I typically am not one to post reviews but I feel so strongly about doing so now to protect others from experiencing what my family did. If I could give a "0" I would. I work in health care and up until a month ago I also had a son that was medically complex. In all my interactions with health care professionals concerning my son over the past 20+ years, I have never been treated so poorly as I was by Lorraine A (Cases Manager). She is the most uncompassionate, rude and dismissive individual. I understand the need to transition patients out of acute care but she knowingly placed my son in a facility that was recently investigated for neglect, abuse and thievery and he was dead within 9 days of her doing so. She claimed that she investigated all options but she did not as some of the facilities she claimed to have contacted had no record of her doing so. DO NOT LET A FAMILY MEMBER BE PLACED IN HER CARE!!!

The nursing staff in Plymouth BID Hospital in the ER DEPT is is despicable. They are the most unprofessional and uncaring nurses I’ve ever come across. Then I had to be transferred to BID hospital in Boston and it has been no better. Sitting here with vomit and unclean Johnnys for hours on end. Trying to get a .nurse to come to my room waiting up to an hour and 45 minutes for someone to come to my room. My IV came out of my arm and it took 45 minutes for a nurse to come and help me. Thank god I was able to stop the bleeding myself from IV. What if I was an Elderly person and didn’t know to apply pressure to my arm so that my vein would stop bleeding. These are just a few examples of why this hospital starting staff should be overhauled and retrained. If you don’t want to be a nurse then don’t take on the position I realize it’s a lot of work and it’s demanding and it’s hard with the overwhelming amount of people with Covid and that are sick but if you can’t treat your patient with respect and dignity and care and compassion then you don’t belong in this field. It’s an absolute shame that I’ve had this experience today is September 24 I’ve been here for several days I have run across a few good nurses yes but the overwhelming amount of disrespect in and care for the patient in this hospital is not acceptable.

I was a patient at Atrius Health for several years and when my PCP retired, I decided to switch to Beth Israel due to the convenience of their locations and the fact that switching to them would, in theory, allow me to see a few specialists who weren't covered in my prior plan. This was a big mistake on my part. Accessing care as a new patient at Beth Israel has been frustratingly difficult. First, they don't keep their directories updated enough and the first few PCPs whom I asked to see (all of whom were shown as accepting new patients) were, in fact, not taking new patients. Upon finally getting set up with another doctor, I tried to get registered on the PatientSite online portal, only to learn that you can't use this until you've had an introductory appointment with your PCP. So, after calling and being transferred through multiple channels, I was quoted a 4 month wait to see the new PCP whom I selected and my only option for a sooner appointment was to see one of this doctor's residents. The resident whom I saw via video chat was thorough and pleasant to work with, but things got worse when I followed up with the BIDCM dermatology department to set up a melanoma screening (I have a family history.) I was quoted a *half year* wait to see anyone on the dermatology team. There was no cancellation waiting list to get on, and when I called my PCP's office to ask them for alternative options, there basic response was "Well, what do you expect us to do?" I found this really upsetting because during my initial visit with the resident, I had specifically cited some skin issues I had been dealing with and they had told me to reach out to dermatology after the appointment. Out of curiosity, I called my old provider's office at Atrius to see what their PCP and specialist wait times were like (Covid is straining the health care system, after all) and it was a completely different picture. Far more appointment availability than what I'd experienced at Beth Israel. The receptionist I spoke with there was shocked when I told her about the dermatologist wait time I'd been quoted. As of today, I'm in the processing of working with the Health Connector to switch back to Atrius Health and one of their PCPs. I regret wasting two months attempting to become a patient at BIDCM. Trying to receive health care here has been a series of hurdles that, in my mind, negate any benefits to be reaped from being a patient amid BIDMC's admittedly impressive network of doctors. What good is that if you can't see anyone in a timely manner?

I have been seen by Dr J P Hezel in Orthopedics for several years now, for a variety of body parts. This recent visit was for my right shoulder. He is pleasant, patient, explains everything clearly, gives me options for treatment and allows me to make my own decisions whenever possible. He has a good rapport with patients and makes me feel comfortable and heard.

WOW, just wow! The care at this hospital is spectacular. My wife delivered last night and we cannot be happier about the attention and transparency the doctors & nurses have provided us. We were originally going to have a home birth but my wife was having trouble dilating so we came into B.I. and we are so happy we did. God bless everyone who helped us.

Major cardio operation. Very distant staff, so not a supported experience. They knocked out most of a tooth in procedure, denied I had told them about it, and eventually after 3 months responded saying that I signed off on unexpected consequences, so my problem to deal with. Mind you, I'd bet if there was an unexpected consequence that required more effort from them, they would have had no problem in adding costs to the bill. So sad, I'd love to have good things to say about folk in whom I trusted my health, but no. Try others.

