I wanted to love this gym. I’ve seen it undergo many changes throughout the years, but the one thing that hasn’t changed is their payment structure. Every other gym will bill you monthly, via an autopsy/ACH method but here you pay up front for a week, month(s) or a year. Coughing up $250-300+ upfront is tough for many. On paper, $50 a month is far easier to swallow than a lump sum amount, especially as a parent or young professional. Not the greatest visitor policy if you call it one. $15/visit. No changes or upgrades to their machines. I actually think at one point there were more machines but over time they’ve removed a few. The appeal is their dumbbell and barbell/weight selection, a nod to the iron-gym days. However, the barbells are bent due to people loading them up, and the dumbbells unscrew and you spend more time trying to screw them back together than performing your exercise. Missing handles, clips and incorrect pin inserts on almost every machine, There is a sauna, but it’s in the women’s restroom. The gym gets very hot in the summer and they hardly ever turn on the AC. The final straw for me was the recent increase in cost. Would love to see a different or new variety in machines, or better membership options. This is a great gym but you might have a lesser ROI when choosing Mikes. Much better than a planet fitness or a crunch, but outdated machinery and weights really hurts them.

Decent gym overall, with plenty of equipment and space. My issue with them is that the gym can get very hot during the Summer, and they rarely turn the AC on. If that is ok with you, you will likely enjoy the gym. But if you're like me, and you cannot work out in a space that is humid and 75+ degrees, then you will not enjoy it as much.

Great selection of machines, free weights, and all the usual gym equipment. Clean, good gym etiquette by all, never intimidating but definitely inspiring. They don't enforce mask requirements which is a bummer but I'd say 75% of gym goers do the right thing. Most of all I'm getting stronger and having fun so hard to argue with that.

Although they have been in business for 35 Years (they mention that), they are not great. I kept trying to reach them to schedule an appointment for a"Fitness Test" which seems to be mandatory to join the gym. The lady in charge of the process never answers calls, nor replies to emails and not returning voice mails. Also, went to the gym twice in-person to enroll but was told to reach to the same person over email or call. Extremely unprofessional and worst communication. Would not recommend. Update: Reply to the comment; I went in person TWICE. How difficult is it to revert in person??? That's BS.

One of my favorite gyms. Not a lot of fancy equipment, but they have all the basics. Lots of cardio equipment. 5 squat racks, 3 benches. Plenty of room for deadlifts, and pull-ups. Staff and clients are both courteous. Only (funny)complaint: I learned the ladies have a sauna and the guys don’t.

I like this gym a lot and highly recommend. However the one problem I have and would like to see fixed, why are you having men clean the women’s locker room? You need to post a sign outside as a warning or have a women clean the area. Please address, it makes me very uncomfortable ty

Heard promising things only to show up and be disappointed. Equipment was fairly limited and weights were scattered and disorganized throughout the gym. Did not appear to be very sanitary as roughly have of the gym goers did not wipe down equipment after using it. Given the poor etiquette and sanitation standards with the $15 day pass or $60/month membership, your time and money would be better spent at Planet Fitness.

Best gym I've been a member of in my life so far. LGBT-friendly environment as well (applies to locker room situation), and has the most impressive amount of equipment I've seen. I appreciate the ample amount of stretching/recovery areas. Staff and members are caring of organization and cleanliness. Large layout prevents it from feeling "crowded" even at peak hours. I cancelled my other membership in favor of this place.

Only gym in JP which has dead weights and machines to work on. Others are more of Zumba sessions. People are friendly and they have different classes in weekdays.

Great gym in Boston but the patrons have ZERO gym etiquette and it’s obnoxious, even the trainers who workout themselves during peak times, hogging equipment over paying customers.

I've done my share of gym's, but this is the first time I felt at home. Laid back yet professional, a lot of options and space so you never feel crowded, latest equipment and some classics, great vibe. And the people are there for you, empathy and responsiveness. My coach was Marcus Smith, you can't do better, focused and invested in your success. Like I said, feels like home.

Awesome local gym. People are friendly, tons of equipment, and cool old converted brewery space to workout in. Prices are reasonable and flexible.

Very happy with this fitness center. It is not overcrowded and has all necessary equipment for a good training. The staff is really helpful and kind. Would definitely recommend it.

Gym is big and clean, covers the entire floor and has a lot of squat racks, benches, and other equipment and is not much crowded. None to least wait time as there are many equipments to workout. Should go and try.

This gym is an iron cathedral. Great rates. Hugely spacious. Top notch equipment. Couldn’t ask for more. 6/2/21.

I've exercised at a lot of fitness facilities in Boston. I live far away, visit the city, JP, often and am always day visiting fitness centers. I've been in none better than Mikes. Big facility with a huge array of impeccably maintained equipment. Squeaky clean. Great, welcoming staff (Mike, not the owner). Plenty of parking, ,convenient to the Orange Line. Not a bad word to say. I'll be back whenever I'm in town. Oh, and I dropped my credit card while changing. Some kind, honest soul turned it in and Mike came to find me and return it. Can't say enough good stuff about Mike's.

A few years since I was a member but reminded of it recently. Lots of space, lots of equipment, fair membership pricing.

Its a great gym with a great variety of machines. It’s spread across whole floor with a good planned layout for different body parts

Mostly a good gym with a positive environment. My biggest complaint is that the staff during weeknights turns off the music and the HVAC 30 minutes before closing and it becomes very stuffy and uncomfortable.

I wish they had a women's only workout area, but other than that they have plenty of equipment.

Friendly, big space, tons of equipment. I first started going here 3 years ago and it has only improved in that time. Highly recommend

Kind of a Rocky 3 training montage vibe in there while also an upscale “chic” feel. It’s got something for the boujee folk and something for hardcore lifters. Best part is because it is a local business, they don’t try to screw you over like chains, I’d go with them for this reason alone.

Amazing local gym with cool facilities and nice people! I’ve been going to Mike’s for about 8 months now and I have nothing but good things to say. I am glad to see several other reviewers comments on the inclusive, community feel that the gym has. Staff and other members are generally very friendly and supportive and there is no feeling of judgement. Much of the equipment has been replaced recently (new treadmills/ellipticals/bikes in Fall 2019). The layout of the building is odd but adds to the charm of supporting a local gym. Encourage anyone interested to go check it out - staff is always willing to give a tour!

Great place to lift. EDIT: Days after my review, I was told Mike’s is reconfiguring the gym to increase the space for lifters and adding new lifting equipment. Wonderful timing. Additionally, let me tell you about it’s members: I left a pair of metal lifting J-Hook straps, and when I returned the next day to lift, the instant I walked in the weight room a lifter told me that they were exactly where I left them. I am new, few people know me, and this gentleman and I had never met. Unbelievable! I hadn’t realized I had even forgotten them! The same “small town” atmosphere as I just left in Georgia, which I didn’t expect. Great people! It is busier in the evenings, and the other lifters are great about sharing equipment, but just leave a personal item on the equipment your using so a newbie doesn’t unknowingly take it from you when you take a breath-catching walk around or when you get a paper towel. LOL. Awesome gym...they listen!

I lived in JP for about a year and I really miss Mikes Fitness. I’ve been a member of a lot of gyms but Mikes is truly a 10/10 gym and worth every cent (very reasonably priced). First, the space itself is beautiful and has high ceilings and great light. Second, there are tons of machines and weights and they’re sorted by muscle group for easy reps. Finally, super friendly staff and great location. I still wear my hoodie with pride.
