We went to the Wensleydale Heifer for my parents anniversary meal and it was amazing from the moment we walked in! (Apart from the tight car park, but it didn’t put us off the place) I called last minute on the day and they were kind enough to squeeze us in, I mentioned it was there anniversary and even in the short time frame, they still had a balloon and a little pouch of goodies on the table for my parents. The food was just absolutely beautiful! The portions were amazing and the flavours as well as the decoration on the plates, all incredible!! The staff were so so welcoming and approachable, we had a great time!! Will definitely be back again! Thank you!!

I'm sitting in the car park writing this after a really lovely lunch at the WH. The service was impeccable. So very friendly. The food was delicious. The attention lavished on the kids plus the gifts and yummy desserts made it a truly fun experience for them. Our waitress was so lovely!! You can tell she has a great way with kids (the ex teacher shining through). Highly recommend - it's the most family friendly place I have ever been to.

Visited with my wife as a treat night out. It was a Sunday evening but the restaurant was full and the atmosphere wonderful. The internal decor is tastefully done with stone walls and timber ceilings. A nice light space with artwork by a local artist of local scenes. Our waiter was very attentive and had a wealth of knowledge about their produce. Our food arrived in good time and was beautifully presented. The portion sizes are just right. We sometimes find at restaurants that offer higher quality food the portion sizes are very small. Fantastic taste but you leave still a bit hungry! That's not the case here. The quality of the food was superb and there is plenty of advice in regards of what wines complement each dish. There's a sensible selection of cocktails too. This isn't a cheap restaurant but what you get for your money is definitely good value.

Just back from an amazing stay. The food was really good - fish the best I've had (including at Rick Stein's restaurants) perfectly fresh and cooked to perfection. The service was impeccable, staff were attentive but not on top of you. It feels like a long time since I've had such good service when dining out. I was slightly concerned at the room location at the front of the hotel, right on the road, but in the event there was no noises that kept me awake at all. Great black out curtains, thank you. Breakfast was delicious and perfectly balanced selections to choose from. Thank you all and we look forward to coming again soon.

3rs time visiting The Heifer and it definitely won't be our last. The little touches in the rooms make the stay all the more enjoyable. Food is amazing and staff knowledge about how to pair courses and wine. Location is very good for venturing out. Absolutely highly recommend!

Very pleasant experience following a recommendation from the owner of the holiday cottage we were staying in Booking was pleasant and straight forward. I was asked if it was a special occasions(anniversary) and as a result on the day of our visit we received an anniversary card, balloon and we enjoyed a very nice meal and could not fault the service which was pleasant and attentive but not over the top. We would certainly go again if/when in the area. Many thanks to all at the Wensleydale Heifer.

Booked here last week - on the "Beat the Blues" deal. We had eaten here about 3 years ago one day for lunch , and we enjoyed, but the experience of staying over and having an evening meal was not good. Stayed in the Four Poster Room, which looks lovely and pink, and bright, and fresh on the photos, but in reality is not pink, or bright, very dull decor, tired looking, small, creaky, limited space , uneven wardrobe. The rooms are really close together , narrow stairway, noisy. Evening meal - Looked at the menu for our voucher - wasn't anything that sounded exciting so partner went for the so called named "controversial" lobster salad which was £40. It had arrived and he was wondering where the lobster had gone, because the end bits of the claw was the only meat, very small scallops that were supposed to be king, so they kindly sent over an extra portion. The ambience in the restaurant, well, just wasn't any atmosphere at all. Very dim lit, with what felt like an old folks home. No personality to it. Over priced drinks, which seems to be a common theme on these reviews, and totally agree with the chap who said they are obviously trading by their reputation, because for £280 there are many many other places to visit, and get a much better quality stay. Sat at breakfast - unprofessional staff, had to listen to the cleaner saying how mucky some people are as someone had left a bathroom dirty -

While staying In Newbiggin on a trip from NZ recently, we had dinner here twice. Each time we were welcomed by the staff like old friends and the ambience was lovely. The food was exquisite and the presentation of the food was a work of art. We will miss your lovely seafood and lovely cocktails.

