork with pineapple), Papa's con chorizo (potatoes and meat), lengua (beef tongue), and pork en Chile Verde (carnitas in salsa). Homemade taco shells - fresh, warm, thick and soft without that grainy texture. All the meat were super tender and juicy. The Papa's con chorizo didn't blow me away - could taste more potatoes than chorizo (if any). But I would definitely come back to get the Al pastor and pork en Chile Verde. Also got the horchata which was delicious! It reminded of sweetened almond milk with cinnamon. If you don't like cinnamon, don't get this drink. My friend got the quesadilla with the Papa's con chorizo. Wasn't blown away with it but we think it's because of the filling. The potatoes were too plain - not enough flavors. Good amount of melted cheese and the guac is perfect. Very filling meal, delicious, and it can get Super messy since the filling will topple out of the taco shell with every bite - but no complaints there. 😉 The space is small. Only counter space to eat with maybe 7 chairs. Service is great and fast!

Food: Torta (Toasted Mexican telera bread, shrimp, refried beans, melted jack cheese, guac, pico, lettuce, jalapeño, mayo) Ambiance: Very cute, casual, small venue. Parking: Street parking is available. Pricing: Fair. Food (flavors): This torta was PACKED with flavor. The pico and lettuce gave the torta a fresh flavor. The cheese, guac, mayo, and refried breans gave the torta the fatty flavors that we know and love. The shrimp was cooked well, but I don't recall tasting any distinct seasonings on it. I didn't really taste the jalapeños which was good for me because I don't like them too much. The bread was so soft and lightly toasted; I enjoyed it. Portion size: Large For more reviews, my food page is @fave_foodie on instagram.

The Birria tacos are amazing! The taco plate was watery and less flavorful, and didn’t come with any tortillas like the menu described. I definitely recommend this spot.

My go to place for Mexican food. Everywhere else I am taken for "the best Mexican food in town" can not compete with Chilacates. Having had close to everything on the menu I strongly recommend checking it out and grabbing a classic soda in a glass bottle for your meal. Their prices reflect the quality of the food and even when they are super busy you can order and walk out in 10 minutes with your meal. A must try

Great little whole in the wall mexican spot. Very small inside. Maybe seats 10 people. The food is fantastic and worth it even if you have to get it to go.

Authentic flavors. Freshly prepared and good original taste. Small place off street parking. Prices little in the high side but you pay for fresh food.

A small little spot for a quick Mexican bite. Portions are good. I'd hoped my burrito came with some chips on the side like most other places do, but at least the burrito was filling. Had my burrito had just 15-20% more steak I would've given max stars. All in all still very good. I placed my order in English and my parents were able to place theirs in Spanish just as easily thanks to the bilingual staff. It's a small thing, but I appreciate it!

I had the best BIRRIA tacos! I absolutely love them! So delicious! Thank you! The churros were good but I prefer dulce de leche dip not this bitter chocolate! Just a reccomendation but still very delicious! Thank you!

The first thing that happened was this restaurant didn’t include one of the items in our order despite it being on the receipt. Then when we called them regarding the delivery they refused to deliver the missing item and eventually hung up. We had to get a refund from Grubhub. Sad as we had liked this place.

Ordered chicken quasedia (5 out of 5), fish tacos 🌮 (3 out of 5) and shrimp 🍤 tacos 🌮 (4 out of 5). The restaurant is in the middle of nowhere. Mostly takeout 🥡 Thay have a couple of bar style benches facing the street. Prices are on the high side. They charge extra for everything (extra salsa with your tortillas chips).

This restaurant sent an incomplete order and refused to replace the missing item, suggesting we just reorder another time. I had to get a refund from Grubhub.

This was a quick bite to eat before taking a Sam Adam's tour. I wish this was in my hometown!!! Great food and homemade Verde sauce and hot sauce. Amazing!

The grilled chicken bowl was amazing!! The chicken was cooked so well and there was plenty of it. The salsa was the bomb too. Really great food, 10/10

Small foot print but massive flavor! Birria Tacos (3) with some hit sauce hit the spot.

We have eaten food from here four times in the last 2weeks. Each time the food was inhaled before I could get pics 😂 sorry! We have tried their chips and guacamole, grilled chicken quesadilla, regular taco plate, birria taco plate, rice w/black beans, tostada, elotes, maduros and flan. Everything has been delicious. The menu was a little confusing at first. Because it’s mostly about how to build a burrito (which we haven’t tried yet. I have been disappointed with my last few times eating at chipotle. I just doesn’t taste like it used to. So I’m very glad we gave CHILACATES a try. 10 out of ten…would recommend this location. Note: We walked in and out of their Centre St. location due to a foul smell kinda like a bad cleaning product.

Came recommended from a brewery very nearby - fast and very friendly service, food was excellent; probably the best refried beans I’ve ever had, el pastor was tender and tasty. Two solid thumbs up.

Some of the best Mexican food in Boston can be had at Chilacates. Every meat option I have had has been good and their spicy sauce is delightful. Service was quick.
