Just the history and the inside decor of the restaurant is an enough reason for a visit. Started with complimentary warm tasty corn bread. Clam chowder was also very good. Had the Fried oysters with fries and it was very fresh and tasty. Receive a free pot of gold souvenir for St.Patrick's Day. Server was friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend.

Good food, especially if you’re looking for fried food. Clam chowder was good, just very small bowl, cup is even smaller. My daughter had the fried seafood platter. It had a lot, with fish and chips, and a variety of fried seafood. She really enjoyed. I had a scallops platter in a light creamy tomato sauce with rice. I enjoyed it also. The salmon was good and the lobster macaroni and cheese was good also. It was a bit pricey, parking wasn’t easy to find, but it’s a great area to walk around with a lot of pubs in the area with music. This place had very good service and worth the visit at least once.

I know this place has been around for a while but man was it just amazing from food to service. Everything was top notch. The lobster we got was amazing. We got clam chowder to share for the table to taste. Our waitress was the life of the party not only with our table but you could just tell how her energy made everyone’s night amazing at other tables. Food was super filling and the set up is very nice. I know their upstairs kitchen is closed and it’s a shame their menu has shrunken since covid but they’re doing amazing! This is a must if you’re in Boston - add it to your list now!

The Union Oyster House in Boston, steeped in history, exudes a charming character that echoes through its décor. The moment you step inside, you're transported to a bygone era, with dark wood panels and vintage fixtures, creating an authentic and nostalgic atmosphere. One notable feature is the large tank brimming with lively lobsters, adding a touch of maritime allure. The anticipation of choosing a lobster for the table adds an interactive element to the dining experience. The staff at the Union Oyster House contributes to the warm ambience, providing friendly and attentive service. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to assist in navigating the extensive seafood offerings enhances the overall dining experience. However, my visit took an unfortunate turn with the seafood platter. The excessive batter masked the delicate flavours of the seafood, leaving a rather one-dimensional taste. While others in my party enjoyed their meals, the lack of nuance in the seafood platter left me with a less-than-ideal lasting impression. Despite the charm of the setting, the disappointment with the dish diminishes the overall experience. The Union Oyster House has its merits, but my culinary encounter has left me hesitant to return, hoping for a more balanced and flavorful rendition of their seafood offerings in the future.

When you first walk you instantly notice the beautiful authentic decor which really sets the mood. After being seated we were instantly greeted by the inviting staff. I decided to try their most famous plates. The flavors were amazing. I will definitely be back to try some more ones. My significant other also loved the beer selection! A great experience.

During a quick trip to Boston, we looked up for the best seafood restaurant in the area and Google recommended this place. After struggling to find a parking spot, we finally made our way to the restaurant. The place has the charm and warmth that can only be acquired through years of continuous service. The place was not very busy when we visited so we got a seat quickly. I ordered their special clam chowder, the soup of the day (minestrone) and the fish of the day (haddock) with a side of mashed potatoes. All washed down with a Guinness beer (I wish it was draught, but it was available only in a can) The food was delivered very quickly by our very helpful server. Everything was delicious. I could not find anything that was lacking. Even the prices are very reasonable. Must try!

The oyster lovers of our group loved the oysters. I was dying for fried clams and they were so tender and amazing. If you go for a quick lunch from out of town before heading to the airport, you might split a couple things. Oh and the fish stew was so good! Very attentive server who shared the history of the restaurant and told us where to find the Kennedy booth and more.

The oysters were fantastic. I wish I had just ordered a plate of those for lunch instead of the scrod or clam chowder. Ketchup and leftover horseradish helped make it 3 stars. The price was definitely a tourist trap. Go here for the ambiance and history, don't stay for anything but the oysters.

We went there on Sunday night, wait time was an hour which was better than expected, We ordered fried calamari for appetizer, which was very tasteful. We ordered two hot lobster rolls and it was great, one of the best foods I’ve had in Boston. Fries were very fresh and delicious too. For desert, we got Boston Cream Pie and it was simply amazing. I definitely recommend this place.

Visited on a Wednesday evening, got seated in 5 minutes and the order was ready in 10-15 minutes. Very friendly staff and quick service. The restaurant is full of history and artifacts, loved the cube seating. Salmon, crab cakes, corn bread 🥪 clam chowder , shrimp and scallop plate was awesome. The sauce was really good. The size was perfect for dinner.

Oysters were good, had better. Lobster ravioli was not worth the $33 for 8. Could barely taste when it's covered with cream sauce, what a waste of money. Service was attentive. You're eating here because of the history and other people's review. Would not repeat for food, just old vibe atmosphere which is cool.

