I went there recently for extreme leg pain, referred there by my Pain Management doctor. I was excited when I finally got there. The Doctor, unnamed, I saw, for about 9 minutes, told me that my leg pain was coming from my hip, not my back and referred me to his Hip doctor. I did not believe him, I have been living with this pain for too long to think it was my hip, although I do have hip issues. So I asked my pain management doctor for another referral. He then sent me to Tufts Medical Center and set me up with Bostons best Neurosurgeon. That doctor told me he found the issue on my spine and gave me a 70% chance that he could fix it. He Fixed my leg pain, something that New England Baptist couldn't do. Tufts found a Bone spur pushing against my leg nerves. Thank you Dr Riesenburger at Tufts! You changed my life!

Do NOT EVER send a senior here for an operation. Some of the Nurses are abusive and the Drs show no care for the emotional well being of seniors. My Mother was here a week ago and was completely traumatized by her experience. Her surgeon abs his team were amazing thankfully- the Drs and nurses she had were AWFUL! I am lodging a formal complaint.

While I am not a patient my wife was. She had hip replacement surgery. The Dr. was the best but I must state that the care after the surgery has left a lot to be desired. While I was there she buzzed the nurse for assistance to get out of bed to go to the bathroom. About 10 minutes later someone finally showed up to help. When she got up I noticed feces on the bed. The NA and my wife returned. The NA could see the feces but disregarded it and went to put her back in the bed feces and all. Seriously???? fresh surgical scar and all. What about the risk of infection? Then I noticed the bed was soaking wet as her ice pack had leaked. If I had not been there they were prepared to not have done anything. I said something to the NA and eventually had to take this to the Nurse!! to get her bedding changed. I cant imagine what would have happened had I not been there!

Very negative opinion about the office of Dr. James Bono of New England Baptist Hospital. On the recommendation from our neighbors who had a surgery in this hospital, we turned to the office of Dr. J.Bono for a consultation in regards to my wife’s right knee joint issues. 1. The office asked for a disk with a knee X-Ray. Later we got a call from the office - the disk is ‘broken’. Although, even to a person without any medical education, the degree of damage to the knee joint is clearly visible. (Before sending the disk to the office, I have looked at the picture). 2. They demanded to send a new disk. 3. Sent a new disk. Now it turned out that insurance was not suitable. Although, my wife has both Medicare and Masshealth insurance that covers most if not all the surgeries. My opinion. The hospital selects patients on grounds that are incomprehensible to me. Thus, in my opinion, claiming that this is an elite medical institution. And this does not in any way correspond to the information that you get acquainted with when describing the services of the hospital. Dear future patients, please be careful when choosing New England Baptist Hospital to treat your medical problems.

My husband had a complete knee replacement at NEBH recently and I have to say how friendly the staff was. Every staff member we came in contact with was so caring and nice. I would like to mention J Kerr in pre-op, and also Darlene and Daniella on the floor. Keep up the GREAT work!

Great surgeon, terrible outpatient service. Spent 20 minutes sitting in outpatient care filling out the same paperwork they make you fill out over the phone 24 hours prior to your arrival. Also, the physicians assistant working in Radiology was incompetent. She didn't know how to perform X-rays and did not know how to move the machine properly. I spent 30 minutes waiting for this PA to perform the most basic of tasks. In addition, the wait was over an hour. If it wasn't for my surgeon there is no way I would step foot in here again.

At first glance I thought it was an older building. Then I walked in and was amazed at how nice it was. I've been going there for my back since 2013 and I'll never go anywhere else. The staff are wonderful and we'll trained on all the new procedures in orthopedics. It's policy is a hands on approach versus letting automated systems replace people. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone in search of back surgery or any other type of orthopedic surgery. I've had other surgeries in the past but they pale in comparison to this place! Do your own research, but this place far exceeded my expectations!

