Walked through here and around the fields above on a nicely hot sunny day. The car park had limited spaces but we arrived mid-afternoon so that wasn't a problem. The ticket machine only takes coins (£5) but you can pay at the Mill café if you need to. Some honesty required here but if challenged you do have proof. The walk from the car park to the cafe took about 15 mins, not especially challenging so that was a great start. The toilets at the café were out of action due to a leak but temporary privvies were provided if you needed. The cafe sells the usual National Heritage goodies if you want! The staff seemed helpful and very pleasant. The walk upriver along the waters edge (on the left bank) was great. A mix of compacted footing, slightly slippery stones and paving with a number of water features along the River Calder. Unless you're averagely sure footed, try a different route. A number of bridges, fallen trees with tumbling water and some of the modifications to aid the mill when it was in use make it an interesting walk. Being next to the river it was cooler and really very pleasant. We walked up and out of the woods across the fields above (many many sheep and a number of empty crofter's cottages if you're interested) and back down the other side in to the car park again. Some steep sections but not overly difficult if you take your time. A nice way to spend a few hours.

Enjoyed my weekend in this place with plenty of woodlands and waterfalls. Walked 4 hours on footpaths and explored beautiful forests and valleys there. You can walk to Gibson mill that is former cotton mill and sit and rest at the back of mill where is pond with ducks and dragonflies. The surrounded woodlands are plenty of birds and wild animals. The view point and the last destination of the walk is very spectacular and especially in autumn is rare to see the carpet of gold leaves and foliage of trees and down to the ground riverside. It was definitely worth to go to the last point as I did, and try seasonal bluebells in very warm October, that were a bit of surprise.

Visited 29/06/2023 using National Trust family membership, scanned member card QR code at car park then approx 1.25mile walk to Gibson mill, lovely cafe with ice cream the best thing to have in the lovely sunny weather. From the internal seating area you can go through the book section and go into Gibson mill and look at the middle and top floor, including the views of the surrounding water and trees plus on the ground floor you can view the hydro power plant. If taking young children who require a stroller I highly recommend you do as little feet will get quickly tired. The weather was sunny and this helped make this a great visit and worth doing if your in the vicinity.

Highly recommended as a picturesque walk suitable for most ages dependent on route taken. The red route is a must for the best views but is also the most challenging route - you don't need to be a experienced hiker but should use common sense and take care on some sections of path. We then also took the purple route from Gibson Mill which is lengthier than the red but well worth checking out! There's two car parks available with £5 charge at each for the full day (worth it in my opinion for the walk and support the National Trust)

It is a lovely spot with loads of interesting walks. But the car park machine does not recognise all the cards. Not just ours, I watched several people give up and leave or scramble for £5 in change. Only when you have negotiated that do you go to the map where it says you can pay in the shop at the mill. Come on NT put a sign on the machine!!!! As I say the walks are lovely but apart from the main one the signage is awful. Also the web site implies that some are wheelchair and buggy friendly. They are not. This is a brilliant place but NT mis sell it and mislead car parkers.

Not so hard to find. Plenty of parking spaces. Usual charges for parking, free if you are a member. Staff very friendly and helpful. Toilets are available. Nice and gentle river walk. A bit of muddy part after a rainfall but still manage to walk around it. Lovely views.

Great place to visit. Previously I've always parked in the carparks, however, this time I was on a run visiting the nearby Lumb Hole Waterfall and Abel Cross, before dropping into here. Lots of paths in here, some mud type narrow tracks and others wide and accessible. Saw two deer and a heron. Great walking/ running area.

We parked South-West of Hebden Bridge along the A646- Free parking and a great walk through the town, and along the river from "Packhorse Bridge" to Hardcastle crags! come up just through "the lodge" just near the Midgehole car park. Hardcastle Crags offer different walking routes which are clearly marked by the map on site. Well maintained and popular walking location. Nice cafe at Gibson Mill. Dog Friendly! the staff are super friendly and very informative. really enjoyed our walk here! Free to visit, paid parking on site. Please note if you are parking on A646 it is quite a trek including the walk whilst on Hardcastle Crags.

I've photographed weddings at Gibson Mill, Hardcastle Crags a few times now and I couldn't recommend it enough as a wedding venue! The surrounding scenery is beautiful and fantastic for photos. Gibson Mill itself is an amazing space for a venue, it's lovely and light inside and full of rustic features. The staff are always incredibly helpful and I always love working with them. If you are looking for a unique wedding venue in West Yorkshire I would definitely recommend it!

After a 20k hike, we found this cafe just before it shut, and they gave us our coffees for free! It’s quite a small place but has indoor seating and some outdoor seating, and surprisingly clean toilets. Very nice place to rest after a long day, definitely recommend!