Booked for my birthday from hearing friends stating it was a great place to eat. from the moment I rang I was convinced all my friends were correct. I requested if I could bring me dogs which wasn't a problem for them, when we got there they asked straight away where me dogs were ( made booking a month earlier ) we was shown to the table where they had placed a "happy birthday" balloon and card along with pot of sweet chilli jam just the little touches . the service was absolutely amazing what it should be like everywhere. the food was amazing , delicious, highest quality and the finest flavours the beer was excellent and locally brewed . this place is an absolute gem , yes it is pricey, however you absolutely do get what you pay for and I wouldn't mind paying more for such a sumptuous meal I thank everyone completely for making my birthday memorable. I will definately be going back again

Staying locally for a few days and have just got back from here celebrating the Mrs 40th. We arrived and there was a birthday card and balloon on our table for her, we have a 1yr old and she was presented with a cuddly toy cow. I’ve never been greeted like that before. The food was exceptional.. I had the cote de boeuf and it was unreal! Everything you’d want from a steak and more. The desserts that came out of the kitchen looked sensational. Every one of the staff were friendly and informed.. they make sure you’re comfortable, happy and full! The baby was treated like a little superstar. I’ve eaten at 4 different Michelin star restaurants and this was as good but with better friendlier and more accommodating service. I’m gutted this restaurant is on the other side of the country to me or it would become a regular for us!

What a lovely country hotel in the heart of Wensleydale. Totally dog friendly and welcoming. The rooms are very well presented, with a number of themed rooms. The food is superb and reflects a very talented chef, behind the scene. We had fish and chips, but this was truly 5 stars. Cooked to perfection with accompanying reminders of my childhood, scraps, and curry sauce. The quirky theme runs through to the plates decorated like traditional newspaper. How the Michelin team seem to have missed this place, I simply do not understand.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the food was fabulous and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. They paid particular attention to our grandson which is great. Service impeccable, probably the best restaurant we have ever been in.

Great hotel in the stunning Yorkshire Dales. Dog friendly. Good parking. Lovely people. Spic and span. Just stopped in for coffee and we were looked after in the snug with our dog, who they spoiled rotten, even though it was Sunday lunch time. Food looked and smelled delicious. Looking forward to visiting again soon. Highly recommended. Thank you to all a The Wensleydale Heifer.

Had a wonderful anniversary lunch. The staff were friendly & helpful from the moment we arrived. They were dog friendly which was an added bonus. Balloon & card was a lovely touch. We both had (different) steaks which were perfectly cooked as ordered, and we went slightly off menu which was managed with ease & charm. The honeycomb x3 dessert was pretty as a picture & to die for. All in all just perfect. Thank you to all the staff.

Impromptu lunch. Out for a drive on a wet November day and googled where to eat. Absolutely fantastic. Amazing food and wine plus great service and lovely ambience. So impressed we booked an overnight stay for later in the year. Highly recommended.

Had the pleasure of staying here with my husband for our birthday treat. The room was comfortable, quite and dressed for our birthdays. From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and attentive. They seemed to enjoy working there, felt like a happy family environment. The food and drinks were of the highest quality. We will be returning.

A great experience was had by my wife and I celebrating our anniversary here. The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and they made you feel relaxed and welcomed. The room we stayed in was amazing; clean, comfortable and very uniquely decorated. To find a mini fridge with fresh milk to go with the beautiful coffee in the UK is hard to find and just goes to show that extra level of quality.

Very nice hotel and the food was excellent. We had the gin room which was a little smaller than expected and without double glazing could be a tad cool when the temperature dropped outside. Better quality toilet roll would have been nice also a box of tissues would have been a welcome addition to the room. Food wise the hotel could not be faulted as every meal we had was superb and real quality. The staff are very friendly and helpful which made our short stay very enjoyable and we are very likely to return at some point as the area is absolutely fantastic.

