Extremely interesting graveyard! It was established back in the 1600s! It’s surround by modern buildings of today, which makes it all the more intriguing to see. Don’t miss the beautifully made headstone at the very beginning!! The story of the gravestone is provided at the gravesite as well as the story of the Ice King! Super cool! Would definitely recommend for anyone who’s into walking through history! COVID safety rating: 10/10. It’s outside and it’s pretty spacious. When we went during the early afternoon, there were only a handful of people there. Everyone for the most part was wearing a mask.

Oldest graveyard in the city and an interesting stop along the Freedom Trail. It is adjacent to King's Chapel, even though the chapel was built after the cemetery. It's interesting to walk around the gravestones and read the inscriptions. It is a small place, located in the middle of the city near other important historical sites.

🪦Burial Place of John Winthrop & Others🪦 Established in 1630, the King's Chapel Burying Ground is the oldest graveyard in Boston. Several governors, including John Winthrop, are buried here, as well as passengers in the Mayflower. It's one of the cemeteries you'll pass as part of your Freedom Trail walk. Be sure to see Joseph Tapping’s stone. It's near the start of the cemetery and features a depiction of Death and Time contending over the morality of mankind.

Kings Chapel is right by the Omni Parker Hotel and just a short walk from the Granary Burying Ground and Boston Commons. Kings Chapel is another opportunity when visiting Boston to step into American history. While Granary may have some more immediately recognizable names, Kings Chapel is a really fascinating place. The detail on the headstones is enough to keep you there for some time. Budget time into your visit to stop by Kings Chapel Burying Ground.

Crazy to see tombstones dated in the early 1700s! Definitely see John Winthrop’s grave too.

One of the oldest remaining sites in Boston. A great look into the past of our nation. Mayflower pilgrims are buried here. Governors are buried here. The King’s Chapel is next door and is a treat in its own right. I highly recommend walking the Freedom Train and strolling through here along the way.

Another awesome historical site on the freedom trail. The steel structure which I assume was a well was fascinating.

John Winthrop's grave is the highlight. The pioneer Puritan leader and first Mass. Gov. is here with his son, John Winthrop the Younger, who was the first governor of Connecticut. It seems more fitting that the younger would be buried in Connecticut, but he's here, along with several other Winthrop family members in the same tomb. There are several other historical figures here and in the Granary Burial Ground across the street. I had limited time and was particularly interested in seeing Winthrop, but a good historic tour can be had between the two cemeteries.

Is this the oldest “European” burial site in the US? Est in 1630, so I think it must be. Explanation panels telling stories about the deceased, showing how hard life must have been back then. These people have suffered and battled make their settlement work. Some graves are beautifully detailed.

The King's Chapel Burying Ground is the oldest cemetery in the city of Boston being founded in 1630. It is one of three cemeteries included on the Freedom Trail in Boston and can be conveniently visited along with the adjacent King's Chapel church. Cemetery opening hours are 10-5pm daily. The cemetery area is quite small and you'll find signage to help point out the location of headstones and markers for famous early American figures such as first Massachusett's governor John Winthrop and Mary Chilton, the first European female to set foot in the New England colony. Note the grounds are not in as good of condition compared to other Freedom Trail cemeteries, Old Granary and Copp's Hill Burying Grounds. As such, it is important to stay on the designated walking path within the King's Chapel Burying Ground and not walk upon the ground itself. You can see this attraction on the Freedom Trail quite comfortably in just 10-15 minutes then be on your way to other sightseeing endeavours in the area.

incredible burying ground ... the oldest in Boston! make sure to see the "Scarlet Letter" grave that Nathaniel Hawthorne said was the inspiration for his famed work. and check out the Joseph Tapping gravestone, which might be the best gravestone in Boston

One of the 3 cemeteries on the freedom trail. Very cool. William Dawes (the midnight ride of Paul Revere) is buried there.

A great old burying ground that is very worth your time. Lots of history is buried within this small space. A great little walk.

A very interesting historic landmark from 1686 that is worth a visit if in Boston. You can see inside the church which is beautiful inside, as well as get views of the crypt and bell tower. The burial grounds are also right outside. So interesting to see this Unitarian church and the style of the box seats that used to be purchased by English upper class.

It was such a moving moment to walk through this cemetary; knowing it was established in the 1600's. Most of the engravings are so worn and impossible to read. It is important to keep this history alive.

I'm really not a fan of viewing grave yards. So I can't give a good rating on this. It's small and can be very crowded. Hard to read tombstone also.

Interesting place to visit with history of importance. Unfortunately the cemetery like all the others on trail. Are poorly maintained, heartbreaking to see a historic site, dirty, broken signage, damaged walkways. Expected better from the city of Boston and park’s authority.

If you're here for the history, then this a definite stop on the Freedom Trail!

Compared to the Granary Burying Ground, there are not as many "big names." The Joseph Tapping grave is notable for its carving. You probably won't spend as much time here because it's small, but worth a quick look around.

A historical place on the freedom trail in Boston. Was there for two weeks building scaffolding around the outside of the church. The church is one of those locations in Boston that remind you of the past and stands out against all the modern buildings around the area.