This place is amazing. The staff is amazing they are courteous and will accommodate all your needs. First time came at night had corn bread and corn clam chowder soup and catch of the day broiled. Next day lunch time had a lobster roll with blackened catch of the day. Super tasty and just great food. My hubby doesn’t like seafood but loved our plates. Must come here to eat. And the atmosphere is amazing!!

I recently visited Union Ouster House, and I was pleasantly surprised by the charming atmosphere that echoed an old story. The food was delicious, bringing a taste of tradition to every bite. The nostalgic ambiance paired with excellent dishes makes it a four-star experience worth savoring. One thing is about our shrimp entree, it was pretty bland taste of it. Needed a little extra seasonings. 4/10

What an amazing experience! We chose this restaurant based on it's reviews and was not disappointed at all. The history behind this restaurant was just amazing. The food was also very delicious with fair prices. This restaurant should be treated as a historical landmark and I would recommend anyone to eat a meal within this legendary restaurant.

Keep it simple, go with colonial ale and oysters. Still one of the best clam chowders I have ever had even after 10 years of searching. Request the JFK booth if possible. On top of it all, their cornbread is fantastic (and I hate cornbread!) and there is so much history here it is a definite must stop when on the freedom trail or visiting Boston

Tourist heavy but definitely worth the time. Claiming to be the oldest restaurant in America the union oyster house has all the charm and seafood you might expect. Very generous portions and lovely wait staff made this stop a real delight ❤.

Service was fantastic! Very helpful. This place is huge but still gets super busy! It’s right where a lot of the tourist area is. The inside is beautifully decorated. Outdoor seating is available. If Covid wasn’t here I would prefer to sit inside though. The food was just ok. I thought the seafood would be better but it wasn’t bad. Check it out!!

Dear Union Oyster House, I was just a number that came through your doors yesterday. I mean, the food was good and the history was wicked, and that really carried the meal, but you don’t really care that I was there. The clam chowder was tasty, as were the crab cakes; the cornbread was dry. Our server was lovely, but your restaurant is not a place that sends the “come and hang out here” vibe. But, as a tourist in Boston, it’s something we all must do.

I love this place. We went twice in the same weekend because the food was so delicious. The service was also amazing and the staff was so nice. All the seafood was so fresh. The clams and oysters were phenomenal. The lobster roll was so juicy and buttery. Anything from their menu is definitely going to be good!

Great staff. Coolest building with amazing history. Oldest restaurant in the US. The Kennedy booth is very cozy. Freshest oysters in town. JUSTICE our waiter was entertaining and excellent helping us choose a great meal. Worthwhile stop if your in town.

Cool place to dine. We had lunch and it was a good experience. Even though I'm a skeptic of "oldest" anything, it was still a cool place to visit. The food is about average. Clam roll was good, tons of clam. Won't even fit on the roll. Clam chowder has good flavor and plenty of stuff. Lobster roll was also about average. If you like the attraction side of dining, Union has that box checked. However, booths are tight for space, and ambiance is "old", which is what you are buying. It's worth the visit if you like that.

My wife and I did the tourist thing and went here while visiting Boston. It was relatively empty when we came for lunch so the service was pretty quick. Our server was very nice and friendly, she made recommendations on what we should order. The brought us some cornbread to start, it was super soft and moist. It wasn't to sweet which I liked. We got the clam chowder to start and I ended up getting the lobster mac and cheese for my entree. My wife got the lobster ravioli. Overall the meal was pretty good but to us the decor on the wall was the coolest part of the meal. Definitely a cool place to see while in Boston but definitely more for tourists I think.

As much as this place may be a tourist trap, I would still recommend checking it out at least once if you’re in Boston. The building itself is very old and really cool since it’s the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the states. In terms of the food, the clam chowder was really good, definitely would recommend getting the bowl instead of a cup since they also provide extra bowls if anyone else wants a taste. It was also nice that they give you a huge chuck of complimentary cornbread when you get in. Since we were travelling with a toddler we also really appreciated the little touches catered to them like fun little cups of water and the colouring pages with crayons. The staff was also very nice and helpful. Overall it was a great experience. Just a little note if you have a stroller, the doors coming in are a little small so bear that in mind and that you’ll have to leave it at the gift shop before going in.

Wanted to visit this place due to the history. Reviews weren't bad, so that added to it. We were all disappointed. All other oyster houses had lines, not here. Sat right away. Service was not good at all. The server was not friendly, very quick, and to the point. Never asked anything other than what do you want and left. Food was mediocre at best. Way overpriced and feasting on the building and location. Upsetting. Wouldn't go here again, nor tell anyone to. There are too many places around with way better food and service. History is the only upside. Bummer.

