Seafood places really know how to gouge you by not listing prices on the menu. "Market price" is often an unpleasant surprise when you receive the bill, as my dozen raw oysters and lobster BLT totaled $107 after tax and tip. That said, the quality was outstanding, and there was a lot of lobster on that BLT. The outdoor seating setup was quite nice on a side street with minimal traffic.

Great oysters and an absolutely delicious lobster roll! Would definitely love to come back! Take a look at the photos, these are pretty large lobster rolls overflowing with lobster! You’ll have trouble keeping it all in the bread, every bite is great!

This was quite a disappointment. I was excited to bring my wife for her birthday lunch and I relied on the menu posted online to ensure there would be entrees other than the fried options referenced by others. I was particularly excited about the bouillabaisse, which, as a stew, seemed reasonable to expect to be available at lunch. But unfortunately when we arrived the only entree options were fried seafood or lobster rolls. I had a Lobster roll, which was adequate but overpriced at $39. My wife had a beet salad which she enjoyed. The raw bar options were okay, and honestly i would have only ordered raw bar options if I’d know their (pretty reasonable) price and the disappointment of the Entrees.

Can't say enough good things about this place! The raw bar is consistently fresh, the wine list is diverse, and nothing beats the ability to watch your food cooked in front of you and have it brought directly to you still piping hot. Easily top 5 best restaurants in Boston.

We were in town for a short stay and decided to try out B&G Oysters as we were craving some fresh seafood. It did not disappoint! The oysters, mussels, and calamari were all delicious and at *peak* freshness. In fact, we had mussels again at a different restaurant later in the day and immediately noticed the difference in quality. The service was incredible as well. It was a hot day so we sat inside, but their back patio is perfect for an intimate meal. I highly recommend stopping in at B&G when you're in the mood for fresh seafood!

It was such a nice place for a dinner. It's located in half a basement, so there isn't much view, and it also gets quite noisy once busy due to the low ceilings, but it's still nice. All the ratings put their chowder very high, and I agree with that. For the main, we shared seafood bake, which turned to be more of a "half a lobster with clams", not what we expected, but we still enjoyed it very much.

An easy recommendation for anyone looking for one of the best oyster spots in Boston. Good variety and quality. Definitely make a reservation as walk-ins could have you waiting quite a while.

Fantastic service and friendly waitstaff at B&G Oysters. The Duxbury and Wellfleet oysters were fantastic. The sauce had a slight kick to it which was good. The two glasses of white Burgundy white was crisp and citrusy. The main seafood medley was good too- clams, mussels, cod/sole and salmon. All in $92 per person.

Cheeky oyster brunch at B&G oysters. The shucker messed up our second order and added two extra big ones but we were given them for free so I can't complain. Chips and lil raw clams were also fire. Will return for the feast of 1000 fried fishes!

Service was good and polite. Disappointed with the food and atmosphere. Oysters were mediocre and we tried each kind. Clam chowder was decent. Plates and glasses a bit spotty. Restaurant needs a deep cleaning. Atmosphere is not pleasant inside. Used the restroom quickly before leaving and it needs serious improvement!

Excellent selection of oysters. Love the lobster bisque. Moule frite are good. This is a very pricey restaurant for an oyster bar, dinner for two was $209 including tip. Note: The bathroom is the farthest thing from wheelchair accessible. It's down a narrow circular staircase of the sort that's typically found in a lighthouse.

Absolute delicious fish and chips! Then why the 2 stars you might wonder - it was so cold in the restaurant we had to sit with our coats on and it really (negatively) impacted our experience - the salad was drowning in its dressing - one of us ordered a beer and it was forgotten and then delivered at the last bite of the food - we came for lunch and I feel size and price of the fish and chips plate can be adjusted to a lunch portion, fried food is best eaten fresh and not something you take home

It's quite a cozy little place. We wanted to book for 6.30pm (Tuesday) but was said it's fully booked and only can put us for 4.30pm. We were flexible, so mo worries; however, we left at 6pm and only 6 guests were in the entire place for 3 waiters during our 1.5h visit. We had to ask 4 times whether we can order as we were ignored. When we got the attention they were friendly but I do not go to a restaurant to chase people... The fried calamari was huge portion and quite heavy - definitely not something that I would rush back to. My friend had the fresh oyster and she said that was perfect, she had a salad which she liked; I had lobster roll which was totally cold with soggy, oily fries. Quite a mixed experience as I really liked the location and the menu looked great too. (Also they have an open terrace place so was keen to have this place as a go to for the good weather coming) Toilet is downstairs with a spiralling beautiful staircase - however no way that a disabled person could make it work.

We love this place! It's an amazing atmosphere. Of course the oysters are fantastic and so was the clam chowder, Black bass, and the bouillabaisse. We finished it off with the chocolate mouse and the beignets and both were delicious!

  • 3/5 Ali K. 2 years ago on Google
The ambience is cool. We got a place on the patio which was nicely heated. Food however. Nothing $$$$ delicate about it. Calamaris were too breaded like road side restaurants. I think I really food is fresh but why same oysters should be prices 30 percent higher ? I think this place is an average $$$. Also note that they don't have full bar.

