Would have been nice to see vendors with hot cocoa, tea, coffee. It was a frigid night. 12/10/22. Fun, family friendly. Park rangers very visible.

While the ice skating was a long line - it took about 1.5 hours. The cost a little steep 57$ for 2 with rentals and 1 locker - it was still a majestic experience.

I had so much fun and it was my very first time to enter ice rink. My friend encouraged me to try ice skating. At first, I was so hesitant coz I think I was too old to do it and I don't think I could balance myself but thanks for her encouragement I was able to challenge myself.

I take my grandchildren in town Boston on Xmas Eve every year, it gives their parents time to do some last minute Xmas things and make dinner for us. This year we skated at Frog Pond, checked out the new MLK Statue on display, looked around at all the lights and decorations, stopped for hot chocolate and snacks and got in a bit of last minute shopping in for their parents, great fun all around!

Beautiful park. The oldest park in Boston. The frog pond in the winter is a ice skating rink. My daughter's highlights of her vacation were skating on that rink.

This is a FABulous SEASONAL ice skating ⛸️ rink in the heart of Boston Common. Less people during the week and obviously packed on the weekends! You can rent skates or bring your own!

We visited the pond to go ice skating with the family. The line was a little long and gave us pause, but it started moving so wasn't terrible. They were swamped and were not able to sharpen skates and the lockers were very tiny. Overall, spent a couple hours on the ice and had a good time. Those with cash were able to get into a faster line, not sure if that will happen again, but something to bring for next time.

Great weekday skate. Surface is rough but expected: it’s still fun! Entry $10 (free under 58-inches) skate rental $15 for adults / $10 for kids

The ice was more water than ice because of the warmer winter. Therefore you should bring two pants to change after getting wet skating.

Our family visited while on a vacation to the area. We were pleasantly surprised to find easy, free restrooms for changing and a snack shack with reasonably priced yummy treats. Seating was abundant and this was a no-stress situation for us, making this one of my favorite parts of our time in Boston. Most of all, our kids (ages 9, 12, and 17) all enjoyed cooling off in the water. Thank you to all who make this possible for people to enjoy! Happy 4th of July!

Went here last week. Parking in Boston Commons was really easy. Took the kids to the frog pond, there are bathrooms and a place to change right there, a nice fountain in the middle of the pond and a carousel. Fantastic place for toddlers and small kids.

The Boston Common Frog Pond is a fantastic place to visit with your friends and family, especially during the Winter months since it is frozen to serve as an ice skating rink.

Purchased our skates at around 2:30 (almost $60 for 2 people) and after we had put them on, they closed the rink to clean it for 30 minutes meaning we only had 30 minutes to skate before the rink was closed. The skates and laces were wet and smelled horrendous - my daughter almost threw up while she was putting them on and taking them off. Do not waste your time here

Must visit place with kids age 2-5 years. It was crowded but manageable and I was so happy to see all happy faces music and amazing weather. Next to pond they have play area where kids can enjoy slides.

This is an incredible park in downtown Boston! A great place to visit with family and friends. Lots of green area to set up a picnic or just have a good rest under a tree! Washrooms on site. With a cafe for snacks and there are a few food vendors throughout the park. (fried dough, lemonade, arepas, etc) Has a HUGE wading pool, a large adventure playground with a small toddler splash pad. The big wading pool - is about mid calf deep. Kids under 12 should be supervised. There is a carousel near the wading pool $4 a ticket or $20+ something for 10 rides. Lovely lovely place to spend you time on the 4th of July!

Love this place for the kids. Before covid they really had events all the time. Its slowly coming back and I'm so excited! They had a movie night, Halloween festivities. I love the commons. Even just people watching is a good time because there are people from all walks of life, and class, such different worlds we all love in

Frog pond was good, but crowded and of course water not as sanitary. Wish it was chlorinated. My daughter went in and her eyes were a bit red. If going in, wear shoes and don't put whole body in the water. Animals are going in there too so be careful. The park next to frog pond was nice.

This is our second time ice skating here. Pro - Free entry for active military personnel plus one other person, a cute little pond to ice skake in, they offer blue seals for an additional $15 to put your child on it and skate the child around Con - overpriced, not enough benches for people to rest on

I need someone to explain to me why the playground is open at frog pond during covid with the ice skating closed? I definitely imagine kids rubbing their hands all over playground equipment is more risky than people skating around. Stupid stupid stupid

Was closed in September...too bad because the weather was warm and kids could have enjoyed wading in it. Don't know if you are ever allowed to wade though. Cute frog statues.