Lobster Ravioli and some oysters to start off a wonderful evening in the city. A very historical spot in Boston with a well known reputation for New England classics like clam chowder and delicious seafood. My lobster ravioli was deliciously creamy and I have to say I was totally stuffed at the end of dinner and for once did not have room for dessert! Check this place out if you can!!!

The best thing about the place I would say is the history behind it as it's the oldest restaurant in America. I had lobster roll, and my husband had chicken with fries and veggies, which was baby carrots, but tasted like baby food. The chicken smelled weird. I also had better lobsters. This wasn't the best food experience, yet we enjoyed the history and experience. I personally think it was a little overpriced, but I would again say you pay for the experience, not the food, I guess. The complimentary corn cake was good, though!

Came here on a suggestion from a friend. I was immediately impressed by the history inherent the location. Staff was friendly and attentive and the food was absolutely delicious. Drinks were okay...tasty, but not the most amazing things I've ever had. The strength was good though. I had the sautéed shrimp and scallops and wow what a flavor and presentation. If you're coming to Boston, definitely plan for a stop here (if you like seafood). Union Oyster House is a must.

Very cool and historic atmosphere. My scallops and shrimp were good, but my mom got a fish that she said was completely tasteless. I’d say stick with shrimp, scallops, or oysters if you want a definite good meal.

Amazing experience all around!! It feels like you’re walking through a museum and the history supports that!! So many important figures were regulars here and to hear the stories is so much fun. The chowder is amazing and our waitress Erin was great! When I told her I was collecting stuff for a scrapbook project she went and got extra pamphlets and odds and ends for me to use. Request her if you can ☺️ 10/10 would definately come again!!

YUM! We were looking for a one stop shop that had all of the Boston must-eats for our last day in Boston. Great oysters, tasty lobster roll, creamy clam chowder and simple and sweet Boston Cream Pie. Tried the baked beans as well - to me they seemed to just taste like Bush’s beans but that might just be me! Indoor decor was intriguing and attention grabbing. Lots of history here.

We were a little nervous before visiting due to some review about the service but our experience did not disappoint! Conveniently located by Quincy market, we arrived right around noon on a weekday and was promptly seated. Since it is a historical site, most of the restaurant is preserved and give off a feeling of historic time. Our server, Debbie, is very friendly and professional and we enjoyed not only our dining experience but also hearing about the restaurant’s history from her. I also especially like how you are free to walk around the restaurant and read all the signs, watch displays, and even visit JFK’s favorite booth on the second floor. The food is enjoyable though would say the vibe and history is more special than the food. There are many style seating area and the restaurant is huge! Food wise, corn bread and lobster roll are my favorite: with the bread being nice and moist and lobster roll is just the right flavor. Before we left, we were also gifted with homemade oyster shell with handwritten restaurant name from Debbie. Thank you so much for this enjoyable dining experience that is more than just the food and look forward to future visit!

Great foods indeed. Really nice atmosphere, too. Osyter was really good and fresh! And the steak was surprisingly good, too. It was nice looking around the walls, showcasing historic pictures and ornaments. Service of the waiter was good, but front lady was not friendly when she was greeting us. But overall is good place to visit.

1st time here and our waiter Chris made it a fantastic experience. The clam chowder was creamy and delicious, the lobster stuffed ravioli and cream sauce were fantastic. The oysters were delicious, my husband had 18. He the smaller ones(forgot the name.. cape cod ones). My lobster roll was chunks of delicious goodness. The extra butter made it even better.

I love this place. I had visited around 5 years ago and on my most recent trip was desperate to try and figure out where we went. Phew! Found it! Last night my friend and I had an amazing dinner. I got the lobster which was delicious. Cocktails, desert and the service were all incredible. Among my favorite things however, I just love the atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

A must do in Boston. We had a party of eight. Food was amazing. The menu has something for everyone. The staff, just terrific. The explained everything, made you feel welcome and I could tell they truly enjoyed working there. You could spend house just reading the walls. We had two younger kids and they were totally entered by just walking around. Everyone had a different dinner and all said the food was delicious. I had the New England clam chowder, fantastic! I should have ordered two!

4 stars for the place but I must say, the food was not good. Our server Debbie was awesome and so sweet. We had fish, lobster, clam chowder and the calamari and they all lacked flavor I'm not sure the seafood was fresh. It was very underwhelming but I guess people don't come here for the food.