Awesome place to have seafood dinner in South End Boston. I had my best Oyster and Octopus there. The menu is small but if you like shellfish and raw bar then you should definitely try this place.

  • 3/5 Faith E. 2 years ago on Google
Sadly, this favorite place of mine has gone downhill. Maybe it's Covid and the supply chain of a wide range of shellfish is not available...I don't know. I had a nice lunch; not a great lunch, as I had become accustomed to at a BLG restaurant.

  • 4/5 Susan S. 2 years ago on Google
Super for raw oysters. The entree list might be shorter than pre-pandemic days, but there's a good mix and the quality is still high! Service was great.

  • 3/5 Douglas Black I. 2 years ago on Google
Oysters were wonderful. My fiancé had the striped bass and advised it was a bit bland. I had the lobster roll. It wasn't the best I've had while visiting Boston. Having said that, the cole slaw, fries and house-made pickles were hands-down best I've ever had. Very small and a little warm inside.

Located in a trendy section of Tremont Street, B&G has a nice garden seating area along for street side tables for enjoying the perfect New England Lobster Roll or Fried Whole Belly Clams (Two of their signature dishes) on a classic fall day. Seating is a bit more limited inside but plenty of counter seating facing their open kitchen.

  • 3/5 Jea K. 2 years ago on Google
As a seafood lover, B&G oysters has always been on top of my list for brunch. Recent got the chance to visit, but the overall experience left a lot to be desired. The place initially seemed welcoming with its open kitchen concept, and it was interesting watch the staffs shuck our oysters. Among the four types of oysters we got, Wellfleet had the best texture and a mildly sweet flavor that we enjoyed. The umami oysters were also one of our favorites with their unique aftertaste. The shrimps and the clams were good, but the clams seemed too small for their price. The two appetizer dishes were the standouts. The fried oysters went nicely with the tartare sauce, and the shredded lettuce helped tone down the greasiness. The calamaris were also super crispy and the spicy aioli sauce was one of the best I’ve had. Our disappointment with the meal started with the entrées. The lobster roll was mediocre at best. With the lobster meat cut into tiny pieces, it was difficult to enjoy its flavor. The fries and the buttered toast were okay, but it certainly wasn’t worth its price. Overall, great place for fried seafood and fresh oysters, but beware of the overpriced and disappointing entrées.

I found B & Gs on a blog about the best lobster rolls in Boston, so I made a point to swing by. My favorite thing in the world is a cute patio, which did not disappoint! The lobster roll was impeccable with a delicious side of fries. Definitely worth the order!

Wow just wow the best seafood in Boston by far!! The oysters, shrimp, Bouillabaisse and Halibut were divine. Sit at the chef counter for the full experience every meal is cooked fresh I’m impressed.

great place... easy walk from Backbay and Copley... you can sit indoors or outdoors... we sat inside to the right as you walk in... a cozy corner from where you can watch all the action, and dine too... for us it was a relaxed atmosphere all around... the kitchen was not rushed so the food was very well cooked... liked the french fries and the coleslaw was NOT dripping, just perfect... the calamari appetizer was wonderful... the fish and oyster entrees were wonderful too.

  • 5/5 Sarah H. 5 months ago on Google
B&G never fails to delight me with a fantastic no frills yet perfectly executed high quality meal - every single time! We always sit at the bar because you can watch the chefs in action. I would recommend this the most for smaller groups - solo or with one other person. If more ask for the corner. We always start with a dozen oysters chef selection, almost always perfectly shucked and always fresh and delicious. I have had the shrimp cocktail and clams - all wonderful. A MUST get are the fried oysters. Fresh, perfectly seasoned batter that is light, over a bed of their delish tarter sauce. Simple but perfectly executed. This time around we also got the friend ipswich clams platter - SO good! Clams were fresh and juicy, friend to perfection to maintain its tender juiciness. Their fries are also some of the best. We always finish our meal with the whole branzino (though the scallops always look so good too!) and let me tell you, there is only clean bone left when we are though. If you’re not eating the crispy head and getting all the fish rib meat, what are you even doing? A note on service - even though they are so busy, they still brought my cousin a little bday dessert and candle when I disclosed to them that it was his bday. So so appreciated. Love this place so much.

My husband and I went to Boston for our honeymoon and we were recommended my many people to try B&G Oysters. Wonderful atmosphere and great food, our waitress was so nice and made us feel welcomed. We shared a bottle of wine with our fried oysters and lobster roll. All was delicious and would love to go back again if given the chance.

Grade B (87) Food was good in general but a bit overpriced. The Lobster roll was ok, but $40? The ceviche is ok, but it was in ababyfood jar in the middle of the clams 😂. Clam chowder was very good, so was the fried oysters. The oysters were good according to my buddy (I don't eat raw oysters specially when traveling) all in all it was good, but overpriced.