My son loves this place in the winter is ice skating in the summer is a wading pool. Then there's the very busy park across from it. It is usually busy especially in the summer so you definitely have to keep a close eye on the children. Between strangers from all over and the hustle n bustle if downtown along with a bunch of kids swimming and running it could be scary if you don't watch good. There's also a merry go round. It has a changing room/bathroom in winter they rent out ice skates.

So BEAUTIFUL Turns to an ice skating rink during the winter! The bench from Good Will Hunting is around here but not labeled irl (only on Google maps) so you gotta just go on vibes. Can’t wait to revisit in the summer!

A green oasis in the middle of a concrete world. Busy most of the time. Underground parking below the park. I stop by when I'm in the area for a stroll.

The frog pond is lovely. A beautiful oasis in the middle of a hot day in the city. We enjoyed the tadpole playground and running back and forth between the two. There are food carts around the area, super easy to get a bite for a hangry toddler and a bottle of water for yourself.

Visited Frog Pond over July 4th weekend, always a great time to travel to Boston! I will remind even out of state travelers, this is the weekend a lot of people go to the beaches or mountains so Boston is quieter than normal. The city re-opened Frog pond after a couple years hiatus due to Covid so it was very exciting!! We went on a Sunday and the pond opened at 11, but it’s located in the heart of Boston Common so there is much to do if you arrive early like we did. Carousel was running at 10 am and for 4.00 your little one or big one can ride for a few minutes,I always go on with my son. Also near frog pond is tadpole playground always open and all sorts of climbing structures to keep kids busy until the countdown for the pond opening. The pond has bathrooms at it and a place to buy snacks, there are lifeguards even if it’s primarily a wading pond but enough to cool off and play in. We walked around the commons saw lots of vendors and had a great day al around! Being the family and have a picnic!! I will be back there soon.

Had a great sunday night in Boston with the family! The pop up rink this year is TINY and it was crowded until about 7 but still a good time and we will return next year. Wish they had food only surving hot coco so make sure to bring snacks.

It was free event sponsored by the Friends of the Public Garden. The event was feature free skate rentals (while supplies last) and free cookies, and free hot chocolate! The FREE skating sessions was began at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm 4:00 pm, and 6:00 pm. Space was limited to 125 skaters per 90-minute session. Free tickets were available beginning 30 minutes before each session. My friends and I showed up at the event at 1:30pm and were pretty much at the top of line and waited less than 10 minutes to get our 3 free tickets for 4o’clock session meanwhile people were lining up for 2o’clock session. By the time my friends and I were leaving to grab something to eat and warm up the line became pretty huge. When I return back for my session at 4pm the tickets were sold out for rest of the day. So it was good decision first stopped by to pick up the tickets in advance. Everything was nice and smooth and well organized including picking up the rental skates. The skates were nice and sharp. So with getting rent skates and putting them on my feet I was able to happily ice skating by 4:11, including storage my stuff in locker and going to restroom. I finished my ice skating at 5:15pm and after enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate time with my friends while some people were still ice skating. They finished the session sharply at 5:30pm so everyone has enough time to return their skates and enjoy the hot chocolate/cookie time before next session starts at 6pm.

I wanted to do something fun and silly for our belated Vday and came down to ice skate in the park. The ice was a little wet, but that's to be expected when the weather was a beautiful 60 in February!! My only complaint was that there were a group of kids that belonged to a class that kept skating straight across instead of in the circle like everyone else. I know the instructor did it to teach her class, but it made it very hard (as a noobie to skating) to avoid them safely.

My family love to ice skate here in the winter. It makes me feel like I am in a hallmark movie or something. I did witness a woman run into some children here. She did not apologize and felt like it was the parents fault that the kids got in her way. People can be so rude and this definitely ruined my hallmark feelings

Had a great visit to Boston Common a few days before Christmas. We wanted to ice skate, but the line was long and we didn’t have enough time, sadly. Would love to someday get back here to skate as it looks like fun.

It's a great place to cool off with kids! There is a lot of rules so check before you come, but overall it's fun!

  • 3/5 Sam S. 6 years ago on Google
This place is always packed during events. It’s a nice place to sit a watch people in the summer and in the winter. In the summer the pond is open and there are sprinklers. I see lots of kids come here to play in ankle deep water. Not sure how sanitary it is but I guess it’s pretty clean because I have never heard of them closing it down due to illnesses. Sometimes it is closed and flushed. So maybe that helps. But also maybe it can be a way to boost your kids’ immune systems if they don’t get terribly sick from the water. The ice skating is nice in the winter. But like I said, it is always packed. Come here early to rent some skates or bing your own. But come early so you don’t have to wait in the mile long line. For others, bring a date and either ice cream or hot chocolate to watch people and chat. Great way to get to know each other by how they perceive others.