Hi, I was scheduled for knee replacement surgery on 28th February 2020. I went to NEBH for my prescreening on 19th February, expecting an exam, and maybe a couple of blood tests. I was a new patient, In fact I didnt even know this hospital existed until I met my surgeon. As I arrived at NEBH, I did expect two to five hours there, because it was clearly explained to me. That my prescreening would be at Least two hours. So on 19th February I had a thorough medical history going over, and I had some tests, they did an EKG, and some blood work. They did xrays of my knees, they saw that my results Needed some extra visits with a NP. Who spent two hours with me , i saw another orthopedic/spine doctor, and they had me see one of their cardiologists, because my cardiologist wasnt available at that time. I was treated like royalty , and was very impressed with my prescreening . It was a long day, but the staff went over my full medical history and did an awesome job of making me feel welcome. On the 28th of February , my original surgery date, I had to be at the hospital for 10.00am. So we arrived around eight thirty. I registered, and because we were told my surgery would be at 1.00pm, I expected to go down to the prep area at that time. I was called in earlier and got to be well cared for during my prep time. I'd mentioned on the day of my prescreening, that I had a urine infection.i'd been on antibiotics though. They explained that I'd be on IV antibiotics, because that was a normal part of the surgery. All patients were given IV antibiotics. So I went through the prep time, and had gotten all my preperation done. My IV was placed, I met my doctor, and was really impressed, that he was on time. He arrived at twenty minutes to one. Unfortunately at the very last minute my surgery was cancelled. But it was for a really good reason. I still had the urine infection . At the time we had also heard that covid 19 was in the USA, but as yet it hadn't started spreading. Or wasn't a threat. So I go home, and my surgery is cancelled three more times because of covid 19 starting to spread. I shared my story because my experience with the medical staff was awesome. They took great care of me, even though my surgery got cancelled. I'm supposed to be rescheduled for 24th June 2020 now, but I'm not sure if it is going to happen, because of the restrictions with covid 19. I wanted everyone who reads this though , to know, that everyone was very professional and treated me so wonderfully, yes I was disappointed that I could have already been recovered from My surgery by now. But I am also glad that I experienced such awesome care. Thankyou Dr Pugliano and your team for showing me how special I was, on both days. You will all be well cared for at NEBH. I wish you all, who read this A very speedy recovery, and all the best with your surgery. This hospital is wonderful.

The billing department can't get their billing straight. I'm supposed to be charged $22.00 for a visit. They forgot to clear this with my insurance so instead charged me $200.00! After spending an entire afternoon with Billing and my insurance co, Billing apologized for the error stated I owe $22.00. Fast forward 90 days, and I just got notified by a collection agency that they are coming after me for the $200.00! There goes another afternoon of my time wasted correcting NEBH's mistakes, while trying to preserve my credit rating.

Dr. Anthony Schena is a fantastic surgeon! Nancy M. - 2 thumbs up. Entire staff was/is amazing. Very pleasant and helpful. Had no issues throughout the process from check-in to checkout. 4 stars because food and drink are allowed in waiting area that includes surgical patients that are/have been fasting....

Had spinal fusion in spring 2021 with Dr. Eric Woodard. Two spinal bones had been fractured during insertion of rods and screws. I was in unbearable pain. Learned that Baptist had new policy to limit pain medication. Given only Valium for first day. During recovery, I immediately noticed that most nurses were angry and inaccessible. I was told confidentiality that their hours had been cut 30%, entire floors shut down, and they were being treated horribly by supervisors. It was a toxic environment. Terrible experience from pre-op to discharge.

If I could give Dr Lederman 0 stars I would. He was so unprofessional and had zero empathy I've ever encountered with a Dr. He got up and headed for the door while I was still taking to him! The person in the waiting room said boy that was quick! I bet he charged my insurance for a 40 min visit when I was there for about 6 minutes. Never again He was very rude and arrogant!!

I had a lower back spine surgery here (L3,L4,L5) in July 2018. Dr. Nicolas Marcotte performed my surgery. He was so nice! He fully explained everything he was going to do and made sure I understood everything. A lot of doctors just treat you like a number and another paycheck....Dr. Marcotte doesn't do that, he treats you like a person and understands that you are in excruciating pain. Everyone in his office is extremely nice and helpful. They always answer the phone and if for some reason they don't, they call you right back. I had to stay overnight, all the nurses that took care of me went above and beyond to make sure that I was ok and as comfortable as possible. I highly recommend this hospital and Dr. Marcotte and his team. When I need another back surgery I will be going back to him.