I had a biopsy and the pain made me extremely ill. I could not get up and or walk afterward I was dizzy. I told the gynecologist that preformed the the biopsy and she dismissed me and asked me to leave. I made it to the reception area flailing and yet again was met with what I can only describe as cruelty from the receptionist. I collapsed in the parking garage and was taken into the lobby by paramedics. I was in and out of consciousness listening to them repeating over and over, "we're losing her." Good times.

Had to live here for a month due to my high risk pregnancy. The majority of the nurses were terrible not welcoming or caring at all. The flod service was always missing something from my tray. The house keeping was garbage never changed the bed sheets, never cleaned the floor or surfaces only restocked paper towels and toilet paper and they only seemed to show up when I was talking with my dr. That's HIPPA they should not be coming in the room when dr. Or nurses are with you. And the nuses assistants changed my bedsheets but they always smelled like wet dog. It was so nasty. My birth experience was great though. My surgeon was phenominal but I only saw her as they were prepping me for surgery, during surgery, and after surgery once within 24 hours. After that never saw her again. Was there for 3 days after c section. Baby was in NICU for a few weeks the NICU staff was also bad always shifting nurses knowone knows what is going on....they have rotating dr.s since it's a teaching school you never have the same dr. For more then a week and it's hard to connect with a new dr each week. Other problems Like I said house keeping never actually cleaned that also includes the bathroom bring flip flops and your own lysol wipes in a bag like I did since staph infection is very common. There fold trays weigh like 10 pounds and after surgery I was not suppose to lift heavy objects. There shower towels are so small they barely cover your head bring a full size towel but dont leave it in the bathroom house keeping will take it. Bring your own bathroom stuff there stuff barely cleans you. It takes hours to get any tests done like blood work,x rays, ultra sounds.but they rush you when its needed. Bring a fan the rooms get so hot and stuffy the noises will drive you insane beeping from machines. The nurses were so negligent I told them I was in serious pain after surgery not near my incision and they insisted I take oxy. Well I didnt and I'm glad I didnt because I had a serious infection they brushed off and it was there fault from the wet dog bed sheets. Good luck.

I recommend that you do not go here if you are seeking gender affirmation surgery. My friend received bottom surgery at Beth Israel last year, and she received top notch care! However, this year the surgery department has become overwhelmed. They had an incompetent secretary (who has since left) who didn’t even correctly schedule me for my consultation. Surgeon showed me a portfolio that was not his work. I had 2 scheduled surgeries this summer that were canceled because the office could not get through to my insurance. When I requested to pay out-of-pocket for the costs that were not covered, I received no response. I then requested that they rescind my authorization so I can seek surgery somewhere else (at this point, 8 months of my time had been wasted). A month after I told Beth Israel that I was done, I received a notification that I was scheduled for a surgery. I reached out and the office let me know that they scheduled me so that I can still be considered for surgery. I let them know I was uninterested. Most devastating experience of my life, put me much farther behind when I had already been trying to get top surgery for YEARS. Good surgeons here, but if you have Medicaid, you will likely never see them. Wish I could get back the time that was wasted.

A good service and a good treatment from every staff including your doctor deserves a good review. Unfortunately you are unable to prove both and that is why my review is this low. Also, how come you don’t provide customers with a receipt for proof of payment? That’s is considered illegal and I have reported the hospital to IRS.

Excellent hospital! Staff and doctors are top notch. They always asked me if I needed anything and made sure I was comfortable. My anesthesiologist was absolutely amazing! All the nurses were so kind and helpful in assisting me with aftercare procedures. Highly recommend this hospital for surgeries. I had a very pleasant experience amd will always be thankful for the care I received here. Thank you!

I delivered at Beth Israel and the staff could have not been more amazing. Our entire experience was so wonderful due to the caring and engaged nurses and doctors. From labor to postpartum we received amazing support and the facility was also clean and comfortable, as well as safe.

I had an absolutely horrible experience. I am writing to warn others. I recently had a liver transplant and because of the anti-rejection meds, I am immune compromised. Nevertheless, I had to wait 24 hours in the Emergency Department before I got a room upstairs. Told by nurses that for the past 2 years, the wait for a room has been awful with many patients having to wait 2-3 days for a room. With my immune system being compromised and being exposed to a lot of sick people including ones with Covid and flu, I felt very uncomfortable. And, during the 24 hours, I NEVER saw a ED doctor. The nurses were embarrassed by the ED wait period. I wasn’t told in advance so you can imagine my surprise when they took me to my room and some else was in the room. A curtain separated us and the room was so small. A bed, table and nightstand. No chair. Most of the rooms are SHARED rooms so your privacy is compromised and you are exposed to lots more people coming and going (there were at least 50 people who entered the room to see my roommate.). Again, I felt my health was being put at risk— my risk of catching something was high. While the doctors and nurses were great, the ED experience and SHARED rooms, made my experience awful! If you are immune compromised, you should avoid this hospital.

