This Victorian townhouse museum is an absolute hidden gem and was my favorite stop on my Bookish explorations of Boston. It’s where they filmed parts of Little Women, and as a Harry Potter fan, I found it to be a perfect dupe for Grimmauld Place! Curated and donated to the public by a gay author, the house is a slice of queer history that houses three generations of Gibson family members and dozens of servants between 1859 and 1954. The Gibson House Museum is open to the public year-round by guided tour. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students, and $5 for children.

Our tour of the house proved to be a truly wonderful experience. The unique charm of the house itself held our attention, and our guide's combination of personable demeanor and extensive knowledge enriched the visit further. The tour was informative, engaging, and allowed us to glean insights into the history and intricacies of the place. While the overall experience was positive, I am withholding a star due to a few considerations. Accessibility emerged as a notable concern. It became apparent that the house might pose challenges for individuals with disabilities. Navigating the premises could prove difficult, if not outright impossible, for those requiring mobility assistance. It's important for prospective visitors to be aware of this limitation and plan accordingly. Moreover, a word of caution regarding the timing of the visit, particularly during the height of summer, is prudent. While the staff made commendable efforts to mitigate the effects of high temperatures by providing fans, the conditions might not be conducive to comfort for all visitors. The sweltering heat of the season could potentially detract from the overall enjoyment of the tour. Nevertheless, despite these considerations, I am enthusiastic in recommending this experience to others. The intriguing nature of the house itself, coupled with the expertise and friendliness of our guide, made the visit memorable and enriching. For those with an interest in history and a tolerance for the potential weather challenges, this tour offers a delightful glimpse into the past. The efforts of the staff to ensure a pleasant experience, including their efforts to keep visitors cool, are commendable and add to the overall positive impression. In conclusion, the tour of this house left a favorable impression. The engaging guide, along with the historical significance of the location, made for an enjoyable and educational outing. While considerations regarding accessibility and the season should be taken into account, the overall experience comes highly recommended for those seeking a unique and informative exploration into the past.

I toured this home after visiting the Otis Mansion earlier in the day. What a difference in domestic living 60 years later, from 1796 to 1859. Carlos, our tour guide, made it come alive. Fascinating! I highly recommend.

Tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. It is a beautiful house. It does not take long, and it is low-budget. They have 3 different tours with different focus (I think). I am already planning to be back for a different tour.

Beautiful house with a lot of interesting history and things to see! I've lived in and around Boston for over a decade now, this was the first I had heard of this museum and I'm so glad I got to see it. Most of the original house was left untouched, 80% from what I recall, it's a must-see. The tour was great and thorough. Keep an eye open for interesting letters, tools/knicknacks, and artwork!

No one is at the front so it’s very difficult to get there on time if you have mobility challenges or are older. Plus Boston weekend traffic is always a disaster. We paid, couldn’t get there on time and no one opened the door. Could be great but it’s a hassle.

A gem in Back Bay - I wish more people knew about this place. Scheduling a visit was easy and the house itself is beautiful. Our tour guide was informed and passionate. Will definitely re-visit some time and think it is absolutely worth stopping by!

This Victorian house is a hidden gem. Walking through the door is taking a step back in time. The guides are knowledgeable and make the visit interesting. I’ve been on two different tours and have signed up for another. Well worth a visit!

Fantastic tour of this absolute gem...unchanged since the Gibson's turned it into a museum...is like they have just stepped out the house. Informative guide and a rare opportunity to see what home life was like in Boston for the well to do families of Back Bay. Well worth a visit and the $9 entrance fee for adults.

Splendid house with all the historical decor intact from the original owners. I got lucky to have a private tour just for myself as the other party did not come 😅

I never thought one could possibly say this about a tour guide of a historic house---but she was very rude. Short with the visitors, unwelcoming and seemed in a rush. I will not be contributing to any further Gibson House events.

Very interesting house that belonged to a well-to-do, but not over the top wealthy family. You get an appreciation of how people lived in Victorian times and how a house can change over time. Fun to see the kitchen as well. Great tour.

40 minute tour of interesting 19th century house with mishmash of period furnishings. No great art, stuffy and dark on a hot summer day (no surprise in this). Little exceptional to see but located on pretty and historic area. Worth the small expenditure of time involved.

Nice quick museum to add to your list of stops in the BackBay area. Guide was very knowledgeable on the history of the house and area. The house has been kept in near original condition and really is a step back in time.

A beautiful house museum, with an interesting history. I enjoyed walking through, but I would have liked more background on the family, and a more informative guide.

We had a wonderful tour. The house was interesting and our guide was personable and knowledgeable. I’m only leaving off a star because it would be difficult if not impossible for folks with disabilities and I advise not going in high summer, though they do their best to keep you cool with fans. Highly recommend though!

Great Experience!! Our tour guide Micheal did a fantastic job and knew answers to all questions. The house itself is much larger than you would expect and it is preserved wonderfully. Highly recommend checking this place out!