Fantastic themed rooms. A good menu, lots of choices with the emphasis on fish. A small but well stocked bar. The desserts are artistry on a plate. All the staff are cheery, polite and helpful. My wife and I have stayed many times, we are always welcomed back, treated like honoured guests, made to feel individually special. We always feel excited and ready for another visit!

Wonderful food and atmosphere. We were visiting for our anniversary and they had a Happy Anniversary balloon chocolates, and a card on our table when we arrived. The food is "modern British" style but absolutely the best we've had since we moved here a year ago. Really well prepared and delicious!

Fantastic dining experience for my wife’s fiftieth Birthday celebration. Superb food served by attentive staff. The only slight downside (and not the restaurants fault) was a slightly vocal patron debating the accuracy of the wine list with the exasperated sommelier. I’d love to visit again.

Had a fantastic overnight stay following a small family wedding. I have a lot of food intolerances but nothing was too much trouble for them. Special thanks to Craig the chef for making me some really lovely things to eat especially the tempura green beans , they were so delicious. Many thanks to all the other staff who were so friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was lovely and comfortable and had everything we needed.

Just had a lovely night here in the "Chocolate Heaven" room. Friendly staff on arrival and our room was lovely and cool due to air conditioning that actually worked well (we came in the middle of a heatwave). Loved all the chocolate in the room, certainly made me smile. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was spectacular. The evening meal was lovely with friendly staff who were attentive but not overly so, they got it just right. Breakfast was also lovely. Our thanks to all.

Quite possibly the best place in the world - we certainly think so! Amazing food, fabulous rooms, and fantastic staff. Our most recent stay was in the Black Sheep Christmas room - just brilliant. Highly recommended!

Drove from Beverley just for lunch and was blown away with the special welcome we recieved as it was our anniversary. Awesome food and very hospitable friendly service. Great job guys and I loved the interaction , it is noticeable how well/happy you all work together. Our new favourite restaurant. Will definitely book a room for the night next time. Fantastic from start to finish. A nice initial touch with a “Happy Anniversary” balloon, followed by some great service. We were made to feel really welcome, the staff chatted to our daughter and the dog. The food was excellent, we were really impressed! We will definitely be back!

Booked in at short notice for my partners birthday lunch while we were on holiday from the Highlands. Booked in online, the meal was fantastic, the service was great, very quick, but not in a rushed way. The seafood menu was very good and varied, the fish and chips were great, went for the large, which was more than enough, but the mega sized, and win a tee shirt did appeal. Thanks for a great afternoon.

The food was delicious and the service was perfect - the staff were friendly and welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable - they were all presentable and looked like they enjoy their jobs. As well as the main menu, they also offer a wide ranging vegetarian menu. We had a really lovely evening and will definitely return next time we are back in the area.

Fantastic menu particularly for fish lovers but with plenty of alternatives available. These included specific vegetarian and vegan menus which went down very well with our daughter-in-law to be. Lovely staff in a great setting. Strongly recommend.

What an unbelievable experience. I have eaten at many of the finest steak houses in the north and North east but this place is next level. I could not find one fault and I'm as picky as they come. The food was beyond perfection, the staff are so friendly and polite while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and they make you feel like they are there solely for you. The pricing is on the high side but this is no negative as the level of quality you receive reflects this and is justified in every way. I cant praise Wensleydale heifer and their staff highly enough for a perfect night with the finest food.

Fantastic pub… it’s one of my favourite places to eat… I would recommend the fish and chips as excellent value for money. The decor is beautiful, food is excellent quality and the staff are so welcoming and friendly. The owner, in particular, was very kind. The pub are very accommodating of children and dogs and I thought the soft toys, gift bag and hand drawn chocolate drawings of the unicorn / dinosaur a great touch.

This meal was a highlight of our trip to the Dales. A friend recommended it to us and I am glad we had a lovely meal here. Dog friendly restaurant and they got a bowl of lovely treat for our dog too. Good service and all the food came out hot and beautifully plated. The desserts are a must have. Their in-house pastry chef serves them up like a piece of art. Great selection of wines as well and they have non alcoholic beer options too.