I was admitted to the ER from south shore hospital early evening on 12/31 with a rapid heart beat. South shore stopped my heart l and jumped it back to a more natural rhythm. It was then decided best to go into Boston. Mass General Hospital and Tufts indicated they had no beds. However, Beth Israel said they did I came in. Once they arrived in the emergency room, they did a full review and said I would be going to the cardiac floor, but likely spending that night, it was approximately 11 o'clock in the ER and I would go up to the cardiac floor in the morning. In fact, they put me in a closet in the ER next to the ice machine. We are all the paramedics come in with Gurney's blaring lights 24 seven and noisy as a casino . The first day I saw a cardiologist and they explained what my path to recovery would be. I did not get a room that day the next day I did not see a cardiologist at all the third night I asked when I was getting a room and at 4 o'clock they said I would at 6 o'clock they said that room was taken at 7:30 I was told I had a room I packed up all my stuff and it wasn't until 415 the following morning that they brought me up to a room because I had tested positive for Covid. They said it would be a private room I was awoken at 5:30 that morning , I began my procedures and they followed Covid protocol with visitors, wearing gloves and masks and gowns. 15 minutes later they gave me a roommate. Since then, I was told I was getting an ablation and if that didn't work, I would be given an ICD similar to a pacemaker during the procedure. They decided not to look for an ablation, and instead just did the pacemaker. I went back to my room when I thought I would get some rest but again they decided to bring another roommate I said I needed darkness and quiet to sleep after my surgery, they said the only dark room was the solarium which affectively is the room where they tell family that their love ones have passed there's no bathroom there is no darkness. I think the talent to Beth Israel is spectacular. I think the administration and their protocols are evil. The world is sick and tired of hearing the pandemic or unprecedented times as an excuse .

My wife just had an emergency appendectomy this week, and the staff did an outstanding job. From the staff in the ER (Samantha was the best!), to the anesthesiology department and the OR team, everyone was so kind and very professional and explained everything so well to us. Not that anyone ever wants to end up in the hospital, but if needed to, you can definitely trust and feel comfortable at Beth Israel

Dr. Harper is professional, personable, knowledgable and was able to confidently assess and diagnose my orthopedic issue as well as recommend an appropriate course of action to resolve it. In a profession that requires such extensive education, it is shocking to me how difficult it has been to find a capable and competent physician, but Dr. Harper is that physician. I have no doubt in his capabilities as my visit was by far the best experience I have yet had with any physician at Beth Israel. I would recommend him without hesitation.

Stoneham 8 floor for post surgery recovery issues (not from bidmc). The nursing staff was amazing! I have never been more taken care of. The PCT staff is awesome as well! Specifically, shout out to Lillian! She worked with me to make me feel in control of my recovery. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Dr. Davis is highly skilled doctor. He is an excellent diagnostician and a perceptive communicator who listens well and reviews your chart before seeing you. I requested to see him when my knee acted up again - I had seen him a few times 10-15 years ago and his diagnoses and advice was always spot on. The experience this week with Dr. Davis was just as excellent, he is very gifted. He is also an extremely nice person who seems completely comfortable in his work, not burdened by it.

I've gone to this hospital to see many doctors for years and always left disappointed. When I first had back pain when running I went to physical therapy for a full year and they couldn't figure out what it was. I had a tilted pelvis that was obvious from my first visit with a chiropractor because one of my shoulders was higher than the other. I went to allergy department and everything went fine until my insurance didn't cover the medication. My doctor ignored my messages and phone calls. I went to sleep apnea and my doctor was perfectly fine with interrupting my appointment to do other things but when I asked him to email me some information through our phone appointment, he couldn't and then cancelled my next appointment. This hospital treats its patients like another number. I would rather go to Mass General Hospital.