Lovely views and various routes to walk. The cafe didn't have many indoor seats. £5 all day parking

Nature at its best, this is a lovely walk/ trek in Hebden Bridge. Around 3-4 miles walk to reach to the top, plenty of parking space. Reasonably priced. There is a small cafeteria for Ice-creams and hot drinks. If you love nature this place is a must, very good and educational information for kids.

Lovely location with a good variety of walks for all abilities. The car park on arrival (non-disabled) is 1 mile from the cafe and toilets though so plan accordingly.

Really nice walk. Definitely need your walking shoes on for this one, there is very un even ground. There's 3 trails to follow, red is the easiest of walks, purple is beyond the mill and cafe, this is a tough walk loads of ups and downs and very uneven grounds but so worth it, the waterfall is on this route and views from high above.

Great place for a walk. The route along the river is best after a slippy flight of steps (It had rained heavily day before) so best make sure you have the right footwear. Great views and photogenic scenery. Cafe at the mill is a bit expensive though so best to take your own. Great walks for all ages (and dogs).

You need £5 to park. The riverside (Mill Walk), is lovely and a perfect place for families. If you're disabled the path down maybe OK, but there's lots of areas that make it more difficult. However, stepping stones, a small wharf and a lovely stream make it idyllic. After the mill, and up to The Craggs is a simple path (road), and there's a picnic area just before the climb up to The Craggs and the fantastic views, which I imagine, are much more interesting in winter when you can see through the trees. I came up from the car park, hugging the top tree line (What Three Words: barks. Community. Energetic) and climbed up and out of the wood entering moorland and locating many paths before making my way back down to The Craggs, which I climbed up. Just so interesting and a definite place to take small people, to give them a sense of adventure. I hiked for 4 hours and didn't visit Gibson Mill for an ice cream but understand the visit is worth it 😋 A perfect day!

Really nice place for a walk in the forest, we followed the red route and then the purple route, some spectacular views from the crags, there is a cafe and bookshop at the mill. Parking is £5 per day, nt members are free. No charge for entry though. Lovely place very relaxing.

A lovely area for a walk. Best visited in autumn when the leaves are all many colours. There are stepping stones, rocky crag outcrops and some mini waterfalls and a national trust cafe and toilets. Lots of trails through the woods and along the river so you can make a circular walk.

Pleasant walk, nice scenery and some good photo spots. For the most part it was a very easy walk with some more challenging slopes on the way back. Enjoyed it, but didn't feel like I burnt alot of energy. Edit: It was also free with a charge of £5 for parking for the whole day.

Really enjoyed my walk today. The road to the car park is a bit tricky as it's very small, one car track. But the reward at the end of that road is definitely worth it. Lovely river running over big rocks, fed by little and not so little water falls. There's a few ponds on the way too. Would definitely recommend 👍

I visited Hardcastle Crags with my dog Patch and I was amazed by the beauty of this place. The crags are a series of rocky outcrops that offer stunning views of the wooded valley and the moorland. The trails are well-marked and easy to follow, and there are plenty of places to stop and rest along the way. My dog loved exploring the woods and running along the stream. There is also a historic mill that has been converted into a visitor centre and cafe. The staff were friendly and helpful, and they even had water bowls for dogs. The cafe serves delicious, locally sourced food and drinks. I enjoyed some scones with jam & cream, had a nice coffee, with a cake. while my dog had some water and treats. The cafe is also eco-friendly, as it uses renewable energy sources. After lunch, I browsed through the second-hand bookshop and looked round the old mill where I found it really interesting. One of the highlights of my visit was seeing the waterfalls that cascade down the valley. They were spectacular and soothing to watch. I took some photos and videos to capture their beauty. The waterfalls are a must-see for anyone who visits Hardcastle Crags. I highly recommend Hardcastle Crags for anyone who loves nature and history. It is one of the best places to visit in West Yorkshire.

Really enjoyed our day out at Hardcastle Crags. A fantastic walk with some breathtaking scenery. The mill was good to see and a nice break on the walk. Plenty of walking options as well so can have an easier walk or harder.

Really lovely place. Not expensive to park which is a bonus. We walked the Estate walk and the Mill walk, both very do-able. The Mill is very pretty and toilets clean on our visit over the Easter weekend. You can spend hours here.

Hardcastle Crags is a true paradise for nature lovers! With multiple walk options, including dog-friendly paths, it caters to all. After a refreshing walk, the dog-friendly and reasonably vegan-friendly cafe is a delightful treat. A perfect day out!

A quaint and charming walk through the woods, by the river. The area is full of character and its a very pleasant walk that isn't ocerly demanding.

First time visiting today, looked on the national trust website that stated all areas were open, upon arrival only the ground floor of the mill was open to look at, which consisted of the battery room and the cafe book shop. The upper levels of the mill were closed. Would of been nice if the website stated that. Had a nice walk round the grounds. Some of the paths are not suitable for people with limited mobility.
