The trip to Lincoln castle was very much last minute and we completely underestimated how much there is to see! Allow several hours to view all of the attractions and points of interest. The wall walk is a favourite of mine, offering incredible views of the city.

A very nice walk along the castle's walls. You can enjoy the panoramic view of Lincoln city and it's amazing. Exciting view from each of the watch towers that you can go into. There is an option to borrow an electronic tour guide in English, French or German for telling information on the spots.

Historical place with some interesting things to see and great views from the walls. It was very quiet when we visited, so there were no waiting times and managed to walk around the old prison, view the Magna Carta and walk around the walls without too much fuss

Really good family day out. The prison was really interesting and had loads of interactive, traditional activities for children in some of the cells. The castle walk can last an hour if you take your time and has fantastic views. The Peak District could just about be seen with binoculars. The climb up the tower is tricky via a narrow spiral staircase and is a bit nerve wracking once at the top. Worth it for the view though. Some of the wall was accessible for wheelchairs, pushchairs. Cafe looked nice but pricey, we opted to go round the corner to a sit in Curtis bakery. Good value for money overall. Best hint....go on a Sunday, the street parking within 10min walk is free so save yourself £9!!

Well worth a visit. The audio tour of the castle walls were very good and is included in the entry price. We really enjoyed the prison as well. Lots for children to do, games in the prison cells.

We really loved the Cathedral and Castle Quarter. The castle grounds are great for a family picnic and they are free to enter. We paid what was rather a high price to be able to walk the castle walls and visit the jail. However, the spectacular views was probably worth the cost. There is a lift up to the castle walls but the visit is not for the feint-hearted. There are several staircases to navigate and a very narrow spiral staircase to the top of the tower. Well-placed and interesting placards explain the history and the view over Lincoln and the surrounding countryside. Within the grounds and embedded in the walls is Lucy the dragon, rumbling and growling. Every 15 minutes she roars and emits clouds of steam. Great for children and again free. The jail is very interesting and the staff/guide was very welcoming and recommended the best way to tour. On the way, we viewed Lincoln’s copy of the Magna Carta and watched a short film in the theatre. A great day out, combined with a visit to the cathedral. On the way back down ‘Steep Hill’ there are many interesting stores, and some art and some antique shops, as well as the usual tourist tat.

What a great place to come for a walk, a chill, some drinks, or with the kids. In summer the grounds have food, drinks (bar) and there's a band stand kicking out live tunes. A wonderful grassy area to sit and enjoy the food or to just relax and watch the world. You don't need to pay to every the grounds, but you will if you want to walk the perimeter wall (recommended) and visit inside the old castle and prison and of course the Magna Carter. Well worth a visit on a nice day.

We didn't pay to go inside but nice to walk through the grounds and read some of the history. The court house is very grand. We would have loved to have done the Christmas tree light display if wed have known about it! The cafe was quite expensive and not much variety or choice. Accessible to walk through with push chairs or wheel chairs.

Really lovely experience, nice little gift shop. Grounds well kept and didn't see any litter at all. Did the wall walk which was a reasonable price for £11 per person with the audio tour. I'd say without the audio tour, it's not worth £11 as you can quickly walk it. Would be good if they had different price points for just walking and with the audio tour as I'd like to do it again but don't need the tour again. Toilets could be maintained more frequently, there was toilet paper all over the place including the sink and the bin was full and overflowing Other than that, had a very nice time

Absolutely phenomenal day out. Staff were amazing and helpful throughout our visit, and despite being a historic building and grounds, it was highly accessible for us. We were lucky to visit on a dog friendly weekend, which was amazing. And I can assure you, dog friendly meant exactly that. My pup was treated like a VIP. There are lifts throughout, and plenty of staff present to help guide you to access points. Tidbits of information are presented at every opportunity and it was a great way to spend the day.

This castle is fascinating, well worth the trip. Lovely views from the walk around the walls and the old prison is well worth a visit too, could have spent hours more there.

Really enjoyed our evening at Lincoln castle. We paid to go in out of usual hours as it was quieter and we wanted something to do once the shops had closed before we went for an evening meal in the centre. The castle was great to walk around and the staff were helpful and friendly. Even out of usual hours the gift shop was still open too but the exhibitions aren't but that's why it's a bit cheaper than in the day. Will definitely be going back again soon 😎

Been many times, went for the Xmas illuminations one weekend night before Xmas and although I didn't pay to walk along the top wall it was well worth going and paying a reduced price just to see the lights around the grounds. Plenty of food and drink options if you needed them but not oversaturated with stalls. Was well worth the visit.

An amazing place to visit! So much history, including the Magna Carta and the old prison. Great for children and adults alike. The audio tour is so interesting. The castle has been made as accessible as possible too with lifts and ramps. The views from the castle walls are stunning. The shop and cafe are worth a visit too.

Great place to visit if your in Lincoln. Its free to walk around the grounds but there's a cost to view inside the castle and also for access to the outer wall where you can walk around the top to view the surroundings. I particularly liked the dragons poking out of the wall, they growled and smoked.