Been to phy therapy a few times, just felt kinda low quality here. Large gaps in therapy due to poor availability, desk workers always seem annoyed to help you book appointments. Pretty basic procedures of therapy too compared to other places

Dr, Robert G: Davis , is amazing. He has such presence he puts you at ease. He listens and explains answers to all your question. If it were not for him I would not be walking well at all. He caught things in my knee no others did. And for that I am for ever grateful. He is an asset to the Harvard Medical University community. And I send everyone I know with knees problems to him. Truly an Amazing Doctor. Sincerely, Craig W Swanson

Dr. K and her surgical team did an amazing job with my surgery and postoperative care. Everyone genuinely cared about my well being. I looked forward to seeing the team every morning as they checked on me and then the regular visits throughout the day. The nursing staff was also amazing as they provided top notch care throughout each day of my staff. BIDMC is a truly amazing place and a great place to get serious medical issues addressed.

Great Doctor and Staff to work with. Removed my cancer and still cancer free 3 years later. Extremely helpful and has answered all my questions and then some. She is a doctor who actually cares about her patients unlike my PCP . I would Highly Recommend Dr Megan E. Anderson and her staff.

Dr Davis and his team provided stellar care. He was compassionate, listened to all of my concerns and reassured me. He then got me in for surgery less than one week later. From the moment I was up and walking, the intense, crippling knee pain I had been living with for 5 years was gone. Within 2 weeks I was up and walking more than a mile per day, unassisted. Before surgery, at 54 years old, my life had become the sphere of my one bedroom condo, with all shopping done online and grocery deliveries due to my inability to walk, or sleep without excruciating pain. He gave me my life back, and I am so grateful!! I recommend him to everyone.

Dr. Pittman is an "up front" doctor, is personable and makes you feel like you've know him for years. The kind of doctor you can trust. Every other staff I was involved with were great. My experience in the Dedham office was more like a good time than an appointment.

I will always be grateful to Dr. Scott A. Shainker, and all the nurses here. I gave birth on 8 August 2018. My doctor was Scott A. Shainker. Words seem inadequate to express my gratitude for what he has done for me. He was the most awesome, most friendly, most humble, most smiling, most sympathetic, and a very talented doctor. I am so lucky to have been his patient. Thank you so much to him, his awesome team, all the awesome and very special NURSES and NICU. I would like to thank BIDMC Hospital for its excellent service. Best regards.

Dr. Wixted is special: a careful, thoughtful, and artful surgeon. I also find him to be very insightful and responsive. The longer we have known each other, the better my care has become. For example, he now knows that I like to have things explained in greater detail. He complies and I am appreciative.

Do not give birth here!! All except 2 staff I had were extremely rude and emotional. I had an emergency c-section and could barely do anything for myself, sometimes waiting over an hour for help. My son went without a green tag (security tag) around his foot (he could have left the building). My first lactation nurse was EXTREMELY aggressive with my son it was demonic-like. I was NOT prescribed my after care meds, and when I tried to they said it was “too late”. I didn’t leave with my paper worker either because “the registrations office was closed”. I can’t even count how many errors I saw. This place truly is filled with negativity I did not feel comfortable here at all. I should have listened when told, DO NOT GIVE BIRTH HERE!!

I recently had a visit for my knee arthritis with Dr. Robert Davis and staff at BIDMC. I cannot give enough praise for how I was treated from check in to check out! The radiologist that took my x-rays using state of the art equipment; Dr. Davis and his assistant were kind and respectful, I never felt that he was in a hurry to get to another patient, as in other hospitals. All my questions were answered, and I was treated and given a treatment plan. Very happy with Dr. Davis and staff, and my visit to BIDMC Orthopedic Department.

The two Physicians I meet yesterday, the resident, and Dr DeAngelis, were extraordinary in their personal care and attention. They were reassuring, in that they evidenced great competence and knowledge, but most importantly for me, they were kind, compassionate and wonderfully human and easy to be with. I could not have been more pleased with my visit.

I would recommend Dr Grannatt to anyone. She did an awesome job rebuilding my rotator cuff and bicep tears. No swelling nor pain. She is a good listener, and takes plenty of time to explain injury, operation, and recovery. Besides, she is super nice. She did a great job. Was also very happy with the kind treatment that I received from the nursing staff at the time of my surgery. Everyone was very nice and the nurse taking care of me was exceptionally compassionate.

The Chelsea BIDMC site is fabulous! I had never been there before. Easy to get an appointment there with my Sports Medicine doctor. Much easier than getting one in Brookline or Chestnut Hill. Easy to drive to (Early morning appointment) from downtown Boston where I live. Plenty of free parking. And best of all, a very smiling, friendly, patient-oriented staff from the receptionist to the radiologist to the doctor. A t star visit!

There’s not enough room here to write how wonderful this doctor is! Knee replacement… Virtually, no scar! Offers his personal cell if you need to speak to him. Response time is within the hour from him. No nonsense kind of doctor. Tells you it like it is but in a friendly and professional manner. Makes you feel like he really does care about you. “Snappiest & dapper… dressing, doctor I’ve ever seen in my life!” he absolutely sparkles when he walks into a room😁 and it’s funny to boot!

