I have used the out patient services of Mass General for 45 years. My recent experiences with the Urology Department were so unprofessional and medically/administratively disappointing that I am required share them with others. Following a period of discomfort and an appointment with my PCP, I received a referral to the Urology Department at Mass General. The earliest available appointment was 7 weeks out which I made and requested that I be put on a cancellation list in case a sooner appointment became available. While at Whole Foods 10 days later, I stopped in upstairs to inquire about the cancellation list only to be told that I was not on it. The two people at the desk were totally unaware of how to enter my information and called upon a woman from the back who entered the information immediately. The next day I received a call that a sooner appointment was available in three days which I took. What followed was an appointment for a procedure about which I received NO advance information, was quite painful and lacked the necessary amount of anesthesia and skill. The next appointment with another doctor who specialized in the area where I was to be treated took place in the presence a few residents who were being instructed on my situation. When I attempted to ask the doctor a question, I was abruptly shut off as the instruction to the residents continued. To say I was treated condescendingly would be a vast understatement. I reported the foregoing to my PCP who recommended that I visit the Patient Advocacy office at Mass General and share my experience. I declined to do this but received a referral to the Urology Department at another Boston hospital where I now receive care and treatment on a significantly more professional level. One wonders why there are so many poor reviews for this department.

I would give my doctor 5 stars if possible. However the office is unprofessionally run. Every time I call I end up be put on hold for a minimum of 25 minutes before I can even speak to a receptionist. For one of the highest rated hospitals in this region it’s un acceptable the I end up having to wait that long to speak to someone, it deters me from even bothering. Unfortunately I imagine that these reviews have little to no effect on management...

I went to MassGen because I viewed them as the best based solely on reputation of the hospital. I can honestly say, if you’re looking for a urologist who focuses on anything but cancer (at least for men) you should go elsewhere. The doctor I ended up seeing (after a few trips to the ER because of the pain I was in) was abrasive, dismissive and combative while also doing an exam that might have well been via telehealth for all its thoroughness. He further couldn’t answer my questions regarding his recommendations (since I had ultrasounds that were inconclusive except to say I didn’t have what he said I did) and refused to recommend anyone else I could get a second opinion from. I ended up finding someone else who, after taking a thorough history and doing an exam that lasted more than 15 seconds, found I had two things wrong - one of which was an inguinal hernia which, honestly, I think most interns could find if they actually tried. Then, when I reported it to the so-called “patient advocate” line - they put it to someone in the urology department to review who, since they only looked at the same records as Dr.Nehra, and didn’t do an exam either, felt that his recommendations made sense. Steer clear. In other words, I was treated poorly, my care was delayed and their “solution” was to tell the doctor to be nicer next time.

5 stars for my doctor, 1 star for the organization and the service staff. It's like they are writing appointments on little post-its and sticking them on their own personal calendars, or have computer from the 1990's. When your doctor says you will be getting a call to schedule something, I have a 50% chance of never getting a call.

Good luck getting through the horrendous call center. On hold for 40 minutes and then dealing with an individual that is not knowledgeable nor interested in helping ill patients! After 20 years of care at MGH Urology, I will be transferring to the Beth Israel. Dr. Peter Slavin will be notified!

Rescheduled twice by office for procedure. Second time after reaching out to doctor with pre-op question to find out they were not even in town the day the office had scheduled the procedure for. No idea if their clinical skills are up to snuff, their organizational issues are front and center.

The delay in my dad's surgery after being told by his doctor that 3 weeks wouldn't make a difference KILLED him! If you love your family member STAY AWAY from this place!

Was on the phone for 35 minutes; registered as a new patient and got an available time/date. Called back with a question, then told I was not a patient and didn't have a scheduled time. Complete mystery apparently, and they're unable to look at call histories with patients OR connect me with an admin directly from the urology office. Outstanding unprofessionalism. 10/10 would NOT recommend.

The secretary and admin of urology was unprofessional, purposefully neglectful (avoiding calls, claiming they don’t have my insurance info when registration confirmed they did more than once), not returning calls. It was as if they were intentionally driving away patients. Don’t go here.

FANTASTIC. Dr. Kim performed a complex procedure to diminish the size of my prostate. Dr. Kim's explanations including drawings to illustration my inner workings and detailed in a few different ways how, what and where and how much she would cut or laser interior areas of my prostate to improve my urinary functions. At age 77 the procedure was a cake walk. Absolute minimum amount of discomfort. Zero medication after the procedure. Total and complete success in 6 weeks after the procedure. Additionally every single person I encountered before, during my many visits and during and after my surgery was FANTASTIC. Where these 30 stars to aware her and her practice I would award them thankfully.

Dr Massicotte performed my surgery. He and his team are the best . Even though I was cranky he understood my pain. I feel great 3 hours later. MGH is the only place to go.

😠 Not a great hospital experience. Husband went into Emergency Department and had to get an appendectomy. The aftercare at the hospital was not great; he did not feel like the nurses or doctor were very attentive to his needs. For his follow-up appointment, the doctor was not at all familiar with his...

😠 My daughter had a double jaw surgery and her care was absolutely awful. She would ring the call light and they would hang up on her. The nurses barely checked on her.