We were visiting Boston from Toronto and this was our first restaurant stop. With the rave reviews we were not disappointed! First off, oldest restaurant in Boston, just adds to the overall experience here. Walking into the place is like stepping back in time. Second, our server here was excellent. He was knowledgeable on the menu and provided his recommendations based on our preferences. We ended going for the clam chowder, lobster, and steamers. With the clam chowder being our first experience in Boston, we were certainly not disappointed. It was creamy, thick and had ample potatoes and clams!! It is a must try at the Union Oyster House. Fun fact that the server shared with us; on your way out of the restaurant you can check in at the main desk (beside the gift shop) and requests the recipes for both the clam chowder and the cornbread! Nice little added bonus to top-off your visit here

Pleasantly surprised. We ordered the veggie option for 2 people, which was more than enough for 3 of us. We were happy with everything (veggie korma, sag paneer, veggie coconut curry), the medium spice level was great, and we will be ordering again.

I have a lot of food allergies, and the server that we had went above and beyond to make sure that I got food that I could eat. I have honestly never gotten such good service in regards to my allergies. This was a fantastic Boston experience that I was so glad I could partake in, despite my allergies. Thank you!

This place was very good! Visited for Restaurant Week. Started with Fried Calamari, excellent. Entree, I went with lightly fried oysters which came with french fries... Yummy! Finished it off with apple cobbler. Good stuff. Worth coming back. Next time I would like to sit at the oyster bar.

Really good food but prices higher than reasonable in my opinion. Location adds to that but lots of places near with great food too and better prices. You go here because of the history. You then go elsewhere next time for the prices. Cool to see and eat there...once

It's okay. The history is the biggest thing going for the establishment. Food is mediocre with the price points of the area. Not much in the way of beverage selection. If you haven't eaten here, it's worth the visit, once.

I would say go here even if the food wasn't good (which it is) just to see all the history in the place. The seafood was delicious..my husband had oysters and I had shrimp. Bar staff was fun..kinda reminded me of Cheers. Ask the bartender to tell you the story about the French king that lived upstairs.

I went in solo on a Saturday night and got a seat at the bar without a wait. Oysters in half shell were really good (local); chowder was amazing; and lobster roll was really good too. And they had a special Sam Adams on tap not available in stores. Great service too by everyone behind the bar. Only small complaint was the bar menu was much shorter than the restaurant menu which you can’t order off of at the bar. Otherwise a great spot.

My family ate here last week and we really enjoyed the seafood. I had the fried oysters and a cup of clam chowder and they were both really good. To me the most special part about this restaurant is the decorations. I’d come here again just for the environment. I can’t remember the name exactly of what I had to drink but it was some sort of rum, grenadine, sprite drink; very reminiscent of a Shirley tempel and it was very good too!

My mom and I had a wonderful meal here in this historic, long-time running restaurant and bar! While the booths are a bit small, I love how it reminds you of earlier times in Boston when people used to eat here. The restaurant is extensive, featuring three levels to eat on and a much larger back area than expected from the exterior of the building! The meal was enjoyable and served to us quickly.

I've been dining here for decades and have never been disappointed. UOH is our go-to place in Boston for New England seafood. We don't normally get seafood for takeout, but our order was fresh and delicious as usual. Don't let any indoor dining restrictions stop you from enjoying delicious food from one of Boston's last remaining historic restaurants. We certainly don't want UOH to go the way of Durgin Park and Jacob Wirth's. Unlike those late and lamented restaurants, UOH seems to have offered consistently high quality fare.

Just to give my card number i had to tell 3 different workers. First two didnt even try to listen they just say its breaking its breaking and told me to come and order. And the third person had no problem at all. It doesnt seem that bad right? But the way they talked was trash. SO RUDE

All hype and no quality. The seafood platter should be called the bread platter as the portion was small and everything was heavily breaded. The clam chowder was ok but nothing spectacular like some locals would like to believe. The seafood platter was tasteless. Cool ambience as the building is old but beyond that you are going to lay a lot for mediocre food.

Great oysters. The house cornbread was out of the world. Loved their clam chowder.

The first thing I loved about this place is the miniature version of it in the window. Charming! But recently when I finally went in and ate I was very impressed. The food is FANTASTIC, classic and delicious...exactly what I expected. We had a great server who was friendly and knowledgeable and he gave us the perfect suggestions. I had the crab cakes. They were probably the best I ever had; and the French fries were definitely the best I ever had! If you ever have the opportunity to eat there do yourself a favor and try it. You won't be disappointed.

Love this place! We split a lobster roll, calamari and clam chowder. It was so good! The history of the building is very interesting!