Six hours so far. Can barely move my arm. Got an X-ray that shows nothing as expected. No ice or ibuprofen. No doctor. Literally would have been better off staying home where I could have at least been icing. If I wasn’t going to be treated or diagnosed, I could have at least done it at home.

World class medical complex in Boston. There are multiple buildings and multiple parking garages, so you need to know ahead of time which building and which floor has your doctor. There are information desks to ask for help. Parking is expensive. I got a video of a flight for life chopper.

Alex is one of the best providers I've dealt with in my almost 50 years on this planet. She took the time to explain things thoroughly and also asked plenty of questions to help fill in the blanks. She offered her hypothesis about my situation and thoroughly discussed a plan of action. Many practitioners don't take the time to do many of these things that I just mentioned and get you out the door within 15 minutes. Alex exemplifies what it's like to be a caregiver, and I would absolutely recommend her to anyone. I feel blessed that she's on my care team. Thank you.

Barb, Jaclyn, and Olivia were exceptional in their care for my wife and newborn daughter in the maternity ward. My wife delivered Monday the 4th, and we had to stay until Friday the 8th. During our stay I felt like we were the only patients in the whole maternity ward. They were all so caring and fun, the whole experience was just so far above anything I could've ever hoped for. If this message gets to you guys, I just want to say thank you again!

Great place for medical services. Their ER IS at times awful. They tell your to come to ER via your MD office for services. Get there. Sit in que for 2±hrs then get into ER area, tell story. The Doctor's and Nurses at Beth Israel Boston ICU are Amazing! They have kept me informed of my father's status since February 9th. My father has covid pneumonia and is 84 years old. They had already been giving him oxygen up to 100 percent.when one of the doctor's was concerned that my dad might require ventilation he was nice enough to do a video call before that took place.Well that didn't happen and my father is slowly recovering and complaining about the liquid diet.Thats what's up!!

I met Dr Sammy for the first time and was extremely impressed. He was compassionate and caring and explained everything so I could understand the situation. He was more concerned about me instead of rushing on to the next patient. Literally a “Diamond in the Rough”…..

I spent a month on the antenatal floor and everyone was incredible! There was only one nurse I requested to never care for me again in our entire time there. Nurses, Doctors, Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists, EVERYONE was amazing!

I recently had my second knee replacement at Beth Israel Hospital. I cannot sing the praises of the nurses and staff at the hospital enough. In particular, the expertise and compassion of Dr. Robert Davis and his Physician's Assistant, Lia Moceri, were second to none. Thank you to all for my ability to walk without pain!

I had a very very good experience at BIDM. Went in totally unexpectedly for an inflamed and horribly infected knee... the doctors, nurses and staff were super helpful, professional, timely manner, kind, courteous, respectful....I would recommend BIDM to anyone for any medical impairment big or small. I /we are truly lucky to live in Massachusetts/Boston where we have literally THE BEST doctors and nurses and hospitals in the world!! I am very grateful!! BTW, the food service/quality is out of this world good!! I really miss the meals:) Kudos to all of you for such a great job!!!

Dr. Hezel was great as always. He has great skill. His treatment for my tennis elbow was perfection as well as for both of my trigger fingers. Highly recommend!

Dr DeAngelis is amazing! He truly cares about his patients. From my first visit he was present with me, he listened, explained things (so anyone can understand). His interactions with me has been nothing but positive. He's a true gem of a doctor. More should learn from him. I highly recommend Dr DeAngelis and his awesome team to everyone needing help with their shoulder.

😠 Would suggest patients to avoid this hospital and go to one of the area's many better facilities. The Carney is very under-resourced, the staff is jaded and unhelpful, the nurses are rude, the doctors can be hard to reach, and the patient care is sub-standard. We are facing frustrating issues there...

😠 My daughter had a double jaw surgery and her care was absolutely awful. She would ring the call light and they would hang up on her. The nurses barely checked on her. When I went to visit her, her blankets were full of vomit. I had to ask a few times for new ones. She is allergic to milk yet every m...

😠 I’ve always praised Tufts for their competent staff. Any time I had any health issue, they’ve always been able to help me figure it out when no one else could. But my most recent experience changed my overall opinion about this hospital and the quality of their staff. First of all, I could not get...

😠 I've been a patient for 22 years. Back then Fenway was a lifeline and a beacon for those of us in the LGBTQ community. They had a 5star staff and the doctors were incredible. But today it is so bad I sometimes question the competence of those treating me. I will say that my doctor there now is a...
