I have long held the belief that Botswanaโ€™s lions are the biggest in Africa. This is certainly the case with the large, magnificent prides of Duba โ€“ namely the Skimmer pride and the Tsaro pride, both of which were controlled for some years by two splendid males known as the Duba Boys. The Duba Boys sadly passed away last year, and for the moment a younger Skimmer male has taken over both prides. We shall see what happens next, as inevitably other males will move into the territory looking to take over these prides โ€“ and all hell could break loose. What is so unusual about Duba is that these lions hunt by day โ€“ most prides throughout the continent hunt at night โ€“ and so visitors to Duba can watch marvellous set pieces as the lions and the buffalo take each other on in epic battles. I have been lucky enough to witness some of these battles which, from the initial stalking to the final kill and pride feeding, have run through an entire afternoon. Duba is a 65,000-acre concession in the far north of the Okavango Delta, with no access by road for most of the year. It has been the bush home of the filmmakers and National Geographic explorers-in-residence Dereck and Beverly Joubert for close on a decade, and it is where they filmed Relentless Enemies, the story of the confrontations between lions and buffaloes. Their company, Great Plains, recently bought the camp, and they are currently revamping what is already an idyllic place

Spectacular service, spectacular location. Luxury "tents" situated around the edge of Duba Plains. Pure luxury. Wine cellar. Everything is included. Private chef makes fresh meals for you every day. 2x daily trips into the plains to see wildlife. "Camping" in name only...

We had the most amazing time at Duba Plains in the suite. Teddy was our manager and was incredible. Kay made the most amazing food, surpassing anything we ate in Cape Town tenfold, and she made it with love and pride. Evans and Sophia took such good care of us morning and evening, and Cecilia gave us all wonderful massage with her strong hands. Spike, our guide, will live in our hearts forever. He is courageous and wise and knows everything about the delta. We woke up every day eager to see what Spike and nature had to show us.

The lodge is absolutely stunning. The attention to detail in the design and decor is evident, and we instantly felt a sense of luxury and comfort. The accommodations are spacious, well-appointed, and offer breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness. One of the highlights of our stay was undoubtedly the elephants and the hippopotamus in the front yard of our tent. It was a truly remarkable experience to have such close encounters with these majestic animals. The meals at the camp were thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious. We savored every bite and appreciated the variety of culinary delights offered. However, it was the breakfasts in the wild that truly stood out. Enjoying breakfast while surrounded by the untamed beauty of nature was an experience that will forever be etched in our memories. Our guide, Rapz, deserves special recognition. He expertly tracked down lions, elephants, wild dogs, rhinos, and leopards for us, creating unforgettable wildlife encounters. His knowledge and passion for the wildlife were truly inspiring. The locations for breakfast in the middle of the wilderness were breathtaking, and the boat trip through the Okavango Delta was an experience that will remain etched in our hearts forever. Thank you, Rapz, for your care and for providing us with such amazing experiences.

This is a magical place of total luxury, our last safari camp and the best. The tents are huge with beautiful polished timber floors and a view of vast, golden grasslands that is mesmerising. Staff are amazing: welcoming, relaxed, enthusiastic, fun-loving; a professional team that makes excellence look easy. The food under the guidance of chef Assistant and his team is impressive. Our wonderful guide Lettie quickly settled our initial nerves and stepped us through the excitement and wonder of the daily game drives. The beauty of the dawn and dusk is unforgettable. Breakfast laid out on the front of the Landcruiser is a delightful reward after a few hours of touring. This camp epitomises the beauty and romance of the Okavango Delta and we leave a part of our hearts with them forever. Thank you everyone for being so special.

We had such an amazing time at Duba Plains. Beautiful facilities, very nice staff (especially Teddy), the most delicious food on our entire trip (thanks Ole) and amazing guide (Mots). We will also miss our little friend Tom ๐Ÿ˜‹ a very special thing was to see the new born rhinos and learn more about the conservation. I hope to be back very soon.