I was dumped by Dr. Frank Rand of the Spine Center because my spine issues worsened after I had gotten rear ended and my csr totaled last year. None of the surgeons and neurologists at NEBH accept car accident victims, the discimination is demoralizing. I won't get a dime out of the guy who hit me due to his lousy insurance, the medical expenses are killing us, and having to swallow the disdain and coldblooded rejection by Dr. Rand brought me to the brink of suicide. "Well, you could use walking sticks" was the response I got to hardly being able to walk anymore. And when I asked him why he now says No when 10 months ago he had said Yes but I had to lose some weight, all he said was "you are not in shape for this." No followup was scheduled. He never asked about my weight, even though I have dropped 10 hard fought-over pounds which is hard to do when you can't walk. I don't consider a man a doctor when he forgets the hippocratoc oath "First, do no harm." And I would never trust him again after this devastating and humiliating visit. I will now have to start all over again at Mass General in hopes to find more compassion there. And if I get no help there either, I will have no choice but to end me to escape this torturous pain. I had hung on by my fingernails for this appointment which took three months to get just to be discarded like garbage, and I simply don't know how much longer I can hold on.

Feb 2 2022 was our second experience at New England Baptist Hospital. I’m an Rn in western MA and my husband has multiple issues with his joints and muscles due to a birth injury. This hospital gives impeccable care and safety to each patient. I don’t like the drive to Boston but they are so on top of everything it is the only place to go. My son had open heart surgery in Springfield and I could not convince him to go to Boston. He had terrible nursing care; ICU nurses with 4 fresh open heart patients. He literally almost stroked there when he was given too much epi and his BP was 280 over 210. At Baptist they keep their nurse patient ratios safe and DO NOT deviate from their standards. Kudos to NEBH and Dr James Narius. A heartfelt thank you to you all, Dale & Karyn Philibotte

I had to have a Chest CT with contrast ordered by my pulmonologist. My insurance provider referred me to NEBH for the procedure. After several phone calls from both my pulmonologist and Cigna the appointment was finally authorized for coverage and I was told to report to the hospital 30 minutes early so that a serum BUN and Cr could be checked prior to receiving contrast. All of that was done as necessary BUT when I went to the CT suite to have the CT with contrast done I was told THE RADIOLOGIST DECIDED I DID NOT NEED A CT WITH CONTRAST AND REFUSED TO PERFORM THE PROCEDURE. I never spoke to or was examined by this radiologist. They had no medical history or past imaging reports upon which to base this decision. I have been a physician for 40 years and I can tell anyone thinking about going to this hospital that they should find another hospital - fast!!

I was very dissappinted with this operating threater. It was all about money. They wanted your co pay prepaid before procedure $33 to park Zero communication with patients significant other. I was literally left in the dark for 6 hours. Took 7 phone calls all bounced me back to another department that bounce me back to the original. I personally would never recommend this facility to anyone

My overall experience with New England Baptist I would rate them a 9 out 10. Very professional. I chose Dr. Eric Woodard for my neck surgery. And as painstakingly things were we all worked together. I've been in and out of hospitals since youth in a few other states as well as others here in New England. Let's face it no one, as a patient, wants to go to any hospital and they're all going to be a pain in the ***! End result I highly recommend them to anybody. Robert Alger

I had a total hip replacement in September 2023 & I can't say enough about the whole experience! Every staff member I dealt with was friendly and professional including security, maintenance, housekeeping, food/nutrition services, nurses, aides, physicians, p/t, technicians, etc. The whole process from pre-screening to discharge was easy, yet thorough. pre-screening was great, they check you into an exam room and for the most part, everyone comes to you there: nurse practitioner, pharmacy, ekg, p/t, etc. The facility is clean, safe and comfortable. I highly recommend NEBH to anyone needing joint replacement.