  • 3/5 Richard W. 11 months ago on Google
The negroni was perfect. All else left much to be desired. The fried clams are fine (the tartar sauce is zesty!), but the sides were severely lacking. Fries were limp and soggy with virtually no crunch. The coleslaw felt limp and lifeless without any vibrancy. The pickles tasted off-putting, like something gone bad. This quality was not worth the price. The clam chowder was mainly salt pork. It tasted good, but I expected clam soup, not pork soup.

Clam chowder was very dissatisfying and unexpectedly bad. It looked and tasted more like bacon and mushroom soup...was made fresh yet very watery, had little clam, and overpriced for portion size. Cool little spot. Gracious host and staff. Chowder was NOT chowder though.

I had been looking forward to going to B&G for a while now, the place is small and getting a table can be difficult. I must say I was pretty disappointed. The oysters were great very fresh and briny. The rest was a let down. The Lobster BLT had a very little lobster and the bread it was served on overwhelmed the sandwich. Same with the fried clams, they were good but overpriced. The options on the menu were limited. I would rate the experience as ok. Many other places are far better

B&G Oysters has been around for a while here in Boston. A classic restaurant in the South End for seafood lovers. Oysters, Lobster rolls and seafood always taste so fresh. I love to walk over here in the summer time. They have an outdoor seating when weather is nice, but my favorite seating area is at the bar area watching the chefs in action. For starters, we had the spicy tomato soup paired with crab toast. If you love crab and tomato soup, GET THIS! Next we had the green bean and shrimp salad. It’s light and refreshing with generous amount of shrimp. Our third dish was the fried calamari with spicy lemon aioli, can’t go wrong with anything fried. Lastly, for our entree, we had the pan-roasted halibut with braised maitake mushroom, roasted romanesco and grilled asparagus. All the food we tried were delicious but the tomato soup and the pan-roasted halibut are my favorite. I would definitely order them again next time when I’m here.

This is a popular little spot in Boston know for it's excellent seafood dishes and raw bar. It's not the biggest of places, so reservations are a good idea. I love the bar-type seating that overlooks the kitchen, so you can watch the chefs in action. Of course the seafood is extremely fresh and they always have different oyster specialties. You can't go wrong with their lobster roll which tastes just as good as it looks. Service is friendly and noticeably quick. I'd highly recommend B&G Oysters to any Boston visitor!

  • 5/5 Futago T. 4 years ago on Google
This place was recommended by an article in which they are the 2nd best place to have Lobster roll. So we dine in and yes, the lobster roll was great and flavour and taste is not over exaggerating when it comes to taste. Perfect balance of ingredients in my mouth. My boyfriend had spicy tomato soup with crab. The place is not that big, so I suggest that you book a reservation.

Tasty seafood, particularly the lobster bisque soup. Service also very good. The fries can definitely improve, they are not where they should be given the price point of this restaurant.

Be aware that this restaurant's bathroom requires you to gown a steep and narrow spiral staircase. I was told it is the only option. not for anyone with mobilitybisdues. Photos of spiral staircase are included so you judge for yourself if it will work for you. 2020: I enjoyed the lobster bisque, oysters and seafood pasta. The menu seems a bit different from a few years ago, there is a lot more fried options. Some of the creative dishes are no longer on the menu. 2019:Great selection of oysters, very tasty and creative soups and entries. However many dishes have curry, so if you do not like curry be aware. One person in our party does not like curry and did not like anything. Updated 2018: other than the oysters they appeared to change the menu in drastic way. I thought it became a lot less interesting. Downgrading from 5 star (outstanding) to 4 star (good). For those with limited mobility -- the bathroom requires one to go down a steep very narrow metal spiral staircase, similar to what you might see in a lighthouse but more narrow.

Our appetizer & entree were exceptionally tasty & our server very friendly. The space is also pretty nicely appointed, but it's small & somewhat noisy, with few windows.

It was a lovely night out. The Cat Cuvée was truly a special bottle of wine and it complimented everything nicely from the appetizer through to dessert. Service was good. Quality of food was tremendous. Only four stars because the place is small and it was so loud we couldn’t even hold a conversation.

  • 2/5 Rachel D. 3 years ago on Google
Smallest lobster roll I've ever had. Super overpriced for the amount of food. And this is $30 worth of fried clams?

Brilliant lunch! We had the oysters, crab salad, soft shell crabbed BLT, mussels and chocolate mouse- everything was delicious! Our waiter was super nice and laid back. We were impressed all around and very surprised when we got the bill- very affordable for the quality of food. My husband joked we should come back for dinner the same day. We can’t wait to come back when we are next in Boston.

Beautiful place, they have plenty of out door seating. Seafood was beyond fresh and tasty. They’re heirloom tomato & watermelon salad was probably one of the best salads I’ve EVER had. Kate our server was super friendly and chatted with us- made us feel so welcomed. They also have a chocolate mouse that is TO DIE FOR. I’m not a mousse person- but this was so thick and rich and not overly sweet it had toffee bits and sea salt on top. Our entire experience was amazing, and so happy we decided to eat here. This is a must eat in the south end.ac
