This used to be a good restaurant. We used to regularly take out. Ever since management changed, the taste isn't great and the quantity has been reduced by half. I don't pay $13 to get a container of sabzi that is the same quantity of free sambar that you get with idli. Kept going back hoping it's a one time thing. But alas not. Why does this happen to all good Indian restaurants

Updating my review, when there again and place gone even better, prices are still low compare to other Indian restaurants. Dosa night on every Wednesday @ $14.99 is a steal !!! And buffet everyday ! .

Average South Indian restaurant with not that great taste! We order the chana bhatura and podi masala dosa! Chana bhatura was nice and crispy, good level of spice . Podi masala dosa wasn’t that great! Podi powder was 👎 so was the masala.

They were friendly and accommodating. There were 9 of us walking in without reservation and they found the tables for us. Food was fantastic, so tasty. The entire group was vegan so the staff was very attentive and helpful.

Had very high expectations from this place, but was disappointed to know that they don't have filter coffee. The masala tea was okay too, felt like the tea was way too much soaked, and the masala wasn't really enough. Would recommend the butter masala dosa though.

I went on a sunday evening and they served unlimited buffet. Note: Vegetarian food only! Noodles and Shahi paneer was spicy. Buffet included unlimited dosas served piping hot on the table. Chikoo shake was more of icecream shake with less chikoo in it. Badam (Almond) milk was served warm. Rasam was bit down( it had excess of coriander powerdish taste ) and no sign of tamarind in it. Apart from flaws they food was decent.

The dosa night: In terms of quantity it’s quite satisfying, however, the quality of the dosa was not up to the mark at all. The chocolate dosa that they offered was absolutely below average. Service was real quick and highly satisfactory. I must have to admit.

We went to Udupi Bhavan (one of our favourites) after a long time. But this new management has changed the whole experience. Thay took 50 minutes to serve 2 dosa and 1 uttapam on a not too busy weeknight. And the taste was so mediocre. I tried chat buffet, but it was not that good also. I'd not go there again in the near future.

Quality of food and options down the drain. 15 dollar buffet for Rock-hard Idlis, Burnt Chapati, Mirchi Bajji, Tamarind rice ( Cmmon Seriously), white rice, semiya kheer, some curries. Very disappointing options and not close to what I have known upupi bhavan for previously.

Clarification in response to the owner's comment: This review is for the Udupi Bhavan in Lowell MA. The staff at the restaurant told me that this has been taken over by (and will soon be rebranded as) "Dosa & Curry" During our visit, the dessert was payasam during the intitial half hour. But the quantity was only sufficient for 3 of us (party of 6). After a long wait, the staff provided halwa for the others. This halwa tasted awful, and was inedible. My family and I have eaten at this restaurant before the COVID waves, and the food was excellent, the buffet was sumptuous, the service was commendable. Not any more!! I see no reason to remove my honest review. Original Post: This is one of the WORST dining experiences I've ever had. The buffet hardly had any choice, but even those half a dozen dishes were very infrequently replenished. They ran out of the house the only dessert on the buffet table within the first half hour!! The food was loaded with hot peppers, so you really can't eat too much. The most memorable points of our meal : 1. Limited selection 2. Low quantities 3. Long waits, and several requests are needed to have the dishes replenished 4. The only dessert on the buffet table, runs out within the first hour, and will not be replenished 5. Food is low on taste but very high in hot spices and peppers 6. The place is now known as Dosa & Curry 7. Enter at your own risk!!

Great south Indian food. We had dosa, idli and dahi vada. The food was tasty, not very spicy. The menu was limited to vegetarian options. They were accommodating of our friend's dietary requirement. Definitely we will be back.

NEVER EVER TRY THIS - WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.. you will 100% get disappointed…. Ordered BISIBELI bath, curd rice and veggie platter.. I never tested this kind of worse food ever.. Curd rice.. they just add little curd in basmati rice and still looks plain white rice.. 0 rating .. BisiBele Bath- they just mix idle sambar on basmati rice and they are calling as BISIBELI BATH- 0 rating.. Veggie Platter— they just provided leftover fried FOOD and no vada and samosa— 0 rating…. They charged me 5 star restaurant price and served with ZERO … I just trashed the food… never recommend .. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY…

Had mysore masala dosa and Udipi special dosa. Both the coconut and tomato chutneys are okay-ish. The ambience is decent but the washrooms are terrible. Overall it's an okay kind of place. Plenty of parking spots though.

Visited this place for lunch from PA. The quality is below par, the quantity of the food is good. But I simply couldn't eat it. The sambhar was spicy with oil floating on the top. The dosa was dry and not hot, the only dish I liked was the yogurt rice. Visit this when you don't have options at all. But I would go to a better place.

The management of this place has changed. Now operated by some North Indian folks and chef as well. Disclaimer: I am a North Indian myself, and having lived in US now for over two decades have figured out that in most cases, South Indian food is not good at North Indian restaurant, and vice versa. We went to this place due to the South Indian name, and the South Indian food was super disappointing. The utthapam was like a pizza. Sambar was super wanteless. The only thing good was the the dosa crust. The masala was simply aloo with no flavor. I will never go there again. The new owners should change the name and convert to a North Indian restaurant.

To start with the food, the paper masala was decent and filling but the Udupi special dosa was pretty bland. The coconut chutney was nothing special and the tomato chutney was not good. While the service is good and ambience is decent, the cleanliness of the washrooms was terrible.