The doctors and staff are absolutely fantastic. The one disappointment and mystery was why the case worker sent my wife to Aberjona Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Winchester. Not only 1 hour drive from where we live, but the place is basically a nursing center trying to make some income on rehab. Several staff were fantastic but the overall place is depressing and many of the daily nursing and care staff appear to be underpaid and lack any empathy. My suggestion is to retrain the case worker. Why the N E Baptist recommends Aberjona is a mystery - unless the decision is money/profit driven

I had a knee replacement in July of 2016. I was so happy, from start to finish with my experience. Everyone was so professional, caring and attentive from the registration people, educational training people, dr Talmo and his staff, hospital nurses on the unit, and PT people. Would highly recommend this facility!!!!

Very nice hospital specializing in orthopedics. Inpatient admissions are available and the accommodations are very nice, almost luxury clinic feel. Compared to other hospitals, which have crowded wards, shared rooms and not enough staff, NE Baptist is honestly a breath of fresh air. Modern, and new rooms, fantastic and friendly staff and medical professionals who are very happy to serve patient needs. My wife never felt as though they were ever short staffed or that any corners were ever cut. Always plenty of nurses present. Great hospital!

Overnight at NEBH for a total hip replacement, my other hip after the first was successfully replaced 3 months ago. Both surgeries by Dr. Talmo were completely successful, no, that’s not doing them justice! I have a life back! Pain in both legs prevented me from exercising and work which I love. Now I can resume both without restriction in just a matter of weeks! But I also have eternal thanks to the support staff from Dr. Talmo’s office (Tara) to all the hospital nurses - kind, expert, and excellent customer care. Even Loraine from room service was my personal cheer leader, encouraging me with her positivity and care and such warmth! I’ve been dealing with this problem with many doctors over many years and finally NEBH took care if it, exceeding all expectations.

Just had meniscus surgery. Cannot rave enough about how I was treated at the Baptist. Extremely happy with my surgeon, Anthony Schena, who did a fantastic job of fixing my knee and taking away that horrible pain! Even more important the staff. Starting from the friendly, efficient people in the reception area who greeted me at 5:45 in the morning. The nurses who prepped me and who cared for me before and after the surgery. The anesthesia team. Everyone was excellent. As if this first rate care were not enough, they handed me a long stem red rose as I left.

I recently had my left shoulder replaced at The Baptist, and I had the best Nurses ever! I was unable to be discharged because of my pain not under control. My nurse Stacey was jumping thru hoops trying to minimize the pain I was experiencing. I cannot thank her enough for spending so much time trying to make me more comfortable with so much pain. My other RN's like Erika, Allie and Tara were so kind and respectful and super helpful in my stay. My PCA's Hanley and Natasha were so nice and professional in everything they did. PT's Corinne and Amanda were so helpful with information I needed to go home. I learned a few tips from PT that made being home so much easier. I would also like to mention Dr. Ross, and his kindness and explanation of the surgery to be so informative when he showed me how he was to replace my joint. He visited me twice in my two night stay. So nice to have had my Doctor check on me a second time when he found I was spending another night. I cannot thank everyone enough who had a part in my recent experience. This was my 7th procedure thru the Baptist and I would recommend everyone to check you out. Diane Curran Wakefield, MA

I suffered severe back pain for months. After taking drugs that made me sick, ER visits and finally an MRI which showed a ruptured disk I made an appointment with Dr. Adam Harris. After explaining the severity of my problem he sent me to Dr. Brian Kwon. Both doctors were extremely thorough, answered every question my husband and I had, and made us feel very comfortable from the get go. After discussing my options a microdisectomy was scheduled for my L4 L5 rupture. It has been one week since the procedure. I have not had one stitch of pain from the surgery. All of symptoms have disappeared. To me, Dr. Kwon is a miracle worker. I was at my wits end with pain and I didn’t think it would ever go away but Dr. Kwon made it happen. I highly recommend NE Baptist hospital and especially Dr. Harris and Dr. Kwon.