Please, please please take the tour it is so informative. You will learn so much more about the castle and grounds that will make your visit, so much more enjoyable. An hours tour with the guide- unmissable. A walk around the medieval castle wall - fantastic views over the city and surrounding area. Prison - just be thankful you were never a resident. Lots to see. The Magna Carter - only 1 of 4 in the country

Visited on weekend and quite busy with lots of families and events happening. Included falconry, jousting and more. Interesting old prison on-site. Nice walk and views around castle walk. Worth a look and only £16 for full access

  • 3/5 Guyver F. 11 months ago on Google
Isn't worth the £16 like. Maybe £5. Takes less than an hour to do the whole thing. It is only a high level walk along the outside...fairly pointless.

  • 4/5 Mick G. 7 months ago on Google
The day we went was the day of a major rain storm coming through so we couldn’t explore the outside areas, namely the wall walk which was a real shame, the inside attractions didn’t however let it down. A really well laid out, organised venue. Plenty to see. I particularly enjoyed the prison and its interactive tables, full of information and facts from days gone by. The lady helping at the Magna Carta exhibit was very informative but not to the extent where you felt the need to edge away.

A good 3 hours easily spent. The open courtyard is free to peruse and use. Payment must be made to walk around the top of the wall and enter the prison. The views from the wall are great, a chair user would be unable to get all the way around, maybe just 1/6 of the walk. There is a lift to the top of the wall. The prison was enjoyable. Chair users can access all 3 floors. There are info plaques all round the wall and in the prisons. An enjoyable time out and worth the money.

The best place to go first is the website. They normally have events on in the castle grounds for the family and occasional have dog friendly weekends. There is a fair bit to explore from the castle walk, the Victorian prison, and chapel to seeing one of only 4 original copies of Magna Carta. There is a shop and cafe, all parts are accessible with lifts but there are a few stairs on the castle walk. Staff are very helpful and friendly

  • 5/5 Emily W. 7 months ago on Google
A little pricey as it only took us 2 hours to look around but the prisons were nothing like anything we've seen before so that was interesting. The wall walk was also very long compared to others we have been on. The town around the castle was also very charming with lots of places to eat.

Lincoln Castle is an amazing attraction, rich in history. I went in October of this year for my first time, but I decided to foster the Castle of Illumination event when I flew into the UK on the 23rd (two days ago). It did not disappoint! I will continue to visit and feel like I am a part of history!

Such an interesting and impressive place. I paid £15 for a day ticket including a grounds tour, entrance to the old prison, and a walk round the castle walls with audio guide. It was worth the money. The magna carta isn't there at the moment (but you can always see the forest charters), so check before you visit. All the staff were so helpful, knowledgeable, passionate, and friendly. I spent 3 hours there, but I would happily have spent another couple of hours. You can also stroll around the grounds for free.

Great day out, very informative and lovely views from the castle wall walk. Most of it is okay for people with low mobility. It’s definitely worth a visit.

  • 5/5 Trevor M. 11 months ago on Google
We did the walls walk. £10 each for concessions. Perhaps a little bit pricey for what you get. Good audio guide included but the audio guide markers are tiny and a quest in themselves. Spectacular view from the top of the tower.

Wonderful tour of the castle, a very beautiful and well-kept garden, the magnificent walk on the high walls made it possible to see the castle from another angle and see the beautiful landscapes around it, like the beautiful cathedral. I just thought the student discount was unattractive, just a pound.

Amazing Christmas market. The best I have ever been to. Amazing stalls, hot food, huge selection. All the stalls wooden cabins and people dressed as Victorian style stall holders. Fair ground. It's worth it for the experience, truly Christmas magic.

What a day we had learning about everything. Not been in years. We had a great day. Loved doing the Easter hunt. Edit: Been back again for the picnic event and got to do a quest for time travellers. Lots of things to do for free and lots of great food trucks to try. Fantastic.

What a beautiful piece of history! I can't believe that for only £14.50 you can walk the castle walls, see Magna Carta, and visit the Victorian prison. Excellent value for money, would have happily paid double!

  • 5/5 David W. 2 years ago on Google
Really interesting visit..the Victorian prison is an eye opener, especially the stories about the inmates. The chapel is something else. Great to see an actual version of the magna carta. Good coffee from the cafe Great walk around the castle walls. You need a head for heights up the observatory tower. Very enjoyable day

Great time here, enjoyed a walk around and inside the castle. Loved the prison. If you've never been you've got to walk up a steep hill to get to the castle.

I came on a great sunny day albeit a bit late so the tour is already done for the day. I decided to only take the wall ticket and I think it was amazing. Walking on the caste wall allows you to see many things around Lincoln. They also provide you with some displayed narratives about what you see from where you stand dotted around the wall. Not to mention also that you get a really good views on the cathedral. Apart from the wall, the castle ground is also a good place to enjoy your day. It is quite spacious with several trees if you are looking for shades. On a good sunny day it will really be a great place to just sit and enjoy the weather.
