This is the place to come for walks with four different trails to chose from. I chose the "Valley Views" trail which whilst only 4.4 miles is the most demanding. This trail takes you to the top of the hill and down to the valley bottom. It also provides for a varied scenery with open fields, woodland and a stretch along the river at the valley bottom. Great views from the top of the hill. All my photos are from this route. It's not suitable for pushchairs; apart from being steep in places, there are a few stiles to cross. I did this route anti-clockwise, but I noted that if you did this clockwise, you'd have a longer, but less steep climb upwards. Apart from the different trails, there's a large walled garden, not a huge attraction for flowers just now, needs some work after Covid, but some good green spaces for families to have picnics, and play area. The Caffe on site is very popular, I chose not to eat there because of long queues.

Visited Gibside's Lumiere last night. Far better than last year. Twice as big and no having to keep moving on, due to social distancing. Be warned though - if you fancy a seasonal mulled wine, it's costing £6 per plastic cup! Yes, silly price - paid half that, at York Christmas Market

Fantastic walk around 18th century pleasure grounds. Loads of old derelict structures and folleys. A huge kids playground. And a coffee shop.

Fantastic open spaces, subtle fitness outdoor gym hidden along beautiful walks and a large climb. Great play park, stunning views and all types of walks, river walks, hill climbs with an elevation to see the whole valley and beyond. Great access for the disabled. Lots of flatter walks with great views. So much to do with some great vistas along the way. We are local so I have visited this a lot, still finding new routes and features. Two great cafes, good toilet facilities. Great seasonal activities and a great venue. Hidden rope swings and a fantastic rope playpark to traverse.

Perfect place for a day out. Whatever your fitness level or however far you want to walk. The pathways are beautifully lined with woodland whether you take the gentle paths or go for the steeper hilly paths. There are two cafes, one in the kids play area(Strawberry's) (which is fab) and the other near the entrance. There is a small shop and toilets on site too. You can spend hours here and not get bored if you love fresh air and mature. The chapel and monument are cool to see too. We have National Trust members which is 11.50 per month and can visit Gibsite anytime.

We've visited gibside several times and always had a great time! The cafe is fairly basic in choice but has always had something delicious for us to have, kids included. There are so many different ways to enjoy gibside, there is a fabulous adventure playground, more gentle walks and much longer walks. They have areas designated for dogs to go off lead but dogs are welcome in the outside areas on lead throughout. Even on busy days we've always managed to park but sometimes have to queue on those days to get in the car park.

Booked at ticket at last! Love this place. Safe and good signage. Beautiful walk in the sun. Fab sculptures. Good exercise but not too challenging. Help yourself to apples from the cart, a nice surprise.

Great place to visit if it just for a walk around the grounds and seeing the scenery around you or with the kids/grandkids for a play in the park.

Place for some lovely walks, tranquility, picnic and fun with kids. There is a lovely cafe with some great cake choices ...lemon cake is amazing! Few playgrounds for kids and plenty to do for a day out. A regular visit from us every few weeks.

Love this place and on the doorstep so even better go as often as we can we went last weekend Sunday 2nd and it was very busy took a while to get parked as it was the open day for non members to visit a site it’s a pity that hardly any of them will actually buy a membership and help the national trust keep lovely places like this open but nevertheless had a lovely day here just me and my son while my wife and daughter had a girls weekend away

Fabulous place to spend a few hours we especially enjoyed the walled garden with its lovely wild flower borders full of bees and butterflies although the vegetable borders could do with some tidying up and weed removal.

Gibside is a great place to visit with the family. There are some nice trails, lovely scenery, great picnic spots and a park for the kids. We have a National Trust membership which is definitely worth the money!

Wonderful Christmas family event with our son, daughter-in-law and grandaughter. We loved the wonderful lights display. Our 7 year old granddaughter, when pressed, loved the lazers and seeing father Christmas. We enjoyed waffles and hot chocolate whilst Granddad enjoyed the mulled wine. Thank you