THE GOOD: I had surgery at the Dedham facility and just WOW! First, a BIG SHOUT OUT to my Nurse Jessica Collins. I was so anxious because it was my first time having surgery and this nurse was nothing short of SPECTACULAR! She couldn’t have kept me any more relaxed. From beginning to walking me out to meet me wife, man, she was my WONDER WOMAN. To Dr. Andrew Chapman, man, this guy is just gentleman and a scholar. Gave me thorough instructions and expectations. He’s my recommended orthopedic surgeon. I mean, he’s a 10 star. While in the hospital, the entire team, including the anesthesiologist were so darn great. I just can’t give them enough praise. They lived up to their reputation as the best in the business, in my opinion. THE BAD: The front desk receptionist, some Spanish lady, SHE was the low point of my visit. Just rude and really not a friendly encounter and rude to her co-workers at 6:30am. Don’t care to ever see her again.

I just had a surgery at NE Baptist Hospital. I stayed for a few nights. Sleep loss is a thing! I will say this hospital and staff were top notch all the way. Dr. Stephen Parazin is an excellent surgeon. I was blessed to have his skilled hands take care of me. I was also blessed to receive the high level of care from all the nurses and CNA's. Mike and Liam are terrific RN's. If they're excessively busy you would never know it. They were smart, caring and great at what they do. Christina, my CNA was outstanding! She went out of her way to help me feel at ease. She was very instinctive in her actions and nothing but ahead of any needs I may have had (towels, masks, etc.). She was a true professional. Lisa in PT was another member of this champion crew, full of cheer and positivity! Thank you NEBH and your dedicated staff!

Approximately four years ago I had a total right knee replacement done by Dr. Nairus. Prior to the surgery my knee was turned inside due to the lack of cartilage and whatever else was going on. After the surgery and therapy, in three weeks I felt extremely well, in six weeks, the therapist told me that there was nothing else they could do for me! I was doing exceptionally well. Praise God I am a new woman with a new knee. Thank you Dr. Nairus. Unfortunately, I am diagnosed with RA. Two years ago I had to have a reverse shoulder replacement done by Dr. Jawa. Thank you Dr. Jawa I am no longer in agony my shoulder looks normal and again I am a new woman.

I just had my fifth surgery at NE Baptist, third joint replacement with Dr. James Bono. I would not go anywhere else for joint surgery. I read many of these reviews and notice the negative ones complain about uncaring, unclean. I went for surgery not someone to listen to all my medical issues, surgeons are just that… doing amazing surgery!!!! It is an older facility but I have never found it unclean. I highly recommend the Baptist and Dr Bono.

New England Baptist Hospital has a wonderful reputation for Replacement Surgeries, and now I know why. When I realized I needed a hip replacement, I began researching and NEBH’s name kept coming up. Not only from ads and the internet, but from the mouths of people I knew and people in the street. I wanted the best, and I got it at New England Baptist. Everyone was professional and willing to do whatever needed to be done to make you feel comfortable. I felt very informed in the Pre-Op meeting. Luckily, no Covid, so I could proceed. My surgery was Aug. 14th. This is August 20th, and I will be taking a little walk down my street today for the first time. My recovery is still painful, but not from the surgery, it is getting those muscles to move again. During my stay at NEBH, I was treated very kindly by all of the staff, and in those times when my pain would soar (mainly because I overdid) they were their with their expertise to help me get through. Their jobs aren’t easy especially during Covid, but they were the real thing. You can always tell when you are asking employees how many years have they worked there, and the answers of 15, 19, 29, 24, and 30 years comes back to you, that there is a strong connection and dedication. AND THE FOOD was EXCELLENT! I know not everyone’s recovery will be like mine, but now that I have the time, I would like to personally thank my surgeon, Dr. Sambaziotis, all of the prep nurses, all of the recovery staff ( especially Kelly who pulled me through one of my bouts and Katie with such professionalism), and all of the others assistants, interns, associates, and therapists too numerous to name. They keep NEBH humming. (Literally, many of them hum) To the Best! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Five stars for NEBH and Dr. Kurt Hofmann Unfortunately suffered a devastating Achilles tendon rupture. Went to NEBH for a second opinion upon the recommendation of a doctor friend. Reception at Dedham can become busy but everybody patiently waits as word had gone around among local doctors that NEBH is where you refer patients to get expert orthopedic care. Got to see Dr. Kurt Hofmann. All the five star ratings you read on him are spot on. I was leaning towards non-surgical management but an xray and an Achilles tendon ultrasound (which were never done by the first ortho I saw) showed evidence of previous tears and calcifications on the fully ruptured area. The recommendation was for surgical repair and I was ready for that possibility and intentionally chose Dr. Hofmann as he is trained and experienced in minimally invasive Achilles tendon rupture repair. Got seen for consultation on a Tuesday, went to ambulatory surgery on a Friday. If you value your time NEBH is the place to be. NEBH has a very well oiled system: got to surgical intake at 10 am, got onto bed at 1015 am. Dr. Hofmann did final checks, consents, preps at 1030. Iv lines, vitals, anesthesia clearance afterwards. Nerve block for the leg done 1115 am. Then rolled inside OR at 12 noon and out in the car being driven back home at 3 pm. The staff at NEBH know their stuff and follow gold standard procedures for surgery. After the nerve block which Dr. Hassan expertly applied, received Twilight sedation which is similar sedation when getting a colonoscopy. You are chatting for a bit, fall asleep and when you wake up you are back in recovery. Everyone was very friendly and professional including Francesca the CNA and special kudos to my RN Debbie who went above and beyond including extra heating blankets, life chats and all the ginger ale and cookies you would want post op. Dr. Hofmann immediately communicated post op information to my wife and all questions answered. Post op instructions are clear, prescriptions are relayed electronically, and post operative pain is managed aggressively. Overall, I am highly pleased with my experience at NEBH and Dr. Hofmann and would not hesitate to recommend them to my own family and friends.