We ordered the clam chowder, 1/2 dozen oysters and a 2 pound lobster with mashed potato. I read the reviews before making a reservation. Not expecting too much. The chowder was not bad. Oysters were fresh. Lobster was great with roe which we were lucky to get. Service was decent. Over my expectation I’d say. Enjoyed the meal.

Better than we anticipated since it's right in the heart of the tourist area. It could be mediocre, but it's not. We had lunch at the bar. Our bartender was excellent. Knowledgeable about the drinks and the food. The fried clams and oysters are some of the best we've ever had. The historic colonial atmosphere is perfect. Take a walk around and look at all the artwork and media. Very interesting. The Oyster House is a little pricey, but makes up for the extra expense in quality.

A wonderfully historic place! We had dinner on Halloween. The staff got into the spirit donning costumes. The meals came perfectly cooked. They also have a unique Sam Adam's on tap exclusive to themselves. It's a nice brew with hints of molasses. We had a great time. I recommend making reservations prior to arrival.

Great place to get seafood. Waitress helpful. Food was delicious. Cornbread was just like I like it for flavor and texture. Highly recommend, however, pricey. Once in lifetime for lobster for my husband. Clam chowder yummy 😋

A very historical place and a restaurant. Yes.. if you want to go for a place in history that’s one thing but being just as a restaurant.. it’s not a very good place but again it’s tourist place and they also know that you won’t come back again or soon so the food and service .. everything.. is for one time deal . Dirty restrooms and very small . Place is real cozy and kept in a very good condition. I love Boston. Nice and very friendly people like in Texas . Many many good seafood restaurants are here .

I went there for my birthday, I spent a good time there. We had cornbread and butter as entry. I ate my cornbread like it was my birthday cake , it was so good. The server was very professional.

Fantastic service all around. The clam chowder, crab cakes, and cornbread were my favorite. The sauce added on the crab cakes was tasty as well. A little bit pricey but would definitely come back.

Linda was our server and she was phenomenal. She was very warm and welcoming. She had a good sense of humor and a heart of gold. The food was very good. We had the seafood sampler, the famous baked beans and world renowned clam chowder. If we lived in Boston, Linda would have made us regulars. Love her and Love Union Oyster House!

Had a good visit here. Decent food and great staff. It is the oldest restaurant in the US. We have visited here a few time and find it nice to visit. They have a full bar and multiple levels with plenty of seating. It's an old building so if you are seated on upper level you use stairs. Many famous people have been here and they have wall near bar area showing these famous people. The Union Oyster House is located close to Quincy Market and very easy to walk to from there. When in the area give it a try! They are located at 41 Union Street in Boston Massachusetts.

Best seafood ever. Calamari was tender and crispy while the sauce tasted like a homemade marinara. The fish and chips were so good we went back on our last night in town to have it again. I don't like tartar sauce and I slathered the whole cup of theirs on my fish because it was so good. I don't know what they do here but it's amazing.

Got the clam chowder here in a cup size but wish I got a bowl instead since the portion was rather small. The taste was really good and creamy. The rustic ambience here makes sense since this place is historically old. There’s a souvenir shop there and you can walk around and see various memorabilia and historic sites. Good place to visit to say you’ve been here

Food was great, service was exceptional. Had lobster mac, lobster ravioli and a lobster roll. Each different dish had a slightly different taste to the lobster. All unique and enjoyable. Our server was very nice, and was a pleasure chatting with her.

Great experience and good vibe eating in one of the oldest restaurant, the corn bread was excellent for complimentary starter, We had clam chowder and shrimp and scallops main dish, both tasted good and filling. We were lucky and got seated immediately, I think there are limited seats so better to call restaurant before going.

Jim at the bar was super friendly before we even sat down. It was my husband's first time having clam chowder and he loved it. First he got a cup, then a bowl lol The cornbread is pretty good too! Drinks were quick. Service was friendly. Food was delicious. Vibe was cool.

Lobster Mac & cheese was amazing! It was on their specials menu. Also had the sangria, amazing! Tried an oyster for the very first time here, it was interesting, but I didn’t hate it. There’s a garage nearby for parking, but it was $16 and you can get it validated if you’re there under 3 hours. Everyone in my party liked their food. The place is very heavy on the fish smell, but expected obviously. Really neat rooms with cool wall hangings. Highly recommend a reservation!!

I had the house chowder and broiled scrod with mashed potatoes. It was so delicious and fresh tasting. My wife had the shrimp and scallops over rice. The sauce was amazing. We also shared some fresh oysters that were unbelievable. Great spot with lots of history. I would absolutely recommend checking it out for a great dinner with your family and/or friends!
