I
was
a
patient
at
Atrius
Health
for
several
years
and
when
my
PCP
retired,
I
decided
to
switch
to
Beth
Israel
due
to
the
convenience
of
their
locations
and
the
fact
that
switching
to
them
would,
in
theory,
allow
me
to
see
a
few
specialists
who
weren't
covered
in
my
prior
plan.
This
was
a
big
mistake
on
my
part.
Accessing
care
as
a
new
patient
at
Beth
Israel
has
been
frustratingly
difficult.
First,
they
don't
keep
their
directories
updated
enough
and
the
first
few
PCPs
whom
I
asked
to
see
(all
of
whom
were
shown
as
accepting
new
patients)
were,
in
fact,
not
taking
new
patients.
Upon
finally
getting
set
up
with
another
doctor,
I
tried
to
get
registered
on
the
PatientSite
online
portal,
only
to
learn
that
you
can't
use
this
until
you've
had
an
introductory
appointment
with
your
PCP.
So,
after
calling
and
being
transferred
through
multiple
channels,
I
was
quoted
a
4
month
wait
to
see
the
new
PCP
whom
I
selected
and
my
only
option
for
a
sooner
appointment
was
to
see
one
of
this
doctor's
residents.
The
resident
whom
I
saw
via
video
chat
was
thorough
and
pleasant
to
work
with,
but
things
got
worse
when
I
followed
up
with
the
BIDCM
dermatology
department
to
set
up
a
melanoma
screening
(I
have
a
family
history.)
I
was
quoted
a
*half
year*
wait
to
see
anyone
on
the
dermatology
team.
There
was
no
cancellation
waiting
list
to
get
on,
and
when
I
called
my
PCP's
office
to
ask
them
for
alternative
options,
there
basic
response
was
"Well,
what
do
you
expect
us
to
do?"
I
found
this
really
upsetting
because
during
my
initial
visit
with
the
resident,
I
had
specifically
cited
some
skin
issues
I
had
been
dealing
with
and
they
had
told
me
to
reach
out
to
dermatology
after
the
appointment.
Out
of
curiosity,
I
called
my
old
provider's
office
at
Atrius
to
see
what
their
PCP
and
specialist
wait
times
were
like
(Covid
is
straining
the
health
care
system,
after
all)
and
it
was
a
completely
different
picture.
Far
more
appointment
availability
than
what
I'd
experienced
at
Beth
Israel.
The
receptionist
I
spoke
with
there
was
shocked
when
I
told
her
about
the
dermatologist
wait
time
I'd
been
quoted.
As
of
today,
I'm
in
the
processing
of
working
with
the
Health
Connector
to
switch
back
to
Atrius
Health
and
one
of
their
PCPs.
I
regret
wasting
two
months
attempting
to
become
a
patient
at
BIDCM.
Trying
to
receive
health
care
here
has
been
a
series
of
hurdles
that,
in
my
mind,
negate
any
benefits
to
be
reaped
from
being
a
patient
amid
BIDMC's
admittedly
impressive
network
of
doctors.
What
good
is
that
if
you
can't
see
anyone
in
a
timely
manner?
