For
seven
decades,
Al-Alia
was
considered
the
most
important
cemetery
in
Algeria,
and
was
built
in
1942,
on
a
plot
of
land
exceeding
80
hectares,
in
the
Bab
Ezzouar
region,
east
of
the
Algerian
capital.
Aliya
is
the
name
of
the
woman
who
donated
the
land
to
build
the
cemetery.
She
was
one
of
the
wealthy
people
of
the
area,
and
she
recommended
before
her
death
that
this
land
be
a
cemetery.
The
majestic
entrance
to
the
cemetery
overlooks
National
Road
No.
5.
It
is
decorated
with
green
spaces
on
both
sides,
and
a
large
door
wide
open
in
dark
brown.
At
a
distance
of
100
meters
from
the
main
door
into
the
cemetery,
trees
are
distributed
in
beautiful
harmony.
The
cemetery
includes
the
"Martyrs'
Square"
in
which
dozens
of
martyrs
and
resistance
to
French
colonialism
were
buried,
the
tomb
of
Emir
Abdelkader
Al-Jazairi,
and
the
graves
of
Presidents
Houari
Boumediene,
Chadli
Bendjedid,
Mohamed
Boudiaf,
Ali
Kafi,
and
Ahmed
Ben
Bella.