My experience at New England Baptist and with the surgeon there, Dr. James Bono, was unprofessional, undeserved, unnecessary and preventable. I developed an internal bleed (hematoma) at home 4 days after knee replacement Dr. Bono's and his nurse's responses to phone calls as this was developing and I was experiencing increasing swelling and pain was to increase pain meds and insistence I did not need to be seen, just move more. When Dr. Bono finally agreed to see me after 5 days and it was determined by him and two colleagues that it as indeed a hematoma thankfully with no infection, they reported that it was caused by a blood thinner that should not have been given to me post surgery. The worse part was that there was no outpatient clinic for the time I spent having the hematoma diagnosed, which involved seeing 3 doctors, having blood work and images. I was left in a wheelchair in the hospital lobby for 7 hours between appointments and tests to diagnose the hematoma and rule out infection, with no pain medication or way to elevate my leg higher than my heart. When the hospital president reviewed my complaint, Dr B claimed he had consulted with my oncologist before starting the blood thinner. There was no record of this in my chart and my oncologist reported she'd not been called before the blood thinner was administered. The president's apology was appreciated but there was no acknowledgement of Dr. Bono's lie about contacting my oncologist or indication of any reprimand. Dr. Bono has never acknowledged my formal grievance or apologized. The lack of a clinic environment or some comfortable or private process for a patient with a post-surgery complication aside from waiting in a lobby in extreme pain with an un-elevated limb felt as if this facility and surgeon shows a total lack of preparedness for post-surgery complications.

I wouldn't bring loved ones here. I worked at this hospital, and unfortunately, my experience was marred by serious safety lapses. Despite my efforts to bring up concerns, the response was dismissive, leading to a concerning lack of attention to patient safety. Instances of incorrect X-rays and surgeries without proper equipment put patients at unnecessary risk, revealing a critical need for reform and prioritization of safety protocols. It's disheartening to witness such issues persist without adequate resolution.

This place is GREAT! Here today for knee replacement and the staff is INCREDIBLE! Made me feel very comfortable. Huge shout out to Ryan, all I remember him saying is there's more 'happy juice' and then waking up in recovery. 🤣 I was so nervous coming in today and now I'm looking forward to returning for my second knee.

Super nice staff, always a parking spot (not always easy to find in Boston!), and their scheduling is on point and on time. Hands down recommended.

Hi I was just a patient. I have been going to the Baptist for several years. This last time I could not believe how dirty the rooms are the bathroom I almost didn’t want to use the restroom the toilet was dirty the sink. Awful. The floors in and out of the bathroom and in my room were dirty. I know you all got bought out I don’t know if that is why the change it used to be very clean.
